Customer Reviews

Overall:
We simply could not have stayed at a more magnificent villa!
Enjoyed Most:
Claudia and her family were very friendly and helpful. The property was sooo beautiful!! Simone showed us the "farm" of grapes and olives. Also had a great tour of the winery. Loved the outside guest sitting areas. LOVED IT ALL!!!
Surrounding Area:
It was so close to Siena and Florence and other quaint villages. Claudia offered to take us to the train station any time we wanted.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was the closest village. Distance wise, yes, it's walkable. In reality "no"-- road too busy with car traffic and too narrow.
Tips or Restaurants:
We went into town and got "antipasto" goodies to have with wine on one of the outdoor sitting areas. Yummm!! The Italian restaurant in Staggia was very good.
Directions:
A GPS would be very helpful.
Check In Out:
Current process was quick and thorough.

Nancy, October

Overall:
We loved the peace and quiet and location.
Enjoyed Most:
The kindness of the owner.
Enjoyed Least:
We were there during a hot spell.
Surrounding Area:
Easy to reach all the main sites of Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
No town within walking distance.
Directions:
We did use GPS.

Marilyn, July

Overall:
Rudy and Claudia were amazing! We had two wonderful dinners-one was especially for my son's birthday and Claudia even baked him a cake! They have a way that makes you feel like family. The kids were happy to play with other kids there and it was easy to relax. Overall fantastic experience. I would love to return and stay longer!
Enjoyed Most:
The friendly owners, the view, the peaceful setting
Surrounding Area:
Adults liked the peaceful surroundings the view, the sunflower fields were glorious. Kids loved the pool, the nature, and the other kids. The ping pong table was a big hit!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Poggibonsi and Staggia were the two towns on each side. Neither was within walking distance since the road was so narrow and windy.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring cool clothes and a hat in summer! The steakhouse in Staggia was delicious but don't go there earlier that 8 PM!

Sally, July

Overall:
Hassle free with great hosts. Very pleasant experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The helpful hosts. The property was comfortable and clean.
Enjoyed Least:
Bathroom a little small and we couldn't easily walk into the village.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia wasn't quite within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Plenty of villages close by for a range of restaurants. Plus train to Florence...need rental car.
Directions:
Used a GPPS; easy to find.
Check In Out:
Check in and out were speedy and easy.

Saan, June

Overall:
Excellent experience enhanced by hosts Claudia and Rudy.
Enjoyed Most:
The hosts' friendliness and willingness to help, plus the dinner they put on for all the guests in their home with their extended family.
Enjoyed Least:
The apartment is a little small for 3 couples.
Surrounding Area:
The views and the vicinity to Tuscan highlights - Florence, Siena, San Gimignano. The nearby village of Monteriggioni.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. A little too far to walk on a small but busy road - 2 kms.
Tips or Restaurants:
Good coffee and pastry shop in Staggia, and good, cheap, friendly local restaurants recommended by the hosts.
Directions:
Directions were perfect. We had a GPS but didn't need it to find the property. Need to be careful driving to property as narrow busy roads, with difficult turn into property.
Check In Out:
Check-in and check-out perfect thanks to Claudia's efficiency and friendliness. Wine cellar on property on an honor system settled at check-out.

Leonard, June

Overall:
One word: Amazing!
Enjoyed Most:
The property is, without a doubt, enchanting. I ran every morning on the vineyard trails with the company of rabbits and deer and saw the most beautiful water-colored sunrises and sunsets. The proprietors, however, are by far the best aspect. They are the most delightful people!
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding countryside is absolutely breathtaking. Also, the train station in Poggibonsi is so close and accessible that it makes day trips a breeze. (Rome, for instance... because who wants to drive there?!)
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia Senese is the small village just down the road from the property. It is within walking distance, although one should do so with extreme caution as the road is curvy and there is no shoulder.
Tips or Restaurants:
It was recommended to bring cooking spices. I brought some, but was pleasantly surprised by the amount of seasonings, oils, vinegars, etc left by previous tenants. Also, there is a handy little grocery store right there in the local village with anything that you could need.
Directions:
Just follow the directions and don't decide to go on a countryside adventure/scenic tour on your way to the villa that will result in you getting there after dark. Haha! Just like any unfamiliar territory, it is much more difficult to navigate after dark.

Amy, December

Overall:

Enjoyed Most:
Very quiet and peaceful. Very warm and hospitable owners.

Surrounding Area:

It was all done fast and efficiently

Vanda, August

Overall:
The property was exactly what we expected. It's rural, it's Europe, and there's nothing super fancy about it. The location of the property is wonderful--can't beat it if you plan to travel. The acceptance of children there is also high on our list of positives.
Enjoyed Most:
Children are welcome and meet other children from different countries. We made good friends. Claudia is amazing.
Enjoyed Least:
The fact that we were charged extra for each load of laundry. It's not reasonable to travel with children and expect to be charged for laundry.
Surrounding Area:
The location and proximity to all towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The Chianti regions--Castellina is 15 mins away and perfect for dinner.
Directions:
GPS used each day. Very easy to find. Wouldn't add a thing. Traveled over 5000 km while there.
Check In Out:
VERY easy.

Holly, July

Able to walk in the surrounding area and was close to other locations that we visited.
Surrounding Area:
Able to get outdoors and mingle with other visitors.
Nearby Events or Locales:

Directions:
Had a GPS, no problem finding the villa.
Check In Out:

Surrounding Area:
Close proximity to visit a fort, small walled town, and other cities on our list.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. Yes, it's within walking distance.

None. It was great.

Janet, October

Overall:
Excellent! The accommodations were great, exactly as shown in the photos. The location is convenient for day trips to surrounding towns.
Enjoyed Most:
The excellent accommodations and the way we were made to feel so welcome.
Enjoyed Least:
The seating in the living room was not comfortable for 4 people; we easily corrected this by moving another small couch to this area.
Surrounding Area:
The small towns located within easy driving distance.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was the nearest small town approximately one mile away; however, walking along the busy road is not recommended.
Tips or Restaurants:

Alexander, October

Overall:
We had a wonderful experience! Claudia and Rudy were wonderful hosts. The villa was very clean and spacious. The views were incredible. We had a great time getting to know the other guests in the evening when everyone was grilling outside.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners and the proximity to so many great small towns. Everything about it was wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
No AC. There were fans in every room that kept us cool enough, though.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed having so many famous towns so easy to get to.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Poggibonsi or Staggia are the closest towns. You may be able to walk to Staggia if you are willing to brave the tiny road that leads there.
Tips or Restaurants:
Go to the market the first day you get there and stock up on groceries. We found that a lot of markets close later in the day. There is a huge grocery store in Poggibonsi, but we didn't find it till the last day.
Check In Out:
No, it was very easy.

Erin , July

Overall:
We had such a good time, we only went to see one hill town while we were there! We just wanted to stay on the property and enjoy the pool, the people and the outstanding hospitality of Claudia and Rudi. I can't wait to go back for a longer stay.
Enjoyed Most:
Claudia and Rudi The setting The pool The hospitality The other guests
Enjoyed Least:
No Internet in rooms
Surrounding Area:
Gorgeous vistas. Easy to get on autostrada if need be. The peace and quiet.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. It is not possible to walk because of road with no shoulders.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just ask Claudia for her current restaurant recommendations.
Directions:
Give directions from Florence airport with distances on each road in kilometers.
Check In Out:
These are the best hosts I have ever seen. They are so generous and treat you like family. They included us in an all day/evening party for 60 of their friends with fabulous food, music and camaraderie. It was a dream location.

