Customer Reviews

Overall:
The villa was beautiful. The staff members who attended to us were truly excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was spectacular. We were constantly outside on the various terraces overlooking the Mediterranean.
Enjoyed Least:
Lots of stairs. Lack of amenities at the pool, i.e. flotation devices for pool, easy access to drinks and snacks. American TV channels.
Surrounding Area:
We loved Amalfi. Walked into the village daily. Loved Capri, Positano, and Ravello. Thoroughly enjoyed all the places we went.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi. It was walking distance for most of us as we are regular exercise walkers. It was about a one-hour round trip walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Better soap in bathrooms would have been nice. We went out and bought regular-sized bars of soap.
Directions:
The directions were excellent. We drove from Rome. We actually passed the villa but immediately called our concierge and were quickly re-directed back.
Check In Out:
No. It was very smooth. Carmella, our housekeeper, Antonietta, our concierge and Biago, our driver were fabulous. Biago made our visit absolutely fantastic. We named him the Mayor of Amalfi as he knew everyone and all the best places to visit, eat and shop. Our stay was truly magical.

Overall:
Overall, we strongly recommend this villa because of its comfort and beauty and also because of the excellence of the people associated with the villa and the lovely help we had while we were there.
Enjoyed Most:
The views are spectacular. The villa is very comfortable and well situated for day trips as well as walking. Another review stated that the noise was a problem, but we did not find it to be so.
Enjoyed Least:
A disappointment on arrival was the fact that the steps to the beach no longer exist. They were washed away about a year ago. Thus, the villa has no beach access as anticipated, but we still enjoyed the property very much. On the negative side, when we arrived there were problems with the pool and ants. The pool wasn't clean when we arrived. In addition, there is a great deal of vegetation at this villa that creates a problem with ants. However, the property manager is VERY responsive. The villa was sprayed and the pool cleaned on the same day that we notified her of the problem.
Surrounding Area:
The Amalfi Coast is beautiful and a perfect vacation spot for a family. There is a great deal to do and see. The variety of choices of activities is such that whether you are very adventurous or very laid back, you will find activities to enjoy.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is well situated. We could walk to Amalfi within 20-30 minutes. In addition, there are several restaurants within a 10 minute walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
The property manager arranged for several excursions for us, including a day in Pompeii and a day on Capri. The quality of the excursions was wonderful. We had a boat for 10 of us to Capri and the ride and tour around the island were excellent, as well as the guide we had (Fabian) while on the island. The same was true for our trip to Pompeii, where our drivers gave us interesting facts about the local areas we drove through and our tour guide in Pompeii (Francesca) was very knowledgeable. We would HIGHLY recommend that you hire the chef, Luigi, for an evening. We held a birthday party for our mom. The food was incredible--better than most restaurants.

Overall:
Very good except for the rain.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and outside appointments - pool/spa/bath, terraces, were excellent. Good off-street parking. The maid was superb, going out of her way to help.
Enjoyed Least:
The 2 rooms outside the main building had small bathrooms with shower cubicles many adults could not fit into. The kitchen was quite small.
Surrounding Area:
The views were good but the coastline is beautiful everywhere.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi. It's a 25-minute walk downhill.
Tips or Restaurants:
Buy your groceries in a big town where they are cheaper. Be prepared for slow driving anywhere along the coast road.
Directions:
GPS not really necessary. There is virtually only one road.
Check In Out:
Very efficient.

Michael, April

Overall:
The entire Amalfi Coast Area was amazingly beautiful, and this villa is placed perfectly to see all of the area. The villa itself was stunning, sleeping 12 easily in comfort. All amenities were thought of, including a built in wine cooler with a selection of wine. Both the housekeeper and the gardener were friendly and very helpful. This was one of our favorite vacations.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the terraced gardens with the pool at the back.
Enjoyed Least:
Traffic noise from the Amalfi drive at all hours.
Surrounding Area:
Amazing markets and small towns, the beach, the private boat trip to Capri. This area of Italy has an amazing feeling of it's own that was great to experience.
Tips or Restaurants:
Visit Ravello for a day, or a large part of a day. There was a great restaurant in Ravello, Compo Cusima, with Nettie Bottone as the cook for the last 45 years. Ravello also had 2 stunning villas with some of the best views around, and lots of great ceramic shops.

Overall:
Everyone had a wonderful time and thought the villa was beautiful.
Enjoyed Most:
Terraces, views, pool and bathrooms.
Enjoyed Least:
Narrow street.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful vistas.
Tips or Restaurants:
The staff were wonderful and very helpful. Be sure to see the church in Amalfi.
Directions:
Taxi cab drivers and bus drivers know the villa by name.
Check In Out:
All the brochures were very helpful.

Mildred, May

Enjoyed Most:
The outside view and landscaping were beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
The rooms and kitchen were pretty basic. Make sure the pool is filled before you go. We arrived and the pool was empty and we couldn't swim in it because the water was too cold. Editor's Note: The villa was completely renovated in late April 2008.
Surrounding Area:
The views were beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi. Yes, but have to be careful of cars.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a Bose IPod docking station for music outside. Transportation was difficult. Make sure you rent a car or driver. We spent a lot of extra money on taxis, when we didn't realize the driver would have been cheaper.

Jessie, June

Enjoyed Most:
Outside was spectacular.
Enjoyed Least:
Kitchen is tiny, noise from the road is an issue...
Surrounding Area:
Amalfi is very cool, but Ravello rocks!!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi, and yes you could walk to it. We did, but you don't want to walk back as it's all uphill...
Tips or Restaurants:
The Bose I-pod docking station-speaker was a lifesaver as we used it non-stop outside. Both restaurants up the hill - take a left as you come out of the villa - were very good...the restaurant down at the Santa Croce beach, another formidable climb, was outstanding...Have the local agent hook you up with Biaggio, a local driver...you won't be sorry.

