Customer Reviews

Overall:
Fabulous, wonderful, relaxing! The historic house is a treasure. The pool and beautiful garden made our time at Villa Naoussa memorable for my whole family (me, my husband, my 8 year old and 4 year old sons, and my mother!)
Enjoyed Most:
The location of the house, in the midst of this historic and traditional village, plus the private pool and garden make this house perfect.
Enjoyed Least:
The ladder-like staircase requires some additional vigilance, but it's worth it.
Surrounding Area:
The food! We ate a lot of grilled octopus, and white anchovies, and squid... local cheese and eggplant...the village itself is beautiful and vibrant.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Yes, we were in the town, which makes this house special.
Tips or Restaurants:
Prior comments mention the noise of the surrounding village, but we did not experience any unpleasant noise. It was hot and we paid for the air-conditioning, so the windows were closed, so I recommend if noise is an issue for you pay for the air-conditioning (Frankly, I was looking forward to hearing the hustle and bustle of the town through the windows... but it was too hot when we arrived not to have the air-conditioning!) We bought beach towels and sand toys when we arrived, but brought floaties for the pool.
Directions:
The key holders/owners met us in the town square. It could not have been eaiser.
Check In Out:
It was so nice to be greeted by the owners of the property. They are very proud of their home and they should be. They provided us with all the information we needed about the house and where to buy groceries. And we arrived late on a Saturday, so they even stocked our kitchen with some food to get us started because most shops were closed Sunday morning. It was very thoughtful of them.

Stephen, June

Overall:
It was without question the best time we have ever had, and we have rented villas in many countries. Loved the town, the house, the garden, the pool. I want to go back tomorrow. Wish it weren't so very far from New York and so hard to get to.
Enjoyed Most:
The garden, the pool, and the location right in the middle of the town, but secluded.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen is poorly equipped, but that saved me from wanting to cook. Odd set up for hot water, but we learned to take cold showers. Dishwasher was a mystery. Maybe because of no hot water. Laundry facility okay, but I would not count on doing a lot of laundry. Editor's Note: The owner has replied that for hot water, you press the switch to have hot water within 10 minutes. For the dishwasher, you select the temperature and press ON. He will prepare written instructions for the villa.
Surrounding Area:
Love the town, everything about it, and the boats to the beaches were the best. The beaches themslever were so beautiful, so European with their amenities. The crystal clear blue water was shallow enough so that my 3 year old granddaughter could safely spend all day in the water - when she wasn't in the pool at the house!
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought down pillows and cases for all the beds, and left them there. Bought beach towels and also left them. You need a clock. Spotty CD player The restaurants abound and all were excellent.

Dorothy, July

Overall:
A fantastic experience - it was so delightful to live for a week in a small village.
Enjoyed Most:
The location, the fabulous courtyard.
Enjoyed Least:
Some outside noises at night.
Surrounding Area:
It was a typical Greek village which only seemed to get crowded with visitors after 6:00pm. The island was beautiful, very uncrowded.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Naoussa was right outside the door - the walled villa is in the center of the village.
Tips or Restaurants:
Two great restaurants - the Romantica is at the end of the alley next to the courtyard, take a right and 1st left. The Taverna Mistral is right beyond the Romantica - both fantastic family-run restaurants specializing in local Greek cuisine.

Stanley, September

Overall:
Our experience here was amazing. The villa is exactly as shown.
Enjoyed Most:
The backyard pool area is amazing. A great place to hang out for the day and feel like you are in your own little oasis. The pool is deep though, so not suitable for small children.
Enjoyed Least:
The property is in the middle of town so you can expect to hear noise from the surrounding area as the sound carries down the surrounding walkways.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a market right across the street from the villa which carries a majority of anything you will need. Also the little bar right around the corner (turn left as you come out of the backyard walkway) has wi-fi and the owner of the place is great! We had many fun nights hanging out there.

Leslie, May

Overall:
We loved Villa Naoussa. It has a great history - about 400 years old and renovated to the degree that it was on the cover of a magazine. It combined modern convenience with the historical view of the property.
Enjoyed Most:
The backyard and the swimming pool are unbelievable. Being literally right in the village of Naoussa - just walk out your front door was great.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room could have a little more seating - there really was only room for about three people to sit. Also the TV could be updated.
Surrounding Area:
The village of Naoussa has great shops and boutiques along with numerous restaurants with great food - all walking distance.
Nearby Events or Locales:
This villa is in the town.
Tips or Restaurants:
For future renters - important to know that there is a very steep staircase to the upper floor - this would not be good perhaps for less mobile people. Forget the name of the restaurant - but we particularly like the one that is just out the back door of the villa and down to the beach - not the harbor. Great food, great view, great service.
Directions:
The owners met us and were very very helpful and cordial.

