Overall:
It was the perfect quintessential Italian vacation on the Riviera.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was superb! The owners were so helpful and friendly.
Enjoyed Least:
Pungent cooking odors in the kitchen coming from the restaurant below. Owners said a new chimney will to installed soon to eliminate the problem.
Surrounding Area:
Wonderful seaside villages easily accessible by boat, train, bus or car. Stunning scenery!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Margarita was an easy boat ride, but also could be reached on foot.
Tips or Restaurants:
Keep kitchen door closed at all times to contain cooking odors from restaurant below.
Directions:
Park in front of villa near fountain to remove bags from vehicle before going to parking garage.

Overall:
Outstanding view and very spacious with a great 2nd story patio. The super friendly and helpful owners met us at check in.
Enjoyed Most:
Good location near main part of town and the train station.
Enjoyed Least:
The property is on a busy street with some road noise most of the time.
Surrounding Area:
Plenty of nice restaurants and wine cafes within walking distance. There's a coffee shop right across the street and a train station less than a 10-minute walk.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rapallo is a 5-minute walk to the town center and waterfront!
Tips or Restaurants:
We really ejnoyed the restaurant Santa Lucia.
Directions:
Easy to find. It's right across the street from the "Frog Fountain"!
Check In Out:
It was perfect!

Scott, March

Overall:
Overall we really enjoyed our last week in Rapallo (our 4th week in Italy.) It was a lot noisier than our location in Chiavari. Scooters, cars and trucks just outside. The owners were wonderful. They live in Milan, but greeted us the day we arrived and walked us into town showing us places to eat and buy food. They provided daily maid service and gave us their phone numbers in the event we had any issues or questions. A bottle of Prosecco in the fridge was a nice touch as were the coffee, tea and snacks.
Enjoyed Most:
The location is the selling point. The walk into town was only a few minutes and we were within driving distance of a lot of beautiful sea towns. Fantastic eating and shopping for food to prepare in the apartment. The kitchen was basic, but very usable.
Enjoyed Least:
The owners have made some improvements over time (the apartment belonged to a deceased mother), but now the exterior needs work (the owners mentioned that the condo association plans to address it soon).
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area is beautiful and very walkable.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The center of Rapallo is about a ten-minute walk, longer when one stops for an espresso.
Directions:
Used my handheld Garmin GPS into which I had put the address. Streets are tricky (like most of Italy) due to poor signage.
Check In Out:
No. The owners made the process very easy and made sure that we were able to park. Parking is at a hotel which was about a 15-minute walk.

Edward, October

Overall:
We thoroghly enjoyed our experience in Rapallo. The owners were so helpful and friendly. The location was perfect. Walking distance to the markets, grocery stores, ferry, and train station. Best of all was the view and the terrace where we spent most evenings outside eating and visiting.
Enjoyed Most:
The terrace was perfect. All of our socializing was done on the terrace. The location would come in as a second favorite. The house was so well equipped that we didn't need anything that was suggested on the packing checklist.
Surrounding Area:
The town of Rappalo is so charming. It lacks the volume of tourists in nearby areas. We could walk to the train and ferry locations and depart to enjoy everything around yet still feel like we were living like locals.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were right in Rapallo and walking distance to the beach, stores, grocery, ferry and train station.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoy every minute. The moment you leave you will be planning your return.
Directions:
We took a taxi from the train station to the villa so we didn't have to walk with our luggage. The train station in Rapallo is walking distance to the villa.
Check In Out:
Check in was very easy. The owners had already arrived before us. They showed us how to work everything and left a list or restaurants in the area, maps, and pointed us to the things we needed locally. They were so helpful, and Enrico was kind enough to help us get our luggage up and down all the stairs.

