Customer Reviews

Overall:
I felt as if I was in a movie set...very scenic, peaceful and comfortable!
Enjoyed Most:
Everything. The villa is very charming, clean, and perfect size for the 6 of us. All worked out perfectly.
Surrounding Area:
Very calm way of life...you'd hear the rooster crowing and the farm tractor working in the distant field...it was welcomed noise for me.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda is the nearest town...you "could" walk it, but I wouldn't suggest it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Great restaurant in the town of Dudda...also a nice art gallery next door. As far as what to bring from the USA for this trip..? A good attitude, and looking forward to having a wonderful atmosphere.
Directions:
We used GPS and it was fine for getting us where we needed to go.
Check In Out:
Both check in and check out was fine!

Derek, June

Overall:
Our party thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The setting was beautiful, and the surroundings very peaceful. Daytime temperatures exceeded 85 F, but the house remained cool for sleeping. We loved the pool. The sense of solitude was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
Without a doubt, given the temperatures, we loved the pool. The water was a perfect temperature - nice and cool under the hot sun.
Enjoyed Least:
The two living rooms could have used a couple of comfortable chairs.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the panoramic views from the villa of nearby vineyards, villas, and the surrounding mountains.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda - the youngest of our party was 55, the oldest was 67. For folks our age, walking might have been possible but pretty challenging. The ascent to Dudda on RT.16, and the ascent back up the road towards Lucolena would have required significant energy. Also the roads are pretty narrow, raising safety concerns.
Tips or Restaurants:
Driving a car on the roads requires concentration - there are autos, trucks, motorcycles, bicyclists, and walkers all vying for space on narrow , windy roads. We ate at a great restaurant at the Villa Palagina, about 6 kilometers east of our villa on Rt.16. Tremendous view, and great food.
Directions:
We used a GPS and I am glad we had it. It brought us right to the lane into the villa.
Check In Out:
Our hosts were wonderful. Due to heavy traffic, we arrived late as we drove in from Milan. We called Leonardo, and he made arrangements for someone to be there when we arrived. He was also very helpful and and had lots of suggestions that enhanced the quality of our visit.

John, June

Overall:
Magical! One of the most peaceful, beautiful places I have ever traveled to !
Enjoyed Most:
There was nothing to dislike!!!! Everything was delightful and extraordinary beautiful...the views, the villa, the surrounding towns.....outstanding!
Surrounding Area:
Feeling like I was living in Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Duda or Lucalena were the closest towns. Yes, you could have walked to either one.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought basics like some condiments etc., but everything else was taken care of. The restaurant in Duda was very good and very reasonable. We also went to the resort Pallagina which had an outstanding restaurant.
Directions:
You must have a GPS!!!! Yes we did use one.
Check In Out:
Leonardo was extremely accommodating.

Geri, June

Overall:
Our overall experience was wonderful from start to finish. We had an incredible time and are so pleased with our decision to stay at Villa Antonietta. We quickly felt right at home and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Next time we'll stay for TWO weeks!!
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the layout of the house, the grounds, the pool, the views and the peaceful surroundings. Sitting around the kitchen table or pool-side table well into the night enjoying some wine and chatting about our day in Tuscany was sublime.
Enjoyed Least:
We truly enjoyed everything. We fully understood when we rented that these items were not provided... but it would have been helpful to have the kitchen was stocked with basic essentials (trash bags, dish detergent, salt, pepper, olive oil, sugar, etc.).
Surrounding Area:
The villa is a great location for day trips throughout Tuscany. Greve has a wonderful main piazza with small shops, restaurants, and a butcher. There's a monument in the center of the navigator Giovanni da Verrazzano, and the family estate is short drive away. The Verrazzano Winery is a must see, taste and eat! We even went back for dinner one night, which was a highlight of our trip. The train station in Figline Valdarno is very convenient. Its a quick trip to Florence, and we even travelled by train to Venice for a day trip. Our favorite stop for pastries was Le Delizie Pasticceria Napoletana in Figline Valdarno. Head down the hill for your pastry early in the morning and you'll see the clouds hanging in the mountain tops as you glance out over the vineyards. What's not to love?
Nearby Events or Locales:
We opted not to venture out on foot to the local towns, but you do pass folks walking along the roads. We did enjoy walking the property.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely take advantage of Leonardo's wine tasting/tour. The history and stories of the property will make you appreciate it even more! Hire a chef at least once and enjoy the local cuisine prepared just for you in your villa. We also had a wonderful meal at the hilltop restaurant Il Ristoro di Lamole. And as mentioned earlier, visit the Verrazzano Winery, too.
Directions:
Directions were great and yes, we did use GPS.
Check In Out:
It was perfect. Leonardo was fantastic and very accommodating.

Jane, May

Overall:
Very enjoyable.
Enjoyed Most:
Convenient location for day trips around Tuscany
Enjoyed Least:
Some things in need of attention. Fridge in kitchen, faucet in kitchen, and front door latch. Editor's Note: All necessary repairs have been made to the refrigerator, faucet, and front door. April, 2015
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful scenery, access to many good restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. Not really that safe for walking.
Tips or Restaurants:
New Lidle Supermarket in Figline, excellent for all supplies
Directions:
Good directions, we did not use a GPS.
Check In Out:
No improvements required.

Eileen, October

Overall:
Our family of 7 adults and a baby had the most wonderful time. The villa was amazing and in particular the kitchen dining area and the outside dining and pool area were fantastic The bedrooms and living areas were large and beautifully decorated Located in a quiet part of the chianti hills the villa was still within easy reach to Siena, Greve, Montefiorelle and other wonderful towns along very scenic and at times quite winding roads. The full TuscanyChianti experience
Enjoyed Most:
The property was beautifully presented and yet we were able to immediately relax and enjoy the wonderful facilities. Loved the outside area and kitchen dining area where the family relaxed, cooked, enjoyed wonderful local food and wines. Sincere congratulations to Leonardo on the villa, his great support where nothing was a problem and his great wines and olive oils that you can enjoy at very reasonable prices.
Enjoyed Least:
One trick is to understand that the Saturday start leaves very little local opportunity to stock up on food and provisions, so buy enough for a couple of days on the way to the villa at supermarket (Coop).
Surrounding Area:
The scenery, some very authentic local restaurants and some fantastic restaurants within half an hours drive in some very beautiful Tuscan towns. Easy to reach some very significant historic towns. Wonderful food and winds abound in the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda and Lucolena both have local cheap trattorias but Greve and other towns are bigger and offer more interest.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just stock up on provisions before you arrive.
Directions:
Directions are fine but would recommend a GPS as an essential item that saves so much time and frustration. A great invention for Europe holidays.
Check In Out:
Very efficient and seamless.

Steve , October

Overall:
One of our best travel experiences ever. Villa was clean, up-to-date, and the views were extraordinary--we felt like we were on a movie set. Owner was personable, and extremely available and helpful for ongoing questions throughout the week.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and peacefulness.
Enjoyed Least:
Early morning crowing from nearby roosters.
Surrounding Area:
Peaceful, quiet, rolling hillsides.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena -- only 1/2 mile away. Walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
Book early --- at least nine months before travel. The one restaurant in Lucolena was superb. Small, but excellent food.
Directions:
Directions were perfect. Didn't need to use our GPS.
Check In Out:
All was very easy. Check-in and check-out were seamless. Both contacts were extremely friendly and helpful.

Richard, June

Overall:
Wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The cleanliness, the appointments, the view.
Surrounding Area:
The view, the people, nature.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena and Dudda--1/2 mile and 1 mile. Both walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
All restaurants were excellent. There is nothing we needed.
Directions:
The directions were good. We still used a GPS to help.
Check In Out:
Check in/out was effortless and friendly.

Howard, June

Overall:
I was only there for about a week but we found it totally charming. It was a great way to unwind from the trip preparation and plan the special things we wanted to do in Italy.
Enjoyed Most:
It was very quiet and one could wake up early, go down to the kitchen and not disturb anyone (no squeaky boards in the floor). I totally loved the tile floors!
Surrounding Area:
The views were great from our windows and you felt part of the villa. We loved our little restaurant in Greve.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I think Greve. Unfortunately, it was not within walking distance which would have been fun. The roads are too narrow to walk them, especially at night.
Tips or Restaurants:
Your list was wonderful and we were most comfortable with the things we brought and what was available at the villa.

Joanne, May

Overall:
This vacation was one of the best we have ever been on. The villa was wonderful and we had all the conveniences we needed. Leonardo was great and very helpful; anytime we called, he was there.
Enjoyed Most:
The property was so beautiful and we loved the setting in the hills of Tuscany. The rooms were decorated beautifully and were spacious. The bedrooms and bathroom and grounds were great, kitchen was great. We had great time with our friends and family.
Surrounding Area:
Everything was close by and the people were so friendly. It was easy to get around. Leonardo was always there to help; it was wonderful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We didn't think it was walking distance only because the road was very narrow. Dudda was a great place for dinner land ight shopping. All in all it was great.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought Ziplock bags which worked out well for storing food.
Directions:
We did not have GPS and directions were great and not a problem.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out were very good.

Providence, May

Overall:
Very clean and relaxing.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool area and kitchen.
Surrounding Area:
The views and quiet.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda; not within walking distance.
Directions:
It was pretty easy to find.

John & Amanda, May

Overall:
Wonderful. From the moment of our arrival, 5 couples, to our very last goodbye, we all had a fantastic experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The property itself was beautiful. Lovely, spacious rooms, glorious kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms galore, the grounds could not be more lovely and the countryside was glorious.
Surrounding Area:
Everything. It was beautiful, the people inviting, easy to get around by car, some enthusiasts by bike, and local town within walking distance. We walked around wine fields (with permission), tasted local wines and oils by knocking on local, small vintners doors. Met lovely people.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There were two. Lucolena was within walking distance and had a small general store, and Dudda was a short car ride. Dudda had a lovely local restaurant. Greve was a short car ride and had more shopping, wine tasting and a beautiful Piazza.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just to come to explore and enjoy. One of the most wonderful experiences we had was having a local chef come and cook for us two nights. We arranged this through Leonardo, the owner of the property. What a treat! The food was exceptional and the chef a delight.
Directions:
Directions were OK.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out was no problem at all. Leonardo was there to explain everything and help us with local directions, things to do while there and on our way out. He was a great host, always available by phone if not in person.

Alice , September

Overall:
Loved it, would go back in a heart beat. Leonardo, our host, was superb and helped us feel right at home.
Enjoyed Most:
Large living room and adjoining study made for comfortable chatting about what everyone wanted to do and what everyone did each day.
Enjoyed Least:
The cold water in the swimming pool (too bad the pool was not heated).
Surrounding Area:
The view was surreal - vineyards intertwined with olive trees - amongst terraces and villas. I loved listening to the chapel bell ringing in nearby Lucolena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena about 2 km - a good up/down 20-30 minute walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved the trattoria in Dudda - went for dinner there twice during the week. The personal chef - Jacopo - was excellent as his meals are worth every Euro and he worked with us on setting the courses of the dinners.
Directions:
Since the villa is not in a town/city, it's challenging to use a rental car's GPS to locate the villa. The directions provided worked very well.
Check In Out:
Our contact person for our group was not aware of the 500 security deposit with Leonardo, our host. Upon our arrival, some couples had to go to either Greve or Figline Valderno for a ATM. But Leonardo was willing to take the remainder of the deposit on Sunday.

