Customer Reviews

Overall:
Very pretty location. Very nice set up with bathrooms for almost every bedroom.
Enjoyed Most:
The large rooms, large dining room table with plenty of space for large groups to gather in. Bedrooms very nice size, bathrooms nice.
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of appliance plugs in kitchen. Unreliable WiFi. Location more remote than expected.
Surrounding Area:
Closeness to Santa Brigida, very nice people there who were very helpful. The wonderful pizza place in Santa Brigida. Also the restaurants in and around the area. The winery close by to visit and tour. Great wines.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida was closest. Several of us walked there daily and it felt very convenient.
Tips or Restaurants:
Rent small cars. We requested 4 passenger vans and got 8 passenger vans which were rough to drive on narrow roads. Lots of restaurants all around.
Directions:
Directions are great but no one should visit the area without a GPS. We had one for all three vans.
Check In Out:
Went very well.

Barb, October

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
Great view.
Enjoyed Least:
WiFi was in separate building (as stated in the description) and was slow. Lack of power outlets was inconvenient in the kitchen. The washing machine is small and only has instructions in Italian. The cycle in slow and, as stated in description, there is no dryer. Editor's Note: Washing machines in Europe are energy/water efficient, and therefore slow. Dryers, unless indicated, are not available--also due to energy reasons. October, 2015.
Surrounding Area:
View and close proximity to the small winery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida is the nearest town. It's walkable, but only for individuals in excellent physical condition - uphill on narrow mountain roads - 4 of 12 people elected to walk to town several mornings for coffee.
Tips or Restaurants:
Determine which restaurants are open on which days - that is more of a challenge than the quality of food served. We rented vans as we had a large group and needed to get to the train station for day trips; the vans was inconvenient for travel on narrow roads. Smaller vehicles are recommended.
Directions:
Used GPS with Latitude/Longitude provided. Worked fine.
Check In Out:
It was fairly straightforward.

C, October

Overall:
We had a absolutely fabulous time. The villa was beautiful and charming.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was absolutely beautiful, with olive groves and a great view of Castle Del Trebbio and the surrounding Tuscan hillsides. Its proximity to Santa Brigida and the Seici train station was a bonus.
Enjoyed Least:
The fact that there was no clothes dryer (as we'd read in the description) and the refrigerator was inadequate for 12 to 14 guests. Also, we needed more towels than were provided.
Surrounding Area:
The many hillside towns, gorgeous vistas, wonderful restaurants, the winery just steps away.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida was about 2 miles from the villa. A very nice walk...mostly uphill.
Tips or Restaurants:
Yes, the winery's restaurant was very good, also, fantastic food at IL Pozzo in Cortona...don't miss it if you go there.
Directions:
A GPS is essential for travel to the Villa and for daily excursions to nearby towns. The coordinates given were right on and we did not have a problem finding the Villa.
Check In Out:
It was very easy. Alberto is a great host and was available to answer questions we had.

Frank, October

Overall:
The entire property is amazing. The views are breathtaking. I really wanted to do a bit less sightseeing and spend more time enjoying the villa.
Enjoyed Most:
Eight of us went from my family and we all had plenty of privacy when needed with so many rooms and living areas to choose from. We were also excited about seeing deer on the property early in the morning.
Surrounding Area:
The villa was very quiet and peaceful. The castle was charming and the tour very informative. We were far enough away from Florence to enjoy the countryside but only a cab drive away from all the activities.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida was the nearest town. It was quite a walk up hill but very charming. We shopped at the grocery store to stock up on a few things for the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just be sure to get some groceries before and soon after you arrive at the villa. We hired a chef for two evening dinners and that turned out to be an excellent idea. The meals were delicious and we were tired from visits to Rome and Venice so being pampered felt great.
Directions:
We didn't have too many problems. We gave as a reference the castle name and address to the cab drivers.
Check In Out:
We arrived late due to our plane being delayed. Alberto was very helpful in our check in. He made our stay most excellent.

Judy , May

Overall:
A fantastic property with excellent facilities in a fabulous location. Perfect!
Enjoyed Most:
The views outside were breathtaking!
Surrounding Area:
Again, the scenery was stunning.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida was a short walk ( 2 miles approx) but it was all uphill so not suitable for those who would find this challenging.
Tips or Restaurants:
Purchase toilet paper as only one roll is provided in each bathroom. A 4-slice toaster would be a lovely addition.
Directions:
GPS was not successful in finding this property; best to contact the property manager Alberto (phone number on voucher) for instruction once you are in the area.
Check In Out:
Super smooth thanks to Alberto and his excellent staff.

