Customer Reviews

Overall:
Perfect for truly embracing the Italian way of life... Simple, number of small villages close by and non commercial. Good for a getaway experience for those wanting to take short day trips to larger towns, if willing to drive on Italian roadways, preparing their own meals and no TV.
Enjoyed Most:
Views, small town, pool, simplicity.
Enjoyed Least:
Small bathroom and small bedroom. Living room furniture, which consists of two small chairs and a small sofa, are a bit worn.
Surrounding Area:
Luca, Pisa, Barga, Devils Bridge, and the views and simplicity of the town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Coreglia
Tips or Restaurants:
Be willing to drive if you want to take in famous towns and sites. Great place for quiet solitude and simplicity.
Directions:
Need distance between turns.
Check In Out:
Well done.

Bob , May

Overall:
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Coreglia. The site and the view especially are absolutely beautiful. Event better than the pictures. The villa is very nice and has everything to make your stay pleasant. We would definitively recommend this place.
Enjoyed Most:
Its location, the view, and the fact that it is so quiet around there (very little circulation, no cars in the village).
Enjoyed Least:
Although it was mentioned (not a surprise), the fact that the bell of the nearby church (actually, a few feet from the villa) rings every hour from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM everyday was a little bit annoying at first, considering that it is so quiet apart from that. We got used to it and found it amusing at the end. Might be bothersome for someone wishing to sleep late.
Surrounding Area:
We really liked walking around in the small village. Again, everyday you look, the view is simply breathtaking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is located in Coreglia Antelminelli (just at the border of the village.) So, you are already in the village and can walk to one of three little grocery store. Yo could technically not take your car at all. Yo have to take your car to go to larger village and town. Count on 10-15 minutes to reach other villages where you will find larger stores and restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are looking for a very good meal, you can go to Ristorante Buttefly, near Lucca, a 35-minute drive. The restaurant has a Michelin Star which is well deserved. Count approximately 100 Euros per person with wine. Otherwise, we cooked our food most of the time. The kitchen is not large, but has everything you need.
Directions:
We used a GPS and could not program it as suggested. We ended up taking smaller roads.
Check In Out:
Anna Maria was very nice and helpful. No problem with the check-in or check-out.

Andre, October

Overall:
Our family enjoyed staying at Casa Coreglia. It's close to Lucca--about 30 minutes. The pool was great with the kids.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool and how close the restaurant across the street is--for those nights when we did not want to drive.
Enjoyed Least:
The bed.
Surrounding Area:
The view of the mountains and the distance to Lucca.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bagni Di Lucca which is a 15 minute drive. The villa is in Coreglia Antelminelli, which is very quiet.
Tips or Restaurants:
Not sure I am spelling it right, but L'Article right in front of the house.
Directions:
We came from Florence, so I would not plug in the address of the house into the GPS until we got to the Lucca exit off of the A11 Autostrada.
Check In Out:
Very smooth.

Thomas And Crystal, July

Overall:
The property is wonderful. The church bells ring every 12 hours from 6 am to 12 pm. This may bother some people but we found it charming and got used to them right away.
Enjoyed Most:
The views from the back yard and the local people who were very peaceful and quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
The internet was a bit of a problem and there is no TV, only dvd and videos. But we were on vacation, so who cares!
Surrounding Area:
There are so many surrounding towns to be explored. Short day trips that allowed us to be back at the villa in the late afternoon to enjoy the villa and the small town we were in.
Nearby Events or Locales:
No towns within walking distance-a few bars and gelato places in our town. Otherwise a car ride down the mountain and lots of surrounding towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant next to the villa is wonderful and casual. Everything was casual so no nice clothes are necessary. I do recommend getting up and going to the close cafe for the bread truck that delivers fresh bread every morning for a small amount of Euros.
Directions:
Directions from Lucca were hard. If you use GPS type in Barga and that will lead you to Coreglia Antelminelli. which heads you up the mountain to the town. Barga is 8 Kilometers north.
Check In Out:
Sometimes is was difficult to get in touch with the managerdue to cell phone problems.

