Customer Reviews

Overall:
Overall the property and atmosphere were great. The location was convenient to Siena and we found this to be very enjoyable, much more so than Florence.
Enjoyed Most:
The peaceful gardens and the bed/bath arrangements.
Enjoyed Least:
We had some issues with seemingly small things. The Internet code kept expiring, and we would have preferred a less sensitive access, but the staff were helpful in sorting out the problem. Also it would have been nice to have some dishwashing fluid and sponge. The exit onto the road was tricky. We were always worried about oncoming traffic.
Surrounding Area:
The view over Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Contafabrio was the nearest town, but other than one osteria, there was not much here. It was a long walk and the road was narrow.
Tips or Restaurants:
The large Conad supermarket was a great blessing. The pizzeria in nearby Montebuccio was great and we had a tasty, reasonably priced dinner with a view of a gorgeous sunset.

Overall:
Good.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and pool area.
Enjoyed Least:
Proximity to town.
Surrounding Area:
Quiet surroundings.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Costafabbri too dangerous to walk as streets are narrow with lots of blind corners.
Tips or Restaurants:
Buys basics: soap, paper towels, dishcloths, salt and pepper, toilet paper... since it's not a hotel don't expect extras.
Directions:
We took a cab as the car rental in town closed at 12pm Saturday and we didn't arrive until 7pm.the info on the car rental said they were open till 9pm so we were without a car for a day. The car rental is in a travel agency...poor service. The cab driver knew our property.

Lisa, September

Overall:
It was great to return home each night to our little place.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting - the views across the vineyards - the olive tree grove - the pool area, even though we didn't swim. I hate to admit that we did enjoy having English language CNN for our news 'fix'. Proximity to Siena and highway was great.
Enjoyed Least:
Musty smell - Difficulty in working the washing machine and dishwasher. Louisa gave verbal instructions upon our arrival, but we would have appreciated a printed pictorial about how to use them. The toaster blew the circuits, and we never tried to use it again. The lighting was harsh in the living room and minimal in bedrooms. Pillows are pretty hard, but I always travel with a small down pillow.
Surrounding Area:
Siena was very nearby which was one of the reasons for our choosing this property. We enjoyed day trips to Assisi, San Gimignano. and Monteriggione, Orvieto, Montalcino and Sant' Antimo, Pienza, Cortona and Arezzo. We had purchased a GPS before the trip and found it to be VERY USEFUL!!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The little market is on the right at the very bottom of the hill.
Tips or Restaurants:
We did find dishtowels, dishwasher tablets and a little salt and toilet paper. We brought soap for showers, soap, sponge and 'wipes' for kitchen, salt and pepper. We went to Conad supermarket for paper towels and other basics, then filled in at the little market. We bought some candles to add a little atmosphere because the lighting was harsh. We especially enjoyed La Cappanna dei Cavalieri 'up the hill' in Montalbucci....very good sea bass and a short pasta with gorgonzola. Il Cantuccio wasn't as much to our liking. We would have enjoyed a CD player while we were having cocktails and dining.
Directions:
Our GPS brought us in from a different direction.

Enjoyed Most:
The setting of this property is outstanding. We loved the view of the Tuscan hills, and the vineyard and olive grove attached to this property. The pool was a great hit with our children, who loved to come back from a day of sightseeing to cool off in the water.
Enjoyed Least:
It would have been nice to have been provided with some basics, such as dish soap, bath soap, salt and pepper, dishwashing detergent, etc. Also, the washing machine did not work and was not fixed during the two weeks of our stay, despite the fact that we notified the manager the day after we arrived.
Surrounding Area:
Siena is close by, as are many wonderful Tuscan towns. We spent many wonderful days travelling to these places and becoming familiar with the history and culture of Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Costafabbri, which was not within easy walking distance for our 10 and 12 year old children. The walk back from the town was up a steep and narrow road, which put it out of our reach on foot.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant in Costafabbri was very good, especially because of the good humour and friendliness of the staff. I would suggest that future renters bring basics such as soap, salt and pepper, and dish towels, although these should be provided by management. As well, while very nice barbecue pits are provided, charcoal and fire starter is not. Evenings can be warm and since the apartment is often closed up during the day while we are away, it can get stuffy. A great addition would be ceiling fans to circulate the air and make sleeping more comfortable.
Directions:
Directions were very good.