Kevin, September

Enjoyed Most:
The view was my favorite thing about the property. Due to rainy weather, we were unable to use the patio and swimming pool.
Enjoyed Least:
There was no "cozy" corner in which to relax.
Surrounding Area:
The views and the wineries.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Greve in Chianti. Not walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Recommend hiring Jacopo to cook a meal. The meal he cooked for us was one of the best we had during our vacation.
Directions:
We followed the directions as provided and had no problems finding it at all. We had a GPS in the car but did not use it to find the property.
Check In Out:
Check in/check out was effortless. The owners made it simple and friendly.

Gavin, June

Overall:
The trip went off without a hitch!
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was beautiful and the villa manager was extremely helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
Our only concern was the ants in the kitchen. No matter how hard we tried to keep it clean, the ants would not leave. We were told that this occurs every year around this time.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery was unbelievable, as were the roads. We were not prepared for the "mountain driving" in the Tuscan hills. They were fun to drive and we were like Italians within a couple of days.

John, May

Overall:
Amazing! The villa was everything the RentVillas promised, and more!!
Enjoyed Most:
We loved each having our own bedroom and bath (5 women!) and we loved gathering in the family room in front of a fire each evening.
Enjoyed Least:
Thre is nothing negative I can say.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and peace and quiet, just beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda was closest but not advisable to walk, as there is no shoulder on the road.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought our own coffee filters. Needed matches for the fireplace, although I guess we could have lighted wrapped paper on the stove.
Directions:
I used the maps app on my phone--perfect. And there was a nice, visible sign at the bottom of the driveway
Check In Out:
Leonardo was fabulous, so gracious and well-prepared with information and suggestions.

Kathleen, November

Overall:
First-rate, from the welcome upon arrival through the entire stay.
Enjoyed Most:
It was in tip-top condition. We were delighted with the very-large kitchen and adjoining dining area. WiFi access was quite good. Our group of eight always felt comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
The surroundings conveyed a thoroughly peaceful harmony, yet we were within easy drives of many choice destinations.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is a hike, and on an occasionally busy road.
Tips or Restaurants:
The nearby restaurant Borgo Antico provides big-city quality in a rural context.
Directions:
One car used a GPS with the supplied coordinates and one car didn't. Both had no problem.
Check In Out:
The proprietor, Leonardo, is thoroughly considerate.

Alexander, October

Overall:
Our experience with RentVillas was flawless. When we arrived, Leonardo was there to greet us. He could not have been more accommodating and interesting. He had many recommendations for us and answered our questions about sightseeing, dining etc.
Enjoyed Most:
This has to be one of the most relaxing locations at which we have ever vacationed. It is remote, however there are a couple very good restaurants nearby. It is centrally located for short drives to Florence, Siena and many of the enchanting hill towns of Tuscany. The scenery from every vantage point of the property is fantastic.
Enjoyed Least:
Showers are small. Seating in the living room is not as comfortable as I would have liked, but then we did not spend much time inside. When we were at the villa we spent most of our time in the pool/patio area or the kitchen, which was really COOL!
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area is TUSCANY!! Beautiful rolling hills, vineyards and historic hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was walkable, but Dudda quickly became our fall back for dining. Dudda ia about 4 km away. Pretty much downhill all the way to and, obviously, up hill all the way back, so it really is not an easy walk. But they have an excellent resturant which we nicknamed the "Dudda Inn". It's the only one in town but the food and service are excellent and prices are a true bargain.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would recommend this villa to anyone. Eat at the "Dudda Inn"!!
Directions:
We had a GPS and used your coordinates as well as your directions. Because of the curves you need to pay close attention but we got there without any trouble.
Check In Out:
Leonardo was great!

Bob, September

Overall:
I wish every family could experience the joy, peace, comfort and fun that we had staying in Antonietta. It was everything that was represented on the web site and a thousand times more! We felt at home in an elegant, comfortable and exotic place!! Too much fun!!
Enjoyed Most:
The views were spectacular, and the villa was large and comfortable with space for the 10 of us. We were able to eat all of our meals on the big table by the pool, and the pizza oven was a real bonus!! Leonardo was always available to answer questions, and his wine and olive oil tasting was fun and informative. Also, having Jacopo prepare dinner in our kitchen for us the last night was one of the highlights of our entire trip!! We felt like royalty...and the food was sublime!!
Surrounding Area:
The charm and serenity were so perfect. Waking to the smell of jasmine and honeysuckle and the singing birds was a bit of heaven on earth. There were so many places to visit that were within a short distance so we were never at a loss for things to do if we wanted to do them.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is just a short distance from the villa. After having a delicious cappuccinno there one morning, my daughter walked back to the house with no problems.
Tips or Restaurants:
We had taken a few things (knives, foil, seasonings, some baggies), but overall, it is a well-stocked kitchen. We did not spend any time in the house except to eat and sleep, but did not find anything lacking!! The little pizza place in Lucolena was really great our first night, and returning from Pisa, we ate at a wonderful place called Osteria de Medici in Incisa...right on the road toward Figline. The steaks were some of the best we have ever had...and we are from Texas!!
Directions:
We had reserved GPS for the cars, but they did not have them when we arrived. We bought one, but it was defective. We actually relied on Leonardo's perfect written directions to get us to the villa with no problems.

Nannette, June

Overall:
This was a very charming, well-equipped, and well-situated villa. The overall experience was perfect!
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was very spacious, even for 10 adults. The views were beautiful and we also enjoyed that it was close to the train station.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area was quiet but close enough to a couple of good restaurants so that even the drivers could enjoy the Chianti without having to drive more than a couple of miles to get to the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town, if you can call it that, was Lucolena. It had a market and a fun family restaurant. It was within walking distance but the road is winding and dangerous for walkers.
Tips or Restaurants:
We found the COOP in Figline to be the best place to stock the refrigerator and to buy water and paper products. Also, the restaurant in Dudda is good and serves breakfast.
Directions:
We did have a GPS and because we had 2 rental cars we used walkie talkies to talk between the cars. It worked out well.
Check In Out:
Leonardo made the experience very easy.

Carol, June

Overall:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the villa.
Enjoyed Most:
The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room furniture was not as comfortable as we are used to.
Surrounding Area:
It was so beautiful--just one great vista after the other.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Figline was the nearest small town. It was 8 km away, so not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The small restaurant in Dudda is outstanding!
Directions:
The GPS in our car would not accept the coordinates.

Vicki, June

Overall:
The overall experience was great. Everyone loved the property and the amenities.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, very spacious, the "mini bar" cabinet with all the wine and olive oil produced on premises.
Enjoyed Least:
The refrigerator in the kitchen - it froze some our food and frosted over.
Surrounding Area:
Quiet, except for the occasional farm equipment. Very picturesque.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. Yes, it was walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa comes stocked with some nice wine and olive oil produced on-site. Bring soap, shampoo, and other toiletries. Also, pack some Tide-packs for the washing machine. Buy at the local supermarket: salt, pepper, spices, coffee, and size 4 Melita coffee filters.
Directions:
We hired a driver for our entire stay so this wasn't an issue. There are signs to the villa on the main road between Dudda and Lucolena, but it's small and easily missed.
Check In Out:
Both check-in and check-out were quick and easy.

Dennis, May

Overall:
The villa was fantastic. We had 5 couples, and each had their own space to rest and play. The kitchen was modern and great; there is plenty of room to cook a good meal. Heaps of areas in which to sit back and have a glass of red wine.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, the kitchen, the space. Picture postcard perfect.
Enjoyed Least:
My only critcism is the size of the showers. Minor fault, however.
Surrounding Area:
The fog rolling off the hills into the valleys. The quiet with the only sounds being birds and a distant donkey.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Lucolena. A long walk, or short bike ride, from the villa. Great place for a pizza or Sambuca or two.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you do a good shop before you arrive at the villa. Nearest big town is Greve in Chianti--a 15-minute drive away. The small restaurant in Lucolena was a pleasant find.
Directions:
We used a GPS, but it was easy to find and the directions were great.
Check In Out:
Leonardo was the perfect host. His English is excellent.

Ernie, May

Overall:
We, 5 couples, had a great time. Villa was magnificent and owner/key holder Leonardo was a perfect host.
Enjoyed Most:
Views, rooms, everything.
Enjoyed Least:
They need a clothes dryer!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena--it's a long walk!
Tips or Restaurants:
In Panzano, go to Mario the Butcher.

Peter, October

Overall:
Perfect. Not one problem.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, furnishings.
Enjoyed Least:
Kitchen could have had more platters, good knives, assorted glassware, and utensils. I had to buy a knife and spatula. This is no big deal but these items are basic.
Surrounding Area:
Greve, Lucolena, Dudda.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the closest. It was within walking distance--if you are 20 years old with a car out of fuel.
Tips or Restaurants:
Lucolena pizzeria, Dudda osteria, Borgo Antica. Dario Checchini's restaurants in Panzano. Deviole Vineyard tour and restuarant.

William, October

Overall:
Unbelievable, awesome, out of this world. The villa itself exceeded everyone’s expectations. we had an absolute ball and were sorry to leave. Special thanks to you for helping us with all the arrangements and answering all of our tedious questions! We will definitely use RentVillas again.
Enjoyed Most:
The privacy, comfort, proximity, and facilities. We loved the pizza oven and had some delicious gourmet pizzas!
Enjoyed Least:
Mosquitoes
Surrounding Area:
Peace and quiet.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is the closest, but too far to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Great experience having a meal at Officina Della Bistecca in Panzano - fairly expensive, but worth it if you like red meat! Having the chef cook a meal at the villa was a highlight. The owner helped arrange transport for us, arranged a day trip to Cinque Terre, and went out of his way to make sure that our stay was top notch. Car rentals are available in Figline. It was a nightmare picking up the car in Florence, but the owner arranged for us to drop it off in Figline, which was very helpful.
Directions:
Used a GPS. Coordinates were spot on!
Check In Out:
Went very smoothly. Let us check in a bit earlier which was great. On arruval, Roxanne met us, showed us around, and also took us through some of the things to do in the area, which was very useful. She also let us check in a bit earlier, which allowed us to get the food unpacked before the other 8 people arrived.