Clare, May

Overall:
Absolutely amazing!
Enjoyed Most:
The rustic Tuscan interior and huge amount of space!
Enjoyed Least:
The dim lighting in some on the bathrooms.
Surrounding Area:
The walks and beautiful views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
It's was within walking distance but with children you must drive!
Tips or Restaurants:
Your own towels for the swimming pool.
Directions:
More signage, however the villa is fairly well sign-posted already.
Check In Out:
Pack the night before check out to make it easier.

April, May

Overall:
I booked Casa Rufina as a place for my fiancée and I and our relatives when we got married in Florence. The property and its location are stunning. It fulfilled all my hopes and left our guests spellbound. A fantastic experience for everyone.
Enjoyed Most:
There was no one thing that I loved above all else, it was perfect, the location, the decor, the utensils, it was a delight.
Surrounding Area:
Peace, tranquility, beautiful scenery and the wonderful Alberto who was always so helpful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida is about 2 km away. We walked it but it's all uphill on the way there so it was hard work on the way but easy on the way home!
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring toilet paper rolls and plenty of soap/shampoo products as the free samples did not last long.
Directions:
If you get stuck call Alberto the property manager; he is an Italian Mary Poppins and seems to manage everything! A brilliant, kind, polite and very capable gentleman.
Check In Out:
No. All went very smoothly.

Clare, May

Overall:
An absolute dream, the entire experience was amazing and the property and ground were beautiful!
Enjoyed Most:
The views and the swimming pool were perfect! But every single part of the property was of the highest quality!
Enjoyed Least:
The fact that there is only WiFi in one room of the property, however it wasn't a problem as we were enjoying the beautiful outside most of the time!
Surrounding Area:
Exploring the local vineyards, olive groves and finding the little village up the road!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest village was uphill and you could walk it, however if you needed shopping you had to take the car!
Tips or Restaurants:
Remember plug adapters!
Directions:
We used a taxi service all week and they were brilliant, always on time and found the property will no problems.
Check In Out:
Check out is quite early so remember to pack the night before!

April, May

Overall:
Outstanding for a large group. I would stay there again.
Enjoyed Most:
The views of the vineyards and olive trees.
Surrounding Area:
The local towns and the morning coffee.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida and yes, but an uphill walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
For a true small town eating adventure, Nappino Ristorante Pizzeria. 055 8300439. Via Sergio Chiari 1 50065 Santa Brigida (Fl) Great place to eat.
Directions:
Directions were fine.
Check In Out:
Process was easy and Alberto was very helpful with everything we needed.

Tim, September

Overall:
Great getaway.
Enjoyed Most:
Seclusion and surroundings.
Surrounding Area:
Peace and quiet. Felt like we were a million miles away
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely plan on a car for transportation.
Check In Out:
Alberto was wonderful.

Ted, September

Overall:
Remarkable. Truly loved our stay.
Enjoyed Most:
The space overall was great. All the rooms were large (including bedrooms, dining rooms). Also, the property was very secluded and private.
Enjoyed Least:
The restaurant affiliated with the villa provided unsatisfactory service. We had 8 people dining and at one point we got up to retrieve our own wine and other items needed. While the food was great, the service certainly requires improvements.
Surrounding Area:
Loved the town right up the road. The locals were so friendly.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Up the road was St. Brigid and down the road was Sieci where you catch the train. Neither are within walking distance.

Barb, September

Overall:
It was a very good experience in a lovely home and setting, and the owners, and especially the property manager, Alberto, were very friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
The outdoor patio overlooking the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitoes were in full force, and all of us had bites. Some from eating meals on the outside patio, but many came in the house because of gaps in the screens or lack of screens on doors and windows had no screens.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful landscape of olive groves and vineyards and the castle below. And it was easy to travel to the small hillside towns and villages by car, or take the train into Florence from the Sieci station.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida was close by for a few hearty walkers, but it is best to drive on the steep and curvey road.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bug repellent and citronella candles if you plan to eat outside. The Castle Trebbio nearby had excellent food and service and the small pizzeria in Santa Brigida was good and inexpensive.

Maureen, October

Overall:
Everyone was really pleased, thought it was a great value.
Enjoyed Most:
Loved the views and the solitude.
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were hard and the showers were tiny.
Surrounding Area:
Liked it being close to Florence and accessible to to other areas, but very peaceful.
Tips or Restaurants:
It's a great place to gather together in the evenings for dinner. We thought we'd eat out every evening, but ended up back at the villa for 4 out of 7 because of the ambiance.