Linda, June

Overall:
This was the best part of my 2 month vacation in Europe. From our arrival to departure, Claudia and Rudi were the best hosts ever, so generous, friendly, knowledgeable and friendly. I can't wait to go back.
Enjoyed Most:
Claudia and Rudi; the setting; the pool; and the peace and quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
No Internet in the rooms.
Surrounding Area:
The views were wonderful. The ease of getting to the autostrada to go to other towns was terrific (although we only went to Cortona). We preferred to stay on the property to swim, read, and relax.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia is close, but the highway to get there is too dangerous for walking.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just ask Claudia for current restaurant recommendations or anything else you need.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS.
Check In Out:
Claudia is THE best host ever!

Linda, June

Overall:
Fantastic - exceeded expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
Well kept, rural, quiet and beautiful area. Great swimming pool for the warm afternoons.
Surrounding Area:
The area is olive groves and vineyards - enjoyed walking in the fields.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia - about 3/4 of a mile.
Tips or Restaurants:
Good restaurants in Colle Val D'Elsa and San Gimingano
Directions:
I made a map from Google Earth and did not use GPS.

Stan, June

Overall:
Loved it. Claudia and her husband could not have been nicer. They they did a great job making us to feel right at home!
Enjoyed Most:
The home atmosphere and being outside in the Tuscany coutryside!
Enjoyed Least:
It was a working farm and looked the part. I have stayed in an independent villa before which was more attractive. But not as friendly an atmosphere! I like both for different reasons.
Surrounding Area:
Just the stunning countryside--so Tuscany!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Yes, but too small a road. Scary to walk on.
Tips or Restaurants:
No, just come prepared to enjoy a very relaxing time. In the home of real people !
Directions:
GPS is the best.

Connie, June

Overall:
Excellent! We had a wonderful time and our hosts were extremely welcoming and sociable!
Enjoyed Most:
The view and serenity was amazing! Coming from Florence and heading off to Rome, this was the perfect place to see the more 'rural' areas. We took the train to Siena and bus to San Gimignano. We did have a car to get to the train station and back, but we were able to enjoy the day trips by taking the train.
Surrounding Area:
The small town close by was wonderful for a quick trip for morning coffee or dinner.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Probably could walk, but we drove.
Check In Out:
Everything was amazing!

Michelle, June

Overall:
Excellent location and host. Claudia and Rudi were very nice and welcomed us to their home. Facilities were everything we needed and more. View was great.
Enjoyed Most:
Claudia and Rudi were great. They made us feel welcome. Gave us great restaurant recommendations. They made dinner for the group one night; it was great food and lots of fun. Great Italian experience.
Surrounding Area:
Restaurants were good. Easy to get to smaller towns that we wanted to visit. Volterra was our favorite.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia; we didn't try to walk it because of the lack of shoulder.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed the wine they offered from their property. No need to buy other wine to bring to villa.
Directions:
Used GPS. We entered the coordinates.
Check In Out:
Very easy and quick.

David, June

Overall:
Fantastic! Wonderful accommodations and super wonderful owners. Claudia and Rudy were so delightful and warm. Great welcome Rudy even helped me with a repair on our rental car.
Enjoyed Most:
Accommodations, countryside, location. Their own wine!
Surrounding Area:
Scenery and proximity to many towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia--yes, it's within walking distance.
Directions:
Directions were spot on! And we did have a GPS--but would have found it easily without one.

Bob , June

Overall:
Outstanding. Wonderful hosts, perfect scenery. Close to grocery and many charming villages.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting and the view.
Enjoyed Least:
WiFi signal could have been stronger.
Surrounding Area:
Many opportunities for day trips through Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was within walking distance but was a long walk.
Directions:
We used GPS but the property was easy to find.
Check In Out:
It was very simple and straightforward.

Jane, June

Overall:
We would stay here again anytime.
Enjoyed Most:
The location is very good to explore Tuscany and the surrounding towns.
Enjoyed Least:
For us, the weather was not ideal, but very comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
Local restaurants recommended by Claudia were very good.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was the nearest small village and has some grocery shopping available. Walking distance was 15 to 20 minutes. The locals walk on the road during the day but there is no shoulder and daytime is the only safe time to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
The local restaurant had good pizza and pasta and risotto dishes.
Directions:
Yes, we used GPS but unfortunately it did not recognize the address. It did however recognize Staggia and the written directions got us there easily.
Check In Out:
Claudia was great and helpful. We were done in less than five minutes.

Merle, May

Overall:
It was absolutely wonderful! Beautiful property, excellent hosts, fantastic villa. It was everything we hoped for and more!
Enjoyed Most:
Comfortable, relaxing environment. Excellent location. Accommodating hosts. We were treated like family!
Enjoyed Least:
Absolutely no complaints.
Surrounding Area:
Scenic, historic, quaint towns all within easy/quick driving distance. Beautiful countryside, wonderful restaurants, friendly people.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia is about 1 mile but along a narrow road with a fair amount of traffic.
Tips or Restaurants:
A good appetite and sense of adventure. We found great restaurants in every small town we visited; most were small--6 or 8 tables, with a wonderful variety of foods.
Directions:
Absolutely need a GPS if driving in Italy! To reach Vecchio Borgo - Mensola we found it best to follow the coordinates listed in the directions provided. Took us right to the front door!
Check In Out:
Check-in and check-out was seamless.

Larry, May

Overall:
It was a wonderful 5 days in the most beautiful, peaceful area, with an easy drive to Florence or Siena. Claudia, the property manager, was very nice and very helpful, giving us good advice for our side trips and even taking it upon herself to get the Florence/Venice train schedule for us.
Enjoyed Most:
Claudia and her family made us feel very much at home.
Enjoyed Least:
We never could get any English speaking TV, although Claudia's husband tried valiantly. And, truthfully, we were not in Italy to watch TV, anyway.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty! We found a little pizzeria/convenience store/bar where we could sit on the very long porch and enjoy a glass of wine with many of the locals.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia Senese, part of Poggibonsi, was within walking distance, although we had a car and never did walk it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything was provided. I did bring an electrical plug...their outlets are for 3 prongs and I'd gotten one online (for Italy and Portugal) before we left the US. However, Claudia did have one there to loan us. I was glad I'd packed a larger bar of soap and shampoo and conditioner, although, those were available in teeny versions.
Directions:
We never made a wrong turn using the directions provided and the GPS. In using a GPS, we found Poggibonsi needs to be entered first, then Staggia Senese. It will take you to the center of Staggia and, then, your directions kicked in, making it very easy.
Check In Out:
Everything went very smoothly. Upon check in, you are introduced to the wine/olive oil room where Claudia shows you the different wines and olive oil bottled there. You're welcome to take anything while there, making a hash mark next to your name/particular wine, which you pay for at check out. Of course, (LOL) you are taken back to the wine/olive oil room upon checkout when you can buy more to take home....and, of course, you've been so nicely treated, you simply can't leave without buying more.

Peggy, April

Overall:
The property is a great landing point for travel in Tuscany. It isn't luxurious but it is everything you need for a great stay. Claudia and Rudy are excellent home owners and I think summer would be amazing.
Enjoyed Most:
Location is excellent. You aren't close enough to walk to food and groceries, so a car is a must. It is easy to drive from the area and with the GPS and the instructions using the coordinates it is easy to arrive even in the dark. We looked at lots of properties and this one is perfect for a hub and a great vacation.
Enjoyed Least:
It was cold inside and we didn't use any heat just because we didn't really know what it would cost, etc. The bathrooms and bedrooms are perfect and if you could use the outside areas then it would be heavenly. I would say May to September are great. We traveled in late March. As a result, we could not fully take advantage of the outdoor BBQ area and the pool.
Surrounding Area:
Siena and Monteriggioni were amazing. Just grocery shopping is an experience. Laundry isn't any cheaper elsewhere so the 5 Euro fee at the villa is excellent, but you need good weather to dry your clothes. The location is easy to drive into Florence or do other train trips, but the car is mandatory.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The little town of Staggia is just up the road but with Italian roads and drivers you might risk everything walking to town. It is an easy drive to get some groceries; there are bigger stores Poggibonsi or Siena. It takes about 10 - 20 minutes to drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is very comfortable. In cooler months slippers and thick socks are nice to have. I would say GPS is great and I would suggest you rent a car for sure.
Directions:
The coordinates for GPS make it a no brainer. Without that, it all is so weird with roundabouts and Italian words and your first time driving. I would say GPS coordinates for the nearest bakery, store, butcher, cafe would make it amazing.
Check In Out:
Claudia runs the show and she speaks excellent English. The Italians require a copy of your passport (which she does, too). Heating and electricity charges are paid upon departure, in Euros.