Scott, June

Enjoyed Most:
Wonderful - The garden with pool was an oasis - very private and comfortable in every way. The kitchen was very well equipped. We couldn't have been more satisfied with the location in the town. The owners' welcome was special and set the tone for our 2 week stay.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room has comfortable seating for 3, but if more people are staying, not enough without bringing in the hard wooden kitchen chairs. The upstairs bathroom was small and the shower was awkward.
Surrounding Area:
2-10 minutes walking distance to everything you would reasonably want to buy or experience. Shopping, restaurants, bus transportation and car-bicycle-scooter rentals were within a 5 minutes walk.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is located within Naoussa.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a cutting board and beach towels if applicable. If the pool is where you want to swim, the towels are not required. Very good restaurants that were quite reasonably priced were Pervolaria, Open Garden and the one directly across the road from Open Garden with a large outdoor seating area. The ones that are right on the water were not nearly as good and more costly. Cristoph's was excellent but much more expensive so the value equation was not as good.
Directions:
We appreciated the owners coming to the square to help us and show us the way to their villa, a short 2-3 minute walk away.
Check In Out:
The owner was most gracious both at the beginning and the end of our stay.

Wayne, September

Overall:
Absolutely the quintessential traditional Greek villa with the outdoor area beautiful with a pool surrounded by red geraniums and bougainvillea and four seating areas. Gate from the pool area right into the main area of town. Much bigger than the pictures show and exceeded our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
Quiet and private but in the center of Naoussa. Very charming owners. Had modern conveniences but with old world charm.
Enjoyed Least:
Beautiful pool, but deep. There is only a 5 foot area that an adult could stand. Not for children. The living room could use a better sofa and arrangement. No cable TV - missed CNN. No phone. The stairs to the second floor could be dangerous for children.
Surrounding Area:
Smack in the town. Out the door to all the shops and restaurants and grocers yet at the end of a dead end so very quiet. Naoussa very upscale village. Short walk to the harbor , bus, taxi stand and phones.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Villa is right in the center of Naoussa.
Tips or Restaurants:
Has a CD player--bring CDs. Has an iron and board, washer, dishwasher, etc. Well outfitted in the kitchen. Bring an alarm clock. The best restaurant was Perivolaria. Walk to the square daily for bread next to the taxi stand. Larger supermarket up the road next to a vegetable store. Mini marts right out the door but more expensive than the supermarket.

Nicholas , June

Overall:
Wonderful place, wonderful people.
Enjoyed Most:
Central location; backyard was pretty.
Enjoyed Least:
Bathrooms.
Surrounding Area:
You could walk to everything.
Tips or Restaurants:
Minimize your water usage.

Deborah, June

Overall:
Fantastic gardens and the sheer luxury of having a pool in such a convenient position.
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful swimming pool and gardens
Enjoyed Least:
The mattresses and pillows are a little bit uncomfortable. There is also noise in the night from the tenant of the property next door. Because of the proximity, it does tend to wake everyone up.
Surrounding Area:
The town is surprisingly chic and cosmopolitan given the size of the it.
Check In Out:
The owners are very kind and welcoming and ensure that each renter is personally met.

Alicia, June

Overall:
All in all we all loved it. The house was delightful. When you are in the back garden by the pool you feel a million miles from anything, then you go out either the front door or the back garden door, and, you are in the middle of the village. Quite an unusual and fun combination.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the charm of the house, the obvious love the owners have for it, the convenience of being right in the village, and the delightful pool in the back garden.
Enjoyed Least:
The only drawback was the steepness of the stairs to the second floor. It was not a problem for us because we put our adult children upstairs, but, it could be a problem for a family with small children or elderly couples. We were lucky with the weather, the living room could have been small had we been in it all day and night.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the village, and ventured to all parts of the island. We hiked the Byzantine Road, and rented motor bikes on Antiparos. We went to numerous beaches.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You are in the nearest small town. You had to park your car in the public lot and walk to the house. A delightful reversal of the norm!
Tips or Restaurants:
We found that the shops closed in the afternoon, as reported , but they were open again Saturday evening and on Sunday. Beach towels are a must. We took mosquito nets and we were glad we did. They supplied soap, dish sponge, hairdryer, CD player.
Directions:
It all worked perfectly. The owners met us in the town square and led us to the property. It is important to have a phone, though.
Check In Out:
They gave us very good directions regarding the house.