Elizabeth, June

Overall:
This villa was perfect for my wife and me. The back yard is beautiful with incredible views. The interior was well maintained and very comfortable. We loved the small town and its people.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a nice, comfortable, quiet refuge after a full day of touring Tuscany,
Enjoyed Least:
Although the property is only not very far from Lucca in KM's it is a slow trip and took as long as an hour each way. Once we knew how remote it was we rescheduled several longer trips and stayed closer to home.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful mountains. After a hot day in the valley Coreglia was a nice cool place to come home to.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is in the town of Coreglia next door to the church. It is no more that 20 meters from a great restaurant named L'Arcile, which is as good as any that we dined at
Tips or Restaurants:
Shop in Lucca and stock up on supplies before you check in. There are very few grocery options in Coreglia.
Directions:
The directions were fine but tedious. I would have people follow signs to Barga and then make the final corrections before passing Piano de Coreglia. We used a GPS and it was very poor in The smaller areas of Tuscany. It worked well for day trips to larger areas, but sent us on very poor roads instead of major ones in the Garfagnana area.

Bruce, June

Overall:
Relaxing and peaceful.
Enjoyed Most:
The position on the town wall and the magnificent view.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen
Surrounding Area:
It was lovely to walk around town especially at dusk. There is an abundance of great places to visit during the day. Car is essential.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Coreglia is at the bottom of the hill, an easy walk down but need a car to return home.
Tips or Restaurants:
We spent the days exploring surrounding areas and ate in most evenings.
Directions:
We used a GPS that took us along the same side of the river as Coreglia but found the more major road on the other side of the river was a much easier drive to get out of the valley towards Lucca.

Gayle, April

Overall:
Wonderful experience
Enjoyed Most:
Location. Ambience of the place.
Enjoyed Least:
Carrying things up and down the hill.
Directions:
Used GPS but Annamaria's directions were vital and well thought out.

Pat, April

Overall:
Wonderful! Anna Maria was an EXCELLENT hostess, made us feel right at home. She was very helpful when minor issues came up, and was easily reached! We plan on coming again.
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful view out the back and very quiet.
Surrounding Area:
Walking trails in the forest.
Tips or Restaurants:
The L'Arcile restaurant is a MUST. We ate there every night. Had other meals in Lucca and Barga and although reasonably good, were not nearly as excellent as L'Arcile. Clearly homemade food that tasted amazing!
Directions:
Had a GPS but was needed primarily to get back to Florence once we were in the city. Rental car company did not give good directions on how to get back, but that was not your issue. Your directions to and from Coreglia were great.
Check In Out:
None - it was literally smooth as silk.

Bruno, October

Overall:
Stay was very good.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The location next to the church. The church bells ring every hour. Living room furniture was worn. The upstairs shower is small for an adult.
Surrounding Area:
The people were friendly.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Villa is in center of town but not near anything else worth doing unless you have a car.
Tips or Restaurants:
Limited restaurant and shopping choices. Definitely have a car; location is remote and at the top of a mountain which would have been good to know, we would have spent less time driving.
Directions:
GPS was better than directions.

Lisa, August

Overall:
Our overall experience was fantastic. What a beautiful place.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, the backyard area, the pool, and the bell tower.
Enjoyed Least:
Probably the small kitchen, but really, it was fine.
Surrounding Area:
I loved the restaurant (L'Arcile) just around the corner. So convenient and the food was great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Well, we were in a small town so we could walk to the local shops. There were no other small towns that were within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
See above regarding L'Arcile restaurant. Maybe a good corkscrew.
Check In Out:
Everything was a close to perfect as possible.

Brenda, June

Overall:
Very pleasant.
Enjoyed Most:
The views.
Enjoyed Least:
The bell tower next door, but I got used to the bells.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and food.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the villa of Coreglia.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant next door is one of the best.
Directions:
Use the directions as a guide only (stores and gas stations change names) and make sure you have a good road map. If you use GPS, make sure you load Italy before you leave.