Richard, March

Overall:
We had a very pleasant stay. The property is lovely, and the owners, Claudia and Rudy, are wonderful people who made us feel very welcome. The estate is charming and very peaceful. It is also a working farm. Guests are made to feel very much at home and needs are attended to immediately, but you are not pampered. Instead, you are left to wander the beautiful fields of grapes and olives, relax by the pool, or nap in the shade of a tree. Advice is readily available on everything from restaurants to grocery stores, and from doctors to pharmacies.
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful and well-maintained without being fussy. Gorgeous view, a working Tuscan farm.
Enjoyed Least:
We had no issues with the property.
Surrounding Area:
Access to various Tuscan attractions, from a charming, relaxing rural home base.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you enjoy exceptional cuisine, Arnolfo's in the historic village of Colle Val d'Elsa is only 10 minutes by car. Well worth it!
Directions:
We did not use GPS, and had no problem finding the property.

Thomas, October

Overall:
The place was great and Claudia and her family were fine hosts--even hosting a starlight dinner with many dishes and much wine. Free and friendly! Simone, the winemaker, took time on a busy day to give me a good rundown on winemaking in Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a little rustic but very comfortable, and it was so friendly that it was a pleasure to come home in the evenings and hard to leave at the end.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful scenery, friendly people everywhere. Lots of little villages and a medium-sized town (Poggibonsi) about 5 km away. Local wines were plentiful, good, and cheap.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia Senese is only 1.5 km away, but Montalpruno is perched atop a hill with a very steep approach. Great for viewing but climbing the hill is a bear.
Tips or Restaurants:
There's a great little coffee shop in the center of Staggia. Very friendly and inexpensive. It was our regular starting point in the mornings.
Directions:
We had a GPS, but it would have been pretty easy to find even without it.

Richard, October

Overall:
Our stay could not have been more idyllic. The setting is magnificent: rolling Tuscan hills surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Grapes were being harvested while we were there so we were able to see the beginning of their excellent wine-making process. Bottled wine is readily available for purchase and we gave the supply a fair taste.
Enjoyed Most:
This is a refurbished farm house, large, polished, nothing has been forgotten for comfort. Clauda and Rudi (and their two year old son, Gabriel), the owners and managers, were excellent hosts, accommodating, informative and always at hand. My step-daughter wanted to hire a chef to prepare a birthday dinner celebration for me. Claudia offered to do the dinner for us. And what a celebration. She invited other guests (one of which was also celebrating a birthday on the same day), the six of us and her family, over 20 people. There was delicious food, much wine and lots of conversation. This was one of those rare occasions that will always be a cherished memory.
Enjoyed Least:
Absolutely nothing. It was all very special.
Surrounding Area:
It was centrally enough located that it allowed us to visit nearby hill towns. We loved the beauty of the landscape and the friendliness of the people in the small towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia and Poggibonsi both have grocery stores. While Staggia was within walking distance, I would not recommend it as the roads do not have berms. You would have to walk on the road, which is narrow.
Tips or Restaurants:
A car is a necessity. While you could manage without a GPS, it sure makes life simpler. There are mosquitos and repellent makes sitting out at dusk with your wine and cheese a much more pleasurable experience.

Bill, September

Overall:
All 6 of us had a fantastic holiday. We absolutely loved the villa and especially our hosts, Claudia and Rudy.
Enjoyed Most:
The entire property was gorgeous. We loved that it was a working farm and we had the opportunity to see Rudy and the others harvesting the grapes. The grounds were very clean and beautiful; private areas were available for all of the residents. It was great to have Montalpruno wine right on the property. Did not have to drive into town when we ran out.
Surrounding Area:
We travelled to many of the areas within Tuscany including Siena (about 20 minutes away) and Volterra about 25-30 minutes, but through gorgeous winding hills). Monteriggioni was nearby and San Gimignano, too. All were fantastic.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was the nearest small town. Although you could have walked there, we did not. We drove into the town for dinner or lunch on a couple of occasions. We also shopped for groceries at the Coop. The best part of the town was the castle. On our trip we saw a lot of very old architecture, but with this castle, each level of the tower had its own art installation.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa was well-appointed, with nothing lacking. The six of us enjoyed the communal kitchen area where we would drink wine, eat snacks, laugh, cook, eat, and plan the next day. We did go out to dinner a couple of times and had a "typical Tuscan dinner" at the villa hosted by Claudia and Rudy for Claudia's birthday. They are wonderful folks, with fantastic wine on location. We tried all of the different types of wine (some more than once)!

Joni, September

Overall:
We had a great time. Great hosts and beautiful property. VERY gracious.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and affordable wine and tastings.
Enjoyed Least:
The coffee pot.
Surrounding Area:
Very beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia is within walking distance but I recommend driving.

Julie , September

Overall:
Our room was delightful. Cleanliness a 10+! The renovated bathrooms were spacious and well-designed. The kitchen had a new fridge, gas stove and all the kitchen utensils, pots, dishes, etc. that we needed.
Enjoyed Most:
Claudia and Rudy! They are the world's greatest hosts. Made us feel so welcome and were very helpful with suggestions for restaurants and day trips. The views of the vineyards, countryside and neighbouring towns were breathtaking. We were fortunate to be there for a spectacular firework display the night after we arrived. We saw everything from our rooms!
Surrounding Area:
The towns were so picturesque and charming. I loved driving along the country roads and taking in all the scenery. It was magnificent.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was 1 km away--easily within walking distance, but not safe as there is no shoulder on the road for walking. Poggibonsi was only about 6km away--great grocery(COOP) there.
Tips or Restaurants:
We didn't need anything other than the normal travel gear for a warm destination. Everything is provided there or you can take a quick jaunt to the local well supplied COOP, 1km away for anything you may need. Ask Claudia about restaurants in the area. In San Gimignano, there was an excellent restaurant called The Rooster (English name).

Lorraine, June

Overall:
My son and daughter in law accompanied us on this trip to Italy. 3 days in Rome, then the villa in Tuscany, and finally Napoli and the islands! We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Vecchio Borgo. The hosts, Claudia and Rudy, were amazing and hospitable. They hosted an Italian dinner in their own kitchen for all the guests on our last night. Exceptional stay!
Enjoyed Most:
Proxity to all the places we wanted to take day trips to. Also, the little towns of Staggia and Pongibonsi were easily accesible for groceries, etc. It was also very charming!
Enjoyed Least:
The roosters were very loud in the morning with our windows open. Other than that...great.
Surrounding Area:
Scenery was excellent everywhere we looked! Walks were great around the area. Also, the pool area was great. We were in Siena and Florence on two different days in a matter of an hour or less.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. We walked to town once. Visited the Staggia castle and had lunch.
Tips or Restaurants:
Two good restaurants in Staggia. We enjoyed dinner in twice and breakfast everyday! Great accomodations.
Directions:
Need a GPS, which was provided with our Hertz car. The coordinates were supplied with our rental voucher. Worked great.
Check In Out:
Can't say enough nice things about Claudia!!