Crystal, September

Overall:
This was our 3rd stay at the property in Rapallo in the past 7 years. We gave our 4 children a choice of anywhere in the world to visit, and they unanimously picked Rapallo to go back to for a family vacation. We had another fantastic trip, where we enjoyed the ability to cook, swim in the sea, sail, shop and enjoy a relaxed time. The proximity to the Cinque Terre, Genoa, Milan, Florence and Viareggio allowed everyone to do what they most wanted - whether it was shop or hang in the water. Fantastic!
Enjoyed Most:
The balcony and it's view over the bay and marina are unique and utterly wonderful. We loved watching the boats go out early in the day and return at the end of the day. We also loved looking at the house when we were going out on the sea for the day, and coming in from sailing at the end of the day!
Enjoyed Least:
The property is beautiful, but it is very hot in the middle of the summer. The addition of air conditioning in the Master Bedroom, which cools all three bedrooms in that wing of the apartment really improved the property and allowed everyone to sleep more comfortably.
Surrounding Area:
Rapallo doesn't have the many overseas tourists that other parts of Italy have in the summer, so the atmosphere in the town is very natural and festive in the summer for the people of the area. The fireworks show on July 3rd was absolutely spectacular! ... more impressive than on the national mall in DC, if you can imagine.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The first time we stayed in Rapallo, we walked to Portofino a few times. It's a very athletic walk. The second time, we stayed in Rapallo... we walked to San Margherita Ligure which is plenty of walking for most of us. This year we spent a day at St Michele de Pagana, which is an incredibly lovely spot, which we accessed by walking around a little walkway on the sea.
Tips or Restaurants:
Because their are so many shops in town that sell fresh produce, including pastas and sauces.... it's very easy to cook good food in the apartment. Exploring the various shops and choosing local things to try has been a lot of fun for our family. There are plenty of casual restaurants around, be we would recommend getting off the boardwalks and trying the little restaurants that cater less to holiday travelers.... it's well worth it.
Directions:
We've had a car each time we've stayed in Rapallo, but we've concluded that it's really not worth it... especially if you are 6 or 7 people. The trains are an easier way to get to cities, boat is the best way to see the Cinque Terre and Viareggio's fabulous beaches are easy to get to by train. When arriving.... ask Vivian for help coordinating a pickup at the airport.... she's incredibly helpful. Forget the car!

David, July

Overall:
Quite good.
Enjoyed Most:
Plenty of space and great location with everything within walking distance.
Enjoyed Least:
The noise. Also, although it had the old world charm parts of the villa, it needs a makeover, as it's getting rather tired. It needs proper sun lounges for the deck. There were unpleasant drain smells from the bathroom near the kitchen.
Surrounding Area:
Restaurants coffee shops.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Margherita was quite nearby.
Tips or Restaurants:

Overall:
Fantastic.
Enjoyed Most:
The balcony view.
Enjoyed Least:
The 3 flights of stairs.
Surrounding Area:
The water.
Directions:
The driver found it easily.

Cathy, September

Overall:
We had a splendid time in Rapallo. We would highly recommend the apartment and hope one day our family will enjoy time there together again. It was terrific to have my family together for an Italian experience, culminating in the week at the villa in Rapallo.
Enjoyed Most:
The apartment was very comfortable and we enjoyed many meals on the terrace. The ease of walking across the road to the water for a swim or a few minutes into the city centre to stock up on supplies for the Italian cuisine we were going to prepare at the apartment was a treat.

Steve, July

Overall:
We had a great experience. The apartment is very well located close to lots of restaurants, the train, and it had a great views of the bay. We loved sitting on the balcony watching the "people parade" in the evening.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was great although parking was tough. We took the train several days which was nice. The owners met us and it was great that they spoke English and could explain everything to us. They were very helpful and left us lots of information about where to eat, grocery stores, etc.
Enjoyed Least:
It is noisy at night until very late if you have the windows open. It was very cool so we did not try the AC. That might have cut down on the noise but it's only in the master bed room. The other bedrooms do not have AC.
Surrounding Area:
Rapallo is very beautiful and well situated to explore the coast. You can take the ferries to Portofino, Santa Margarita and the Cinque Terra or the train to Genoa. We really enjoyed Genoa as the owners encouraged us to go there since Americans do not know much of the city. It is Beautiful. We used the guide that they recommended and she was great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rapallo itself is rather small and you can walk to Santa Margarita in about 30 minutes. Also, take the funicular up the the cathedral of Montellogro. The views are wonderful, and the Church and gardens are just beautiful.
Tips or Restaurants:
All the restaurants were good but we really enjoyed the ones off the sea wall down in the old part of the city.
Check In Out:
It was wonderful to have the owners meet us and explain everything to us. They were very helpful and left us their number in case we had any problems.

Linda, June

Overall:
We had a fabulous week, everyday was fantastic. We were able to use Captain Piero and Alessandra's yacht, which was a great day with loads of information about the area. We also went to Florence for the day with Piero.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and just the whole Italian experience. We could live that life style!
Enjoyed Least:
Not really anything.
Surrounding Area:
So many things to see and do. We needed much more than one week.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Margherita is a beautiful town, especially the church on the hill
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa had everything you would want. We found Mario's restaurant excellent.
Check In Out:
The owner was there to greet us. Unfortunately, our train was late getting in and we missed Captain Piero picking us up from the train station, which he had offer to do for us.

