About The Experience
Once a haven for the villagers during pirate attacks, this Santorini villa for rent will be your own private haven from the rest of the world! Luxuriate in the Jacuzzi, tucked away in your own private courtyard, or relax in the characteristic setting of the living areas indoors. Of course you'll also explore the village outside of this holiday villa in Santorini, perhaps sampling an authentic meal at a taverna or sampling the locally produced wine. Return to your Santorini accommodation for dinner or stay out and sample some of the exciting night life.
Location Description
This villa near the square of Megalochori, a quiet, traditional village on an eastward-facing slope, is a charming retreat from the hustle and bustle of Fira and Oia. This village is the center of the island's wine production industry, so it's a great area to be if you like to go tasting. The main square is host to a couple of tavernas for eating out in local style. It is about 10 km away from Fira, the cliff-side town looking into the heart of the Caldera. One of Greece's most popular islands, Santorini has a fascinating geological history, as it is of volcanic origin. Throughout recorded history, parts of the island have dropped into the sea, while new islands have suddenly appeared off the coast! The island forms a crescent around the Caldera, or cauldron-- the collapsed center of the volcano. It is an enviable view! Fira is the capital of the island, host to the Archaeological Museum. Its main streets are filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. That's right... Santorini is also famous for its thriving nightlife! Your choices for activities are almost endless... you can relax on red and black sand beaches, take a boat around the islands, hike around the cliffs, go shopping, or even take a ferry to other islands in the area.
Exterior Description

Customer Reviews

Overall:
We would recommend it to anyone. It is a beautiful place. Very comfortable. Away from the tourist trap of Fira, but close enough to be able to drive most places within a few minutes.
Enjoyed Most:
It was very private, clean and spacious.
Enjoyed Least:
Not within walking distance to the beach.
Surrounding Area:
It was quaint and charming. We were surrounded by the authentic Greek culture. It wasn't commercial. Lots of nice places to eat within walking distance.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Most places required driving to, although you could walk. We walked to Fira one day and it took us about 45 minutes. During the busy summer months it would probably be too hot to walk. There was enough accessible in the town where we stayed, so we were content.
Tips or Restaurants:
Renters have an option to request an automatic car if they are not comfortable driving manual. We didn't know that and we would have chosen automatic if we had known. I would say not to over-pack. It becomes a burden. Metaxumus is a local restaurant only known to the local people. It is a gem. All of the restaurants in Megalochori village were great.
Directions:
We were taken to the property by a representative of the property, so we had no problems. In fact, he was so nice - he even gave my husband a crash-course in driving a manual car.
Check In Out:
Our key-holder, Ester, was kind and sweet. She made us feel very comfortable and welcome.