Michele, June

Overall:
We absolutely loved our time at the villa. Claudia and her family are so friendly and accommodating. The villa was clean, well furnished, and comfortable. We spent our time swimming, walking through the vineyards, enjoying the villa's wine, and visiting Florence, Montalcino, Pisa, Volterra, Staggia, and Siena.
Enjoyed Most:
We really enjoyed dinner at the villa. Claudia and her family cooked a fantastic meal. We ate for 3 hours. Everything was homemade and wonderful! Rudi, Claudia's husband, took my son on moped and tractor rides; he's still talking about it! It was a wonderful experience for my family.
Surrounding Area:
The location was great. The weather is so nice--warm during the day and cool at night. The town of Staggia is interesting with it's medieval castle. Grocery stores, cafes and restaurants are nearby. It was also very easy to access the highway, which made visiting other cities really easy.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Staggia. It is within walking distance, but the road is busy.
Tips or Restaurants:
I have no suggestions on what to bring, but would suggest that you leave behind all your worries and stress. This place is too beautiful to be burdened with such things.
Directions:
We used a TomTom GPS to Staggia and then followed the directions given to us by RentVillas. No problems with the directions.
Check In Out:
Very easy check in/check out process.

Sandy, May

Overall:
It was wonderful! The owners are delightful and made us feel so welcome and comfortable. The place was beautiful.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners....they were fantastic. Besides being very charming and welcoming, they were helpful, knowledgeable and willing to do anything to help make our stay more enjoyable. And the property was comfortable, quiet, and relaxing.
Enjoyed Least:
The town that the villa was located in didn't hold much attraction.
Surrounding Area:
The villa sits in the middle of a working farm, surrounded by olive groves and rows of grape vines. It is idylic, and the views from all the windows are spectacular.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed the pizza parlor with the frog theme (can't remember the name, but the owners of the villa suggested it). Good food and pizza at very reasonable prices.
Directions:
Used GPS and had no problem finding it. And the property is very well marked.
Check In Out:
The owner was there to greet us and saw us off. The process was easy.

Deborah, May

Overall:
The experience was simply fabulous. It was wonderful to see an actual working farm. Claudia and Rudi and their family were the greatest. They had simply thought of everything, both indoors and out, for the comfort and interest of the guests.
Enjoyed Most:
Loved everything. The Tuscan countryside was so beautiful. The villa was convenient to everything we wanted to see and do. (see other guests' comments about the necessity of a car and a GPS.) Claudia and her family included us in their family's celebration of the feast day of the patron saint of Poggibonsi by having a bonfire and sausage cookout. Loved being able to stroll about the beautiful farm. It was the perfect place to unwind after a hard day of touring/sightseeing. We could help ourselves to the wines and olive oil oil produced by the farm. We kept a tally on a clipboard and settled up at checkout. We typically ate lunch out while sightseeing, and then had cheese and salami and bread and olives for dinner. We didn't try to cook a big meal, since it was vacation after all, but the villa was well equipped, and the covered outdoor barbecue with stone table looked fabulous.
Enjoyed Least:
The hot water was GONE after about a 3 minute shower. While it recovered pretty fast, we had to really plan showers for all of us (we were traveling with another couple)and so that was an inconvenience.
Surrounding Area:
We did day trips to Florence,(park in Poggibonsi and take the train) Siena,(park in the soccer stadium as long as there is not a game) San Gimignano,(parking is tough; get there early in the day or you will have a hike) Volterra, Greve in Chianti and the Verrazzano Winery--very touristy but great fun. We spent a couple of "down" half days just hanging out. We also toured the castle in Staggia, which is run by an artistic foundation. Donatella, the curator gave us a great tour.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town is Staggia, less than 2 km away. However, the road is winding and narrow, with no shoulders, so it is too dangerous to walk. The cars really whiz by. There is a Coop market there that was just fine and a much larger one in Poggibonsi.
Tips or Restaurants:
Depends on how fancy you want to get with cooking. It wouldn't hurt to bring a few coffee filters. We were lucky and found that the previous renter had left a package, as well as salt/pepper and a box of sugar for coffee. The laundry costs 5 Euroa per load and takes forever, so you might think about trying to find a laundromat. There is no dryer, only drying racks.
Directions:
We used the GPS coordinates and the written instructions. Both were excellent.
Check In Out:
Claudia made it all very easy.

Melanie, April

Overall:
WONDERFUL! This property is amazing and the family (Claudia and Rudy) are incredibly helpful and truly help to build a perfect experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the family.
Enjoyed Least:
The hot water heater was tricky.
Surrounding Area:
Unbelievable access to an array of vineyards and cities, WONDERFUL!
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a small bar below the castle in Montereggioni, it has FANTASTIC food! They do not speak a lot of English but are patient with people learning Italian. We had a GREAT time there.
Directions:
We used Google's Mapquest and it worked just fine if you follow names of towns and streets instead of mile markers.
Check In Out:
Claudia is professional but warm and VERY helpful and welcoming!

Adrian, April

Overall:
We loved it so much we hope to go back someday.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners were warm and friendly. The location was ideal.
Enjoyed Least:
We would have liked to use the fireplace, but we understand the liability involved.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful views and access to hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia is the nearest town, but it is not safe to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything is there for you!
Directions:
We used a GPS.

Marie, November

Overall:
Excellent. Very nice setting, clean rooms, nice/helpful owner/host family, family-produced wine and olive oil is available on-site. There are screens on windows so it is secure and quiet.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting, especially as it is a working farm, vineyard, winery, olive trees, etc.
Enjoyed Least:
Internet wireless was only available in the office and the adjacent outside patio area.
Surrounding Area:
Close to many exciting day trip opportunities. Close to groceries and restaurants, too.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. Within walking distance, but narrow road did not allow safe walking to town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Book plenty of days to see as much as possible in the surrounding towns, sites, etc., including Siena and Chianti towns and wineries. There are also many day-trip opportunities south and east of Siena. Claudia can recommend some excellent restaurants, including an excellent one where she had her wedding reception!
Directions:
Directions were just fine. We used Google Maps "Street View" prior to the trip, which offers "driving" the route to get a sense of direction and what to expect. We did also use our GPS in our rental car for day trips, to Florence, etc.

Ken, October

Overall:
Absolutely wonderful!
Enjoyed Most:
Location and scenery.
Enjoyed Least:
Twin beds pushed together.
Surrounding Area:
Easy day trips to many wonderful Tuscan towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. In my younger days I would have walked, but 1 and 1/2 miles to the center of town is too much now.
Tips or Restaurants:
Need nothing, so save luggage room for buying items to take home. Can't remember the name of the restaurant, but it's in the Coop supermarket grocery plaza right next to the local post office. Great food on outdoor patio, excellent service, and good wine list for such a small town restaurant.

Renee Travel Agent, October

Overall:
It was wonderful!! It was everything we were hoping it would be.
Enjoyed Most:
The magnificent views from every window. The lovely outdoor seating areas, which were much nicer than the posted pictures. The sunsets, the vineyard, the washing machine and iron!
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing at all. I wish we had planned more time in our schedule to just sit by the pool one day. We were out every day, but loved coming home to our villa in the late afternoon to catch the beautiful sunsets over the vineyard.
Surrounding Area:
We loved driving on the Chianti Road SS222. It was just beautiful and took us to many beautiful towns like Greve, Montefioralle, Radda and wineries. We also did day trips to Siena, Florence, Monterrigioni, San Gimignano, and Colle di Val D'Elsa
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was the nearest small town; it was probably within walking distance, but we didn't try.
Tips or Restaurants:
We had 3 different guide books with us, but the little white book called, "The Insider's guide to Living like a Local" which we received from Rentvillas.com, had a lot of useful information in it. I would suggest reading that book. Bring a hair dryer for the villa, as it was the only thing that was missing. There was a fan in each room which was great, and screens on all the windows. We liked the local restaurant, "Bottega dell Abate" as you head toward Castellina but they do not take credit cards.
Directions:
We should have studied the map that Rentvillas sent us before we left. We were driving up from Rome and didn't realize that the printed directions from Rentvillas was actually bringing us north of the villa, so we got off the A1 and followed the GPS. We were all delighted when the GPS brought us to Montalpruno, and we were also glad that we arrived in the daylight.
Check In Out:
The family that owns the property was very accommodating, Claudia could not have been nicer or more helpful.

