Customer Reviews

Overall:
This villa was a beautiful place to vacation with family on the Amalfi coast. We can't wait to do it again!
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the view and outside dining the best!!
Enjoyed Least:
The villa was a bit isolated and not close to a market.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area was stunning! And provided beautiful sunsets!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi was the closest town within walking distance, albeit on crazy two-way roads that proved to be intimidating at first, but then we got quite used to it.

Wendy, July

Overall:
Excellent location and a great property that feels very comfortable. The outside areas make this villa as does the view.
Enjoyed Most:
Location was very peaceful, view, pool. The maid and the chef were both excellent.
Enjoyed Least:
Some amenities worked sporadically: air conditioner, washing machine, and hot water were in and out over the course of our week.
Surrounding Area:
Ravello was incredible and our favorite. Amalfi is nice but very crowded and touristy. Positano is a madhouse in the summer and while very picturesque tolerable in only small doses.
Nearby Events or Locales:
No. I wouldn't walk these roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
Too many to mention here but definitely don't plan on doing laundry. There is no dryer.
Directions:
The property managers were great and always willing to help as was the maid Candida, whom we loved. The owners run the restaurant at the bottom of the stairs where you park so you need to befriend them right off the bat.

Doug, July

Overall:
Outstanding.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and clean accommodations. Very close to downtown Amalfi.
Enjoyed Least:
The steps and barking dogs in the morning.
Surrounding Area:
The views. The villa is within walking distance to downtown Amalfi. The owners of the property were very gracious and helpful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi--yes, about a 20 minute walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa has almost everything you need. Great restaurant right at the bottom of the steps to the villa.
Directions:
No problems finding it.
Check In Out:
Everything went very smoothly.

Steve, June

Overall:
It was fantastic!
Enjoyed Most:
We liked the size and accommodations. All details were perfect.
Enjoyed Least:
The steps--but worth it because of the view!
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the location and the drivers.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi--yes, it's within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything was perfect but renters should be able to walk and handle stairs.
Check In Out:
Would do it again and in a couple of years!

Darlene, October

Overall:
Very good. Magnificent views.
Enjoyed Most:
The views.
Enjoyed Least:
The climb from the street. Not for the weak!
Surrounding Area:
The views and shopping.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi is a 25-minute walk downhill.

Michael, April

Overall:
The villa was beautiful, with spectacular views, and very spacious. The bedrooms were sectioned off from the living areas making them very private. Everyone enjoyed their own bathroom. It also had a feeling of safety as the gate locked, as did the individual bedrooms and private areas. It was wonderful for a group as the patio pool area overlooked the Mediterranean and was a wonderful spot to eat, visit, and have fun.
Enjoyed Most:
The views.
Enjoyed Least:
The noise from the road and from the church bells (it chimed every hour).
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the town of Amalfi and the access to the surrounding areas. There are water taxis that take you to Capri and Positano, etc.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurants adjacent to the property are very good.
Directions:
Barbara sent us very good directions. We were met in Amalfi and directed to the villa.

John, October

Overall:
We had the time of our lives!
Enjoyed Most:
The outside area and new pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The A/C was not what I'm used to in the U.S.
Surrounding Area:
The area was amazing and we were close to all the attractions.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi. We never walked as we were 10 people and the roads are crazy.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't worry about anything! The villa offers all the amentities and there are local drivers who are amazing and available at your call.
Directions:
We arranged private transportation, which was great.
Check In Out:
They were waiting for us and helped us with all our luggage with a pully system.

Rocco, June

Overall:
Had an amazing experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the help from the housekeeper.
Enjoyed Least:
I liked everything, though the beach was a trek to get to.
Surrounding Area:
The charm of the towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring Ipod speakers. The private chef from Pesce de Oro was great. La Tagliatta in Montepertuso was really great.

Heena, July

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. It was an terrific, relaxing place with really nice outdoor spaces where we all gathered at the end of each day.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was spectacular. Each night we watched the moon as it gradually grew over the nearby mountain.
Enjoyed Least:
The stairs can be hard. The property is near the road so it was a little noisy. There were mosquitoes which bothered some people, so bring repellent.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town is Amalfi, and it is a bit of a hike.
Tips or Restaurants:
The bus schedules are a bit confusing. Buses come only once an hour during October, so if you don't have a schedule you can end up waiting a long while.
Directions:
We ended up having a car and driver so we didn't have to follow the directions.