Thomas, June

Overall:
Loved the property. We really thought every attention to detail was given to provide a warm, lovely, homey Italian atmosphere. From the books provided on language, culture, practicalities (such as using the authentic Italian coffee maker) and info on the locality, we were very at home. I'd love to have the decorator's help in my own home! It was a great!
Enjoyed Most:
The view, the decor, and the landscaping.
Enjoyed Least:
We had unseasonably cold weather in May and were unable to use the pool! Also, we had to travel 45 minutes to get to the autostrada.
Surrounding Area:
Loved Lucca as much as Florence (having previously visited the Uffizi and the duomo there). The many towns closer to Coreglia Antelminelli like Barga and Castlenouvo were also nice.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure to stop at the major market 30 minutes before Coreglia Antelminelli for any necessities.
Directions:
Used a GPS and the RentVillas directions, but still had to ask for directions. Signage on Italy is somewhat lacking. Got lost every time we went anywhere for the first time!

KIMBERLY, May

Overall:
The stay was very pleasant. We were mostly away from the villa visiting the towns and cities of Tuscany. We left early in the morning and returned late in the evening. For someone who likes to just sit back and relax, this is the perfect place.
Enjoyed Most:
The exceptional views of the surrounding mountains and valley from all back windows. The large shower was a plus, also.
Enjoyed Least:
The distance from the villa to the city of Lucca and surrounding towns and sights. Approximately a 50-minute drive.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Other than where the villa is situated the next town would be Piano di Coreglia--about 15-minutes away by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
The local restaurant Archile (within the village) was very good.
Directions:
Pay attention when you enter into the roundabouts.
Check In Out:
Anna-Marie was delightful with her help and charm--a real plus for any visitor to the property.

Luisa, October

Overall:
Overall, we had an amazing stay at Casa Coreglia. The villa was charming, the village was quaint, and the church bells were endearing - no need for clocks! We found the peace and quiet we were looking for, and it was a wonderful escape! We hope to return again someday, perhaps with our children!
Enjoyed Most:
The stunning view!
Enjoyed Least:
The tiny shower on the second floor (only to discover later that there was a larger shower on the main floor! Hidden in what we thought was a closet or laundry room!)
Surrounding Area:
The scenic drives through the valley and nearby hilltop villages, the beautiful walled town of Lucca, and an easy drive to Florence in one direction, and the sea in the other direction!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Situated in the town of Coreglia Antelminelli, it was a very convenient stroll to the nearest restaurant, cafe, and local market.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant around the corner, L'Arcile, had great food and local charm.
Directions:
Our GPS got us there without a hitch.
Check In Out:
The owner, Anna Maria, was delightful. It was great to chat with her about the local places to visit and to dine, and she always made herself available for questions.

Tanya, September

Overall:
This was a wonderful experience. We had no car, by choice, and spent all 7 days at the villa relaxing, reading and drinking wine by the pool. Originally, I had planned to cook a few meals there but discovered L'Archife, a fabulous restaurant, about 30 feet from the front gate of the villa. We ate there everyday. It is run by a lovely family. Every dish was wonderful with the fresh pasta a true standout!
Enjoyed Most:
Without a doubt, the view was the best.
Enjoyed Least:
The bathroom upstairs is rather small. The bathroom downstairs is nice but inconvenient.
Surrounding Area:
The village is charming. We enjoyed walking and meeting some of the residents.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa itself is in the village within easy walking distance of the market, drugstore, bank, etc.
Tips or Restaurants:
Previous visitors warned about the church bells so we took ear plugs. We found the ear plugs unnecessary as the bells are charming.
Directions:
We hired a driver in Florence to take us to the villa as we chose not to drive.

M.A., September

Overall:
We both enjoyed our stay and had a really nice time.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, the pool, the backyard area for relaxing. Having two bathrooms was a definite bonus even for just two people. Very close to restaurant.
Enjoyed Least:
The furnishings in the lounge area need refurbishing. It was not a comfortable spot for sitting. No TV. Kitchen is small. No kitchen tongs.
Surrounding Area:
Village atmosphere delightful. The little cats roaming around. Very friendly.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Piano Coreglia. Not really.
Tips or Restaurants:
DVD's. A good book. Kitchen tongs.
Directions:
Used GPS, but arriving was somewhat. Had to call the owner for final directions.
Check In Out:
No problem at all. Met Annmarie on arrival--she is just lovely.