Barbara, September

Overall:
What a wonderful place. Everything was perfect. The bathrooms are very new and so is the kitchen. The bedrooms were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Claudia is wonderful and such a lovely person. I can't wait to go back.
Enjoyed Most:
The surroundings, the peace and quiet, the close proximity to so many great places like Florence, Siena, Voltera, Castellina, etc....
Surrounding Area:
Everything is very close and just a short drive away. We went on a winery tour, ate at great restaurants, wandered big towns and small villages, went to local markets, enjoyed close proximity to good grocery stores... All was wonderful.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring your relaxed mood and be ready to enjoy. What a great place. I can't wait to return. You really need to bring nothing extra. It is a very well equipped wonderful spot
Directions:
The GPS coordinates are perfect
Check In Out:
Nothing, it was smooth, pleasant, easy. I did enjoy the wine tasting available on a honour system--just stop by and pick up a bottle.

Jennifer, September

Overall:
Our family enjoyed a very pleasant, relaxing time. It was everything we anticipated.
Enjoyed Most:
We appreciated the genuine Tuscan scenery and the children were enamoured with the pool. The host family was warm and welcoming.
Enjoyed Least:
We were there in a heat wave!
Surrounding Area:
We took day trips to hill towns nearby and toured the castle in Staggia.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was closest and was within walking distance, but the road was not the safest for walking as it is narrow and curving.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS.

NIck, July

Overall:
Our experience at Vecchio Borgo was, in a word, wonderful!! The accommodations, the property, and the pool were all beautifully maintained. It was inviting, comfortable, and professionally run.
Enjoyed Most:
It's difficult to pinpoint just one thing that i liked 'most' about the property. So many aspects were superior--I loved having our own veranda where we could sit outside in the cool evening air with our dinner and conversation. It truly feels as if you are the only visitors staying there.
Enjoyed Least:
I honestly didn't have one.
Surrounding Area:
loved feeling as if I were in the "heart" of Tuscany. The views were lovely and it was so convenient for us to get to the Coop for food shopping. The location--perfect for getting to the places we wanted to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I wouldn't recommend walking because there is no "shoulder" on the side of the road and there are many sharp bends in the road. Could be hazardous.
Directions:
We did have a GPS and did have the coordinates. Having a GPS makes life so much easier as you are traveling from one town to the next in Tuscany.

Linda, June

Overall:
Fantastic! From the moment we drove up the driveway we knew we were in a very special place.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were spectacular from all of the terraces. It was 85 degrees the week we were there, so the pool was an added bonus for us. It is hard to pick one thing, as it was so lovely and peaceful. Oh, we did enjoy having a wine cellar, full of lovely Chianti's from the villa vineyards. And, the owners were delightful, sharing their stories of when they purchased the villa and the love and hardwork that went into making it the beautiful place it is today. They were not at all intrusive, but we loved our chats with Claudia, seeing the 1960's Vespa that Rudy rebuilt, and hearing the laughter of their 10 month old son, Gabriel.
Enjoyed Least:
Having to leave.
Surrounding Area:
Exploring the countryside and having lunch in a beautiful restauraunt that we stumbled upon in the middle of nowhere. We had a car, which made it very easy to get around as Florence was only an hour away and Siena about 20 minutes or so.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia and yes, it was within walking distance, made shorter by cutting through the vineyard. Another town that was about 15 minutes by car, was Pogginbosi, and it had a wonderful piazza and some charming shops, which we didn't get to, as it was closing time.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything we needed was there, including towels for the pool. I didn't need one, but I don't recall seeing a hair dryer. The bathrooms were lovely, plenty of closet space in the bedrooms, too. One night we just sat on the terrace and drank wine and made an antipasti from the treats we found during the day on one of our outings.
Directions:
It was a little confusing as we were coming from San Marino and didn't come in to Staggia by the stop sign, but, we found our way. Better to arrive during the daylight hours. No, we didn't have a GPS.
Check In Out:
Couldn't have been easier--very accommodating and plenty of parking, too, as we had two cars,.

Deb , May

Overall:
Very happy and peaceful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
Beauty of the landscape all around, peace, and kindness of the owners.
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of opening to the outdoors from the living room.
Surrounding Area:
Beauty of the nature.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You could walk to Staggia, but the road is not the safest for walking. We enjoyed more walking in the countryside.
Directions:
We used a GPS .

Jocelyne, May

Overall:
When I die and go to heaven, I hope it looks like this property. The location was great, just off of the Superstrada between Florence and Siena. It was close to San Gimignano, Chianti region, Volterra and many cute little towns.
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful setting, the very comfortable accommodations, the great location and the cute bunnies. The bedrooms were roomy and comfortable. The bathrooms were newly remodeled and there was one associated with each bedroom. The owners were super friendly and very helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
Charge for the use of the washer.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful vineyards and olive orchards. The peaceful setting that was still close enough to town and the main road to be convenient.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia Senese was approximately 1-2 Km on the side of a busy road.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a cute bakery in town and a Coop market that is very useful. They are walking distance, but it takes about 20 minutes to walk there. The wines made by the estate were great and I wish we had brought some home.
Directions:
we used a GPS.

Klare, April

Overall:
It was a great experience. The owners were very accommodating, helpful and friendly. The property was kept very clean and welcoming for us. We would definitely recommend this property and visit again.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved that it was on a hill overlooking the Tuscan hillsides. The property was very quiet and peaceful. The children loved the pool, ping pong and tennis, as well as geese and chickens. It was also very centrally located to Florence, Siena, Volterra and other great Tuscan hill towns.
Enjoyed Least:
No air conditioning although it had fans - it wasn't the same on very hot nights It would have also been nice to have a few more amenities in the kitchen. We also were not aware the the hot water tank shut off during the night - took a while to figure that we needed to turn it on. A briefing on how things worked would have been helpful.
Surrounding Area:
We loved how close it was to all the towns. We could drive to a fair number of them within 30 min or less.
Tips or Restaurants:
The best place for groceries is the Coop in Poggibonsi . We enjoyed the local Tratorria in Staggia very quaint and tasty.
Directions:
We used a GPS and it brought us to the right place.

Phil, July

Overall:
Enchanting. The views were breathtaking. The villa was authentic and comfortable. The owners were hospitable and gracious.
Enjoyed Most:
The overall feel and the views that did not disappoint from any window or position on the property. The kids really enjoyed the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Lots and lots of bees. Which is to be expected on a working farm in the summer. The villa owners provided a spray to kill them. Also, the mosquitoes were out in full force. Bring bug spray. Additionally, it was extremely hot. The villa is not air conditioned but does provide fans which were very helpful.
Surrounding Area:
Exploring the many nearby towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Staggia. Due to the steep walk and main road it is probably not a good idea to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
We were able to get the few things needed for meal preparation in Staggia. The villa owners really provided most. The food in Staggia was really good although I do not remember the name of the restaurants.
Directions:
We used a GPS and probably would not have done so well without it. I highly recommend one.
Check In Out:
The owners and their family were very kind and pleasant. No problems.