Overall:
If you are travelling from the U.S., be prepared for a unique and different beach vacation. While we enjoyed it very much, we didn't think that the villa or the Amalfi Coast were as luxurious as most very high-end Mexican resorts or home rentals.
Enjoyed Most:
The view is incredible and the staff was great.
Enjoyed Least:
The showers were small. There are lots of bugs and ants if ANY food is left out or crumbs on the floor. I had problems getting the phone to work.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful views, the food and the culture.
Nearby Events or Locales:
A few tiny towns, but Amalfi was very close. Amalfi is a very enjoyable 15-20 minute walk from the Villa....but be careful of the cars on the narrow roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
1. Have dinner at The Hotel Santa Caterina 2. Enjoy a lunch at the Hotel Caruso in Ravello. 3. Definitely charter your own boat for a cruise along the coast and to visit Capri. This is a MUST.
Check In Out:
The local property agent was great. Remember that a security deposit is needed upon arrival in the form of travelers checks or cash.

Billy, August

Overall:
The villa is in excellent condition. The pool was very refreshing after a day of trekking. Our wedding could not have been more wonderful!
Enjoyed Most:
The gardens were absolutely incredible...thanks to wonderful Gerardo! He did the flowers for our wedding...fabulous!!!
Enjoyed Least:
One of the rooms was a lot smaller than the others. This led to some problems with equity on splitting the costs.
Surrounding Area:
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful places that I have traveled n the world. Ravello is charming and Amalfi was bustling and fun.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We did walk to Amalfi a couple of times. However, the roads are very windy and traffic is a bit scary.
Tips or Restaurants:
Both of the restaurants above the villa to the left were fabulous. One, Al Pesce de Oro, went out of their way to make us all happy.
Directions:
Once you know the area, the directions are fine. At first, it was a bit confusing to get there.
Check In Out:
The property manager was excellent.

Diana, July

Overall:
The people who work at the villa could not have been nicer.
Enjoyed Most:
The back of the house, the back of the house, the back of the house. Local flavor.
Enjoyed Least:
Showers are small. The nosie from the street is a problem but not so much.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi is only 1 1/2 miles from the house, but it is not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The outside sound system needs to be upgraded or people need to adapt. We took the system out onto the deck and hooked it up, which worked reasonably well. As for restaurants, Ristorante Eolo in Amalfi was great. Cocktails should be at the Palazzo Sasso or the Hotel Palumbo in Ravello. The Bellinis at the Santa Caterina Hotel in Amalfi are the best in the world, but pricey.

Bruce, June

Enjoyed Most:
The property worked very well for a large group. Lovely setting and very clean, comfortable, and staff could not have been nicer. Enough space in case you wanted to get away from it all. The pool was quite lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
The property is located on a curved part of the road, so noise was obvious. One thing we had to get used to was the church bells right behind property that chimed every hour, on the hour - all night!!. Also, the traffic started at 6:00am with beeping horns, which was heard in the main part of house that was close to the road. However, we understood that most properties on the Amafi coast are built up the cliffs, and Italians love to lean on the horn. Maybe that's why the bells chime on the hour - to warn them of the curves in the road!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
We loved the whole area.
Directions:
Your directions and instructions to the property were excellent and very detailed.

Pat, September

Overall:
We've rented 6 times in France and Italy. I would say the bedroom and bathrooms were much better than average. The service at the house was amazing. The view is unbeatable. I'd just warn people about the noise---it's not like sleeping in Tuscany or a more rural area.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, the many places to sit and relax, and the staff - Angela, Gerardo, Antonietta.
Enjoyed Least:
It is noisy at night. The beds are comfortable, the night air is beautiful, but the windows face the road. The cars, motorcycles, and people noise go onto until quite late.
Surrounding Area:
Each of the towns is wonderful to visit - the beaches, the piazzas, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi. It is in walking distance, but you can't walk there without taking your life into your hands. There are no sidewalks, the road is narrow and twisted, and car and bus traffic is constant.
Tips or Restaurants:
We hired a boat for a day and that was a great experience. I'd suggest a day trip to Ravello for sure, an amazing town. Also, do check out all the little towns even if getting there is difficult.

Joanne, August

Enjoyed Most:
The view, the pool, the location is very central for exploring, nice wine cellar. The staff was very helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
The beds are softer than we like, and the kitchen is not well equipped to cook for 12 people. I love to cook, and wanted to cook every night.
Surrounding Area:
Many good restaurants within 30 minutes especially, La Paranza... Drives around the area were deliriously enjoyable, yet scary. Biaggio, the taxi driver from Atrani, rocks. He will take you anywhere!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Many towns around! Not really walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring an IPOD loaded up with music and an RCA cable. They have a small boom-box to use by the pool. Do La Paranza in Atrani, and L'Arsenale in Minori. They are the best you will find for the money in the area. Air conditioning is expensive.

Frank, July

Enjoyed Most:
The staff. They were excellent. The villa itself is very nice, while the location is probably second, for me. Very close to Amalfi and close to Positano.
Enjoyed Least:
No stereo piped in all over the property.
Surrounding Area:
Amalfi and Positano. Very charming.
Tips or Restaurants:
Have the house cook make big family dinners.
Directions:
It gets a little dicey in the small towns after Naples. Could be a little clearer there.