Virginia, June

Enjoyed Most:
The historical 350 year old house; The Location - Close to everything; Layout of the yard and pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Beds. We had one night when loud music went on till 3 am. Ear plugs to sleep might help.
Surrounding Area:
Town was beautiful; Great location town is beautiful; Great Restaurants and shopping. Everything is within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Mitsi's. Great food on the beach....short walk out the back gate.

Anthony, May

Overall:
It's a villa that I almost want to keep it to myself so that I can rent it again down the road. Well, at the end, I raved about it to my friends and everyone thought it really looks like a paradise, too.
Enjoyed Most:
It is easier to answer if it's rephrased as "what NOT to like about it"? I love this paradise in Naoussa. The pool, the three patio areas, the beautiful garden and its location all made it really hard to venture outside to explore Naoussa.
Enjoyed Least:
I would prefer the mattress in our bedroom to have better support.
Surrounding Area:
Everything! The village is not touristic, very charming, indeed. All of us walked everywhere, just taking in the nice weather, beautiful azure sea view and sometimes leisurely watching the fishermen repair their nets. Shopping was surprisingly great - both in price and quality. Crafts, jewelery, fashion etc. We even found a fishmonger and butcher shop, so we cooked wonderful seafood dinners a few evening.
Nearby Events or Locales:
But there are enough things to do since hanging out in the villa was such a joy. We rented a car for very reasonable price and explored the island for a day.
Tips or Restaurants:
I think future renters should be aware of the timing of their stay. We rented in early October so weather was still nice but ferry schedules to islands nearby were getting infrequent and inconvenient to explore other islands. Early October offers a non-touristic feel of Naoussa, very relaxing and quiet. However, I can imagine if one rents in the summer, it's probably going to be noisy at night from the streets outside as noise carries far in those cobbled stone paths.

Bonnie, October

Overall:
The owners were very welcoming and helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
It was in town and close to restaurants and shopping, but quiet and secluded with a wonderful pool. The garden in September was a magnificent blast of color.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing really significant, but the beds were harder than we like, and the upstairs shower was hand-held.
Surrounding Area:
Easy access to all the island of Paros by bus. The bus station was only two or three minutes stroll from the villa. Supermarket was within 100 yards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the middle of Naoussa. All easy walking.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owners recommended Pervolaria, which was excellent. There were numerous good fish restaurants on the waterfront. Very well appointed except for lack of a kettle. We used the microwave for coffee, etc. We were given four small towels for the pool and beach. We just bought two and brought them back with us.

John, September

Overall:
This property was outstanding in every way. I am a well-traveled businessman and frequent 5-star hotels and villas all over the world. This was, without question, outstanding in every way. I highly recommend this to anyone.
Enjoyed Most:
Well kept, beautifully landscaped. Secluded for privacy yet conveniently located to city activities.
Enjoyed Least:
So beautiful it was hard to leave it.
Surrounding Area:
The nightlife and restaurants of Naoussa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Naoussa is within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything you need is there. There are too many good restaurants to single one out.

David, July

Overall:
It was a dream come true. It was exactly what we wanted. A villa with our own pool, a place we could have peace but walk everywhere.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners have kept the villa true to the Cyclades architecture. It's beautiful, very special. The outside pool area was incredible. Also, the location was fabulous. Steps from shops, dining, bakeries, green grocer...everything!
Enjoyed Least:
That we had to leave!
Surrounding Area:
Naoussa is small but has everything to offer. The dining was consistently wonderful, and everyone was kind and hospitable.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Steps away...yet you're secluded in your own special property.
Tips or Restaurants:
Every restaurant is fabulous. Go to Cosmos for cappuccinos it's right around the corner. Buy the local wines and produce.
Check In Out:
The owners were very hospitable.

Karen, June

Enjoyed Most:
The garden is lovely. Nice big pool. Secluded whilst being in town. Nice patio areas. I don't think that they normally provide a CD player but luckily for us someone else had asked for one and they thought that it was us!
Enjoyed Least:
Front entrance and surrounding buildings in dilapidated state. No safe or safety deposit facilities. Limited indoor lounge facilities. Very noisy fridge. Needs more pillows and towels. Pillows were like bricks.
Surrounding Area:
Close proximity to restaurants and convenience stores and beaches.
Tips or Restaurants:
Le Sud - French. Over the back lane.