David, August

Overall:
Fabulous for a family of five.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and view. Walking and jogging were wonderful in the area.
Enjoyed Least:
The washing machine did not operate. The gas stove would not start - needed matches. There was nothing stocked in the kitchen - no salt, no sugar, no detergent.
Surrounding Area:
The views and character of the vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbuccio or Costafabbri. Both are a 20 minute walk away. Siena can be seen from the property, but is not within walking distance. A car is definitely required. There is ample parking.
Tips or Restaurants:
Need to bring coffee, cream, sugar, olive oil, vinegar, etc. Also need to bring matches to start the stove!! Lot's of great restaurants in Siena. In Montalbuccio Costafabbri are one restaurant each. Both are very good. Ristorante Michelle near the highway has excellent food, but rude service and high prices.
Directions:
We used a rental car with GPS.
Check In Out:
It was unclear who or where to check in with. However, at this time of year early April most of the villas were empty.

Eric, April

Enjoyed Most:
Location, landscaping, pool
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of basic supplies, such as soap and toilet paper.
Surrounding Area:
Siena, hill towns, scenery
Tips or Restaurants:
There was no small paring knife. Very nice restaurant within a mile walk at the bottom of the hill.

Sue, June

Overall:
We just can't say enough--we loved it!!!
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful setting, very nice owners, great location.
Enjoyed Least:
No phone access.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful! close to Siena and driving distance to other hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Costafabbre. It seemed to far to walk until we actually did it--only about 20 minutes.
Tips or Restaurants:
Cantucci was a great little local restaurant--owner was fun, welcoming and food was terrific.

Katherine, May

Overall:
Loved it, We'd do it again!!
Enjoyed Most:
The proximity to Siena and neighboring villages. The views from the villa and pool. Having a pool especially during the HOT summer months. The spaciousness of the villa.
Enjoyed Least:
I wish that portable fans were included in the villa.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful landscapes, so close to the Chianti wine region, the close proximity to Siena, Florence, San Gimignano and more.

Mario, July

Overall:
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and we'd love to go back.
Enjoyed Most:
The surroundings were beautiful amidst vineyards and olive orchards with exceptional views of the neighboring hillsides. The pool was also nicely landscaped and provided a nice break from sightseeing, especially for my ten-year old son. We also liked relative proximity to the freeway for going to other cities, and the ease of getting to grocery stores and the town of Sienna. Also, we had a patio with a little barbecue that we enjoyed using.
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of air conditioning. We were there during the big heat wave and it was hard to cool the property down at night so we could sleep.
Surrounding Area:
Everything. The scenery was great and it was easy to travel to some of the other towns in the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There were signs for very small towns within sort of long walking distance, but they were more like a couple of houses along the road rather than a town. There wasn't any real destination to walk to, though the area was good for walking for exercise.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring zip lock plastic bags -- there are plenty of uses for them.

Karyn, June

Overall:
It was spacious, attractive, and in a beautiful setting.
Enjoyed Most:
Its roominess
Enjoyed Least:
The gas stove which we never quite figured out.
Surrounding Area:
What's not to enjoy in Tuscany? Being so close to Siena but not in it was a great advantage.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucca, Perugia, etc. plus wonderful villages, churches, vineyards.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are renting two properties, you have to kill half a day between leaving one and arriving at the other. There is a great restaurant in a tiny village south of Siena called Orgia. Also, if you ever see a map of the region published by MacDonald's pick it up. It is actually better in many ways than Michelin.