Denise , April

Overall:
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! We can't wait to go back.
Enjoyed Most:
This was an absolutely beautiful villa. The online pictures don't do it justice. The view was equally amazing. The property owners were very friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
The area is very noisy at night. There's not much to be done about this. Next time we would take earplugs.
Surrounding Area:
Rapallo and the neighboring coastal towns, such as Santa Margherita and Portofino, are so picturesque. We enjoyed the architecture, shopping and fabulous food. Also, we found people to be very friendly here, as well as patient with our less than great mastery of the Italian language.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is right in Rapallo allowing an easy walk to anything of interest.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Frigidarium has the best gelato and is a very short walk from the villa. Every restaurant we went to was a culinary delight. Bring earplugs- people congregate in the town until very late and the cars and motor scooters are noisy.
Directions:
The property owners arranged a cab to bring us to the property from the Genoa airport. After a long travel, we welcomed how easy and convenient this was.
Check In Out:
The property owners were well organized, offering many tips on making our stay enjoyable. They also had a bowl of fruit, milk, bread, coffee and wine waiting for us. What terrific hosts!

Dianna, July

Enjoyed Most:
It is a beautiful property in a great location, and the owners are very nice people who were gracious and helpful. The addition of the yacht was fantastic and Piero and Alessandra couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. In regard to the villa, the terrace and balconies of the villa were also wonderful for having a glass of wine and watching the world go by.
Enjoyed Least:
It needs air conditioning which would also reduce the noise level. It could use more accessories - for example, it had no wine glasses so we bought some and left them for the owners and future guests. The common entrance area could use a cleaning as could the common steps.
Surrounding Area:
Everything - the yacht allowed us to see areas at a leisurely pace with excellent company and food. Walking around Rapallo was also very nice.
Tips or Restaurants:
We found that with the yacht, we did not need a car. In the future we would probably have taken a train and left the car in Milan.
Check In Out:
Very well done. They left us a bottle of wine which was a very nice gesture and some coffee and access to basics which we could use and replace. They sat with us and explained everything about the villa, how to care for it and what was close by. It was a marked change from the villa we had stayed in the previous week up on Lake Como. We rented that villa from Parker and when we got there we were pretty much given the keys and told very little.

Evan, August

Overall:
We were in total agreement with the previous comments about this beautiful property -- I still long to be having my morning coffee on the wonderful terrace and watching Rapallo awaken.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a perfect location for strolling the old town and promenade and had a nicely appointed living area. Our group members that chose to use the yacht loved our excursions to Portofino, Cinque Terre and just cruising the coast. Having Piero play his guitar delighted not only us, but some Italian friends who joined us for one day. The young set also loved the aquarium in Genoa. We appreciated all the help and recommendations from our hosts and Piero and his wife!
Enjoyed Least:
Again, only negatives were the night noises, some heat, and some mosquito action.
Surrounding Area:
Fairly easy day trips to Lucca and Pisa and another day to Genoa where we were pleasantly surprised to discover, through a recommended tour guide, one of the most interesting cities in Italy!

Elizabeth, June

Enjoyed Most:
Its location. its authenticity, an original Italian villa.
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of fly screens We know, its a European thing. It would have made a huge difference, because we couldn't sleep with the windows open. Age of electrical appliances. things like kettle and toaster were useless and television was very old and remote wouldn't work. Rapallo is a summer resort town. We arrived in early October and it rained most of the time. It would have been helpful if the owners included a few English and perhaps other language videos and a few better reading lights in the lounge room. Editor's Notes: The owners have replaced the toaster, kettle and TV - November 2005.
Surrounding Area:
Cafes, shops, friendly people, the surrounding towns and waterways and of course the Cinque Terre.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring insect repellent so that you can open the windows during the day and spray the room at night. the area is full of really good restaurants and cafes. Don't just eat on the waterfront. The best of the restaurants were in the back streets.
Check In Out:
The owners met us themselves and showed us around the Villa. Very hospitable people.

Sally T.A., October

Overall:
Just a wonderful experience.. The owners were very helpful and nice. If you are driving a car, make arrangements ahead of time for parking. The owners can make those arrangements.
Enjoyed Most:
The boat captain and his wife took us all along the coastal area and the views were beatiful..The food on the boat was great and Piero and Alessandra fixed dinner several times at night. Wow what a experience! If you want to experience how real Italians live this is the place for you. The villa is very nice and comfortable and views could not be better.
Enjoyed Least:
Noise at night time but really this is part of the beauty of the location..
Surrounding Area:
The people, the food, the wine, and the scenery
Nearby Events or Locales:
You can walk all over Rapallo and catch the Ferry to several other small towns or take the train to the Cinque Terre
Tips or Restaurants:
All the restaurants were excellent. I have never had a bad meal in Italy..
Directions:
Park the car and walk to find the property. Their is a lot of traffic in the area...