Margaret, September

Overall:
The experience was wonderful. Everyone in our group had a fabulous time.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were spectacular!
Enjoyed Least:
The parking lot was adjacent to our villa.
Surrounding Area:
Greve, Figline, and Lucalena are all very nice towns with good shopping. We ventured to Florence and Pisa by train, which we caught in Figline.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town, Lucalena, was a five minute drive. We didn't walk...you really need to rent a car to get around the area.
Tips or Restaurants:
Greve has a wonderful market on the weekend. Most of the restaurants we went to were in Florence. The villa came equipped with most of the essentials but you do need to go shopping for groceries upon arrival.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS. The directions were excellent. No problem at all finding the villa.
Check In Out:
Leanardo was excellent to deal with. He explained everything in detail and was there to help whenever we needed him. GREAT HOST!!!

Fran , September

Overall:
The villa was the perfect meeting place for old friends to gather and reconnect. We were able to visit around the pool and dining table, yet each had their own private bedroom and bath.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were amazing and the location was perfect. Close enough to venture out, but far enough to escape the busy city life!
Enjoyed Least:
Hot water ran out one day, but Lorenzo fixed it quickly.
Surrounding Area:
We were close to so many quaint towns and were able to explore and relax.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We could walk to Lucolena and drive to Greve-in-Chianti
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring coffee filters and coffee, salt and pepper, etc. We loved a restaurant in Greve called Il Galo Nero and Ristorante la Castellina.
Directions:
We used a GPS, as well

Mary , July

Overall:
It was wonderful. There were nine people in our party and everyone thought the experience was great.
Enjoyed Most:
The space, tranquility, views, and very friendly owner and staff.
Enjoyed Least:
Top bedroom can get quite warm in summer.
Surrounding Area:
The views, the little pubs (i.e. Dudda), and the wineries.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. We walked and had coffee there daily. We were also able to pick up basic groceries.
Tips or Restaurants:
Most necessities other than your personal things are supplied or able to be purchased within a 20 minute car drive. We had read all the previous reviews and brought way too much with us.

Irene, July

Overall:
This was a wonderful area to relax in the sun, around the pool, in beautiful surroundings.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool area!
Enjoyed Least:
This is a working vineyard. During the hot summer, the workers begin work around 6:00 AM, so that they can take a siesta during the warm afternoon. There was a lot of motor vehicle activity at 6:00 AM, so that, if you're wanting to "sleep in" in the morning, you might not be able to do so. On the other hand, you can catch up with your sleep around the pool in the afternoon.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding countryside is beautiful. We visited several wineries and small towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest towns were Lucolena and Dudda. Greve in Chianti was the nearest shopping site.
Tips or Restaurants:
Eat your main meal at noon in a restaurant and bring back cheese and fruit and cold cuts for supper.

B Andrew, July

Overall:
Wonderful villa. Our first time in Tuscany and we loved everything.
Enjoyed Most:
Large rooms, every bedroom had a bath. We never got in each others way. 7 guests all together. Large kitchen for our private chef, Mattisse. He cooked up a wonderful meal and was really good company. Also a close ride to Figline to catch the train to Florence.
Enjoyed Least:
We had a funny experience one late night, after getting in from Florence. Loud animal sounds right outside the villa. We later discovered it was 2 boars sending mating calls! We were in the country, and it was heart warming! Coffee pot wasn't too great, took an hour to brew.
Surrounding Area:
So nice and quiet. We all needed that peace and relaxation. I met up with Leonardo who took me on a tour of the little museum on the property. In fact one of the rooms backed up to our kitchen.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We enjoyed Greve, about 15 minutes drive. Dudda wasn't too far either, nice B&B for dinner or when we didn't feel like cooking breakfast.
Directions:
GPS is a must.

Linda, May

Overall:
Just perfect!!! Our whole group agreed.
Enjoyed Most:
Fireplaces with plenty of wood and access to the pizza oven.
Enjoyed Least:
Some of the showers were very small, but appreciated en suite with each bedroom and continuous hot water.
Surrounding Area:
It's beauty and accessibility.
Tips or Restaurants:
Can't improve on perfection.
Directions:
GPS coordinates were perfect!
Check In Out:
Perfectly smooth.

Gary, November

Overall:
Our overall experience was excellent...except for the weather which was rainy five out of the nine days, but considering the time of year, what could one expect.
Enjoyed Most:
The landscaping and the huge dining room/kitchen with a wood burning fireplace and large windows. The scenery from the windows was breathtaking. The bathrooms and bedrooms were excellent.
Enjoyed Least:
The upstairs living room and the front entry room. The furnishings are antique, and not modern.
Surrounding Area:
The little towns of Lucolena, Dudda, and Greve.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is the nearest small town. It is within walking distance, however the roads are very narrow so we drove most days.
Tips or Restaurants:
We found a restaurant just outside Greve in Montefioralle called La Cantinetta di Rignana. The food and service was excellent.
Directions:
We used a GPS and found our way without any difficulty.
Check In Out:
Check In was excellent. At check out time the owner came and took us on a tour of the property. We found it very interesting.

Wade, November

Overall:
Overall the Villa was beautiful and comfortable. The weather was rainy for most of the time making the Villa chilly. Most of us 10 people were OK with a sweater, a couple would have liked heat!
Enjoyed Most:
The view from the Villa was wonderful. It was a very comfortable and calm place to come home to after a long day of sightseeing and shopping. The peace and quiet after the bustle of the city was just what was needed. The owner, Leonardo, did a wine tasting for us and provided us with the history of the Villa... it was extremely interesting and the wine and olive oil were excellent!
Enjoyed Least:
There was some sewer smell in a couple of the bathrooms. Editor's Note: There are special products for septic tanks that are used to quickly resolve these problems. The problem referred to above was taken care of right away.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty and the peacefulness of the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We didn't have a vehicle because we decided to use a cab and tours, and we found that the 1 km to Lucolena, the nearest town, was mainly up hill and wasn't as convenient as we thought. The grocery shopping there was limited and the restaurant availability was limited.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely you should have a cell phone because there isn't a phone available in the Villa. A rental car is a good idea, but the roads are narrow and very windy so you may not want to drive. We had found someone on line and made arrangements with him. Maurizio was a great find, he took us on tours, picked us up from the Villa and took us to the train in Figline and was always on time. He can be reached at http://www.mauriziobellini.com/
Check In Out:
Try to get information from Roxanne as to when the reception area is open. We were unable to get into the reception area the entire week - no one was there when we were there.

Sue, October

Overall:
Our overall experience was wonderful! The villa was even better in person.
Enjoyed Most:
We enjoyed our individual rooms, the bathrooms and kitchen. Sitting outside on the patio also, was delightful. However, there were mosquitoes, so bring repellent.
Enjoyed Least:
It was difficult to find a comfortable spot to curl up and read. All of the lamps were too high and the chairs and couches in both living rooms were uncomfortable. We also were under the impression that the 3rd floor had its own sitting room, but it was actually a game room. The description of the 3rd floor was a bit misleading.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed seeing the chickens and cats at the end of our road. One day Leonardo and a crew came to pick the grapes and this was interesting to watch. Olive trees and the grapes grow on the property. The wooded hillsides made the view gorgeous. People staying in the apartments were friendly. We also enjoyed hearing the bells at nearby churches tolling. At Trader Joe's one can purchase a Chianti Classico "Il Tarocco" which features grapes grown on the villa property! One can purchase the very same wine at the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is the closest town. We went to the pizzeria for supper one evening. The food was good and it was fun to be in the midst of local Italians.
Tips or Restaurants:
No need to bring knives or cutting boards. Do bring spices, including salt and pepper. Insect repellent, even in October.
Check In Out:
It went smoothly.

Mary Katherine, October

Overall:
Living like the locals.
Enjoyed Most:
The magnificent view, the beautiful grounds and the wine cabinet!
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena only about a mile up hill. Greve is only about 15-20 minutes drive and is a great town.
Tips or Restaurants:
As mentioned in other reviews, the pizzeria in Lucolena is very good, but it's only open on the weekends. All the restaurants in the main square of Greve were very good also. On the way to the house on A-1 from the Rome airport, stop at the highway restaurant at the Orte exit. Just veer left after the toll and it is on your left.
Check In Out:
They were waiting for us and we were enjoying the villa immediately.

Cynthia, September

Overall:
The perfect villa for sharing with great friends. We were two families and everybody had their own bedroom and bath. We spent our days traveling to Florence, Siena, Radda, Greve, Panzano and other perfect Italian villages and our late afternoons by the pool. We arrived late due to flight delays but the owner was kind enough to wait for us and our chef Jacopo held dinner.
Enjoyed Most:
The kitchen and dining room are amazing! We ate most meals outside under the canopy by the pool, however, since the weather was perfect.
Enjoyed Least:
August temperatures in Italy are just plain hot and even though the evenings did cool down as spoiled Americans we did miss our air conditioning! But seriously there was nothing to dislike about the villa. It's as near paradise as you can get.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery from the villa is spectacular! The vineyards, olive trees, cypress, rolling hills - they are all there! It was easy access to many interesting villages as well as to Florence by train and Siena, a 45 minute drive.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena and Dudda were the closest. Although only 1-2 kms away most would not walk it. Its uphill and on very windy and narrow roads. Lucolena is tiny but they had entertainment in the piazza almost every night...from 8-piece orchestras to female singer to youth dance teams. It was a great colorful flavor of a Chianti village.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bug repellent is a must if you spend any time outside in the evening. The villa provides candles and coils for mosquito repellent and that helps. Its a minor distraction that didn't deter us from fantastic evenings of wine, cheese and salami! The restaurant in Dimenzanno, a little past Lucolena, was great: Borgo Antica. Dudda's Casa Chianti is good basic food. However our best restaurant meals were in Radda. Don't miss having Jacopo prepare a dinner for you! Also the kitchen is so amazing we cooked 2 of our meals ourselves.
Directions:
We followed the directions of RentVillas and they were fine. we did have a backup GPS that confirmed our turns. We arrived in the dark and the road is hilly and windy so the first impression is that you are never going to get there. While only 30kms from Florence airport you can never go much faster than 40-50kmhr on the roads. In the daylight the drive isn't nearly as difficult and is, in fact, highlighted by spectacular views.
Check In Out:
The owner was terrific and the Reception office on property was very convenient.

