Location Description

With its incredible architecture, bridges, galleries, and museums, Florence is a gem in the heart of the Tuscan region. The Duomo section of the city is one of the oldest and most popular. This apartment is located just two blocks from Florence’s most famous symbol, the Piazza del Duomo. Also close is the Uffizi, Italy’s greatest art gallery; Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, with so many of the world’s most famous statues and frescoes; and the oldest surviving bridge in Florence, the Ponte Vecchio, with its panoramic views. Orsanmichele, the ancient church, is also within easy walking distance, as is the abbey church, Badia Fiorentina. A little bit farther out is the gothic church of Santa Croce. There are elegant and smart shops nearby, where the famous fashion houses display their world-renowned wares. After shopping and sightseeing, treat yourself to a meal at the local trattorias and gourmand restaurants.

Nearby Attractions: The area around the Basilica di Santa Maria dei Fiore, commonly referred to as The “Duomo,” is considered the historic center of the city. From here it is possible to walk north to the San Lorenzo Church, the San Lorenzo outdoor market (where you can find all manner of clothing, shoes and bags,) as well as the not-to-be-missed Mercado Centrale, with its mouthwatering displays of food items. West and north is the train station and the Santa Maris Novella Church. While in this area, it is worthwhile to visit the Officina di Santa Maria Novella… the potpourri perfume will guide you. To the south are the Piazza della Signoria, the political center of Renaissance, the Uffizi Gallery, the Orsanmichele Church, the Casa di Dante, the Badia Fiorentina, and the Ponte Vecchio. Along the way are shops galore! One very interesting place is visit that is southwest of the Duomo, is the Palazzo Davanzati, a beautiful home with period furnishings, originally built in the 14th century. Perfectly centered in the heart of Florence
Enjoyed Most:
The location of it.
Enjoyed Least:
The 3-story walk up.
Surrounding Area:
The piazza nearby, cafes, restaurants, a nearby laundromat.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring containers for leftovers, and maybe some condiments-spices. Everything else is provided.
Before I came, I looked the address up online, and found the street which is a few blocks from the train station.

Excellent. The apartment, while small, was exactly as advertised. The location couldn't be beat.
Enjoyed Most:
The location, just 2 blocks from the Duomo.
Enjoyed Least:
It was small, but I knew that before I arrived.
Surrounding Area:
Proximity to all the major monuments and museums in Florence.
Tips or Restaurants:
The apartment came equipped with everything, so there is no need to bring stuff from home e.g., kitchen equipment. I rarely ate or shopped in the immediate vicinity, so no recommendations on that account.
Check In Out:
The documents I received ahead of my arrival were very clear and things went exactly as outlined.

The staff were as helpful as they could be. Any minor problems I had were quickly addressed and fixed.
Enjoyed Most:
The studio was perfect for one or two compatible types. It was well-appointed and had everything I needed, especially in the kitchen. The old sofa bed had just been replaced with a new model. The mattress was wonderful and sleep was no problem!
Enjoyed Least:
Can't really think of anything. I came knowing there was no view, and so was not disappointed!
Surrounding Area:
The upscale shopping area was very safe, with cafés, delicatessen, greengrocers - everything one needed for eating in and out. Being close to the train station was a plus, and most of the important churches and museums were within 15 minutes or so on foot.
Tips or Restaurants:
Even in May and June, the air conditioning was an occasional must, though running it for a few minutes and then switching to the fan was usually adequate. Florence abounds with good restaurants. Among my favorites were Osteria Belle Donne around the corner, Trattoria Gobbi Via di Porcellana, Il Santo Bevitore and Enoteca Fuori Porta both in the Oltrarno district.
Check In Out:
I came and left during the week, so it was very easy.
