Monica, September

Overall:
Our experience at Villa San Paolo was relaxing, comfortable, magical and breathtakingly beautiful.
Enjoyed Most:
The location, the view, and the peacefulness. The spaciousness, antique furniture and art throughout the villa.
Enjoyed Least:
The pots, pans, baking and serving dishes were somewhat limited in the kitchen. This was a minor issue and we made it work with what was there.
Surrounding Area:
The rural, agricultural nature of this location and the nearness of the cities we were able to visit on day trips from the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was charming with a Tuesday market in the Piazza. It was a short ride to town, but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The local Pizzaria, Osteria del Tempo Perso, "Wasted Time Tavern," was excellent with beautiful views dining on the outdoor deck.
Check In Out:
Our hosts, Ida and Renatto, were very charming and helpful during our stay. Ida saved us by connecting us to a local dentist in Florence when one in our party needed emergency care.

Celia, September

Overall:
Property was exquisite! Villa was extraordinary furnished, comfortable, impeccably clean.
Enjoyed Most:
The property of the villa was beautifully manicured, lovely to stroll around. Pool was a nice asset. The villa was very comfortable. Nice linens, plenty of nice towels - all of the comforts of home! The kitchen table was able to accommodate our entire group of nine.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was not well equipped for cooking. If the residence sleeps ten, there should be ten of all eating plates, bowls, silverware in addition to serving bowls and utensils. It would have been nice to have ten coffee mugs in addition to china tea cups. It was also lacking in some basic cooking and measuring utensils. Editor's Note: Following each guests' departure the owner inventories the kitchen equipment to ensure there's enough for 10 people. Replacements are made as needed. October, 2016.
Surrounding Area:
Location was excellent for making day trips in various directions. Lots to do!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Montespertoli and it is not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The property owners live on the property. They are very hospitable and welcoming, and very available for answering questions, making recommendations and reservations, etc. Very important note - the internet is not reliable. Don't depend on it working all of the time, or working well!
Directions:
We used a GPS and had no problem finding the property.
Check In Out:
Since the owners live on the property, both processes were exceptionally easy.

Sandra, September

Overall:
Beautiful location, villa, and grounds all carefully maintained. Pool and outside eating areas were a pleasure. Having the owners in a private wing of the villa was a real plus. They were invisible except when they could be helpful and then they magically appeared. Great restaurant suggestions
Enjoyed Most:
Everything
Surrounding Area:
Natural beauty. The nearest town, Montespertoli, is a market town, not a tourist place. Well located between Florence and Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli is a five minute drive, a long walk, not recommended.
Tips or Restaurants:
Villa was better equipped than expected, but would get there in time to shop in Montespertoli the first day. Great restaurant in tiny village about 20 minutes away. Owner can tell you the name.
Directions:
Need a GPS, then no problem.

Jerold, June

Overall:
Outstanding experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was wonderful. Made us want to stay and enjoy the villa.
Enjoyed Least:
I guess the TV, but why watch TV when visiting another country?!
Surrounding Area:
Amazing view, pool and grill. Loved going into surrounding towns for a more authentic experience.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was about 4 km away or so. Walkable for me, but people do drive fairly aggressively on those small roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ristorante Il Focolare Via Volterrana, 175, 50025 Montespertoli FI, Italy. Recommended by our host, and was my favorite meal of the trip.
Directions:
Brought our own GPS.

James, June

Overall:
We had an outstanding experience. The villa was even better than the photos indicated, the view was amazing, and Ida and Renato were lovely hosts.
Enjoyed Most:
We had a party of eight so the fact that there were so many living areas -- inside and out -- meant that there was plenty of room for people to gather or to get away from each other. I also liked the way the villa was furnished. Sleeping in a 17th century bed certainly added some authenticity to the experience!
Enjoyed Least:
A slightly larger coffee pot would have been good but otherwise I have no complaints at all about the property
Surrounding Area:
Montespertoli is an unpretentious little market town, not a big tourist spot, and that was actually a plus as it meant you weren't dealing with tourist parking, crowds etc every time you went in to shop.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monterspertoli is not really in walking distance but it is a short drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a great pasticceria in the main square of Montespertoli, and the local restaurant in Giglia has a terrace with the most amazing views. The restaurants close by were nothing special, but we mainly ate at home so we didn't try everything in the area.
Directions:
I would recommend using Google Earth to get a good look at the road and the property. I did that, and had no difficulty in finding the property as a result.
Check In Out:
No, that was all fine.

