Customer Reviews

Enjoyed Most:
The view of the hills, grape orchard, and olive trees.
Enjoyed Least:
A bit rustic. Kitchen poorly equipped. Upon check in, no one was there, had to wait for a maid to come and check us in. Upon check out, no one was there, had to leave the keys in the house.
Surrounding Area:
The view was very pretty. We saw people cutting the grapes, and putting them in the carriers.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You would need a car to get anywhere, as it was a couple of miles to the nearest grocery, or to get back to Siena.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be sure you want to be out of the city. Bring some bug spray.

Enjoyed Most:
The view, the pool, the serenity. Also, the villa was exactly what I expected--it was described very well in the on-line information.
Enjoyed Least:
The unappealing box-like exterior of the villa. Which ceased to bother us after the first five minutes. Also, the driveway leading into the property is rutted--a real bone-rattler--but again, minor in light of the joys of the place.
Surrounding Area:
The fact that there were many little towns to visit. The meandering roads through gorgeous scenery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Costafabbri. It was within walking distance, but you'd be taking your life in your hands, given how curvy and narrow the roads were.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa was very, very comfortable, but I found the pillows uncomfortable. I'm a down-pillow devotee. It never occurred to me to ask the villa owner for replacements, but she was so accommodating, I'll bet she would have found some for us. Also, those things recommended on the website were good suggestions, but they do seem to have acquired a sharp knife and cutting board. Get a GPS for your car, and make sure you have a working cell phone.
Check In Out:
Property owner, Luisa, was there to greet us, and very helpful through the stay.

Judith, September

Overall:
We only wish that we could have spent more time at the villa and some day come back for 2 weeks so that we can soak up the Tuscan sun and enjoy the atmosphere.
Enjoyed Most:
The spectacular view that we woke up to each morning. We hated to leave for the day and some days we just lingered until the afternoon to enjoy the spectacular view.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing, we hope to return some day!
Surrounding Area:
The proximity of the two local restaurants which no matter how late into the evening, invited us in to dine. The food was excellent and very reasonable.
Tips or Restaurants:
Osteria Il Cantuccio in the little town of Costafabbri - Nilo, the owner was wonderful and prepared us an unforgettable dinner. Loved his homemade Limoncello! Also La Capanna Dei Cavalieri which was nearby had wonderful food for reasonable prices.
Directions:
We found it with no problems.
Check In Out:
Upon check in - check out was not too clear but no problem, we just locked the villa and turned our keys in to the owners.

Jeff, May

Enjoyed Most:
Private location with great vineyard views along with views of the surrounding Tuscan hills - all only a short distance to Siena, plus easy access to highway leading to the majority of Tuscany. Plenty of room for two couples. Had a wonderful two-week stay.
Enjoyed Least:
An electric outlet in kitchen would help, plus instructions on how to use the washing machine. Otherwise, nothing at all.
Surrounding Area:
Enjoyed every day in Tuscany - rain or shine. Could not have picked a better location to use as a base for our two-week stay. Siena is in the middle of everything worthwhile seeing in Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Hamlet near the villa, Costafabbri, wonderful. Great shop owners in the center. Very friendly and helpful. Would suggest having a car. A must for visiting all the surrounding Tuscan hill towns within an hour of Siena.
Tips or Restaurants:
Fly into Florence. New international airport makes getting into Tuscany a lot easier. Bring a GSM cell phone with you. Makes life a lot easier. Villa is remote.
Check In Out:
Owner could not have been any more accommodating.

Richard, October

Enjoyed Most:
Great view over the Tuscan hills. Quiet, separate from the other units. Well furnished.
Enjoyed Least:
Kitchen was poor, no electric outlet, had to put toaster on the floor in another room and the coffee maker in the living room. Silverware and dishes were in the living room.
Surrounding Area:
The highway was only 5 minutes, easy to get to surrounding towns.
Check In Out:
We were a bit early, wandered around the property until someone saw us.

Dane, September

Enjoyed Most:
The surroundings were beautiful. Views like a Tuscan postcard. The rooms were comfortable and nicely decorated. The pool was much nicer than we thought - large and very clean.
Enjoyed Least:
No one around to answer any questions.
Surrounding Area:
Right outside of Siena - we went into town several times just for the evening. Many hilltop towns around to explore.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Costafabbri was within walking distance with a market and trattoria.

