Customer Reviews

Overall:
Our expectations were exceeded. We rented the villa for the month of October 2015. The property manager, is a master of customer service and charm.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa is very spacious, the grounds are well landscaped and excellently maintained and a pleasure to walk through and explore. Even in early October the swimming pools were enjoyed. Each of the 11 bedrooms has its unique charm and private bathroom. It was a joy to prepare meals in the excellent, commercial grade kitchen.
Enjoyed Least:
On occasion the three remote controls available to open the main gate were inadequate in part due to our request to leave the walk-in gate locked.
Surrounding Area:
The most enjoyable way to explore Tuscany is by car. The villa manager, offered many suggestions and provided additional information on specific locations we wanted to visit. The picturesque Tuscan hills consist of vineyards, olive groves, agricultural fields and the famous Chianina cattle. Day trips were made to many historic communities - Cortona, Montepulciano, Pienza, Assisi, Siena, and San Gimignano - were some of our favourite locations.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Il Casale Del Marchese is located at the top of a hill a short 15 minute walk from Bettolle. Sinalunga can be reached by car within 10 minutes.
Tips or Restaurants:
The property manager, provides excellent service in assisting guests. The pizza party he organized was fantastic - using the on-site outdoor wood fired pizza oven. We had him cater our 40th anniversary dinner and what a memorable evening that was. We also went on a wine tour to the Santa Giulia winery in Montalcino. It was fantastic. Being from Alberta, Canada we wanted to compare Alberta beef to the famous Italian Chianina Florentine steak. We visited the La Toraia restaurant located on a farm outside of Sinalunga. The atmosphere (a converted brick barn), service and meal were worth a second visit.
Directions:
Google maps provides excellent results when the search is for il Casale Del Marchese. Our GPS also provided similar results.
Check In Out:
When you arrive give the manager a call. He will either remotely open the gate or be there to welcome you. Do not attempt to arrive early. When checking out there was sadness realizing our stay had come to its inevitable end.

Alice, October

Overall:
Amazing.
Enjoyed Most:
The space was great for families with young kids.
Enjoyed Least:
The buzzer system to get in.
Surrounding Area:
Proximity to other towns, grocery store, markets, train station, hiking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Betolle. Yes, it's walkable.

Cheryl, October

Overall:
Absolutely magical.
Enjoyed Most:
Space, gardens, rooms, owner.
Enjoyed Least:
Not having enough gate keys.
Surrounding Area:
Very beautiful with lots of activities in surrounding area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Betolle; yes--although there was no pathway, just walking on roadway.
Tips or Restaurants:
Restaurant La Toraia

Stephanie, October

Overall:
Ideal for our family reunion.
Enjoyed Most:
We rented the whole property and felt right at home - lots of inside and outside places to explore and relax at, eat and visit.
Enjoyed Least:
The directions were not very easy to follow, and the nearest train station was not very well serviced so we ended up driving to most destinations.
Surrounding Area:
The natural hot springs, and the general simplicity of the non-major tourist destinations
Nearby Events or Locales:
Betolle - yes, one could walk there easily.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is an amazing Chianina restaurant near Sinalunga--La Toraia
Directions:
We had a GPS, however it was difficult to follow when arriving at night since the streets are not very well lighted. One of our friends visiting stopped at a local pub and a visitor led them the whole way to the villa because they knew the landlord.

Carollyn, October

Overall:
We had a fantastic time at Villa Ponte. It was everything we hoped it would be. So picturesque, great accommodations, gracious host, food was amazing, what more could we ask for?
Enjoyed Most:
Gianluca was a fantastic host. There when you needed him and invisible when you didn't.
Enjoyed Least:
A little hard to find but not much to pick on.
Surrounding Area:
We loved taking small day trips to the neighboring towns of Pienza, Cortona and Montepulciano to name a few.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Betolle. No it was a short 5 min drive away.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring your bathing suits. We found one neat restaurant in Betolle called Walter's.
Directions:
Use the GPS coordinates to find it. Gianluca actually met us and helped us drive to the property.
Check In Out:
Very easy and well understood.