Graeme, October

Overall:
The property is absolutely first-rate. The host and hostess we're charming, extremely helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
It had everything we could have wanted and more. Lovely antique furniture, beautiful rooms, outstanding views, magnificent landscaping, great swimming pool for adults and kids, outdoor grill and eating area, area for cocktails.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing not to like about the property.

Richard, July

Overall:
Wonderful experience. Very peaceful surroundings. Great escape after sightseeing all day.
Enjoyed Most:
Pool, view, quiet surroundings.
Enjoyed Least:
Washer was very old, slow, and did not spin clothes. Kitchen could use sharp knives.
Surrounding Area:
Easy to get to Coop for groceries. Excellent bakery, restaurants nearby.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli. Not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Good pizzeria very close.
Directions:
We used a GPS and I printed out Mapquest directions.
Check In Out:
Easy check in-check out. Owners could not have been nicer or more accommodating. They set up a wine tasting for our group that was wonderful.

Sandy, May

Overall:
Fantastic! The villa was even better than it looked on the Web site. The owners have decorated it very well, and take outstanding care of both the interior and the grounds. The views were magnificent and the location is perfect for day trips.
Enjoyed Most:
Location. Clean, comfortable and well-decorated rooms. Very gracious and helpful hostess (lots of tips regarding restaurants, wineries, directions, etc.)
Enjoyed Least:
Spotty wireless service and the kitchen could use a larger coffeemaker and more bowls/utensils.
Surrounding Area:
Breathtaking views. There is a winery close by and the Coop at Montespertoli was very useful for grocery trips. There is convenient access for day-trips to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and even Pisa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli is about a 10-minute drive not walkable. It has a charming piazza and several good restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
A large coffeemaker; plug-in anti-mosquito devices; more wine than you think you'll need! Great dinner at Il Focatore in Montagnana (15 mins away)
Directions:
The villa is actually outside the town of Montespertoli, on the road to Gigliola. GPS is essential!
Check In Out:
Seamless and efficient.

Sameer , September

Overall:
After 19 fabulous days in Italy - 14 of them at Villa San Paolo - we just returned home. All in all a great experience! The Villa was completely as advertised and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. From dealing with Rentvillas for the rental to the dinner cooked at the Villa that you arranged with Giuseppina and Simone, to our welcome and stay at the Villa, it couldn't have been better. Thanks for all your help.
Enjoyed Most:
Ida and Renato were great hosts. After a warm welcome to the immaculate Villa - and Ida's careful explanation of how to take care of her kitchen floors and counter tops - they, for all practical purposes, disappeared, except for when we requested restaurant recommendations, local sights, etc., all of which were provided graciously. And as a special treat, Renato prepared and Ida served my wife and daughter a light lunch - with homemade wine - one afternoon while the rest of us were at the laundry.
Enjoyed Least:
My only regret is that with so many places to re-visit and new ones to explore we didn't get to spend much time just relaxing and taking advantage of the amenities of the Villa.

Michael, September

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. The villa had spectacular views, gracious hosts, and a great outdoor area to enjoy. The small village was also a great Tuscan town experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool during the hot afternoons. The views from the back yard. The fresh fruits and vegetables in the yard.
Enjoyed Least:
Not all the rooms were air conditioned.
Surrounding Area:
The local town had concerts at night, little cafes and shops, and we could visit all the towns we wanted to see in the Tuscany area within a short drive.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was too far to walk, but we enjoyed the quiet area to return home to.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ida recommended a restaurant in the nearby town that we actually made a second trip back to because we enjoyed it so much. Get out early in the morning, see the local towns, return around lunch to the villa and spend the afternoon enjoying the property and the pool, then go out for the evening. This is the way the locals live as everything shuts down in the early afternoon and it works perfectly.
Directions:
I used GPS, but it did take a minute to find the opening to the driveway, but no problem otherwise.