Tom, August

Overall:
This was a family holiday with grandparents, parents and four granddaughters aged from 7 to 10. Everything was wonderful The owner was most gracious and couldn't do enough for us. His wine-tasting was delightful - where we not only tasted the wine but received a history lesson on the area. The children were included in everything and they felt quite grown-up. We would definitely recommend this property.
Enjoyed Most:
The location, the history of the property, the beautiful old building tastefully decorated, and the view. I must not forget the lavender, rosemary and laurel bushes a.k.a. bay tree growing in abundance on the property. We used the rosemary and bay leaves in all our cooking.
Enjoyed Least:
The swinging doors into the laundry-room! You have to remember this is a working vineyard so work starts around 7:00am and can be a bit noisy. It didn't bother us too much but might be a problem if people like to sleep in.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery is breathtaking. This is my fourth holiday in Italy and it never fails to take my breath away. On the whole, people are warm and friendly and appreciate your efforts to speak Italian. This location is ideal to visit Castellina in Chianti, Greve, Florence, Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano. However, take the train to Florence as the parking is very difficult.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is the closest village and it is possible to walk there. My son and his wife did it a number of times. Everyone else was too lazy.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a very nice trattoria in Dudda which is only five minutes by car. The other close restaurant is the other side of Lucolena and is called Locanda Borga Antica. Excellent food in both; Locanda is more upscale. There are a number of very good restaurants in Greve and Castellina. You don't need to take pool towels to this villa. They are supplied. We took salt and pepper, sugar, oregano ziplock bags of varying sizes. The kitchen is very well stocked with pots and pans, dishes, glasses and cutlery. Also it had a good cutting board and supply of cooking utensils.
Directions:
My daughter was the only one to use a GPS and it took her on a longer route than the directions we were given. We found the directions to be excellent.
Check In Out:
The check in and out went smoothly. My daughter was taking the train from Florence to Paris at 9 p.m. the day of our departure and the owner told her to stay at the villa and use the pool until noon.

Sheila, July

Overall:
It actually exceeded our expectations....
Enjoyed Most:
The Italian" feel" of it... nicely done.... pool was a highlight
Enjoyed Least:
No salt and pepper or matches...
Surrounding Area:
The views.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring - salt and pepper, and matches for power outages.

Maio , July

Overall:
Spectacular, really.
Enjoyed Most:
Ample space with every bedroom having an en suite bathroom, and each room having its own personality and different outlook. Not a bad choice! Also loved the enormous kitchen and long table to enjoy family meals and the fact that all the doors and windows can be thrown open to bring the outside in on a sunny day. Also loved the wood fired barbecue out by the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Very small shower cubicles in a couple of the bathrooms...but I wouldn't even consider complaining about it! There are even 2 extra showers down by the pool! A few sharp knives would be good.
Surrounding Area:
The local restaurants. And Greve at only around 10km away is the perfect stock-up place for food, wine and general groceries.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was just 1 1/2km up hill...but worth it as there are some wonderful eating options there.
Tips or Restaurants:
the villa is really well supplied with kitchen equipment, towels etc, etc...just take a smile and kick back! And be sure to spend time in the bar at Dudda, 1 1/2km away - they do great food, sensational espresso and also hold a tidy stock of staples like pasta, milk, beer, wine and all things antipasti!
Directions:
We had no problems whatsoever, but we did use a GPS.
Check In Out:
We arrived a few hours early and they were still finishing the cleaning of the villa and the pool, but were very accommodating and allowed us to unpack the cars and settle in whilst they finished around us.

Sarah, June

Overall:
Our group of nine had a wonderful week exploring the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of Tuscany. The beautiful, comfortable villa was the perfect "base camp" for all of our adventures. Every person in our grouped LOVED the villa and our stay there.
Enjoyed Most:
The private bathrooms for every bedroom! Spending a week with friends or family is so much easier when each person or couple has a dedicated bathroom, In addition, the views from the bedroom windows were positively stunning. Finally the large, well-appointed kitchen became the prime gathering spot for our group as we cooked, visited, and enjoyed the food and wine of Tuscany.
Enjoyed Least:
There was only one or two rolls of toilet tissue provided per bath for the whole week. It would have been nice to have a little more.
Surrounding Area:
The lovely countryside and charming villages with authentic, "nontouristy" trattorias and cafes, shops, and warm, gracious, people. Florence was an easy day trip and the many surrounding towns in the Chianti region were all within easy driving distance.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. It was about one kilometer away, which is not a bad distance, but the curvy roads had very little shoulder on which to walk, so none of us made the trek on foot.
Tips or Restaurants:
Casa di Popolo in Lucolena is a great little pizzeria with other dishes too. It is only open on Friday and Saturday though. The other nearby small town, Dudda, had a nice small store for basic groceries, meats, and cheeses and a wonderful trattoria serving rustic Tuscan food. Finally, the lovely town of Raddda-in-Chianti is about a 20 minute scenic drive away and has a great little restaurant called Bar Dante that serves heavenly sandwiches, pastries, and delicious Tuscan soup.
Directions:
I would suggest future visitors who drive in from Florence go through Figline Valdarno. I rented a car in Siena. I used Google Maps to chart my route down the beautiful S222 to the villa.
Check In Out:
The owner was so helpful and accommodating. His assistant also made dinner reservations for us the night we arrived.

Overall:
Our second Rentvillas experience, and we hope not the last! Excellent facility, great host, wonderful location.
Enjoyed Most:
Great kitchen!
Enjoyed Least:
Furniture in need of reupholstering.
Surrounding Area:
Views, peace and quiet, winery in walking distance.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda and Lucolena, both walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Buy food at COOP in Figline and cook in.
Directions:
Did not use GPS. A better route would have been through Figline rather than Florence.

Overall:
Our group which consisted of my daughter's family from Germany and their friends were VERY pleased with the villa. We had heard some discouraging stories about renting villas in Tuscany but our experience was fabulous. Both Rentvillas and Leonardo who was managing the Villa Antonietta were great. We would highly recommend Rentvillas and especially our villa to anyone.
Enjoyed Most:
Just the fact that it was what it was advertised to be: beautiful, clean, well-equipped, superb location, etc. The property as a whole was just what you would imagine it to be.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing. Unfortunately for us the weather was not as warm as we had hoped, so we could not take advantage of the outdoor patio at night even though we were ready to do battle with the infamous mosquitoes. Because we had two children with us, it would also have been great to use the pool more.
Surrounding Area:
We took side trips to the Greve, thye Classic Chianti Festival, and Florence - we took a train out of Filigne - and drove to Siena and San Gimignano.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena which is truly a small town. We were told about the pizza place there but no one mentioned that it is only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If they did, we missed it. The pizza was good.
Tips or Restaurants:
We followed the suggestions Rentvillas provided and they were perfect. We had meals at various places, but we did have a wonderful meal at the Ristorante Montagliar 774 outside of Greve. We also had Jacob prepare a meal for us and it was a wonderful experience.
Directions:
We had friends who arrived before us when it was daylight and they met us in a small town and we followed them to the Villa.
Check In Out:
Leonardo was prompt, efficient and very gracious.

Overall:
Coming to Villa Antonietta, I had a smile from beginning to end. To be in such a beautiful setting with great friends and good food and wine. Nothing could have come close to the fabulous experience of this Villa. I had always dreamed of staying at a villa in Tuscany, and Villa Antonietta did not disappoint.
Enjoyed Most:
The view of Lucolena, the early morning sounds of the grounds keeper walking the property, to the sounds of the doves in the trees. Walking down the steps into the wonderful kitchen preparing for our day, whether it be a trip to Siena, or our group, hanging around the property, sketching and painting, and taking a swim. The views from every window were just breath taking.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing
Surrounding Area:
Our trips into Lucolena for pizza, then walking through the small village and meeting the residents, the people are so friendly, and love the opportunity to meet the visitors to their home town. Just trying to image could I live here, yes I could. The pace of the surrounding towns, leads you to believe they have a great secret in life, that our fast pace in the US makes us forget.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda and Lucolena seemed to be equal distance, walking distance. Lucolena is up hill to get there, Dudda is downhill walk to town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Shopping at the local Coop prior to your arrival is wise, be sure if you are cooking to get all your spices, the kitchen will not have any of this. Car rental is important. Everything else is there waiting for your wonderful stay.
Directions:
Very easy to find - we followed the written directions.
Check In Out:
Leonardo is the best, very kind and gracious to our group. Just to listen to him speak is a joy.

Joyce, September

Overall:
Delicious, drinkable, hilarious, educational, cultural, remarkable, expensive!
Enjoyed Most:
Location, location, location!
Enjoyed Least:
Maybe the pheasant fight at 4 AM. Honestly, the pheasants got into a great ruckus at 4 AM. If I had had a gun, we would have had roast pheasant for dinner that night. It was hilarious, but noisy!
Surrounding Area:
Hiking. Scenery. People. Lucolena. Did you know that every Sunday in July and August tiny little Lucolena has ballroom dancing in the square! Who would have thought!? These people take their dancing seriously, so they wear special shoes and dress up. They do a "mean" tango, but also Cha Cha and Waltz. One time they broke into an American County line dance, and we nearly fell off our chairs laughing. They executed this whole dance thing with precision and grace!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was within walking distance. The closest farm sells great bottled wine, but also bulk red and white wine for about a euro a litre. You have to have your own bottles. Name of farm is Fattoria Ottavo.
Tips or Restaurants:
Oh my goodness yes but this will take a whole page. You know I love to cook and loving to eat goes along with that. I'll have to go through my notes and send a more comprehensive entry about this.
Directions:
Directions were PERFECT, and the map you sent was ideal for getting around the area!
Check In Out:

Overall:
We were a group of 2 families traveling together: 4 adults, 4 teenagers, and 2 ten year olds. Everyone had a wonderful time. The accommodations were comfortable and the setting was spectacular.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was very convenient and it was nice that every bedroom had a bathroom. There were even 2 extra pool showers on the kitchen level. The swimming pool was a big hit with the kids. The kitchen was very nice and there was more than enough seating for 10 people.
Enjoyed Least:
We missed having a clothes dryer. It took 2 or 3 days for the clothes to dry outside. Also the kitchen was well equipped except it did not have cookie sheets or a cake pan. Even if it did - the oven did not have the temperature marked on it. This was not a problem for us except we were hoping to bake a cake or cookies and could not.
Surrounding Area:
We went to Florence twice - once on the Figline train and once by car because there was a day-long train strike. We visited San Felice winery and many of the surrounding towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is 2 km away and Dudda is also very close.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa had pool towels and several hair dryers. There is a DVD player but no DVD library- so you might want to bring DVDs. The grocery stores are not open on Sunday; they might have been open before noon in Figline. Be sure to stop for groceries on the way in on Saturday. The Coop in Figline is bigger than the one in Greve. We really liked the pizza place in Lucolena - it is just open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The pizza and pasta were good and the prices were very reasonable we ate there twice. Dudda also had a place to eat where you could sit outside.

Enjoyed Least:
Water pressure...but, not too bad.

The small villages and restaurants nearby.

Overall:
Splendid. The villa was a delightful place to stay on our first trip to Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
The privacy afforded by the en suite bedrooms setup. The large, well equipped kitchen and large eating area for gathering all together.
Enjoyed Least:
The lack of any bathtubs - but the showers were fine. The high cost of central heating two hours per evening for two weeks in April cost 200 Euros.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty of the hills, vineyards and olive groves. The proximity to hill towns and markets as well as the train in Figline for trips into Florence. The Coop in Figline was good for groceries.
Tips or Restaurants:
Trattoria Le Cernacchie, Lapanca 5km; Borgia Antica, Lucolena 2km; Casa del Popolo informal pizza place, Lucolena 2km. The owner does a very nice wine tasting for guests - 5 euros per person.

