Customer Reviews

Overall:
Our overall experience was very positive. We had a great time whether we were relaxing by the villa or exploring a city or town on a day trip. The villa offers plenty of space for a group to relax and enjoy either quiet time, boisterous togetherness, or both!
Enjoyed Most:
The views, the sunsets, the quiet privacy, and the opportunity to live as an Italian for two weeks.
Enjoyed Least:
The WiFi was out the entire time we were there. Editor's Note: The WiFi was unavailable due to a storm; full service was restored the week following. The owner reimbursed 100 Euros for the inconvenience.
Surrounding Area:
The people, the history, the food, the wine, the scenery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rufina. It was not within walking distance at all.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a bottega on Monte Giovi that is phenomenal for the food and the views. The road up, however, is very rough and rugged, but if you take it slowly, it is well worth the drive for the experience! Many of the things that others suggested bringing were provided (toilet paper, dish soap, etc.). I might suggest beach towels unless you want to pay 7 Euros per towel. Towels are not included.
Directions:
We did use a GPS but only for help getting out of Florence from the airport since there was a lot of traffic.
Check In Out:
Sonia at reception is awesome! She is very pleasant and eager to help. We read that the deposit had to be in cash but they took a credit card for our deposit.

Lynne, August

Overall:
Magical! it was wonderful beyond our preconceived imagination!
Enjoyed Most:
The views.
Enjoyed Least:
The road up/down...a bit narrow when passing another vehicle.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Scopeti was the closest town. It was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant at the top of the mountain (Monte Giovi) was delightful! Hard to get to, but worth the trip!
Directions:
We did use a GPS. I would tell people traveling from Rufina that you take the first left after leaving Scopeti.
Check In Out:
It took a while because we had so many people staying there, but the person doing it (Sonia?) was absolutely charming.

Chris, August

Overall:
Fantastic place to spend a week and explore the areas nearby.
Enjoyed Most:
Plenty of space to enjoy - we did not ever feel crowded. Pool was great.
Enjoyed Least:
Heat of August.
Surrounding Area:
Convenience to train station (i.e. to Florence and other locations).
Nearby Events or Locales:
Scopeti. Not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Go to Bottega di Montegiovi - for a true local dining experience. Do NOT count on Internet for planning, etc. We did not have it the entire time there except perhaps a couple of hours here and there. Limited us greatly since we thought we would have it and left much of our "planning" until on site.
Directions:
Sign at main road was missing.
Check In Out:
None to suggest as we were guests of the folks who rented the villa. Reception was GREAT and helped us any time we needed it.

Beth, August

Overall:
Relaxing, fun, pleasant, exciting.
Enjoyed Most:
The quiet and views
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of dependable WiFi. This is always unpredictable in any situation.
Surrounding Area:
Access to trains to anywhere, good food.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Scopeti; it was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring washcloths if you use them.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS but used our phone. The neighbors were very friendly and helpful when we stopped at the wrong house.
Check In Out:
It was long, but we were a large group.

Gretchen, August

Overall:
Easy to find with the GPS. Roomy. Nice bedrooms and firm beds.
Enjoyed Most:
It was roomy. Utilities were very moderate. Firewood was provided. Immediate attention if needed. No problems with the property.
Enjoyed Least:
It was farther then we expected from Florence.
Surrounding Area:
Very peaceful, rural, quiet.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rufina, and we needed a car.
Directions:
Used our GPS.
Check In Out:
It was easy and the owners were delightful.

Susan And Bill, November

Overall:
Amazing, beyond our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything. The villa, the views, the service, location and especially the owners and staff.
Surrounding Area:
Visiting the small towns, the food, and the views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rufina; had to drive about 10 minutes.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoy the villa and the restaurant on the property.
Directions:
Directions were good; we did use a GPS
Check In Out:
No, all was perfect.

Betty, July

Overall:
We couldn't have found a place that suited us better. This was a family vacation with 3 grandchildren ages 2-10 and 8 adults. The villa was spacious, well stocked, clean and most importantly fulfilled all of or expectations. Mario, the owner, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The nearby restaurant served excellent food. We took advantage of the opportunity to have a chef come in for one evening. Matea did a great job and was a lot of fun. Overall - we couldn't of had a better experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The property was spacious and clean. It was remote enough to give us the privacy we wanted, but not so remote as to make us feel isolated. The views were beautiful! The pool was a lifesaver after a day of exploring.
Surrounding Area:
The area gave us plenty of space. It was a true Tuscan vacation. Lots of vineyards, olive groves, mountains and beautiful scenery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Scopetti. It was not within walking distance as it was a 3 km walk away on mostly gravel roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa was well stocked, but we did bring our own spices, zip lock bags and laundry soap. I would recommend that everyone take advantage of the hilltop restaurant. It is by reservation only and owned by an older couple that speak only Italian. They were warm and friendly. The views from their outside dining space are spectacular. Mario will have to make the reservations for you. Don't miss it.
Directions:
We didn't have a GPS, but we did find it.
Check In Out:
Everything went very smoothly.

Dave, July

Overall:
EXCELLENT! It was better than the pictures. Fantastic villa, fantastic location. Loved it!
Enjoyed Most:
The layout of the villa was perfect. They have kept it rustic but with everything you need. The location was fabulous. Views are amazing.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was small and not as well-equipped as the rest of the house. We would have appreciated to have some basics provided, such as toilet paper.
Surrounding Area:
The view, the local restaurant, and the people were super friendly.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rufina and no, you could't walk; you need a car.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pay to have the local chef come in one night--worth every penny. It was truly spectacular!! I don't think you need to bring anything as there are local stores where you can purchase the basics. Just be aware that shops are closed on Sunday.
Directions:
Yes, I used GPS. We went to the local agent's office (as instructed in the voucher) and were then led to the property.