LeeAnn, July

Overall:
The Villa was exactly what we wanted---an authentic Tuscany farm but comfortable, peaceful, friendly, private and very, very lovely.
Enjoyed Most:
The several outside seating areas where you could drink wine, bring out your dinner or just sit and enjoy the day.
Enjoyed Least:
The downstairs living room to our unit was nicely appointed but not very usable. We really didn't mind and just used it as a foyer but it had lots of potential to be made quite comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
The little towns. Every day we were off to a different place Monteriggioni, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Pienza, Cortona and the Chianti Loop. We loved that we had such a great view from the patio of one of our favorites, Castellina in Chianti.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia which had a perfectly adequate Coop grocery. You would not want to walk there but it is possible.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't worry about the mosquitoes. There are wonderful screens on the windows which you don't even notice. There's wifi in the patio area so get Skype, turn off your 3G and send your friends photos of this fabulous place.
Directions:
Our GPS did not work too well on the Italian roads but we had no trouble finding the Villa. After missing the drive once we were fine.
Check In Out:
We can't say enough good things about the owners. Claudia was so sweet and helpful, making reservations and phone calls for us. She was always around, working either in the office or tending the flowers, sweeping or cleaning. Her apartment is right across from the office and she did not ever mind if we had to knock to ask a question.

Marilyn, June

Overall:
We had a great stay! There were 7 women, and the bedrooms were great. The double beds were 2 twins put together so were quite large, we never ran low on hot water for showers. Claudia was wonderful and did everything she could to make us feel welcome.
Enjoyed Most:
One thing? There were many things and would be hard to pick just one! The scenery, location, dishwasher, WiFi, our rooms, their wines and olive oil, the little rabbits. It was harvest time and the grapes were wonderful!
Enjoyed Least:
I guess the stairs up to the main living quarters, not a big problem but there were several.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful vineyards and olive groves. Being close to the train station in Poggibonsi and to the main route between Siena and Florence. We enjoyed Greve and the day trip to Lucca and Pisa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was within a mile. We didn't walk to it but could have if we had wanted to.
Tips or Restaurants:
Wash cloths would be good. The kitchen was well supplied and groceries were nearby in Staggia. If you are driving, a GPS was helpful. We had 2 small cars, since parking is a problem all over Tuscany. We also brought walkie talkies which were wonderful to have. If you haven't driven a stick shift for a while, you might want to practice a bit before you come.
Directions:
The directions were coming from Rome on A-1. We drove up the coast and came in from the west. We did have a GPS and with the directions, we had no problems locating the property.

Sandy , October

Overall:
Excellent -- the property is lovely and all of the family was so nice to all of us.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, quiet, and the property itself.
Enjoyed Least:
We had a lot of stairs - but if was fine. Washing Machine was there but took a very long time.
Surrounding Area:
Easy access to town. Easy access to other areas and the surrounding area was beautiful.
Check In Out:
Very quick and easy - friendly -- would have been nice to have help with bags up the stairs.

Anthony, October

Overall:
We had such a great time in Tuscany. The villa was fantastic with excellent views and the most hospitable and friendly owners, Claudia and her family. Definitely recommended!
Enjoyed Most:
Excellent location with easy reach to nearby towns like Siena and San Gimignano. Also only a short 5 minute drive to nearest COOP grocery store in Staggia. The property was in good and clean condition with all the necessities provided.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing at all!

Rose, September

Overall:
Our overall experience was fantastic. The owners couldn't have been more hospitable!! One was always cheerful, helpful and even lead my daughter and son-in-law to a doctor's office. Then drove to a pharmacy and had the prescription for an infected ear filled. On my 80th birthday she baked me a cake, and her father gave me a beautiful bouquet that I carried all the way back to Tucson.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting couldn't have been more perfect. The rolling hills with grape vines, olive orchards, wheat fields were beautiful any time of the day. Early morning walks thru the vineyards were as great as the evening sunsets. The pool was in constant use by my family. In fact one of my daughters said as she floated on the raft, "I don't think I have ever been closer to heaven".
Enjoyed Least:
I can't think of a thing. Had we had the 10 family members along that I had planned, it would have been very crowded. But, for the five of us, it worked beautifully. We did lots of cooking and could have used a larger refrigerator, but that would not have been the local way. We also thought the hour it took to brew coffee was a little strange, but since I rise early I could turn the pot on, go for my walk and it would be brewed when I returned.
Surrounding Area:
I secured five driving trips thru "Italia Roadrunners" that were wonderful. We always found the town he directed us to. We probably would have gotten lost otherwise due to all the winding roads. We were go happy to have the suggestions.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was the closet town. One of my daughters walked there a couple time. Part of the walk had to along a main road which I thought was too dangerous. She obviously didn't, and loved the experience.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner suggested we go to Poggibonsi to grocery shop at the local Coop. It was fantastic. I have never seen such a variety of vegetables, baked goods, cheeses, fresh pastas, etc. My son-in-law loves to cook so he was in 7th heaven. So were we. We went to Monteriggioni for my birthday dinner at Il Piccolo. Super.

Barbara , July

Overall:
Overall an excellent experience - the property was lovely and management was helpful and friendly.
Enjoyed Most:
Lovely countryside, exceptional views, peace and quiet. Our apartment was very well-equipped, which we appreciated as we cooked several times. The weather did not allow us to use many of the outdoor facilities during our stay, but they were exceptional - pool, tennis courts, BBQ area, outdoor dining areas, walking paths around the farm, etc. We especially enjoyed petting the resident bunnies, getting a wine tasting and tour, and Claudia's cake!
Enjoyed Least:
Our stay was really great, so these are minor gripes. We had an issue with a sewer gas smell in one bathroom our first night that required some creative working-around to ameliorate. Also, dishwasher and washing-machine were very slow by our standards. And, the living room is disconnected from the rest of the house and kind of cold and musty and for a group of five, it would have been nice to have had more comfortable seating in the dining room area for hanging out together.
Surrounding Area:
House is in a great location - close to so many "must-see" towns. Siena is only 20 minutes down the autostrada, and we also really enjoyed Montagnana and San Gimignano, which are also very close.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia Senese is close - my husband and I walked there twice - took about 10 minutes, but the walk there was rather harrowing with no shoulder on the very curvy road. Poggibonsi, a much larger although charmless town is very close by car. It's the better choice for groceries, practical shopping, and has a train station. We did enjoy the market in Poggibonsi, which was held on Tuesdays.
Tips or Restaurants:
The apartment was really well-equipped - we had brought things like dish washing liquid, laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc., which were not needed. The one thing I couldn't find was a large pasta colander or strainer, but we managed!
Check In Out:
We didn't realize that laundry was 4 euros a load and so were a little surprised at checkout.

Rachel, May

Overall:
I would love to return again!!
Enjoyed Most:
The Internet pictures do not do it justice! It is beautiful and the location was perfect for touring around Tuscany! The property manager was wonderful and very helpful and we liked her very much.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing that we didn't like about the property. Our apartment was really meant to house 6 and one, maybe two children.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany is beautiful! I loved the evening church bells and the cool breezes. The weather was perfect and the wine was delicious!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia Senese was within walking distance.

Jennifer, October

Overall:
The owners were wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting was beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
The lack of laundry service. They only provided one towel per person per week.
Surrounding Area:
Natural beauty
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia Senese can't be walked as there are no shoulders on road.

Carol, September

Overall:
We were pleased to find this property, and cannot recommend it enough! Look forward to going back!
Enjoyed Most:
Peace and quiet. Pool! Close to Siena and Poggibonsi. Wine. Oil!! Accommodations were too big for us! Owners very friendly and available whenever needed!
Enjoyed Least:
No big spoon in kitchen to stir pasta sauce!
Surrounding Area:
Very easy back roads to Siena, Poggibonsi, San Gimignano, Volterra... Beautiful views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia about 1.5 km away but not really walkable as no sidewalk along road.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pack your suitcases at home, then leave half. You can wash your clothes and dry them overnight, or wear only bathing suit if spending the day at the pool. And you can save some room for purchases. Make sure you have enough to eat, as most likely you will arrive on Saturday, and stores closed 19:30 Saturday night and all day Sunday. BUT, we found a big grocery store open on Sunday in Poggibonsi 5 km away. You can always find restaurants, but Sunday morning breakfast would otherwise only be coffee.
Directions:
The entrance is off a bend curve in the road, so drive slowly, otherwise you will go past it.