Its location was ideal for seeing the small hillside towns around. We loved going to Greve and Figline. And the trains were great for getting to Florence Bologna. The young man who met us was wonderful. He was so helpful and so willing to come back to the villa to help us in any way he could. We enjoyed the wine tasting right at the villa, as well as hearing about the history of the property.
Enjoyed Least:
Hunting was going on, and we weren't sure where we could walk around outside a couple of days. Also, the washing machine took over two hours to wash a load, and with four couples, it was not fun. Also, a dryer would help so much. Everything that had to be dried we ended up hanging everywhere, and it took days to dry. Then it was "crunchy," but we managed.
Surrounding Area:
Great views, vineyards, markets in the towns. We got a schedule and went to several throughout our week there.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. One couple out of four did walk to town, but there are no shoulders to the road. They went to the little market there and got a few groceries. They enjoyed the walk!
Tips or Restaurants:
Not a thing. It seemed to have everything. If not, the markets certainly took care of us. We had a local young lady come in and cook us a meal. It was fun watching her prepare the dishes, and it was delicious.
Directions:
We had no trouble finding it. It was good that it wasn't dark; that may have been more difficult!

The villa is much more than we all expected. It is spacious, clean, and the property is stunning.
Enjoyed Most:
It is so nice that every bedroom has it's own bathroom. Each room is very nice and very private. There is really no bad room. A great location to take day trips.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing. The only "negative" would be the hard bed. But when you are in Italy staying at such a beautiful place it is hard to complain!
Surrounding Area:
The villa and the property has a great history to it. The owner is working on putting together a summary of the history. The town of Figline is approximately 20 minutes away and the train station and Coop supermarket are very convenient. The pizza place in Lucolena is nothing to look at but the quality of food and service is outstanding. Greve in Chianti is within 30 minutes away and is a very charming, nice town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is the closest town. You could walk but it is farther then I would prefer. We went there to eat pizza and use the small grocery store.
Tips or Restaurants:
I highly recommend having Jacopo cook one night. We also opted to have him teach us to cook as well as have dinner. It was by far one of the best experiences on our trip! Also, we did the wine tasting with the owner. The property history is fascinating and the wine is also very good. You can see how much pride the owner has in the property and the wine. The owner supplies everything from soap and shampoo to pool towels. You may want to bring some laundry detergent but that is all you would really need after you made a run to the Coop for some essentials.
Directions:
The directions that are supplied are very confusing. The best way to go is to take the Incisa exit off of the A1. When you get into Figline Valdarno, follow the signs to Greve in Chianti. You will then see a sign to Lucolena 3 kilometers. Turn here and the dirt road to the villa is on your left about 2 miles up.

Check In Out:
The owner was very gracious and charming. Both check in and check out were very seamless.

Overall:
This is an exquisite property located in an extraordinarily beautiful part of the Chianti region of Tuscany. The villa is large, inviting and comfortable. The landscape is mostly forested with well tended vineyards and olive groves nestled in the area between the villa and the small town of Lucolena.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, location, location. The layout of the villa makes for a simply majestic view from every window and the patio by the pool. The location is ideal for visiting small mountain top villages and-or for longer travel to more well-known cities.
Enjoyed Least:
This was not a deal breaker but rather a little disorienting at first. The "villa" is actually a part of a very large structure which has been rehabilitated and upgraded to include "the villa" in one end of the building and then a few small apartments adjoining with the reception at the far end of the building. So, we did not have the ultimate privacy one might expect with a separate house but instead did have immediate neighbors in the adjoining apartments. However, as it turns out, this was really no problem as the layout is such that we seldom saw our neighbors and when we did we passed cordial greetings and seldom heard from them again. So, had we been better prepared for having close neighbors I most likely would not be even making this comment. In truth, there was very little to "like least" about the property.
Surrounding Area:
The Tuscan sky and vibrant colors matched only by the friendliness of the locals and the owner himself. We were in the villa for three weeks and managed to travel to most parts of Tuscany, east, west, north and south of Lucolena. As it is, even though the diversity of Tuscany is very appealing, our experience was that the area within about five miles of Lucolena was by far the most brilliant in colors, comfortable in climate, and appealing in places to visit for quiet walks and great local meals. We simply loved the small market in Lucolena and the chance to have a morning cappuccino and to visit with the locals in the small square near the store as we did our daily shopping.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The small town of Lucolena is visible from every window of the villa and is the centerpiece of the view from the pool. It presents itself on the horizon like a picture from a post-card. Up close, it is a delightfully compact village with a well-stocked little store, a pizzeria with some of the best thin crusted pizza in Italy, and a church tower with bells that signals the time on the hour for all to hear. Some more hearty souls may walk to the village but it is uphill and the road is rather narrow so, all in all, I suspect most people will want to drive. We did not venture to make this trip on foot nor did any one in our party of ten.
Tips or Restaurants:
We were a little surprised that there was no existing pantry with at least some odds and ends e.g., salt, pepper, flour, coffee filters, napkins, paper towels, dish soap, etcetera. Instead, the kitchen was clean as a whistle without anything left on any of the counters or shelf's. Just plan to start from scratch as you might when reserving a suite with a kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped but only one cutting board which made it difficult for six or so people to work on the dinner together at one time. There are plenty of suggestions on this site regarding restaurants but I didn't see anyone mention The Cantina restaurant in Greve. The Cantina is very near the piazza and serves a wonderful lunch of salmon over pasta with peppercorn cream sauce. Each previous visitor makes it seem like the train from Figline to Florence is easy. We did not find this to be the case. The train schedule, parking at the station, and other aspects did not work out as described. Please look into this facet of your journey with some care.

Enjoyed Most:
Peaceful and quiet and nestled in the hills of Tuscany.
Enjoyed Least:
Beds are very hard, could use some mattress toppers. Also the outside lights were too much, suggest you ask for them to be on a timer.
Surrounding Area:
Very pretty, easy to get lost.
Tips or Restaurants:
No need to bring anything really, except the mattress topper. Everything was supplied except food - even wine in house.

We would go back again and again.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved everything. The location, the view, the way we were treated by the owner, the facilities. There is really nothing that I would change.
Enjoyed Least:
I cannot think of anything, except the difficulty in using the washing machine.
Surrounding Area:
The views and the people. The scenery was spectacular. It was close to a number of small and very interesting towns. All the people we came in contact with were so friendly and generous.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. You could walk there but it was all uphill.
Tips or Restaurants:
We really did not bring anything more than what was recommended in the information provided by RentVillas and we found we did not need anything else. We loved a little restaurant just past Lucolena called Locanda Borgo Antico. It was a wonderful little place with outstanding food and a very friendly owner. We also loved the towns of Castellina and Cortona.

Overall:
It far exceeded out expectations. There wasn't anything we would change.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! the villa was clean, spacious, and had gorgeous views. Also a great location.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
The wineries. We visited many.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is about one mile away. We walked to it but it is up a steep hill and I would not suggest walking it at night. Other towns are Greve, Figlini, each about a 20 minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are several good restaurants in Greve, which is only a 20 minute drive. the whole area has much to offer. We took a train from Figlini into Florence. Also able to visit Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo and Radda.
Directions:
We followed them exactly and had no trouble at all.
Check In Out:
The keyholder was very accommodating.

Overall:
We found heaven on earth. All ten of us felt this way.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the fact that there were private areas in the villa for all ten of us! Although we all loved being together for meals and chats, it was also wonderful to know that there was privacy for reading, taking a nap, walking around the property etc. The views were also sensational!
Enjoyed Least:
That's a tough question----we loved it so much. Hmmmmm.......the best I can do is that we never sat in the corner living room because of its darkly colored walls and furniture. I had to really think about this question
Surrounding Area:
Tha surrounding area was rustic and quaint and we all loved it. Walking into Lucolena was special since we knew we were guests in this little town. Nobody spoke any English and we communicated with our basic Italian and charades. Somehow they understood us and helped us out. The little pizzeria was lots of fun and had great food, too.
Nearby Events or Locales:
If surrounding area means around our villa, well, it was perfect. Places to walk and hike, a wonderful family nearby with a grandmother who spoke to us as we petted her dog "Nerone" - conversation entirely in Italian, the vineyard and tour given by Leonardo, the garden area with blooming lilacs. The little town was one mile away, up a hill, but, quite doable.
Tips or Restaurants:
This villa far exceeded our expectations. Every morning we'd open the windows and say "Another day in Paradise". Our weather was blue skies, sunny, and temps in the 70's and 80's. It was an unusual run of warm weather for the end of April and we all thought that the gods were smiling on us. The suggestions that were made on what to bring were excellent---even the list of suggested grocery items. If renters do their research and read the suggestions that you provided, all will be great. Restaurants? Well, we did eat at a great restaurant in Panzano, but, I can't remember the name. It was an accidental "find" as we were walking a back street and the restaurant has a hanging wisteria garden and overlooks the whole valley.
Check In Out:
It was well executed both times.

Jan, April

Overall:
Overall this villa exceeded all of our expectations. There are two CD players in the villa. One has an excellent sound system, so bring music for your cozy evenings in. We also recommend getting the chef to cook you dinner one night. The food was excellent and it was a real pleasure not to have to drive anywhere.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa had wonderful views. The neighbors were nice and friendly and the owner was very accommodating. He even did a special tasting for us in the house. All of the rooms were very spacious and every room had it's own bathroom. There were two showers for use after being in the pool, which was still open in October. The pool was beautiful and well kept. The kitchen was gorgeous and a pleasure to cook meals in.
Enjoyed Least:
The front room could use heavier curtains to block out the light of the lamps outside.
Surrounding Area:
It was a nice quiet setting to relax in. We could easily get to Siena, Florence, Greve. Greve is the closest town and has a nice market on Sundays. It is best to take the train from Figline to Florence. Figline is a nice town to walk around in the evening. Siena is a beautiful town filled with interesting shops, restaurants, and lovely churches, etc. to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Lucolena. It is a nice walk uphill. It probably takes about 15 - 20 minutes to get there. There is a great pizzeria there. The town is quaint, but other than the pizzeria not much is happening there.
Tips or Restaurants:
I suggest you bring salt, pepper, etc. The COOP in Figline is excellent for grocery shopping. You can buy excellent olive oil from the villa. Wine is also available for purchase and all of the wine we tasted was excellent. We recommend doing a tasting. The owner does a great job talking about the wines and explaining how the wine and olive oil is made as the property has been in his family for years. There is a restaurant just outside of Lucolena called Borgo Antico that is excellent. We highly recommend it. I would bring mosquito repellent. Those Tuscan mosquitoes are like ninjas. You don't even realize you got bit until you see the welts and start to itch.
Directions:
It is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Florence.

