About The Experience

The Cirque d’Hiver… one of the most fun and happening spots in Paris is located just down the street from this apartment rental. You are in for a great time during your visit here! Not only are the many shops and restaurants nearby, but the apartment itself is modern, comfortable, and fitting for a family.

Location Description

The apartment is located just behind the Boulevard du Temple, a street full of restaurants and shops. This also means that it’s on the border of the Marais, which spreads across the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris. The Marais is one of Paris's oldest and most distinct neighborhoods. Characterized by the impressive mansions (or Hotels Particuliers) of the 17th and early 18th century, this neighborhood stretches from the 3rd and 4th arrondissements and was originally the residences of aristocratic families. The surrounding Marais is not just an historic quarter; it is also filled with trendy boutiques and cafes and also has theaters, cinemas, spas (for both men and women), and superb restaurants. Nearby attractions include Place des Vosges, the city's oldest square that still has its original buildings, the Jewish Quarter, the Musée Picasso, and the Musée Carnavalet.

Nearby Attractions: The city of Paris! Explore Paris on foot to find the hidden treasures of the city of light. Unknown too many are the Beehives of the beautiful Jardin du Luxembourg – hit the beehives at the right time in the fall and you’ll be able to purchase the honey. The popular cocktail bar, Les Etages, has two “branches”, one located in the Marais; the other in St Germain. The covered market, Marche St.-Quentin, dates back to 1860, and has 30 plus stalls of mouth- watering cheese, baked goods, meats and more. La Perlerie is a tiny store offering bronze and silver bracelet and necklace charms and you can assemble your jewelry right in the store. For some of the best steak frites of Paris, stop by Le Relais de l’Entrecôte, known simply as l’Entrecôte, but expect a wait of at least a half-hour.

The property itself was great - really enjoyed it. It was comfortable, clean, well-appointed.
Enjoyed Most:
Size and location.
Enjoyed Least:
Construction underway out front between Rue Amelot and the Boulevard. Early morning construction noise was unpleasant. There were jackhammers and loaders, etc. Editor's Note: The street construction is almost complete, and the "noisy" work is finished. May 2013.
Surrounding Area:
Proximity to a selection of restaurants and proximity to underground station, which was very close.
Check In Out:
No, it went fabulously. We were met very professionally and everything was explained in detail. An instruction folio on the apartment/appliances/internet, etc. was provided that was very helpful.

We had a wonderful experience in Paris.
Enjoyed Most:
We probably enjoyed the living room and kitchen areas the most in the apartment. I mostly enjoyed the experience of what it might be like to live in an apartment in Paris as a full time resident, not just as a tourist.
Enjoyed Least:
We were a bit surprised that the second bedroom had only two beds. I had understood that the room could accommodate three people with beds. We were tired and didn't like having to make up the beds, find the linens, etc. We did make a make-shift bed using part of the sofa bed from the living room and the seat cushions to make a third bed in the second bedroom. Fortunately, my grandson can sleep easily anywhere. We did not want to make the living room into a bedroom. Editor's Note: The second bedroom can accommodate 2 children and 1 adult. There are two narrow sofas that convert into beds (best-suited for children), and a sofa bed (for 1 adult).
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed walking all around the apartment. It was close enough to walk to many or most of the major tourist areas. The small shopping streets were great fun. If the distances seemed to great for good walking, the metro was right there. We found the metro very convenient and easy to use. There were good grocery facilities very near and wonderful bakeries for breakfast and lunch baguettes. My grandchildren have food allergies so we were most comfortable preparing most of our own meals.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The apartment was in the Marais district, I think. It was also near the Bastille area. We are all good walkers so getting to the Seine, Louvre area, or Notre Dame areas was very enjoyable for us.
Tips or Restaurants:
The taxi or transportation service arranged be the rental service was very good and we would recommend them for ease in getting to and from the CG airport.
We used the transportation service arranged by RentVillas. It worked very well for us. Our party of travelers arrived at different times of the day. As the second group to arrive we had a momentary period of uncertainty when being dropped off in front of the apartment. We had not thought about the door codes or experienced getting in and out of buildings in that manner. A quick review of the written information provided by the agency helped us get our bearings.
Check In Out:
The agent met our daughter and grandchildren on their arrival. As it turned out, the apartment was not ready for occupancy when they arrived. They were able to leave luggage and to go exploring so I don't believe it was a problem for them.