Walter, April

Overall:
Beautiful, well-kept grounds. Great location. Use this beautiful property as a home base to go out and visit many of the villages of Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
Privacy, peace and quiet and the location.
Enjoyed Least:
We should have looked into the area before hand as we couldn't find anyone to ask for information. Neither fans worked in either of the bathrooms. Would have liked to have had instructions on how to use the washing machine.
Surrounding Area:
Loved Siena, Florence and Asisi. Loved the beauty of the Tuscan countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena, San Gimignano, Florence, Assisi.
Tips or Restaurants:
Use this beautiful property as a home base to go out and visit many of the villages of Tuscany.

David, September

Overall:
It's an excellent value for the location.
Enjoyed Most:
Great location - in 10 minutes we could be in central Siena, already parked the car and on our way to il Campo. Also, good views from the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The bedroom smelled a bit musty/damp.
Surrounding Area:
Close to so many great places - Voltera, San Gimignano, Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, Siena. Beautiful countryside everywhere.

August

Overall:
We spent 3 wonderful weeks at Agostoli and the timing was perfect: starting May 26 the weather was perfect, not hot, not cold, no rain... and no big crowds !
Enjoyed Most:
It is quiet, it gives you privacy, and it has outstanding views.
Enjoyed Least:
The lack of a phone. Although we declined renting a cell phone that had been recommended, we never imagined that the Italian public phone system could be so poor. Public phones are scarce and many of them are out-of-order. Occasionally we also missed not being able to watch cable TV channels.
Surrounding Area:
Typical Tuscan landscape, friendly people and, of course, its closeness to Siena, a marvellous city.

Enrique, June

Overall:
Grounds of the villa were spectacular, and the pool was very welcome after warm days. Everything was very clean, and comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds were great, by far the best thing about the property, and the location was very good. You really don't need a car if you are only going to Siena. Obviously a car makes things much easier, but there is a bus system. The apartment itself was clean and well maintianed.
Enjoyed Least:
The only thing we did not like was the fact that the apartment was very damp. It is built into a corner, and although they have a large ventilation shaft for air and light the place felt a little clammy. BUT i would stay there again. The kitchen was very servicable. We were easily able to produce wonderful meals. In america we are spoiled by our kitchens, but this one had all the appliances and cookware that we needed.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful country side, very quiet, peaceful. We started our trip to Italy in Siena and finished with a week in Rome. If I were to do it over, I would end in Siena instead. It would be a very relaxing way to end a busy vacation; additionally the main highway from Siena to Florance was very close (3/4km); no noise, but easy on/off to Florance/Rome/Cortona/etc.

Tom, May

Overall:
We loved Agostoli. The property was just as described. The setting is beautiful and wonderfully quiet. It's close to the freeway, to services and to Siena. We will stay here again.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds are beautiful and the Villa was lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
We would have aprreciated more towels. It was damp in October, and they never really dried after use. Also, there were two channels on the TV. With Satelitte TV, I expected more. CNN would have been a real plus.
Surrounding Area:
The rolling hills with olive trees and vineyards make this part of Tuscany beautiful.

Mary, October

Enjoyed Most:
The setting and the quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
The washing machine didn't work.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside and the fact that it was only 10 minutes from Siena, and only an hour's drive to many of the sights we wanted to see.

Overall:
The property was pretty much as we had expected; I think it was pricey for the property itself. The view was very nice, over grape vineyard, and further, mountains, & castle-like dwellings...really picture perfect. The countryside was marvelous, as was the view from the pool area. We also enjoyed the complete silence during the night... a great sleep! The sheets and blankets on the beds were great...all white, stiff, clean cotton...very enjoyable. If you are squeamish about bugs in general...you'll find them...(centipedes and typical out in the country bugs)...you are out in the country.
Enjoyed Most:
We liked best the grounds and the views; the grounds were very nicely manicured with lots of rosemary bushes (delightful aroma), flowers and such and there was an olive tree within the pool grounds.
Enjoyed Least:
Equipment for cooking was minimal, but adequate for very simple meals; very small refrigerator; very small washer. The pool is ok...not outstanding, not bad.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside was marvelous, as was the view from the pool area; people around the area were always friendly and helpful. Also convenient to visit from here, the local vineyards, where there are direct sales of wines to consumers, along with tastings...that's fun. Siena is really the place to go for dinner if you want to stay nearby.