Barbara, October

Overall:
Nice piece of Italy, fine people, really liked the Pompeii proximity.
Enjoyed Most:
The view is unsurpassed.
Enjoyed Least:
The road noise.
Tips or Restaurants:
Best trattoria, in the town of Ravello, Gumpa Cozemo

Paul, July

Overall:
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Villa. We were there for an entire week with 10 of our closest family and friends, 12 including my fiance and me. We were in Amalfi celebrating our marriage, and had about 33 people show up for the week staying at various locations around Amalfi, and we had a blast. The Villa was absolutely gorgeous. Not only was it tastefully renovated and furnished, but all the amenities were awesome. The views were to die for. Every morning, we woke up to panoramic views of the ocean and the hills - it was incredible. The local agents were extremely helpful and nice. Our experience was one we will never forget and we are sure to return and rent this property in the future.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, the decor and the outside terraces - all of them!. The spaciousness of the villa. Since there are three separate levels, we never felt crowded.
Enjoyed Least:
The stairs. But, you get used to them. And, with views like these, we were not complaining!
Surrounding Area:
In the immediate surroundings, we loved, loved the restaurant Pesce d'Oro. They catered a couple of meals for us - for 23 people, and they were extremely nice and helpful. They were always watching out for us, offering us rides into town and tours of the neighboring villages. Pasquale, the owner of Pesce d'Oro, was so friendly--and although he speaks no English, we managed to get along. Giosy the restaurant manager, was extremely helpful, and was incredibly friendly and his English is very good. We will never forget them and hope to return someday. Besides Amalfi, we also enjoyed Ravello and Positano. You must go visit these two neighboring towns if you get a chance.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi is only about 1.2 miles away. We actually enjoyed walking there - about a 30 minute walk and did so a few times during the week. We would recommend waking up early and going on a nice morning walk into town--there is not much traffic at this time and it's so nice to enjoy the scenery in the early morning light without all the commotion during the day.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely enjoy the friendly atmosphere and delicious food at Pesce d'Oro. Watch your electricity usage, we tried to be conservative as to not have to pay extra, but we still did. Also, if you visit Ravello, you must eat at Cumpa Cosimo. It was by far, the best food we had in all of the Amalfi Coast. It's absolutely delicious and reasonably priced.
Directions:
The property is not hard to find. There is a SITA Bus line that goes right past the property in both directions, and if you ever have any questions, just tell the bus driver or taxi driver, Ristorante Pesce d'Oro, and they all know where it is. It's a very well known restaurant.
Check In Out:
Both check in and check out were efficient--check in about 1 hour and check out was maybe 20 minutes. If you ever have any questions or need help with anything--restaurant reservations, ticket reservations, etc, the property manager is always available, and the maid is at the property most days for 4-5 hours. She is so helpful and such a joy, we really enjoyed her.

Laura, October

Overall:
It was a glorious week, glorious weather, warm-hearted people and great food. Wonderful experience! Villa Luce Sul Mare is about a mile outside of Amalfi. Our entire family, 11 of us, all three generations, were there to celebrate my 80th birthday. The Villa was perfect for us. Located high above the Amalfi Coast, we had a magnificent view of the Coast, east of Amalfi.
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful views and locale, easily reached by public transportation. The Villa had six bedrooms, each comfortable with good beds, some with terraces, a large well-equipped kitchen and an outdoor shaded dining table on a shaded terrace. The rooms are all air-conditioned which was required at times in July. All windows and doors are fully screened, so bugs are no problem. The Villa comes completely stocked for your first evening dinner and for breakfast and lunch with items included in your rental which we augmented. There is more wine than you could possibly drink in a week; We tried.
Enjoyed Least:
172 steps up to property is difficult for elderly people. We managed OK because we are quite fit, but I would not recommend it for elderly people. There is a mechanized luggage conveyor used by the Villa staff. Stairs down to the beach are a few hundred steps.
Surrounding Area:
Ravello, Amalfi and Positano are lovely towns to roam around. Capri, Naples and Sorrento are accessible by ferry or the faster jet-foil from the nearby dock at Amalfi.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Villa also offers a chef to cook dinner at the Villa which we did. He prepared three delicious four-course meals, purchased all foods and cleaned up after. We also had dinner at two very good restaurants below us on the main road; Al Pesce d’Oro and Trattoria Chicchio, Cielo, Mare Terra. The chef-cooked dinners at our Villa were excellent and very convenient but the nearby restaurants were a better buy. A maid, Candida, was provided for a nominal charge per week. She cleaned breakfast dishes, made the beds and cleaned house and washed clothes each day. She was unbelievable, spoke excellent English and was extremely companionable. The house agent was efficient and courteous and disposed of all rental matters with a minimum of effort. The SITA bus is fine, it can take you anywhere along the Coast. Service is about every half-hour at the bus-stop below our villa and only 1 euro to get to Amalfi. This is much preferable to nerve-wracking driving of a rental car. Remember the road has been said to be only 1 ½ cars wide. The Amalfi Drive and some other quasi East-West roads provide access to all parts of the coast from Sorrento to Salerno, but the transit from seacoast up to cliff peaks by car is not possible due to the steep character of the cliffs. Long staircases provide that access.