Aerial, October

Overall:
We had a great time. My only regret was not spending more "down-time" enjoying the villa itself. We were constantly on the run.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. The kitchen was well equipped and we spent most of our time at the villa around the dining room table sharing a meal and reliving our adventures of the day. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds very comfortable. Every bedroom had a private bathroom - a real luxury. The outdoor areas were wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
It was a little too far to walk to Lucolena. Also, the mosquitoes were pretty bad. I hope Italy discovers "screens" in the near future.
Surrounding Area:
The Chianti region was beautiful and we didn't have enough time to visit all the places we wanted to. The driving was a little nerve racking. Now I know why so many race car drivers are Italian. The food was absolutely delicious and we enjoyed trying all the different vineyards' wines.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the nearest town and you could probably walk to it, but we didn't. It just seemed a little too far and the road wasn't very inviting to walk on. Also, we usually were out all day and just didn't have enough energy left at the end of the day.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't bring laundry detergent. I think every renter leaves what they have left and the shelves are overflowing. Do make sure you have Leonardo show you the cellars and give you the tour. His enthusiasm about the wine they make is contagious - makes you want to go out and pick the grapes yourself. And their Chianti is really good. Also, try to visit a few of the surrounding town's market days. They're really fun.
Directions:
We did get lost a lot but I don't think its because of the directions given. The road signs were just hard to find at times. The directions we were given is probably the most picturesque approach to the villa, but we found taking A1 to Figline the fastest, easiest way to get there. We had enough winding road trips exploring the area after we arrived.
Check In Out:
No problems. Leonardo did a great job showing us the villa and explaining anything we needed to know. There was lots of reading material about the villa and the surrounding area. Also, Leonard was available via cell phone if we had any questions.

Barbara, September

Overall:
Try it! You will like it!
Enjoyed Most:
This property is truly the gem of the trip! Very rural and rustic with all the modern conveniences. Roosters calling you for breakfast sometimes a little too early. Plenty of room for 10 adults. Great kitchen with a long table and twelve chairs in the breakfast nook with a huge window looking out over the rolling grape fields and countrysides. Well stocked wine, grappa, and olive oil cabinet in the living room with a wide variety to chose from both reserve and newer chablis from the local area
Enjoyed Least:
Quite a few stairs, especially from the kitchen in the lower level to living room and most of the bedrooms, four on the 2nd floor, to the third level.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful small villages to visit, each with a different attitude to offer. Great geographical area to commute to a variety of these towns, as well as quite close to Figline train station from which you can easily get to many places.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena, do-able by foot but would recommend a car. There are 4 bikes on the property, so if pedaling is your thing, do it!
Tips or Restaurants:
Most things are available, if not already there. We did purchase and left a new coffee maker since the one that was there took 30 minutes to "work". If you are a coffee drinker bring ground not whole beans. Spent a great amount of time with a small hammer trying to do my own grinding! We also had a chef come in to prepare a special dinner - 2 birthday celebrations. 4 STARS - a six course meal!
Directions:
The getting there is half the fun, though it didn't seem so at the time. You must have a good navigator with ability to interpret arrow signs in a flash! We turned around three different times and retraced or tracks only to find that we didn't go far enough! It's an adventure but well worth it once you find "Home"!
Check In Out:
Went without a hitch, although we arrived a bit early and they were still cleaning. They let us deposit our bags in the living room, as we didn't have room in the car to put some of the goodies we needed to get. We drove down from Florence and were not sure how much time it was going to take to get there. Cristina and her adult son greeted us with open arms and made everyone feel very welcomed.

Overall:
I would go back tomorrow in a heartbeat. I loved it. I have been to Italy a number of times since 2000, and this was a significant trip. Loved the house. We had such a great time - all of us splitting up and traveling around the countryside to visit different locations - but then coming back at night and sitting at the magnificent dinner table and enjoying great food and wine. The wine bar is completely stocked with great wine from the location and its priced inexpensively. The hosts couldn't be more helpful and generous. It was a lovely lovely trip.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! It was truly lovely and a very special place. I liked the hosts, the set up, the layout of the house...the STOCKED WINE CABINET!! It was a wonderful trip.
Enjoyed Least:
I cant really think of anything...
Surrounding Area:
The remote setting - the views look like a painting when the sun is right!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is the nearest small town and it's REALLY small. Yes, you can walk it but its a hike and there is a slight up hill grade to it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Stock up at the grocery store in Greve. You can really take care of yourself if you do that. There is a chain store in town where you can shop for all your needs. Good idea to stop there or someplace before you go in on Saturday because so much is closed on Sunday and mid-days for the rest of the week. If you are in the grocery store be sure to weigh your produce before you go to the register. They will frown at you and send you back out of the check-out line if you don't! Also, if you go into Lucolena to buy stuff, take smaller bills. The fellow who runs the store doesn't appreciate 20 Euro bills to pay for a bottle of water!!! Trust me, I know
Directions:
Take a map and plan it out before you try to drive it. Its very easy to get lost and although a lovely drive - the hairpin turns of the region get a little stressful if you are doing them over and over again. Do not plan on getting into the area after dark. Its very difficult to find if you cant see the signs and if you go visit other towns....make sure that you are back in the region before dark. Its very difficult to drive at night.
Check In Out:
Just fine. They are personable and informative hosts.

Michelle, August

Overall:
I was concerned originally with renting from an online site, but when we arrived, the villa not only met but exceeded our expectations. We were a party of nine and there was plenty of room for all. We enjoyed most the outside table where we would gather to plan our days and enjoy the views while eating and reliving our daily excursions.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and solitude. The property was centrally located in the Chianti area which made touring easy and enjoyable. The local towns of Dudda and Lucolena were close enough for a quick trip to the market, yet the villa was far enough removed to allow for peace and quiet. We took one day just to enjoy our company around the pool while relaxing and taking in the views.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing really. We had a few days where the hot water was not working properly but due to the hot weather, it was manageable.
Surrounding Area:
Location, location, location! The surrounding countryside was magnificent. The local townspeople were a joy and I enjoyed trying to engage with them
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was about 1 or 2 kilometers. The walk would be uphill and on a narrow road. There is a post office which we used once and a small market that was sparse on necessities but long on flavor.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring plenty of bug repellent if during the summer season. I would highly recommend having chef Jacoba come in. We had him cook for us on two evenings and it was spectacular.

Michael, August

Overall:
Would gladly go back many times!
Enjoyed Most:
Beautifully restored and well-appointed, with a well-stocked kitchen, lovely pool, and beautiful views. Christina and Leonardo make you feel quite at home.
Enjoyed Least:
100 degree weather is tough without AC or screens.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful vineyards and towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena.
Tips or Restaurants:
We suggest the Antico Borgo restaurant in Lucolena.

Ari, July

Overall:
We all enjoyed the villa tremendously. It was even better than we'd hoped. We felt like we were living lifestyles of the rich and famous. An outstanding experience for everyone.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved everything about the property. We had eight people and we were all very comfortable. Our favorite was sitting outside at the table and around the pool enjoying the wonderful wine from our wine cabinet. Christina was very welcoming and helpful. The villa was perfect in every way. Beautiful setting, beautiful villa, beautiful everything.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing that we didn't love about this property.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed visiting the many hill towns near the property: Radda, Greve, Castellina, Panzano. Beautiful scenery, outstanding towns and fabulous lunches.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. We enjoyed the best pizza in Italy in Lucolena. We also walked to the post office several times. We loved having the town so close.
Tips or Restaurants:
We visited two restaurants near the villa (brochures were in the villa). We enjoyed them both. Our favorite lunch in Tuscany was at Il Vescovino in Panzano - fabulous view, fabulous food, outstanding. We also arranged for Jacapo to cook for us on our last night in the villa. Fabulous! Everyone voted it their favorite event of the week! Don't miss this great opportunity.

Lisa, June

Overall:
Enjoyed it and would go back.
Enjoyed Most:
Very well kept. The beds were comfortable and the quiet peaceful ambiance was fabulous. The location was perfect in that it afforded us a 20-minute drive to the train station for a trip to Florence, quick access to the Autostrada A-1, and a very scenic drive to Siena, Radda and many other small attractive towns.
Enjoyed Least:
Very little, The kitchen could use better lighting. We wished it had a clothes dryer.
Surrounding Area:
Very attractive landscape, the small village of Lucolena had a few groceries and made for a fun walk. Greve was very handy for grocery shopping, as was Figline.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Greve has several good restaurants. The Villa had the name of a chef who we hired for one evening, the dinner and experience was terrific.

Ray, June

Overall:
The property was super. We only wish it had been warmer, since the pool was so inviting.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the kitchen.
Enjoyed Least:
The ants in the outdoor area were quite large.
Surrounding Area:
Everything. Chianti was beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the nearest small town, but we drove there, and we were glad we did. There is not much there that is worthwhile as a destination, but the view to the villa is nice.
Check In Out:
They were very accomodating about checking us out early, since we had 10 am flights out of Firenze. They checked us out the night before.

Gregory, June

Overall:
We all loved it.
Enjoyed Most:
It is stunningly beautiful and very spacious. We had eight in our party and didn't even use the upstairs at all. The location is very quiet except for birdsong and the grounds are lovely. It is close to trains, sightseeing and shopping.
Enjoyed Least:
The pillows and the lack of soap!
Surrounding Area:
There is so much to enjoy. We recommend Carpineto, a winery, only 1.8 km down the road for tastings, and to some of the closer towns Greve, Panzano, San Gimignano, Cortona, Florence. It is in the middle of Chianti country so the countryside is rolling and covered with vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town is Lucolena, definitely within walking distance, only about 1.5 km away. You can see it from the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
The best restaurant is Locanda Borgo Antico, just past Lucolena. The food is fantastic and the prices unbelievable. Dinner for eight with wine was only 200 Euros. Shop in Figline at the Co-op, there are good prices and excellent selection. Keep in mind that you should wear the plastic gloves provided when choosing fruits and veggies, and remember to weigh them and get a price sticker before getting into the check-out line. The machine is easy to follow as it has pictures of the produce if you don't know the Italian names. In Greve there is an excellent wine tasting place where you can taste over 100 wines and olive oils. There is also an excellent butcher in Greve.
Check In Out:
Christina and Leonardo are wonderful and their English impressive.