Jeff, August

Overall:
This is an excellent villa for a large group. We had 22 people and there was plenty of room. It is beautifully and comfortably furnished. Modern amenities but decorated with old world Italian flavor. Antique furnishings and frescos on the walls. Gianluca is a warm and inviting host. He is very helpful and always there if you need him. I hope to return some day and would.
Enjoyed Most:
It is beautiful and comfortable. After and between our day trips and it was lovely to come back to such a beautiful, calm place. The pool was a big plus and we used it everyday. The living spaces are separated in such a way that there is privacy when wanted.
Enjoyed Least:
I liked everything. It would, however, have been valuable to know the following in advance: 1. The outdoor grill and pizza oven can not be used except by the owner at a rather large fee. We had hoped to grill. 2.There is not any laundry facilities per se. Gianlucca will pick and return laundry at a cost. Not what we expected as many of us were traveling before the villa and planned on washing clothes. 3. It is important to have cars here. The Sinalunga train does not go everywhere and Cortona train station is a drive. Editor's Note: The owner confirms the following as of September, 2015: There is a washing machine (and ironing board); laundry is an extra cost. The BBQ is also available for guest's use; fee for use is 50 Euros.
Surrounding Area:
We made day and half day trips throughout Tuscany and Umbria. Wonderful hill towns and beautiful scenery. There are many places with in 30 minutes to 1 hour trips. We went to Assisi, Cortona, the jazz festival in Perugia, Siena, Orvieto and Civita and more. All amazing and inspiring places.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The town is not on walking distance. 3 minute drive. (It is important to have cars at this villa.) The town is a tiny delight. A pizza place, 4 euros per pizza, take out available. Gelato shop and a coffee bar. All wonderful. About 5 minute drive is large markets which are open every day.
Tips or Restaurants:
It is not necessary to stress about hitting a market before you arrive at the villa. There is TP and some spices there. The markets, LIDL, for example are open long hours. Pool towels are provided; you'll find them in the bathroom next to the pool. WiFi is good. GPS is necessary. The main kitchen is cleaned on the weekday mornings.
Directions:
A GPS is important. I would not go without it.
Check In Out:
Check in was very long for tired travelers. It is a big place and much to see. Check out went well.

Michele, July

Overall:
The property and Gianluca exceeded the rather high expectations I had set based upon the RentVillas summary and photos. It was one of (if not the) best travel experiences I and most of my guests had. Gianluca was the perfect property manager in that he was there when we wanted/needed him and was absent when we didn't. He was full of advice and insights and truly loves what he does, excels beyond compare and is charming and extremely helpful. I could not recommend a nicer property or property manager and, although expensive, made the trip for all of us.
Enjoyed Most:
The property itself was stunningly beautiful with every detail attended to. The rooms were wonderfully appointed, comfortable and homey. Probably the best aspect of the property was the large swimming pool, rec/bar area which became a focal point for everyone at about 4:00 PM after a day spent touring Tuscany. This was warm, inviting and provided the perfect setting to relax, decompress and enjoy the sunset after a day of touring.
Surrounding Area:
The property was centrally located and near some great towns, particularly Cortona. The property was located near a road that pretty much connected you with every main road in Tuscany such that every place was easily accessible. We spent a lot of time during the day visiting local towns and villages throughout Tuscany and the Villa's location certainly made that easier.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Betolle or Sinalunga was probably the closest town and was within walking distance. However, that said, other than some runners in the group that ran there in the early morning, we did not spend that much time in either town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Not really. I opted to provide breakfast for everybody every day which was great because it served as a natural gathering time for people to plan the day. We only did 2 dinners at the Villa and it probably would have been better to have done 1 or 2 more as the food was terrific and after a long day of touring some people didn't want to go out again in search of a restaurant. Gianluca had some great restaurant recommendations and was always more than willing to make reservations for us. He was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable without the least hint of an agenda other than making sure we (his guests) were well taken care of.
Directions:
I used my google maps which took me right to the property. Nobody in our party had any difficulty finding the property as it was located near a main road and the directions were spot on.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out process were very simple and straight forward.

Bruce , July

Overall:
It was one of the nicest places I have been in my entire life.
Enjoyed Most:
It was incredibly well-kept, clean, and landscaped. Quite simply, magnificent
Surrounding Area:
It was close to a town so that bringing things in from the grocery store was easy. It was located near two major thoroughfares so that getting to surrounding areas was easy. It was up on a beautiful hill.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Betolle--yes, it's walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a great restaurant nearby that the proprietor can provide directions to.
Directions:
I did not need to use the GPS. The directions were fine.
Check In Out:
Very straightforward.

Marc, July

Overall:
Everyone had a wonderful time. It was the perfect place to gather with friends and family. Gianluca the owner/manager is a gem--so friendly and accommodating. He was helpful with every aspect of our stay.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds - the pool - the fact that we could have the whole place to ourselves. The privacy was appreciated - trees and bushes surround the villa - people had the opportunity to find quiet retreats on the grounds as well.
Enjoyed Least:
Although it is a beautiful location - it is somewhat remote - having a car is a must.
Surrounding Area:
Within a short drive there are many beautiful towns and wineries and experiences. Tuscany is beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bettolle was within walking distance. Several guests walked to town for groceries and shopping.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring pool towels. Bring wireless speakers for music on the grounds if you desire. There are no laundry facilities at the villa - but the owner will provide laundry service if you need it. Alternatively the town of Bettolle has a laundromat.
Directions:
No GPS used- directions were good - but we looked it up on Google maps satellite and had a good idea on its location prior to arriving. It would be good to understand how to get there using the train and bus services - it wasn't clear how to use these modes of transportation. We were under the impression there might be taxis available - but there were not.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out was smooth - allow time for both as check in includes a tour of the villa and instructions for use of the facilities.