Gary, June

Enjoyed Most:
It was a great location right across from the beach with a beautiful, large terrace for watching everything going on as well as enjoying the beautiful view. The property is in a great location -- both in terms of being right on the edge of town and in terms of lots of great day trips nearby. The apartment was beautiful and spacious and the owners and skipper and his family were very nice and accommodating. When we were there the seas were too rough to go out most days and the skipper and his wife offered to take us on some local hikes, instead.
Enjoyed Least:
It was very noisy at night in the master bedroom and especially in the kids' bedroom. It was much quieter if we closed the windows, but we wanted the sea breeze to keep things cool. Also, I thought the tender was too small -- it may be because we had rough weather, which I think was unusual, but it wasn't very easy to get on and off the boat when using the tender.
Surrounding Area:
Great access to the Cinque Terre and lots of beautiful towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The apartment sits on the edge of Rapallo, so it is about a one-minute walk to the shops. There isn't a garden, but a beautiful park with playground, tennis, badminton, mini golf about a three-minute walk away.
Tips or Restaurants:
We liked the family restaurant right down the street just past the wonderful internet cafe. and Lucca near the port. Great food shops in town.

Sharon, June

Overall:
We really loved the location. The terrace was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, view, charming. We took the boat for a day and that was wonderful. Owners of boat and apartment were very nice and accommodating.
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were very stiff, and the couches in the living room weren't very comfortable. You might want to mention it could be difficult for someone to walk up two stories, as there is no elevator.
Surrounding Area:
Location, restaurant across the street, cafe bar below. Proximity to the harbor and shopping. The location was the best. Close to train station and supermarket.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Margherita di Ligure---within walking distance if you can and like to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed the on-water restaurant across the street. The staff was great and food was good. There is also a local restaurant down the street next to the cafe where the food was pretty good. The staff was obviously more attentive to locals.
Directions:
Arriving on the weekend with a car was difficult at best. No available parking, and stopping to let off people with luggage was difficult. During the week, parking was not a problem.
Check In Out:
We had to have keys duplicated, as we had a large group, and we were all going in different directions.

Jeanne, May

Overall:
The apartment is extremely large by European standards. More than worth the price of admission!
Enjoyed Most:
The apartment was spacious and comfortable, and felt like home away from home. The location was exceptional and the view was beautiful, inspiring and tranquil. It had everything necessary for total enjoyment without compromise.
Enjoyed Least:
The coffee pot was small.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area consisted of mountains tumbling into seashore, unlimited vistas and easy access by train and bus.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Margherita was the nearest town, 20-30 minute walk but only 5 minutes by train.
Tips or Restaurants:
Best restaurants for high-end dining are in Santa Margherita. Best authentic local food is found at Giovanni's, mostly local clientel with few tourists.
Check In Out:
Fast and easy!

David, November

Overall:
The apartment was unique, clean, large enough, and had great views.
Enjoyed Most:

The owners were very nice and the boat was a lot of fun for the whole family. Piero and Alessandra spent time with us off the boat showing us little country restaurants.

May

Overall:
The apartment is beautiful, full of Old World charm, and very comfortable. The owners and the captain and his wife were absolutely delightful people who made the stay even more wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
Using the boat, and the beautiful terrace.
Enjoyed Least:
As in most of Europe, there are no screens on the windows so in order to stay cool at night, you must put up with a few mosquitoes. Not a huge problem, though.
Surrounding Area:
The town of Rapallo had everything we needed, but the surrounding towns were also beautiful. It is possible to visit many of them by boat.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make use of the wonderful boat and Piero and Alessandra - they were fantastic!!

Jennifer, July

Enjoyed Most:
Size - Location.
Enjoyed Least:
Noise.
Surrounding Area:
Cinque Terre, Genoa and small seaports.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Having Piero and the yacht available was a highlight. Piero and his wife are both very knowledgeable (about everything) and extremly entertaining!

Ann, June

Overall:
The property was more than fine, especially the boat where we spent most of our time.
Enjoyed Most:
The location which was glorious as well as the property owners who acted more like hosts than landlords. We thought they were wonderful and spent a day as well as a meal with them. The apartment itself has a fantastic view of the boardwalk frontage and the harbor with a nice square in front with a fountain.
Enjoyed Least:
The noise level, which in the cities in Italy honestly cannot be helped, althought the source of the noise here is the fountain and the people who congregate there.
Surrounding Area:
We spent most of our time on a boat out front with Pero and Alessandra who own and run the boat.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Boating.