Allen, August

Enjoyed Most:
The villa was in the countryside with olive trees and a vineyard. It was great to be on a working farm.
Enjoyed Least:
No AC with hot summer nights.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany is beautiful. The Chianti vineyards were easily accessible as was Florence and Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was not with in walking distance, but it did have an excellent grocery.

Patricia, July

Overall:
What a great spot...neat, clean, comfortable, friendly owners, and knock out views. They also had a computer that guests could use or in our case a wireless environment for our own computer. We could place it on our bedroom window ledge overlooking the vineyards....sending an e-mail or going online doesn't get any better than this.
Enjoyed Most:
The property surrounding the villa was amazingly beautiful! Early in the morning or as the sun was setting we strolled through gorgeous vineyards, fields of nodding sunflowers, or olive groves. The friendly and gracious owners gave us a tour and wine tasting of their very own small winery. We enjoyed the lovely swimming pool and many evenings were spent sipping wine in various patio garden areas.
Enjoyed Least:
I cant think of a single thing I would change!
Surrounding Area:
We could drive to so many beautiful Tuscan hill towns in any direction. The villa was also located within 10 minutes of a major autostrada.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Stagia was within a 15 minute walk or a three minute drive. it had a small but nice COOP.
Tips or Restaurants:
In July it can be quite warm and it might be nice to bring a small battery-operated fan for your bedroom.
Check In Out:
Both were perfect. There were no additional unexpected charges.

Marlene, July

Overall:
We loved it so much. We would return in a heartbeat. It was the perfect spot for travelling with kids, and in general. The family that runs the property are just the best, warm, helpful, friendly! We highly recommend it!
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds and the views are truly beautiful, casual and very welcoming. The wine and olive oil room was well used by our crew. Anyone who stays MUST have a few meals on site. Just amazing, fresh, delicious!!! It is also a great option for kids. Ours loved it. It is so safe and we felt completely comfortable with the kids.
Enjoyed Least:
We loved it! The villa itself was not fancy, but perfectly fine. The experience as a whole was just perfect.
Surrounding Area:
Great proximity to beautiful hill towns, we also went to Florence for a day. We travelled around a lot.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia is closest. I suppose you could walk it, but we didn't with the kids. The villa is set very high on a hill, and it would have been too much of a trek for kids.
Tips or Restaurants:
We were very well provided for. We did a shop at the Coop grocery store and bought food, coffee, storage bags, toilet paper, etc.

Heather, June

Overall:
My family and I loved the property immediately! The owners were very warm. We felt welcomed the minute we arrived. Franco gave us some good tips on parking. And Claudia made us a wonderful breakfast cake. Such a wonderful family. Our unit had a laundry machine which was great!
Enjoyed Most:
The peace and beauty of the farm are indescribable. We enjoyed everything. We loved the wine. We loved playing tennis every day. We loved swimming. We loved the easy access to other cities. It was fantastic! Tuscany and this villa were amazing!
Enjoyed Least:
The ability to walk to Staggia with my family.
Surrounding Area:
Everything.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. Yes but slightly dangerous walking with kids.
Tips or Restaurants:
Maybe a scented candle. Some of the best advice we got was to pre-order our museum tickets for Florence. We used tickitaly.it. It worked beautifully, we did not have to wait in any line. It was very much worth the few extra dollars. We ate at 2 good restaurants in Staggia. I would highly recommend hiring a chef to cook a homemade dinner. We used tastyitaly.com. They were fabulous!

Stephanie, June

Overall:
I would highly recommend it as long as you have a car. The driving in Italy is a bit challenging at times, but worth while.
Enjoyed Most:
The peace and quiet, view, and location. Claudia, the manager, was wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
The pool was a bit cold
Surrounding Area:
We saw a few wineries and enjoyed being less of a tourist more a part of the culture.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is only one good restaurant in Staggia. The grocery store in the town a few minutes further away is better. Go to the mountain town called Volterra, about 45 minutes away, it's beautiful.

Dianne, June

Overall:
It was very lovely. We would highly recommend it to our friends. A much better value than a hotel!

The owners were so nice and helpful! They let us use the fresh herbs from the garden, offered us garden grown veggies, made dinner reservations for us. They were great. The surrounding area was gorgeous. Just beautiful views. The pool was nice and very clean.
Enjoyed Least:
Not much. Our coffee maker had a problem. Hanging laundry out to dry is fine when the weather is nice, but kind of a pain if it's raining.
Surrounding Area:
Really liked the little towns like Staggia and the hill towns nearby.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. Couldn't walk there because there wasn't a place to walk along the roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
We really liked the restaurant that Claudia recommended. You don't need travel laundry supplies like a sink stopper. See if they can start shipping their wine and olive oil. We really wanted to take some home, but we couldn't take any liquids on the plane.

Overall:
We will return.
Enjoyed Most:
Surroundings, hosts, spacious rooms, nice clean pool, well maintained and clean.
Enjoyed Least:
I had no serious problems at all. Pool was a little too cold.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful countryside, proximity of attractions, yet rural tranquility
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia 1km, Poggibonsi 4-5km.
Check In Out:
We arrived after 10:00pm, but our hosts were waiting for us.

Zoltan, August

Overall:
I never wanted to come home! We felt totally at home at that place. The owners are fabulous - and we made lifelong friends with some of the other guests. We would definitely go back in a second!
Enjoyed Most:
Being located on an active vineyard was great. We loved it because of the privacy, quaintness, cleanliness, spaciousness. The kids could pick peaches off of the trees, we could buy wine from the owners and even pick lettuce from the garden. I never wanted to leave the place, it was so great.

Jill, August

Enjoyed Most:
Peace and tranquility - the hilly countryside, olive groves, vineyards. Was a lovely and great place for the kids to run free. They loved the pool and picking fresh fruit was a particularly sweet experience. Open windows could be mistaken for a painting. The owners were welcoming and accommodating.
Enjoyed Least:
Stairs to our apartment.
Surrounding Area:
Siena, Florence, and especially the small medieval hill towns and their great local wines. A late evening stroll and dinner in San Gimignano was a pleasure.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Torre in Castellina in Chianti. Try the Roccatu, a super Tuscan, in the Rocca en Mieci vineyard. Cook simple meals using local produce and foods, eat under the Tuscan sun and enjoy the local wines. Take advantage of the trains buses in Poggibonsi for day trips. Road signage can be confusing and misleading. Enjoy the farm during the heat of the day and visit nearby towns in the evening.

Joe, August

Overall:
The Tuscany apartment rental was perfect. The owners there are wonderfully helpful, and made our stay something to remember. We hope to be able to go back there soon.

Marianne, July

Overall:
We had a great experience there and my kids were loathe to leave. They enjoyed playing ping pong and soccer with Franco, the father, and Simone, one of the cousins that works at the farm. Location was exceptional for day trips in Tuscany region. Property was very clean and well cared for. Better than 3 star rating assigned, in our opinion.
Enjoyed Most:
Very spacious and safe for our kids to roam about and explore the wonderful grounds. Pool was nice and access to tennis courts and other games was great. Family owners were there all the time and very helpful and friendly. Very peaceful given hilltop setting above the town.
Enjoyed Least:
Lots of wasps around - my son was stung twice.
Surrounding Area:
Very pretty countryside and nice small town, nearby Staggia. Access to Superstrade was convenient for day trips to Siena, Florence, Lucca and pretty much anywhere in the Tuscany region. Located right in the heart of the Chianti Region.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. Not really practica to walk unless you have lots of unused energy, since it is down a relatively steep hill. Always intense heat will prohibit making that trip unless later in the evening. Only a couple minutes by car, however.
Tips or Restaurants:
Local restaurants in Staggia recommended by Claudia were very good.
Directions:
Easy to reach off the Superstrade.
Check In Out:
Very informal and quick on both ends.

