Customer Reviews

Overall:
Enjoyed location due to plenty of hiking opportunities with our dog. The property is fine for two people or perhaps a small family. Wouldn't recommend it for two couples.
Enjoyed Most:
Seclusion, great views, and the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Living room lacked comfortable seating for two people, especially on a rainy day. In that case one gets the couch, the other the bench or a bed to read. When the weather is good, the property is very enjoyable!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castelmuzio is within a few minutes drive with one place for drinks and dining. We'd highly recommend driving.
Tips or Restaurants:
Montisi, within 3 miles from Castelmuzio, has three restaurants with good food, service, and reasonable prices. Wine and grappa are excellent. Pienza and Montepulciano should be visited.
Directions:
We are quite often in Tuscany (from Switzerland) and have no problem with directions or addresses. A map of Tuscany will do and a few words with locals (Google translator) help with the final stretch.

Overall:
A Tuscan holiday for us is one where easy pace, quiet, and beauty dominate. Casa Plebana more than met these criteria. Marco and Paula were perfect hosts, the location could not be surpassed, the proximity to hill towns was perfect, and the farmhouse itself (inside and out) was highly liveable.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, quality of the farmhouse, comfort of the beds, good shower, and good kitchen. It's just a great private farmhouse with minimal deficiencies.
Enjoyed Least:
A big table dominates the sitting space and the benches become uncomfortable over time. There is also a couch but it has sparse lighting for reading. This is clearly an outdoor living space location. We were there when it rained and was still cool much of the time.
Surrounding Area:
Its one of the most beautiful areas on the earth! It's 5 minutes from the farmhouse to the road, then 2 minutes to Castelmuzio, 5 minutes to Montisi, 10 to Trequanda, 20 to Pienza, and 30 to Montalcino. The roads are good, the scenery is incredible, and the places to visit in these towns are plentiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castelmuzio was the closest town but it's not walkable. Montisi was also nearby (the turnoff for the farmhouse was between both towns).
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved Trattoria dei Barbi below Montalcino. We ate dinner at the farmhouse and ate lunch out while touring. There is a good Coop in Castelmuzio for staples and supplies. We brought TP, paper towels, etc. but didn't need them. Salt, sugar, and desired spices in plastic bags are a good idea since they could or could not be in the house. We brought coffee as we got in late and on a Saturday; we knew we would want coffee before starting out.
Directions:
Marco will come meet you when you exit the autostrada. Very helpful. We could not have found it without him.

Overall:
A very peaceful and relaxing holiday in the middle of the most beautiful countryside with many historic towns and villages within easy reach.
Enjoyed Most:
The location. Fantastic views - splendid isolation!
Enjoyed Least:
The living area was pretty "spartan" with just the one long table and benches and a two-seater sofa.
Surrounding Area:
Fantastic mediaeval towns and villages, many perched on hilltops. Very good wine in Montepulciano and Montalcino. The town of Pienza is a gem.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castelmuzio is around 2 km away but not easy to walk to.
Tips or Restaurants:
Go and eat on the terrace at Il Chiostro Di Pienza in the town of Pienza. Not cheap but wonderful food, excellent laid back service, and a view to die for.
Directions:
The directions were good as far as Castelmuzio. We would not have found the villa unless we had been met by the key holder. The villa is 1.6 km off the road down a very rough track which appears to be heading nowhere! Sounds weird but it's actually part of the charm!
Check In Out:
When calling the key holder to arrange to meet it was a little worrying to hear the words "no English". With a little perseverance, we managed to work out a plan.

Overall:
We loved the Casa Plebana - Mauro and his wife were wonderful and so attentive - the meal they cooked was also wonderful. We felt we could call him at anytime, which we did not have to do, but he made us feel so much at home.
Enjoyed Most:
The building itself was very Tuscan and just what we were looking for. The view was typical Toscana, quiet, and a friendly couple across the road from us.
Enjoyed Least:
The road getting to the Casa was a challenge in certain areas, but we got used to it. It was a typical Strada Bianca (unpaved road). We loved the village of Castelmuzio and the people. They made us feel welcome.
Surrounding Area:
We toured the whole area for a week and enjoyed very minute of it. I had been there before, but my daughter had not, and she really enjoyed the whole trip and especially the Casa and the Toscana area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We mostly drove to Castelmuzio.
Tips or Restaurants:
We took in a few basic groceries, like cheese, meat, wine, water. Had to add to the paper towels and toilet paper - but all in all we had about everything we needed right there. Great restaurant in Castelmuzio - only one there - but really authentic Tuscan and the people made us feel like family. Future renters might want to do some Italian language study as most residents in the area spoke very little English. We did not have a big problem with this because I read and speak some Italian. We rented a car, and being familiar with the different road signs and what they mean is very important.
Directions:
We were already in Castelmuzio area so I called the keyholder on my cell and we met there in Castelmuzio and followed him to the Casa. We did not have a GPS - we did it the "old fashion way" - MAPS.....and we did very well all over Italy with them.
Check In Out:
Check in went very well - Mauro spoke very little English, but no problem there. Check out went very well also.

Overall:
The property was just as expected - a wonderful, authentically Tuscan, peaceful retreat with a fantastic location.
Enjoyed Most:
The location in the hills of Tuscany, and close to many of the nicest parts - villages of the Sienese Crete area.
Enjoyed Least:
The 2 bedrooms have a very thin wall between them - so there is not much privacy at all.
Surrounding Area:
Very peaceful, rural, unspoilt and not too touristed.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castelmuzio was not a very viable walk - we had planned to walk there each day, but involved a lot of uphill walking with not too much good scenery to compensate.
Tips or Restaurants:
It is ideal for a family with 2 children - but I wouldn't go as 2 couples, as we did. There is a good restaurant right near the turnoff to the villa off the main road leading through Castelmuzio.
Directions:
A signposted name at the villa would be helpful, since we only knew we had arrived by recognising it from photos on your website.