Pandra, September

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. The property is beautiful and the owner is very cordial.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting is fantastic. It was hot in July, so the pool was a wonderful addition for the kids and adults. The rooms are comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
Everyone comments about mosquitoes and it is true - just arrive prepared and it will be fine. The villa has a lot of stairs - and some are uneven in height, so if you have anyone in your group for whom this could be a problem, get some more details.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigeda is the nearest small town - it is within walking distance, but it is a very steep hill to get to the town, and not reasonable for everyone to walk - you need to be a bit fit.
Tips or Restaurants:
The pizzeria in Santa Brigeda is a great - and reasonably priced. And, they have far more than pizza - good pasta and entree menu. The restaurant at the winery on the property is more expensive, but really an incredible meal, and worth doing at least once during your stay. You definitely will need to rent a car for this location - the bus was not at all reliable.

Sarah, July

Enjoyed Most:
Location, pool, dining areas, inside and out. Fireflies and bats swooping past the terrace in the evening. Interesting wine tour and fantastic meal at the castle restaurant within easy walking distance of the villa.
Enjoyed Least:
Only able to use one socket in the kitchen at a time, as only one adaptor for kettle and toaster. Very hard water area so needed to descale kettle every time we used it
Surrounding Area:
Walks in the countryside, convenient location for Florence and other small Tuscan towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida, 20 minutes walk so unsuitable for most people to walk back from the excellent pizzeria, Nappilothere. The 'village shop' is open on Sunday mornings and has a good range of commodities and was helpful
Tips or Restaurants:
Free parking at the railway station at Siechi made easy work of trips to Florence. The trains run at least once an hour, although not necessarily on time, but the announcements and ticket machines are dual language. Don't miss out on a meal in the castle restaurant, they were so helpful in accommodating our requirements and the food was delicious.

Veronica, May

Overall:
Wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything. It's hard to say one thing because the entire experience was great.
Enjoyed Least:
It might have been nice to have two main keys so that we didn't feel like we all had to go out as a group, or have to leave someone behind.
Surrounding Area:
It was just simply great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida is up a long, and steep hill.
Tips or Restaurants:
Future renters don't need to bring anything. The house was well equipped. We found that having decks of cards provided hours of entertainment at night. Do try the restaurant Torre al Sasso, but go on a weekend when the restaurant is open. The pizzeria is great too, but tends to get loud. The Trattoria in Santa Brigida was great, as well.

Allyndreth, May

Overall:
Fantastic place to go with a family or group of friends. Lots of room to spread out, yet still eat and hang out together. It was a great place to stay and see many of the small towns in Tuscany. We visisted Lucca, Pisa, Siena, Fiesole and Poggibonsi, as well as Florence, and was a nice contrast to the millions of people in Florence.
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful vistas! Everything was very clean and tidy - bathrooms were big and the kitchen was well stocked. We utilized the patio for almost all of our meals - wonderful size! We loved that there was a well-stocked wine cellar in the villa - we just paid for what we drank at the end of the stay. I can't imagine staying anywhere better!
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were very hard but that was the case everywhere we stayed in Italy.
Surrounding Area:
The Castle Trebbio was beautiful - the wine and olive oil tour were fantastic. Our hosts were very helpful and friendly. The area was quiet and scenic, and just beautiful. The small towns in the area were a nice contrast to the busy and crowded city of Florence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Santa Brigida was the nearest small town about 1.5 miles up the hill from the villa. We walked there, but it was quite a hike as it was all uphill. The other towns we visited were Sieci and Pontassieve. We would drive to Sieci about 10 min. drive and take the train into Florence, which was very convienient. To get grocieries, we would drive to Pontassieve, which was about a 15 min. drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant at the Castle Trebbio was fantastic! Reservations are imperative as it is small, and it's only open Wed. - Sunday. We also found a very good Italian restaurant called Torre al Sasso located in Molino del Piano, which wasn't far from the villa. As it was a local establishment, our server did not speak English at all. But, they did have a menu that was partially translated into English. Bring bug spray for hanging out on the patio or near the pool. We had to buy detergent for the washer. There is no dryer, so be prepared to hang your clothes out to dry. Also, bring salt and pepper for cooking at the villa.

Maureen, October

Enjoyed Most:
We were very pleased with the property.
Enjoyed Least:
The stairs would be difficult for elderly people.
Surrounding Area:
The incredible countryside and the friendly people