Elizabeth, May

Overall:
This villa is so much better than the pictures. It is just fabulous. We had four couples and we had plenty of space and privacy. The bathrooms are new and there is plenty of bright light throughout the villa. The kitchen and dining area is the heart of the villa. We spent most nights there dining, talking, laughing and sharing great wine.
Enjoyed Most:
The size of the villa and the location is perfect for exploring Tuscany. We toured the area during the day and were happy to return home to make dinner with the day's finds. The owners are very cordial and go out of their way to accommodate requests. We really liked the olive oil and wine you could purchase that was made on the property.
Enjoyed Least:
No dryer. We were there two weeks. The first week was overcast and cool. Clothes would not dry. The second week was sunny. We hung a clothes line and hung everything out to dry. The pillows are thin and hard. Two of us had stiff necks the whole time.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany is breathtakingly beautiful and the food and wine are unbeatable. We were close to Siena, Florence and many hilltop towns. The drive into Greve and Radda is spectacular. Just watch out for those Italian drivers who take their half out of the middle of the road!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the closest village. You could walk there, but we chose to drive because we were picking up some groceries. There is a little winery just down the road on the way to Lucolena. Stop and buy their local wine and olive oil.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you go to the local markets that are held once or twice a month in several towns. The fresh produce and specialty items are wonderful. Cheeses, sausages, preserves, honey - all are delicious. Figline comes alive after 5:00pm. From first glance, it appears this town doesn't have much to offer. But the small boutiques and shops come alive at dusk. It is a real town, not a tourist town which we fund charming. Greve has the best wine store around the corner from the Coop.
Directions:
Try to arrive during daylight. There are few streetlights in rural Italy. The driveway is hard to spot at night, even when you know where it is!

Robyn, October

Overall:
Having previously rented properties in Portugal, Spain, France and Italy, there is no doubt that this was by far the best.
Enjoyed Most:
Bathroom for each bedroom on the main floor level
Enjoyed Least:
The shower in the bedroom overlooking the barbecue has little or no water pressure.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful hilly countryside
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. Not to be walked to.
Tips or Restaurants:
Salt, pepper and sugar. As these items are only available in far larger quantities than a week's usage, surely plenty of each could be left by a previous occupant. For example, we left the majority of what we purchased.

Les, October

Enjoyed Most:
The location was quite good and the villa was overall very nice. We especially liked hanging out by the pool and the kitchen area. The weather was a bit cool and there were many rooms to hang out in. Although it is a separate building, there are apartments attached to it. It is built like a city house with the next building attached. It never bugged us, however. Very quiet and private. Also keep in mind the roads are quite curvy and if I was to go again I would budget more time to just hanging out at the villa because driving was not relaxing.
Enjoyed Least:
The showers had low water pressure. Also they owners have quite bright street lights that stay on all night, made star gazing impossible and our bedroom was a bit light from them. But both of these things are minor complaints and did not impact our enjoyment of the property
Surrounding Area:
The vineyard was right there and a small ruin at the top of the hill were both nice places to walk.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was very close and you could walk, but we never did. Also went to Greve which is a great tourist town. The Cantina is just as nice as previous people wrote about and has a great selection of wine. Siena was close and had good shopping. Florence was also close and we stayed a few nights there after our week in the villa. Great shopping, food and sights in Florence.
Tips or Restaurants:
Stock up on the basics for the kitchen. You will need to bring salt, pepper and paper towels. Also toilet paper. Lucolena has a great pizza place, very local. Also had dinner at Locanda Borgo Antico, very nice, upscale dinner. Excellent steak and grilled meat. Also had Jalsco, the chef, come in twice. Great meal.

Corrie, September

Overall:
The villa was in a beutiful setting. Bathrooms were all very modern and the kitchen well equipped. Since they are European appliances, we would recommend requesting a thorough explanation of how to operate them on arrival. The villa is connected in the back to a some adjacent small apartments, with some construction underway. These presented no problems for us, but if they were fully occupied, or the renters were noisy, it might affect the experience, depending very much on one's expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The Villa itself was outstanding. Very well maintained, and well located on a hillside offering excellent views of the valley below and the opposite hillside.
Enjoyed Least:
We were a bit surprised by evening temperatures, which actually required sweaters when the sun went down. Probably as a result of this, the pool temperature was too cool to use easily during the day. Trees located close to the pool dropped debris, as well, making it less inviting.
Surrounding Area:
The entire area was a visual feast - mountains, hills, vineyards and small villages
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the closest small village, and can be easily seen from the villa, but it is too far to walk. I would discourage any walkng in the area since the roads are quite narrow.
Tips or Restaurants:
We did stop in Figline enroute and picked up various staples and groceries. They have a supermarket, which you pass on the way in, and a larger COOP supermarket, which is just beyond the turnoff to the villa. The supermarket, at least, is also open on Sunday morning.
Check In Out:
Check in and out was very easy, and the owner, was extremely kind and helpful.

Overall:
We will be back. Our family loved every minute there. Excellent property.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was beautiful and location PERFECT. We were so close to excellent roads and could spend our days visiting small villages. Close to train station in Figline and could take train to FLorence for the day with no hassle. Cristina and the farmer at the villa were WONDERFUL. Cristina's English is good and she was most helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
NOTHING it was wonderful.
Surrounding Area:
The area is beautiful and so full of beautiful, charming towns and villages. We would take day trips and have a wonderful Tuscan lunch at a local small restaurant and then stop at the local market for fresh fish, sausages, cheese, bread, WINE and fruit and cook a wonderful dinner at the villa and relax! So perfect. Felt we really got to live like the people of Tuscany for the week.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was about 1 mile away and a good, but tough uphill walk. We went to Mass there on Sunday and got to see the local parade for feast of Corpus Christi. Very small market there and pizzeria. People in Lucolena were so nice and charming.
Tips or Restaurants:
MANY good restaurants. Beautiful hilltop restaurant in Lamole. Bring cards if you like to play. The villa really is very well equipped and markets not far.
Directions:
They were perfect.
Check In Out:
Christina was wonderful so charming and very easy check in and check out.

Overall:
The villa is in a very convenient location. The house is generally comfortable and spacious and makes a great base for exploring the Tuscan countryside. We would definitely recommend it to our friends.
Enjoyed Most:
The kitchen and dining room were charming and spacious. There were plenty of pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc. for us to cook the occasional dinners we ate at home. We spent most of our time at home gathered in these two rooms. The bedrooms and bathrooms were great. It was nice that each room had its own bathroom. The one bedroom and two bathrooms upstairs would be great for kids-teenagers.
Enjoyed Least:
The chairs in the living room were rather formal and not particularly comfortable. We spent almost no time in that room. We were surprised that there were no basics in the kitchen. We arrived Saturday evening and had gone grocery shopping on the way because we knew that the stores would be closed on Sunday and Monday, a holiday. We did expect that the kitchen would have at least salt and pepper, but it didn't. Luckily, we had bought other basics such as sugar, napkins, paper towels, etc. Overall, this was a minor issue in our overall very positive experience.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside is beautiful. We went to Figline several times to go grocery shopping and to catch the train to Florence. We went to outlets in Incisa and Montevarchi and found a great trattoria in Incisa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. It is within walking distance, but since there are so many other things to do in the area, only a couple of us actually took the time to walk there once.
Tips or Restaurants:
Since arrivals are on Saturday and grocery stores are closed on Sundays, we recommend making sure that you bring basic supplies. One of the bathrooms had a hair dryer, but the others did not. You might want to consider brining your own. It was cool when we arrived. We were told that heating would cost 50 euros per day, so we wore layers. Luckily, it warmed up after a couple of days.

Overall:
RENTVILLAS provided SUPERB service. After I realized I was on the plane waiting for take-off with no rental voucher I called by cell phone and they faxed the needed paperwork to my hotel in Rome! All of my interactions with their staff was professional and very helpful. I would definitely book a villa with them again. All info in the packet sent prior to trip was detailed and a map was included.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was much larger, and more beautiful, than we expected. There are 4 bedrooms with baths on the 1st floor, along with living room and parlor and 2 baths, 1 additional bedroom and parlour on 2nd floor. Very large kitchen and dining room on the basement level. House was immaculate and beautifully furnished!! All staff were accommodating and gracious. The house wine was good - so was the grappa.
Enjoyed Least:
The only negative I would say is that you need heat in April, and they don't encourage you to use it. We asked for heat for overnights, I believe it was on from 8pm to 8am. Since we were sightseeing most of the day, not having heat during the day was not an issue. It would be cold in the house if you were planning to be home all day, though. Temperature mid-April was mid-60's, down at least to 40's at night.
Surrounding Area:
Fantastic location for seeing Tuscany area. We took train into Florence 2 days from Figline - easy drive from the villa. Great food everywhere...we took day trips to Greve and Panzano Siena, San Gimignano. Lovely views from villa, and driving through Tuscany. We did find the driving much hillier, with sharp turns, than we had imagined, so buckle your seatbelt.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena, very close. We drove, but you could walk. Little grocery store has many things you will need. Casa del Popolo had great pizza, but also served other entrees. We did follow advice and did our main shopping at FIGLINE Coop on the way in. We heard prices at Greve Coop were higher. Also the drive between FIGLINE and the villa is easier.
Tips or Restaurants:
Great Restaurants we enjoyed - we had 3 teens, and 3 adults. We loved the red sauce and homemade pasta at Bottega Del Moro to south left of main intersection in Greve and were guided to eat there by a local lady. Just south of Panzano, we enjoyed Fattoria Montagliari - definitely try the wild boar sauce -very excellent. We thought Gusto Leo on Via del Proconsolo 8-10r was great for lunch in Florence. Very nice lunch special-so fresh and delicious! One night we had a blast at Girazole Club Camping VIllage's Vecchio Restaurant. Try the ribs and anything on their grill. Very comfortable for families, great service. Take road from Figline, and it is before Lucolena exit. Also recommend Chef Jacopo for a meal. His food was excellent, and he even did kitchen duty! Order wine or olive oil to ship back home at Le Cantine in Greve. Great selection, fast service and delivery.
Check In Out:
No problems. Caretaker available on weekends for check-in, and out. Easily available by phone.

Marcy, April

Overall:
The villa was large and roomy. Can hold 10 easily. The pool looked great. We went in April so we could not use it. The kids loved the villa. Lots of space and they could play on the grounds. Christina and her son Leonardo were very helpful. The wine they have in the villa was excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The tranquility. The villa was set off down a small road. The views out of 3 of the bedrooms were awesome. Private. Very close to lucolena. The train station in Figline was close and we used it a lot.
Enjoyed Least:
We went in April and we chose not to use the heat due to the extra charge. It was cold. The kitchen was very cold, and we started a fire in the huge fireplace, but it filled the kitchen with smoke.
Surrounding Area:
Greve, Siena, Florence, Lucca - just a few of the day trips we took. Wonderful location.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We walked to Lucolena several times. It an uphill walk, but all downhill on the way home.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring enough clothes. Do not depend on the washing machine. It is very small and takes forever!! There is no dryer.
Directions:
Watch carefully - there is only one sign to Lucolena. Try to arrive before dark.