Marilyn, June

Overall:
The villa was absolutely fantastic, exactly what we were looking for: modern with Tuscan charm, great location, and a fantastic chef!
Enjoyed Most:
The owner Gianluca was the best part of our Tuscan experience. He helped us with tours, transportation, a chef, live music, and nearby restaurant reservations for our group of 16! He was around only when you needed him and his pizza night near the pool was a highlight!
Enjoyed Least:
Only that we couldn't stay forever.
Surrounding Area:
It is a great location and Gianluca helped us acquire tours to nearby towns and wineries with pick up at the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bettolle is within walking distance but my favorite small nearby town was Lucignano. I highly recommend it!
Directions:
Have the villa arrange pick up at the airport for a fee...

Enjoyed Least:
Bathroom shower.
Surrounding Area:
The view from the property.
Nearby Events or Locales:

Overall:
I had the time of my life there. The host, Jean-Luc, was outstanding and the food was awesome.
Enjoyed Most:
The layout of the property and the host.
Enjoyed Least:
Small showers.
Surrounding Area:
The view, the people and the communicating roadways.
Tips or Restaurants:
I've already recommended this villa to an associate but in terms of recommendations next time we'll pack less clothing.
Check In Out:
Very smooth and without incident.

James, October

Overall:
Awesome, could not be better.
Enjoyed Most:
Classy and clean.
Enjoyed Least:
Showers could be a little larger and would have enjoyed a laundry facilit.y
Surrounding Area:
The beauty and the friendly people.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely bring voltage converters and bring your own toiletries.
Directions:
Make sure renters know it is a gated property.

Cheryl, October

Overall:
It was the most beautiful and comfortable place we have ever stayed! There were 20 of us--18 at the top. Some left early, some came late. We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable and warm environment.
Enjoyed Most:
The managers, Gianluca and Lucy. They were so attentive and helpful. They even served those with dietary "differences" something DELICIOUS just for them!
Surrounding Area:
We took lots of trips to the surrounding towns. Most took less than an hour to get to them. The site was just so convenient.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bettolle--it was within walking distance, but we never walked. Some rode bicycles to it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Gianluca had fabulous suggestions for restaurants and made special reservations for us since we were such a large group. One night he led us to an Irish Pub in the next town. There we were in an Irish Pub in Italy drinking Scottish beer, watching the USA play Germany in Brazil! Fun. Take a big bar of soap- they give you those little bars like at a hotel.
Directions:
GPS directions were better.
Check In Out:
Nope, smooth as silk.

Marcia M, June

Overall:
The property was incredible and the food was even better. The manager/owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We had a medical emergency during our visit and he was with us the whole timing assisting, translating, and make sure that we were well cared for as if he was a member of the family.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything. We celebrated my husband's 50th birthday with several family members. The villa was breathtaking and the owner prepared a fabulous dinner for the celebration.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
There were many cities to visit. The owner helped us to plan several sightseeing trips based upon our desires. It was an incredible trip.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ask the owner for restaurant recommendations. We were a large group, 17, and he helped get us reservations, etc, at wonderful restaurants or just helped us get pizza if that was what we wanted.
Directions:
GPS could not locate the property, but call the owner and he will give you specific directions or come get you and lead you to the villa.
Check In Out:
Wonderful and easy.

Dene, June

Overall:
The accommodations, scenery and service were the best I've experienced and I have traveled a lot!! Our host and his family went above and beyond the highest expectations. I would highly recommend this villa to anyone. We had family from 13 to 70 and ALL were happy!!
Enjoyed Most:
The villa itself beautifully and tastefully decorated with style and comfort; there was nothing missing for a relaxing week, even meals upon request--which really came in handy several times.
Surrounding Area:
Quaintness--real flavor of Italy. Bettolle is the nearest town.

Judi, June

Overall:
Fantastic stay! The owner made us feel very welcome and was there when needed and not at all intrusive. He offered advice on places to visit, ideas about dining on the property or in local areas.
Enjoyed Most:
Clean, quiet and the views were stunning...it was everything the web site showed and then some on top of that.
Enjoyed Least:
A fridge by the pool area would have been nice to save the walk up and down to the house...but I was so relaxed I needed the excercise! Pool towels would have been nice.
Surrounding Area:
The little villages were fascinating with just the right balance of Authentic Italy and tourist shops available.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Bettole and yes, it was within walking distance...about a 35- 40 minute walk. Reasonable-sized village with shopping available for food and drink!
Tips or Restaurants:
The house only supplies a few towels per room....more can be had at an extra charge. Same with AC...it is available, but 100 Euro per day for the whole Villa. We did without and really we weren't too hot. The owner organized a pizza party for us on the brick pizza oven by the pool. It is 25 Euro's per head....sounds expensive for pizza but you get jugs of wine with it and the Pizza is AMAZING!! He keeps cooking until you explode. It was the highlight of our holiday there.
Check In Out:
Fantastic welcome and tour of the property... The owner is a showman. Made the start of the holiday very special.