Sandra, June

Enjoyed Most:
The full service kitchen, the proximity to grocery markets and other retail shopping, and the great outdoor patio and pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The cleaning crew was not the best, and we didn't have enough trash bags, paper towels or napkins to use throughout the week, so we ended up buying those on our own.
Surrounding Area:
The shopping in Naoussa, the easy travel to other villages and cities on the island.

Lori , April

Enjoyed Most:
The garden, pool, all outdoors areas were sublime. The owners were lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
On about 6-7 nights out of 14, we could hear loud music and partying from the local bar scene starting around 11:30pm until early morning. This may have been more of a problem for us than previous renters because we chose not to use air-conditioning, and thus had our windows open with, no ambient air-conditioning sound to mask the noise. At any rate, it is the only draw-back to the property that is otherwise lovely in every way.
Surrounding Area:
Everything! The beach nearby was a minute's walk away, other beaches were fabulous. The shops were fun and our two weeks flew by.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring beach towels. Eat at one of the tavernas at Kolybithres, our favorite beach and wonderful food. Check out the Mycenean ruin on the way to Kolybithres it provides some fun clambering around on rocks, especially for children.

Blair, August

Overall:
It's really quite nice. They've thought of everything. Location, privacy, and pool.
Enjoyed Most:
This house was featured on the latest cover of the Greek Better Homes and Gardens! The garden and pool area was fantastic! The landlords were helpful and caring. The rennovation on the bathrooms brought the house into the very good category. As an ex-Pat living in Europe for almost 20 years now, I thought the bedrooms were huge. The toilet off the kitchen is a "boat bathroom", one where the bathroom IS the shower , but the two other bathrooms are American standard.....as good as a 3 or 4 star hotel in Europe. Air conditioning was quite appreciated!
Enjoyed Least:
One of the guests said her mattress was a bit lumpy but, since she had air conditioning, she didn't care. Would have been nice to have had dishwashing soap.
Surrounding Area:
The small shops and lack of traffic in the city made our wanderings so relaxed.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the small town and it's truly lovely.
Tips or Restaurants:
All of the restaurants were typical, local and had amazing fish dishes. I loved being in the town! I don't cook unless I stumble across a market with wonderful fish/veggies and going out for breakfast or for walks before breakfast was a wonderful option! I bought so much silver jewelry from the potter/artisan at the corner who "knew me immediately" and "felt a connection." It's amazing.....silver and gemstones! Handmade!

Ruth, June

Enjoyed Most:
Best location in the best town in Paros - full of life and all within 200 meters. A pretty garden with a lovely pool. Don't need to drive except to go to the beaches and visit other towns.
Enjoyed Least:
The baths are lousy so you dive in the pool for a good refresher. Owners are lovely people and recognize the need to improve the bathrooms. Hope they find a solution.
Surrounding Area:
Were in Paros the whole week and cancelled our plans to ferry to other islands. In Paros, Naoussa is were you want to be.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The house is right in the middle of town but never noisy.
Tips or Restaurants:
Restauarants are plenty, casual, good and a bargain. You can eat calamari and other fresh fish 7 days a week.

Stephen , September

Overall:
The owners were lovely people who truly love the property.
Enjoyed Most:
The garden and pool were wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
The bathrooms were difficult to use and keep clean. The beds were uncomfortable.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the village. It was very easy to get around.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nauossa. Yes, everything was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pergoloria is an excellent restaurant within walking distance of the villa.

Melissa, June

Overall:
The owners are lovely and personable and have a genuine fondness for their property. The villa is a wonderful place to spend a holiday and we would definitely recommend it!
Enjoyed Most:
The garden and pool were beautiful and very well maintained. They were also extremely private despite the villa being so centrally located.
Enjoyed Least:
The bathrooms. Quite small and hard to keep clean. Also, the downstairs is rather dark unless lights are turned on, even during the day.
Surrounding Area:
The villa is in a perfect location, right in the center of the village. The village itself is charming with lots of restaurants and shops around. The villa is also only a few steps away from the ocean!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Naoussa. The villa is located right within the village itself.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring towels for the beach.
Check In Out:
The owners are willing to work with you on your check in and check out times.