Alice, September

Overall:
The place was beautiful the town was cute. Given the heat in the lower areas, we were pleased to be able to be in the cooler mountains. However, the drive up and down the mountain was much more challenging than I ever expected. We always felt the need to be in our town before sunset.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and pool.
Enjoyed Least:
We found the bunk bed in the second bedroom to be inadequate for two older children; one adult child had to sleep in the living room. We would have appreciated more contact and assistance from the key holder following our arrival.
Surrounding Area:
Walking about the town. Going down the mountain to Lucca.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the town and it was very nice.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen needs a better cork screw
Directions:
Got lost at first but the directions were very good.
Check In Out:
Check-in was fine. We met Anna Maria and expected to see her again and get more information from her, but we never saw her again. She left a note while we were out stating that we owed money for food and specifying where to leave the key on our final night.

Helene, August

Overall:
We had the most marvelous time at Casa Coreglia. We took day trips to neighboring towns almost daily, and it was so nice to come back to Casa Coreglia at the end of the day and relax. The outdoor area was pretty and perfect for relaxing. The kids loved the pool and were in it every chance they got. The view from the house was beautiful, and watching the sun rise and set over the mountains was amazing.
Enjoyed Most:
I loved the back outdoor area. It was wonderful to leave all the windows open and enjoy the beautiful view from the windows and the cool breezes. It was so peaceful and relaxing to take our meals outside. It was great to wake up in the morning and walk to Bar Michele for cappuccini or walk to L'Arcile for a wonderful dinner. The waitstaff is so friendly and wonderful at L'Arcile; my son celebrated his 8th birthday there and the waiter (I believe he was the owner's son) juggled for him. They always had big smiles and were so helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
The bells woke me a few times in the morning, but they did not really disturb us. In fact, we came to really enjoy them.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area was beautiful. We were able to take day trips to the Cinque Terre (caught a train in La Spezia), Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano, Siena, and Florence (caught a train in Lucca).
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is essentially at the edge of Coreglia Antelminelli and we could easily walk to the little grocery market, butcher, cafes, etc. I loved that you could not drive cars in much of the town. It was nice to eat outside at Il Grillo and watch the sunset.
Tips or Restaurants:
Possibly ear plugs, altho I did not use mine. We loved sleeping with the windows open, though you may want to bring an eye mask if you don't want to be woken up by the sun.
Directions:
We found a GPS to be ESSENTIAL for navigating the countryside, although it was not much use in getting us to our villa once you reached Lucca. However, the directions provided were detailed and very useful.

Lisa, July

Overall:
It was a wonderful experience. I would recommend Casa Coreglia to others. Perhaps 4 weeks was a bit too long to stay in that area; by the end of three weeks we had exhausted our places to visit in the area, although we loved many of them--particularly Lucca. We did leave a couple days early and spent that time in Florence so as to tour the Siena area.
Enjoyed Most:
The outside was the greatest: comfortable, and what a view! There were times though, we would rather have had a Jacuzzi instead of the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Some steps in the house, particularly going from dining room to living room--just two, but very steep--had to be very careful. Also, sofa in living room was uncomfortable.
Surrounding Area:
Actually loved the bells in the church right next door. The people around town were extremely friendly.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There was no other town within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Actually we had everything we needed; just heeded RentVillas' suggestions before we left. Great restaurant right next door and wonderful restaurants in the area, but you had to drive to each one and probably the closest was about 20 minutes or so away.
Directions:
Used a GPS and drove from Florence. No problems with arrival and Anna Maria was super-duper!

Elizabeth, June

Overall:
Great experience. We want to return to this property in the future. Excellent location and the town was very peaceful and quiet during our October visit.
Enjoyed Most:
Charming, well kept, Tuscan property with wonderful surroundings and friendly, helpful local residents and on site contact person.
Enjoyed Least:
I liked everything about this property overall; the only thing that I would recommend is a more comfortable mattress in the master bedroom. Upstairs bathroom/shower was small, but we did not personally find this problematic as there was also a larger bathroom downstairs.
Surrounding Area:
The village of Coreglia is delightful and was within easy range of other Tuscan sites and towns. It was very tempting never to leave once settled into the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We could take a quick walk to the bottom of the village where there was a bar, and further along, a market and pharmacy. The nearest actual town was Fornaci, and was not really within walking distance. However, there was a small market, clothing shop, and restaurant in the village of Coreglia Antelminelli, which were very convenient without needing to leave the village.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved L'Arcile, which is about 100 steps away from the villa.
Directions:
We did use a GPS and highly recommend it but did have to be wary of being on the intended route as GPS can send you onto the shortest, but not necessarily the best, path.
Check In Out:
Anna Maria was very gracious and we enjoyed hearing about the area from her. She was very helpful. Fluent in English and Italian!