Overall:
I found the family running the farm to be very pleasant and pleased we were there. They wanted to make sure our experience was a pleasurable one.
Enjoyed Most:
The physical beauty. Additionally, being in the midst of a working farm was fascinating.
Enjoyed Least:
No dryer only a washing machine. We were not prepared to have to hang-dry clothes
Surrounding Area:
Just the small towns that were fun exploring that may or may not be the places you are "supposed" to visit. Especially Staggia, Siena, and Monteriggioni.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. I loved this little community which was very friendly and not touristy at all. It was within walking distance; however the road was busy with no definitive place to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring clothes pins! Pizzeria in Staggia was wonderful and very "local".

Todd, June

Overall:
The whole family was extremely friendly and helpful. Franco gave us a tour in the wine-making end of the operation; they were more then happy to let you use the internet; and the place was immaculate.
Enjoyed Most:
Location was better then expected. We went everywhere in Tuscany and the longest drive was about two hours to - Piombino, on the coast. The property itself was better then expected. The pictures on the web site did not do it justice.
Enjoyed Least:
No real living room in our apartment, but not really a hardship as there was a large kitchen table you could gather around. Plus, if weather is warm, plenty of comfortable outdoor seating available.
Surrounding Area:
We were there in October and the surrounding scenery was absolutely breathtaking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia Senese about 1.5 kilometer away. Easy to walk to the small grocery store and pizzeria located in town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Our apartment in the Villa was very well stocked with the basics for preparing a meal, etc. Previous guests including ourselves, left enough of the basics to get you started. Claudia was helpful with restaurants in the area. Pizzeria in Staggia - Trattoria della Rana was good. Also in nearby Castellina in Chianti - 20 minutes - an excellent restaurant for a nice dinner - La Torre. In Siena we had a wonderful Steak Fiorentina at a restaurant in the square that Franco recommended. Also, if you make the drive to Cortona, where they filmed Under the Tuscan Sun, a great place for lunch with a view is Ristorante Tonino! One suggestion, if you have small children and you don't speak Italian - a portable DVD player and DVD movies might be a thought.
Directions:
Directions were easy to follow and so close to the highway, almost impossible to get lost!
Check In Out:
Claudia is part of the family that owns and operates the Villa and is very helpful with any questions you might ask.

Overall:
We had a fabulous time ! We absolutely loved the area. Claudia was most helpful to us during our stay. She is a delightful and warm individual.
Enjoyed Most:
The accomodations were luxurious and yet very quaint with wonderful characteristics of a true Tuscany vacation.
Surrounding Area:
The property was perfectly situated between Siena and Florence and made a great base for exploring the surrounding villages and towns close by; Colle Val D'Elsa,Montepulciano, Deruta, Assisi, San Gimignano, and of course, Siena and Florence.
Tips or Suggestions:
Rentvillas did a fantastic job of making the recommendation (many thanks to Kendra for pointing us to this property) and everything from logistics to directions and miscellaneous questions were addressed without a hitch. Many thanks to all of you who helped make our trip so enjoyable and stress-free. Our friend coming from Nice also had no problems finding us. I will highly recommend your service to other friends/family who are traveling to Europe and seeking this type of accommodation.

Overall:
We liked the "agriturismo" aspect of our property: being surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, the access to the wine and olive oil produced by the family. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and sharing the location with other renters was a plus because it was interesting to interact with them (we were the only Americans) and there were other children for our kids to play with. We loved the access to bikes, tennis, table tennis and fussball. The proprietors were generous about allowing access to the internet in their office, and responded to our every request. We could not have asked for a more perfect week.
Enjoyed Most:
Overall ambience, friendliness of the proprietors, beautiful grounds and pool, abundant outdoor eating areas, convenience of location.
Enjoyed Least:
Two of the bathrooms were very small. The ground floor room was not very useful. No inside location in which to read comfortably other than in bed. This wasn't a problem in warm weather, because we read outside, but might have been if we were indoors more.
Surrounding Area:
We liked the ease with which we had access to such places as Volterra, Siena, San Gimigniano, Montalcino. The nearby village of Staggia had most of what we needed in terms of food, post office, cafe.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The Cistercian abbey Sant'Antim, near Montalcino, was worth the 1 hour 15 minute drive. Also the Piero della Francesca frescoes in Arezzo. See also the towns mentioned in #4 above.
Tips or Restaurants:
We thought the Etruscan Museum in Volterra was wonderful. In San Gimigniano, we had a great lunch at Locanda di Sant'Agostino, near the church of the same name. Another good lunch at Ristorante La Finestra, behind the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena.

Mary Louise, August

Overall:
Lovely setting, wonderful location, charming and helpful property managers--a delightful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
Location.
Enjoyed Least:
Other than the kitchen area, there is no comfortable room in which to gather. Downstairs sitting room is just a hallway, really. It could be made more comfortable and user friendly.
Surrounding Area:
Staggia is a wonderful little town. There is also a very adequate grocery in town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Il Mulino restaurant--very, very good.

Mary Joe M., October

Overall:
We really enjoyed our stay at Montalpruno - the peace and quiet, the wonderful wines, the grounds, our helpful, friendly hosts. The whole experience surpassed our expectations and we hope to return!
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds were really lovely - a beautiful pool, views, plentiful outdoor eating areas. We had several evening "camp-fires" in the outdoor fire-place. We appreciated the good quality, readily available, reasonably priced wines and olive oil made there on the premises.
Enjoyed Least:
There were some flys & bugs, even though we were there in early October, so the lack of screens on the windows might be a problem for some. We didn't find it to be an issue.
Surrounding Area:
The village of Staggia has a nice little bakery and new co-op grocery store, convenient for picking up a few things. I would recommend doing major grocery shopping in Poggibonsi at one of several large stores.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villages of Monteriggioni and old town Colle di Val d'Else are great for partial day trips. San Gimignano and Siena were terrific day trips. The drive through the Chianti region has beautiful views and interesting towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed a nice meal at the Villa Lecchi, which is several miles away, but visible across the valley from Montalpruno. We would highly recommend having dinner at Ristorante Il Piccolo Castello in Monteriggioni. We drove to Poggibonsi and took the train into Florence (about a 75 minute trip). It was an inexpensive, easy way to get to the city.

Overall:
We loved the Montalpruno Villa. It was an absolutely, magical place. Beautiful setting, excellent amenities; tennis rackets, bicycles, pool, outside sitting areas and location. We rented El Camino - we were a party of six and the accommodations were excellent. Each couple had their own private bedroom and bathroom. Incredible views from all of our windows. The family is wonderful, speaks English well and was extremely helpful. Wine and olive oil available for purchase on the property. This Villa is very close to many hilltop towns, as well as Siena and Florence for day trips. There is internet access in the office for a small fee.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything!
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing!
Surrounding Area:
Overlooking historic Staggia. Very centrally located. We walked into the town and explored one day. Very friendly townspeople. Great fun. So easy to visit surrounding Etruscan villages, so much colour and history. A great location.

Christine, September

Overall:
Very beautiful property. Well maintained and organized. Easy access from the highway. It is close to small towns.
Enjoyed Most:
Overall layout of property, the fact that it was a working farm with wide open views and lots of moving air.
Surrounding Area:
Easy access to both nearby small towns (Staggia & Poggibonsi) and closer small towns (Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, Volterra). Easy access by highway to Siena and Firenze.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There was a fireworks display one evening we could watch from the property. The Tuesday market in Poggibonsi. All the medieval hilltop towns.

P, June

Overall:
We were very pleased with all aspects of the property.< The owners were terrific. The property exceeded all our expectations. The rooms were very nice. The location was great for exploring Tuscany. We look forward to staying here again.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a wonderfully peaceful place to stay while exploring the area.
Surrounding Area:
Many good resturants, vineyards within short drives. It was also a great location for visiting Florence and many of the other small Tuscan towns.