Joseph, August

Overall:
The location is wonderful and the house is great. It's a perfect spot to enjoy time with family quietly at the house or visit historic cities.
Enjoyed Most:
The outdoor area is superb and the house is very well-decorated. We love to cook so it was important to have a good kitchen and an outside eating area with a fully-equipped BBQ.
Enjoyed Least:
You can hear some noise from the working farms nearby.
Surrounding Area:
It is a great location with easy access to various cities such as Florence, Siena, Pisa, and Lucca.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli is the nearest town and is within walking distance.

Suzana, July

Overall:
Fabulous! The villa is beautiful and the surroundings, view and overall ambience are spectacular!
Enjoyed Most:
There are so many things I liked but I think the amazing views, no matter what direction, were my favorite. The beautiful antique furniture was lovely and the kitchen was large and very well equipped. I fell in love with Renato and Ida. They were so gracious and helped us with every need.
Enjoyed Least:
There are two rather steep steps, with no railing, leading into the kitchen from the living room. I have difficulty with stairs and had a hard time going in and out of the kitchen.
Surrounding Area:
Again, the views were the best. I liked being close to town and having a grocery store and bakeries nearby.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was about 3km from the villa. It was an easy bike ride and walkable in a pinch.
Tips or Restaurants:
It would be wise to let renters know about the steps with no railings into the kitchen and bathrooms on the first floor. Also bike rental is a good idea for fun and easy access to town.
Directions:
We did use a GPS which is the best decision we made. Without it the winding roads of Chianti would be difficult to navigate.
Check In Out:
The process went very smoothly.

Karen, June

Overall:
We enjoyed the property and would not hesitate to go back.
Enjoyed Most:
The entire villa and property were very comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing we did not like.
Surrounding Area:
There was so much to see in the area. Most towns were about 1 hour away.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The town of Montespertoli was closest, but not in walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
There was no American coffee pot, if that is an issue. The owner was very accommodating if you needed anything. We did not eat locally, but all the surrounding areas had great restaurants. Ask the owner to have dinner prepared. We did and it was excellent. We had dinner prepared the last night we were there and wished we had it sooner, because we would have done it again.

Maria, September

Overall:
It was a wonderful experience. We had rental cars and took a day trip each day all about 1 hour villa-to-location. Did not get lost due to GPS systems in the cars and were able to enjoy the magnificent countryside.
Enjoyed Most:
I thought the outside area was beautifully maintained, comfortable and relaxing. The pool area was a treat after returning late afternoons from various surrounding towns. The grounds in general were lovely with beautiful views. The website photos did not do justice to the exterior of the house, it was much more attractive.
Enjoyed Least:
I was pleased with the property on the whole, everything in working order and comfortable. However, would have preferred a more casual and larger living room area on the ground floor which is where the TV was located and 10 of us gathered in the evening. I would, however, recommend the property.
Surrounding Area:
We visited San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, a winery and Florence and particularly loved the interesting walled towns. I felt the villa location was convenient so that our day trips were no more than an hour away.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was the nearest town - it was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
A few restaurants were recommended by the keyholder and were fine. Our lunches were generally in the visited towns and the food was good everywhere. The Coop supermarket was a few miles away and various staples could be picked up there. II would suggest that it be taken care of the day of arrival as stores are closed on Sundays. The house was supplied with toilet paper, soap, kitchen soaps, spices plenty of towels which were replaced during the week.
Directions:
We had two 5 passenger cars equipped with GPS and had no problem getting to the property Pisa airport to villa or to other destinations. HIGHLY recommend using GPS - never got lost.
Check In Out:
It was very easy. The keyholders warmly greeted us and walked us through the rooms with explanations, etc. They were very friendly and accommodating going out of their way to help .