Carol , October

Overall:
We LOVED it! It was perfectly situated...quaint, quiet (aside from the bells), which we were prepared for and became endearing. Close to Pisa for a day trip...absolutely wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The peace and quiet--the "living locally"--morning trips to the butcher, sitting in the backyard enjoying the view.
Enjoyed Least:
The bed in the master bedroom was VERY uncomfortable; I think it was broken, as it had a very distinct lean on one side. I almost fell out of bed one night!
Surrounding Area:
Close to Lucca, Barga, Pisa. Great scenery, nice people, mountain views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa was in town close to a restaurant, butcher/store--everything you needed. We did some grocery shopping on a day trip to Pisa, but otherwise everything we needed was right in Coreglia Anteminelli. Have to be prepared that everything closes from 1-4 in the afternoon...we got caught a few times!
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring ear plugs. Also, you might want to bring a few of your own DVDs for quiet evenings watching a movie. Bring a book, but mostly just plan to relax, read, swim, and enjoy the view. It was wonderful! L'Archille had FANTASTIC bruschetta!!! And, it was right across the street.
Directions:
We used a GPS and found it INVALUABLE in the remote, confusing little towns. However the directions from RentVillas were excellent.

Michelle, October

Overall:
Awesome! We felt like the Lord and Lady of our own little castle.
Enjoyed Most:
Floating in the pool gazing over the ramparts at the lush slopes, listening to songbirds and smelling the jasmine.
Enjoyed Least:
Our weak US dollar made it a bit dear.
Surrounding Area:
Pisa's leaning tower and Lucca's oak tree tower, The Duomo in Barga, Garzoni Garden in Collodi, Cinque Terre drive through La Spezia to Riomaggiore when you tire of hiking there are ferry boats and trains. And hiking in the national forest that surrounded the town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Property is in an intriguing, quiet walled village, no traffic, and walking distance to two small grocery stores, a decent restaurant out the front door.
Tips or Restaurants:
Try the pasta at the Alpino in Barga - made fresh daily. Plus they have an extensive wine selection... Bring lots of cash; some restaurants don't take cards. Have groceries with - stores don't open until Monday.
Directions:
GPS - used "city center" and once at Coreglia found the written instructions excellent. I would not consider driving in Italy without GPS.
Check In Out:
The bread, wine, milk, butter kept us alive until the grocery store opened Monday - really appreciated that nice touch.

Paul, June

Overall:
We were looking for a place to stay where we could immerse ourselves in the food and culture of Italy as well enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains, and we found all this and more at Casa Coreglia.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were spectacular as well as watching the daily activities of the local residences, as well as having the ability to shut out the outside world and enjoy the beautiful countryside.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
The ability to go to other hill top villages as well as take in the vistas of the surrounding mountains.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a set of binoculars.
Directions:
A GPS with Europe maps is a must.

Dan, May

Overall:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The keyholder was excellent and the cleaning by Donatella was well done.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and location, location, location. Central to a lot of Tuscany and close to Pisa and Lucca for trains. Reasonable travel to Florence, Siena, etc., by train. If you wanted to stay at the villa, everything needed is available at Coreglia Antelminelli's local grocer and butcher. Wonderful!
Enjoyed Least:
Switch back drive up and down the mountain to Lucca.
Surrounding Area:
Everything: restaurants, views, Barga, Lucca...
Nearby Events or Locales:
The property was in the town of Coreglia Anteminelli. No other towns in walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoyed L'Arcile across the via from the property. Il Grillo had great pizza and antipasta. Butterfly in Lucca for a more formal meal. Enjoy the bar at the first parking area informal with inexpensive wine and cappuccino, and great people watching.