Sarah, June

Surrounding Area:
Everything!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rufina is the nearest town; a car is needed.
Directions:
A list of markets in neighboring towns would be helpful. There's a big supermarket five miles away--no need to bring supplies from home!
Check In Out:
Just fine.

Larry, June

Overall:
First class.
Enjoyed Most:
It had lots of character.
Enjoyed Least:
A bit more work space in the kitchen would have been handy.
Surrounding Area:
Absolutely beautiful scenery. Proximity to Florence is a plus.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rufina--not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant on the site was excellent - good food and friendly staff.

Irene, June

Overall:
Excellent. The villa and the grounds were beautifully maintained. The rooms were spacious and nicely appointed. Three separate living areas allow for lots of privacy no matter how large your group.
Enjoyed Most:
The five newly-refurbished bathrooms were a big hit with our American group. Also, having so many bedroom choices, each with a different layout and bed configuration, allowed everyone to have a room that suited their needs.
Enjoyed Least:
We loved everything. Because we encountered rainy weather, a dryer would have saved some time. But this is more of an observation than a complaint.
Surrounding Area:
Along with the gorgeous views, it was very convenient to have a market and train station in Rufina only a 12-minute drive away. The on-property restaurant was a real treat - excellent food and wonderful Chianti (produced on the estate!) at very good prices. Stongly recommend taking the estate wine tour/tasting they offer.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Steep roads lead down to Rufina, the nearest town, approx. 6 km. away. It is not within walking distance, and taxi service is difficult to arrange. A car is a must for a stay at this villa. For day trips a GPS is a big plus.
Tips or Restaurants:
You will need to bring ALL food supplies you intend to use - even salt and pepper, as well as large garbage bags, dish soap, laundry soap, etc.
Directions:
Be aware that steep narrow roads lead to the property (this is Tuscany after all!) but they are well-maintained and clearly marked. Plan to arrive before dark. A GPS is a big help.
Check In Out:
All our experiences with Federica, Matteo and restaurant manager Andrea were a joy. They obviously enjoy what they are doing, which is conveyed through a friendly, helpful approach to their visitors.

Stephen , October

Overall:
This property is beautiful and perfectly fitted out group of 15.
Enjoyed Most:
The layout of the rooms, the beautiful furnishings, the newly-remodeled bathrooms, the pool, the fabulous panoramic views and the excellent staff and restaurant. This place is exactly what I'd hoped it would be.
Enjoyed Least:
The refrigerators. There were two of them that did not really get cool enough to keep groceries fresh. When we arrived, they smelled, so we scrubbed them.
Surrounding Area:
The views, the winery, the close proximity to Florence, Pisa, Siena, Luca, Assisi and Valambrossa's fabulous, shady old pine forest and retreat.
Tips or Restaurants:
The only thing needed is bug spray, extra toilet paper, large garbage bags and whatever groceries you may like for breakfast. The restaurant on the property, just minutes walking distance from the door, is a great bargain and serves fabulous food.
Directions:
I did not use a GPS, but many of my guests did and found it invaluable. We got lost a few times trying to find the property, but once we were acclimated, we got around easily. More signage along the road to direct you to the property would have been useful.
Check In Out:
Couldn't have been better or easier. Matteo was extremely friendly and accommodating.

Janice, August

Overall:
Impossible to describe fully the beauty of the property and the friendly staff.
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful view.
Enjoyed Least:
Gravel road leading up to the villa.
Surrounding Area:
Peaceful and beautiul.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rufina. Too far to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant on the property is fabulous. The food is excellent and the staff is wonderful. They were gracious and very accommodating. We had six children ages 7 - 13 and they were very considerate of them.
Directions:
Those with GPS had no problem. Those of us without a GPS had a difficult time finding the property.

Rita, July

Overall:
A very good week except the 41 degree heat and no air conditioning. We had to purchase fans for our rooms, since none were provided. Editor's Note: The managers have confirmed that there will be fan supplied for all bedrooms. September 2011.
Enjoyed Most:
Due to the heat... THE POOL!!!!!!
Enjoyed Least:
NO NEGATIVES.
Surrounding Area:
The vista and the great little ristorante at the top of the mountain.

Nancy, August

Overall:
Wonderful - the property was great and the staff really made the trip.
Enjoyed Most:
It was so authentic! Restaurant had wonderful food and service. The weather was very hot so it was nice to return to the pool. The house was a steep drive up the mountain - tough drive the first time as it was unexpected, but worth it.
Enjoyed Least:
Fans would have been helpful! Weather was around 100. Try to warn people about the drive up - my sister was not comfortable with it as a less experienced standard driver!
Surrounding Area:
Rufina was a nice small town - some shops and services, train station ...
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rufina had a good restaurant, shops, bank, grocery and train station. Less than 15 minutes from the house.
Tips or Restaurants:
Restaurant on the property was excellent, as was the service. They throw a party on Fridays. Can have the buffet, or just go for the dancing. There is a cantina on the property open on Saturday and Sundays. Tons of locals for pizza, salad and wine - very inexpensive and we felt like a local. They had music on Saturday. Antica Posta in Rufina good. Ate there and grabbed pizza one night for the house. Sit outside. Further out in Rufina there is a restaurant on the side of the road called Albergo Risorante. Doesn't look great, but was a nice find. Again, ask to sit in the garden - beautiful on a small river with good food. House was well stocked and groceries were inexpensive.
Check In Out:
Very casual check in. They came to us for check out.

Tracie, July