Overall:
When we finally arrived in Amalfi, and saw our villa, all of our expectations were exceeded. The views, the wonderful people, the courtesy shown by the property managers and the staff, were all part and parcel of an incredible Italian journey.
Enjoyed Most:
There were 10 of us staying at the villa, and because of the 3-story lay out, no one felt crowded or had a lack of privacy. That allowed us all to experience the villa and Amalfi in our own ways...
Enjoyed Least:
I didn't dislike it, but the trek up the stairs from the street proved just how out of shape most of us were.
Surrounding Area:
Amalfi and the little towns along the coast are singularly beautiful and each town has it's own personality. Everyone we ran into made our stay easier and wonderful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi was the nearest town. It was not really within walking distance, but the bus stopped right at the bottom of the stairway from the villa, and ran quite often, so getting around was no problem at all.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pesci d'Oro was an amazing restaurant. The owner created a family style dinner for our group, as well as serving individual dishes. For seafood lovers, it's a must! As far as what to bring, first of all you need your cameras to try and capture as much of the view as you can. Secondly, good walking shoes, since you walk around through the little towns. And most important of all, bring the right attitude! You're in Italy, not the States, and I think you will ruin the experience if you want things done ten minutes ago. On the coast, it's important to learn to slow down and enjoy each experience as it happens...
Check In Out:
The property managers were more than helpful getting us settled in, even by arranging a bus to meet us at the airport in Naples. Candida, who helped keep everything tidy, became our best friend there, and we're going to try and keep up a correspondence. The customer service was completely outstanding!

Pamela, June

Overall:
We had a wonderful week with 10 friends to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. Everyone was very impressed with the villa and the surroundings.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and the gardens.
Enjoyed Least:
The 130 stairs to the villa from the road were hard work for some of our guests. It rained for a few days and we found the lounge room a bit small for us all to share those evenings inside. Unfortunately the fridge and freezer didn't work when we arrived.
Surrounding Area:
It was a good base for Amalfi and Positano
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi was a 3kms walk downhill mostly. But a 10- 15 Euro taxi fare back.
Check In Out:
Allow 1-2 hours to go through everything with the agent.

Wendy, May

Enjoyed Most:
The views are spectacular. Although the property is brand new, the old world feeling is maintained with the decorations and the furnishings.
Enjoyed Least:
THE STAIRS!!! Yikes. This place is not for those that cannot handle extra effort. Just to get to the villa there are 105 stairs. The beach is 450 stairs. Going down isn't so bad, but coming up!
Surrounding Area:
The entire coast is filled with one beautiful site after another. Italians are friendly, and beautiful too.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi is 3 km away. Not easily walkable for the average person, especially since there are no sidewalks; rather, you share the twisting roads with lots of cars.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be prepared for the stairs! This is the kind of place that you want to get to and stay! Look for a private driver, unless you are confident with in Italy. We dined next door at the Pesce D'Oro, and it was very good. Had pizza in town at Lo Smerladino, authentic Neopolitan pizza.

Maurizio, September

Enjoyed Most:
The views.
Enjoyed Least:
The steps and traffic noise.
Surrounding Area:
Friendliness of the locals and the natural beauty.
Tips or Restaurants:
Future renters - travel to Montepertuso and have dinner at Il Ritrovo. Also, bring some type of beach shoe as the beaches are rocky.

Mike, July

Overall:
A wonderful experience. The staff at the Villa helped with luggage, groceries and cleaning. We did not want to leave.
Enjoyed Most:
The View and location.
Enjoyed Least:
The Stairway to Heaven all 144 of them!
Surrounding Area:
The local town of Amalfi. Trip to Capri. Tour of Pompeii.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Amalfi was a 5 minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring/buy mosquite repellant.

Walter, June

Enjoyed Most:
The architecture.
Enjoyed Least:
The number of stairs!
Surrounding Area:
Bus transportation and excellent restaurant after descending stairs.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Amalfi and was within walking distance to get there. We returned by bus.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be in excellent physical condition to do 146 steps just to get to the main house!