Carl, May

Overall:
We had a fabulous time and were pleasantly surprised about how nice the house was, pictures on the Internet do not do it justice. It is so much nicer in person.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, Location, Location.
Enjoyed Least:
The drive to the location, while beautiful, is a little winding, although I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Surrounding Area:
The real life quaintness, the people, the view, the food - everything.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Coreglia was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant in front of the house is very good, we ate there twice. Bring a robe for the cool mornings, mine came in very handy. Also, bring good walking shoes to explore the area.
Directions:
I would suggest GPS to anyone traveling as it was invaluable.

Terri, April

Overall:
We truly enjoyed our stay. We would strongly recommend the villa for anyone looking for a peaceful and beautiful experience in Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
The location of the property was wonderful. The views of the valley were gorgeous. The house was quite delightful; it was perfect for our 2 year old. The villa was a good base to explore the northwest region of Tuscany. We ended up driving to the coast several times.
Enjoyed Least:
The church bells ringing every half hour did take some getting used to.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful mountain scenery. We took long wonderful drives through the area. The trees were turning colors, which was an added benefit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa was located in a cute little medieval town. We got to know some of the locals. Everyone was very nice.
Tips or Restaurants:
We took advantage of the kitchen at the villa most evenings. It was a lot of fun shopping at local markets for foods to cook back at the villa.

Douglas, November

Enjoyed Most:
The stunning views, location, peace and quiet - when bells were not ringing - privacy and the villa itself is just lovely. Nora was very friendly and willing to help with anything we needed. We didn't need anything but it was nice to have had a warm welcome.
Enjoyed Least:
Cold swimming pool. The visitors' book confirmed that everyone felt this as well as the noisy church bells every half hour, but we knew about this before going so it wasn't unexpected. No fan in the bedroom.
Surrounding Area:
Trips to Lucca, Barga and other towns, scenery and food!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is located within the village of Coreglia Anteminelli.
Tips or Restaurants:
The campsite restaurant is very good - 500 metres from the villa - lovely setting and good food.

Dan, August

Overall:
We would return without question. It was our favorite vacation in many years, and we were surprised how kid-friendly the villa and village were. We had a wonderful time, and if they change the mattress and heat the pool, the villa would be PERFECT!
Enjoyed Most:
The pictures on the website do not do justice to the views from the villa. They are breathtaking from every window. Also, the garden is beautiful and much more so than the pictures suggest. We were also surprised by the villa. It seems almost dark on the website, but it is so quaint, but light and airy and well-decorated. It also had everything we needed in the kitchen and bathrooms, so we did not need to bring many things that were listed on the website like hairdryer, extra towels, knife and cutting board, detergent, etc. Nora, the manager, is so charming and helpful. She also offers to cook a meal in the villa for a reasonable price, and it was incredible--the best meal we had!!
Enjoyed Least:
The bed in the master bedroom was uncomfortable, but Nora, the manager, said they may switch it out soon. Also, the church bells are a beautiful and terrible thing!!! The first 24 hours were a little rough, but once we adjusted, they were endearing. I had to wear earplugs the first 3 nights. It's hard to explain, but you love them by the end of the week. According to the visitor's book, a few people never adjusted, but most do. Also, the pool is VERY cold, even when it is warm - middle of summer - so, we never got in more than a few minutes, and it was even cold for our son. Again, the manager said they are trying to figure out how to add heating some time soon. Editor's Note: There is now gas-boiler heating for the pool. If the cover is kept on when not in use the heat is retained. May 2008.
Surrounding Area:
The village is absolutely charming, and we stayed put most of the time. We ventured to Lucca for a day trip, and it was lovely.
Nearby Events or Locales:
It was a huge advantage especially with children to be in a village, so we could walk to and from dinner and did not need our car on a daily basis. It's quite a drive to get to the village, up a mountain with switchbacks and narrow roads, so it's not great for those uncomfortable driving!
Tips or Restaurants:
With a baby, we recommend a play pen to use downstairs, since there are tiled stairs from room to room. Also, the high chair has no straps - it's just a high chair, literally, so a booster or attachable seat or portable high chair is helpful. The restaurants in the village were charming and good food. A random find is the campsite in town-there is a restaurant with excellent pizza.
Directions:
As I said before, it is important to prepare people for the drive up to the village. It is quite curvy and narrow, but oh so beautiful!
Check In Out:
Nora was lovely, charming and helpful.