Pam , April

Overall:
When you check in to the villa you will find that the owner is a very warm, friendly and helpful person. If you need anything she will be there in a matter of minutes. Our last night in the villa we took her suggestion and hired a chef, Jacopo, to come in and prepare a beautiful 4-course meal for the six of us. The meal was outstanding! I would recommend it to anyone. What a treat! My only regret is that we only stayed one week in the villa. We should have taken two weeks, that would have allowed us to take day trips to the surrounding towns and also enjoy the villa and it's surroundings. Additionally, there are several wine and oil producers within 10 kilometers of the villa. Be sure to taste and purchase the local products. They are all very good!
Enjoyed Most:
The location was excellent. The villa was located in the countryside, yet it was a relatively easy drive to all of the major towns in Tuscany.
Enjoyed Least:
The clothes washer was small and it took a long time to do a load of washing. But this is not uncommon in Italy and other parts of Europe.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the fact that we were not surrounded by other tourists. We were the only non-locals in the immediate area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena is a small town within 2 kilometers. It was an uphill but easy walk from the villa. Bikes were also available if you chose to ride. Greve is about 8 kilometers from the villa. It has a wonderful bakery, a beautiful little town square and the best place to taste Chianti Classico and other regional wines.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are some very fine restaurants within 10 to 15 kilometers. Do not miss Locanda Borgo Antico in Dimezzano. It is just 1 or 2 kilometers past Lucolena. Ask for the traditional Tuscan menu. The Cinghiale wild boar in chocolate sauce is to die for! They also do a wonderful Bistecca alla fiorentina. Be sure to make reservations. There is a fine restaurant in Lo Panca about 5 kilometers from the villa. The name escapes me, but you can get it from the owner when she checks you into the villa. Another very good restaurant which is an old farmhouse is Cantinetta di Rignana. This one is located in the tiny hamlet of Rignana outside of Greve. Great food and friendly owners. When you call for reservations, make sure to ask for precise directions. It is hard to find but well worth the effort. My last suggestion would be to take the wine tour and tasting followed by dinner at Castello Vicchiomaggio. The castle is located just about 5 kilometers out of Greve on a hilltop with a wonderful view.
Check In Out:
The owner made everything so easy.

Enjoyed Most:
The villa was really lovely, very clean, beautifully furnished. The location is spectacular - the views of the vineyards are amazing. The kitchen was fabulous. We used the large fireplace a few times. What atmosphere!! We were there in mid-October and everyone was busy with picking the grapes. It really added to the whole Tuscany experience.
Enjoyed Least:
My parents were cold, especially at night. They asked to have the heat turned on, but it didn't work some of the time in their bedroom. Also there was a leak from the bathroom above down to the bedroom directly below. We noticed a large wet spot on the ceiling. We contacted the owner, who in turn called a plumber , but it was not to be fixed until after we left. We just moved over to an adjoining bathroom so it was just one of those things. There was not any inconvenience.
Surrounding Area:
We really enjoyed the vineyards, especially Castello Di Verrazzano We had a lovely wine tasting there and enjoyed the spectacular views from the terrace. And also a nice wine tasting at Castello Vicchiomaggio. Visiting Pisa and Siena was an easy drive. We loved the town of Greve.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Lucolena, where there was a small market. It was close but nobody walked there.
Tips or Restaurants:
We dined at La Cantina, Giovanni da Verrazzano and Locanda Borgo Antico all in Greve. All really good. Giovanni da Verrazzano has a lovely second floor covered terrace for dining that overlooks the old market square and is a great place for dinner. The pizzas at La Cantina were delicious - the crust so thin and light. The garlic toast and the chicken livers at Giovanni da Verrazzano are not to be missed!

Overall:
Don't tell anyone about this place!
Enjoyed Most:
The view from the rooms was excellent. Very peaceful location. Large kitchen and dining room where everyone seemed to congregate. Pictures do not due the villa justice. Five bedrooms with six bathrooms! Good location for getting the train in Figline for Florence. Loved the small town of Greve.
Enjoyed Least:
Could use more cooking utensils. Maybe leaving some spices?
Surrounding Area:
Quiet, peaceful setting. Grapevines full and ready to harvest. Great for pictures. Local towns were the best.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the closest, about 1.5 km away. Figline was about 9 km was a medium size town. Greve in Chianti was our favorite.
Tips or Restaurants:
Mangiando Mangiando in Greve in Chianti
Directions:
Just read them before you go.
Check In Out:
Kristia the villa keeper was very nice to us. She spoke much better English than we did Italian.

Overall:
Book soon or I might beat you to it...we will be back for sure!
Enjoyed Most:
I liked everything! It is hard to pick out one single thing that was better than the rest. I loved the huge kitchen, but also loved to eat al fresco outside at the large table beside the pool. The bedrooms were comfortable and beautifully furnished in a classic style. The pool was great to cool off in from the 30 degree heat. We had ten of us in the group, but you could barely tell since the place was so spacious.
Surrounding Area:
Again, so much to say! There are so many lovely little towns in easy drive of the villa. Some of our best days were spent exploring a few little towns in the morning and then spending the afternoon by the pool. It is also a short train ride to Florence and many other places. We found that Pisa was an easy day trip, as was Florence and Siena. Lovely little restaurant just two towns over - Locanda Borgo Antico. And, of course, the wine!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town is Lucolena, a 15 minute walk. There is a pizza place there with good thin crust pizza. Figline Valderno is a 10-15 minute drive and has a really good COOP for groceries. Greve in Chianti is also about 15 minutes away. Great wine store in the main square, Enoteca del Chinati Classico Gallo Nero.
Tips or Restaurants:
Do your grocery shopping in Figline Valderno, the COOP there has a good selection. The villa is well furnished with towels and linens, so no need to bring any of that. Don't forget spices when you shop, like salt, pepper, sugar, etc.
Check In Out:
Cristina speaks passably good English and is extremely helpful.

Elizabeth, August

Overall:
The owner, Christina, was delightful, gracious and helpful. The villa would probably be best enjoyed over a two-week stay. One week was just not enough. This was our first trip to Italy - we're glad we invested in Italian language courses - it made the stay more enjoyable and was most helpful in more remote places. We hope to return soon. While the villa lists a fairly large capacity only two of the rooms have twin beds - the others are all king - queen size - so plan accordingly. What can we say - you will love your stay!
Enjoyed Most:
First, the picture did not do justice to the property. It was a beautiful villa that surpassed any expectations we had. The rooms were spacious, the kitchen incredible. That, coupled with the views would make us return in a moment. As other reviewers indicated, the dilemma was trying to decide whether to stay at the villa or enjoy the beautiful scenery of Toscana
Enjoyed Least:
No real complaints. The upper two rooms, the former attic area, tended to be on the warm side and not as well ventilated as the rooms on the main floor
Surrounding Area:
Wonderful towns and villages to explore. Breathtaking views around every turn. Easy accessibility to so many sightseeing opportunities. There was not nearly enough time.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. It was within walking distance but uphill. A pleasant walk early in the morning a little more taxing during afternoon heat. A small market provided us with basic food stuff. We did make a couple of trips to Figline Valdarno's COOP for more extensive shopping
Tips or Restaurants:
The meal we enjoyed at Locanda Antiqua Borga, in Lucolena, was one of the most enjoyable meals of the trip. Try the prosciutto D'oca - unlike anything we have ever had before. We had good meals in Greve but our favorite find in Greve was at the Gelateria on the Main street. Our group voted it the best we found. We appreciated the advice to catch the train from Figline to Firenze - much easier than trying to drive, and inexpensive. As others indicated, it took much more time to drive through the hills of the Chianti than we imagined - we were a little too ambitious in our planning. We made use of the Road Runners service that was included with our voucher packet. The information was excellent and made for some wonderful day trips. We would return to the same villa at the drop of a hat. As one of our group stated it, the worst day at the Villa was better than the best day ever had at Napa.
Directions:
As others indicated - do yourself a favor and arrive during the daytime. We choose to get to the villa via Autostrada-1 exiting at Incisa. This saved a fair amount of time, as we were travelling from Roma.

Overall:
We hope to send you some photos. This place is wonderfully furnished and appointed. Wine, olive oil and delicacies on the premises. We also did not understand that there were several other smaller apartments attached to the large Villa house, sleeping 4-6 each. We toured them, they are beautiful. A 1000-year old house is up on the hill, still occupied by the resident farmer. A huge patio with outdoor fire grill, lit up at night like the Forum! We're coming back!
Enjoyed Most:
We had 14 people 12 on the property, 2 visitors on site, and we had room for all. Bathrooms were great. Kitchen was a dream for large group cooking. Our hostess was most accomodating. I wish now we would have invited their family to join us at their house!
Enjoyed Least:
We had a hard time understanding the washing machine. One couple stayed in and did laundry, and it took the whole day! Just not the same as here...... The Villa has a laundry and shower room for pool users, completely stocked! We just needed a lesson in operating the machine.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding areas were beautiful. However, we did not account for the time it takes to drive even a short distance on winding roads. And of course, we stopped at EVERY turn to take breathtaking photos. I thought we would encounter SOME picturesque areas, but it is all quintessential Tuscany!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. Yes, about 1.5 miles. The best pizza I have EVER had is there, in the basement below a tiny bar in the town square. We were directed there by the Villa's owner. My favorite town was Greve in Chianti. Old town square, lovely artisan shops, wine cellar, store, and museum, and beautiful to boot!
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are planning to cook in, plan a few receipes in advance, and bring along the small items. This worked well for us. There is an American coffeemaker Yes! in this Villa. Study your maps before you go! Get directions from city destinations so you take the shortest way in. We lost a lot of time orientating ourselves as we traveled. The maps provided are extremely helpful, but you must look at them before you miss your turn!
Directions:
It is wise to navigate during daylight on the way in! Thanks for the great maps. It may help to know that there is hardly ever advance warning i.e. road signs before you reach your destination or turn.
Check In Out:
We had a thorough tour, except for the washing machine. Our hostess was very kind to come early for check out, as we were on to Rome for the weekend. Settling up accounts was friendly and easily accomplished.

Overall:
I would return in a minute. It was a wonderful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was beautiful and surpassed my expectations. The setting was lovely and we found the location to be perfect for driving to many of the Tuscan towns we wanted to visit.
Enjoyed Least:
Those who slept in the front of the house were awakened early every morning by roosters crowing and dogs barking. We had rented two cars and renters should be aware that you must have a car or be grounded for the week. I do not even think you could get to the villa without an automobile.
Surrounding Area:
The location of the villa was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed the towns that were within driving distance such as Pisa, Greve, Montefioralle, San Gimignano, and Volterra. not to be missed. We took a train into Florence on two different days and, though we had been there before, it is a beautiful city that has so much to offer - food, art, architecture, history, shopping - that we continue to return time and time again. We also took a tour of a winery and went to a wine tasting. The important decision each day was whether to stay at our lovely villa or travel through the countryside to visit the beautiful hill towns of Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There is a small town nearby that is within walking distance and groceries were available. I cannot remember the name of the town.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa was equipped with everything that you could need - microwave, a fully equipped kitchen. washer, dryer, iron and ironing board, etc. We ate at two wonderful restaurants nearby - about a 20-minute drive Ristorante Locanda Borgo Antico in Greve and a pizza place much closer. The woman who owns the villa is very helpful and will provide information about local eating places.
Directions:
We had written directions and a map and had no trouble finding it. I could see that you would have a problem if you arrived later at night when it was dark.