Linda, July

Overall:
Large enough to be quite comfortable for two couples or a family of four.
Enjoyed Most:
Location in a vineyard, near Siena. Peace and quiet - beautiful Tuscany views.
Enjoyed Least:
Odd kitchen setup. Incomprehensible washing machine! Could use more information about the local area for shopping.
Surrounding Area:
Beatiful views, quiet, the delightful town of Siena
Nearby Events or Locales:
Costafabbri was about 3 km away down a steep hill and narrrow road not really walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
Buy a map of Siena from a bookstore first thing. When you go to Siena, park in the Il Campo lot on the south end of town. Restaurants we liked are Locanda, about a block off of Il Campo, and the restaurant on the far western side of the Campo.

Donald, June

Overall:
Owners were helpful and courteous. Enjoyed our stay!
Enjoyed Most:
The view was excellent....looking over the vineyards and into the beautiful forests.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was basic and all dishes, pots and pans, silverware, etc. were located in the living room. Rather cumbersome when preparing food and washing dishes.
Surrounding Area:
Great area to explore in all directions. Siena is very central to Tuscany and great for day trips to other areas.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Did some hiking to small villages. I would think in most cases people would use a car to get to villages due to distance. Difficult to walk or run on roads due to traffic.
Tips or Restaurants:
Home had all the necessary items. Restaurants were good or great, in general.
Directions:
Should mention to call ahead (bring a GSM cell phone with you) to contact before arriving in town for more detailed instructions and assistance. We did and it really helped in locating property.
Check In Out:
Easy entry and exit after stay.

Enjoyed Most:
Location, location, location. The property was lovely and very well located in relation to the highway and Siena. The pool was perfect for hot afternoons.
Enjoyed Least:
The lack of a ceiling or other fan in the bedrooms. Complaints are not major It was very hot while we were there, during the famous summer of 2003, so fans and window screens would have been nice. The kitchen had an ant problem, which we fixed by the liberal application of insecticide, but that is certainly not a big deal. The hot water heater would periodically shut off and have to be re-armed, but perhaps that is what is was supposed to do. We figured it out, but others may not. The television did not appear to work or we couldn't figure out how to make it work, but we didn't care. We don't watch television here, and had even less interest in Italian television.
Surrounding Area:
Rolling hills with long views over olive groves and vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I don't remember the name, but there is a tiny hamlet a short walk from the villa with a trattoria and small bar-alimentari with very nice meats and produce and friendly employees-owners.
Tips or Restaurants:
There was a jazz festival in Siena in the piazza il campo, free with excellent bands, including Dee Dee Bridgewater. Siena is a wonderful place to hang out in the evenings. Restaurantsl Pozzo in Montereggiano, Il Logge in Siena, but we found no bad food anywhere.

Overall:
Enough space for the 4 of us. Clean. Beautiful views. Glad to have the pool close but far enough away for privacy. Very private location. Good directions to the house. Someone was there to greet us and they spoke English!
Enjoyed Most:
Privacy. Quiet. Beautiful views. Had a washing machine. Good place for R & R. We liked not being right in Siena but it was a 15 minute drive and you were there. It would be difficult if you did not have a car. I'm not sure about the public transportation.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing. We wish we could have stayed longer.
Surrounding Area:
The peaceful countryside. The surrounding views of Siena. You could walk to the little market (20 min.) in Costafabbri and get most of what you need for meals. If not, you could take the car a bit further to Conad (market). Penny Saver isn't so hot. We would go there only if Conad didn't have what we needed. The Costafabbri market was the best.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena itself was great. Went to "Il Palio" horserace. Good resturants. Great gelato and pizza. El Campo is the main square and people are always enjoying the day or evening there - just hanging out. The bell tower has a great view (right there at El Campo). It is about 350 steps to the top. Very narrow in places. The Duomo was beautiful. Walking the streets was fun. Very safe there. The kids could have walked there alone in the evening.
Tips or Restaurants:
"Porto" on the washing machine means open. I didn't have my dictionary at first and it took me awhile to get the darned thing open. The symbol that looks like an electric stove burner (like a coil) and has an "X" through it means - NO SPIN! Buy Mueller vaniglia yogurt - it's fabulous! Beware of the tourist information centers - they are not open very often or for very long. Check the hours of operation closely. A resturant that we enjoyed was in Siena called "Taverna Rossi". Very authentic food and they have a pasta there that is only made in the area. I think it was called something like Pici. Don't handle the produce - store owners think that is rude. Go to the Costafabbri market - they are very nice and very helpful. Let's keep them in business!
