Customer Reviews

Overall:
The property was very nice.
Enjoyed Most:
The surrounding area was gorgeous. We took walks along the road and saw the other homes. Once we figured out the area we were able to explore local medieval towns, do some wine tasting and shopping. There were incredible sunsets. It was nice to sit out on the small porch, have a glass of wine, or eat our meals.
Enjoyed Least:
The house was very cold. It took over 24 hours for us to figure out how to turn the heaters on and get them to work. Also, we only got one set of towels which were extremely light. We requested more towels at an added expense, but they were not delivered for a day and a half. The kitchen had a small counter top oven and no microwave. It was not until the last day that the folks at the wine tasting told us where the wood was to start a fire, so we did not have a fire all week. Editor's Note: Instructions for operating the heaters - in English - will be available at the property for the 2016 season. November, 2015.
Surrounding Area:
We loved exploring the medieval towns, Monterosso, Castellina, San Gimignano, Siena, fun to go to the castles, wine tasting, learning about history of the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
7 miles away. No, nothing was in walking distance except the winery that was in Lilliano, and part of the overall estate of our villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
There was a fantastic restaurant in Castellina. It is run by an older women who has owned the restaurant for 48 years....inherited from her father. Fantastic food and experience. To bring....warm clothes for the inside of the home. Also, it would be helpful to do some research on the area before you arrive; we didn't know much about the nearest town and there was no mention of it in the house book.
Directions:
The directions to the winery were pretty good. We got there without a GPS. We did use GPS for all of our day trips, and that worked pretty well. I would recommend using a GPS to get through the cities. Travelers should be aware that coming from Florence, there are toll roads, and to get into the correct lanes as quickly as possible.
Check In Out:
Check in, we met the folks at the winery. The gal there spoke great English. However the man who drove us to the villa, did not speak any English. He did not tell us about the firewood, or that we could build a fire--and he did not show us how to use the heaters.

Overall:
Fantastic! The property exceeded our expectations. The views were amazing and the property was very comfortable. We also had the chef dinner prepared at our villa - it was an amazing experience and one of the highlights of our trip.
Enjoyed Most:
Loved the views, the pool area, the fireplace. Loved the location within tuscany - great for day trips.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside is like a postcard - just spectacular. The roads are narrow and curvy - but worth it. Fantastic food everywhere you go. Great wine.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The closest town was Castellina in Chianti. Although very quaint and picturesque - it isn't walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a very good restaurant at La Casina di Lilliano - just up the road. We also really enjoyed Osteria Patececi da Sonia in Castellina. It is also easy to find and great food. We brought card games and played most evenings while drinking wine. It was a fun trip.
Directions:
This property was very easy to find. We did use GPS, but the signs were easy to find and well marked. The roads were good and we never had any issues - even in pouring rainstorms.
Check In Out:
Check in and out was easy.

Overall:
It was the greatest!!
Enjoyed Most:
Location, view, pool, and people.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing, it was perfect.
Surrounding Area:
It was beautiful. Just what you envision.
Nearby Events or Locales:
A long walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Loved having the women come prepare a meal in our villa. They were adorable and the food was delicious. Great bargain!
Directions:
No problem with directions. Used GPS.
Check In Out:
Went very well.

Overall:
Very good experience. Neat property, and location. About a full hour drive from Florence as we arrived via high speed train to Florence.
Enjoyed Most:
Great views, and very private.
Enjoyed Least:
The only real problem was the weather, as it turned cold right before we got there, and it stayed that way for the 6 days we were there. Consequently we incurred some discomfort as they are not prepared to heat the house which is quite large. Two small portable heaters is all they had, which means that the entire house was pretty cold especially at night. We also used the fireplace, however there was no flue in the chimney so the house became very smoky.
Surrounding Area:
Just a great area. Heart of the Chianti region so the wine tasting is just excellent. Also the small towns in the area are just wonderful, particularly Castellina In Chianti, it is very pretty, great restaurants, and charm.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina In Chianti is about 5 km from the house.
Tips or Restaurants:
The issue of heat needs to be addressed is you are staying in the late fall as we did. None of the items would be an issue in warmer weather.
Directions:
We did use GPS, and the directions provided were also good.

Overall:
Rosalia 2 is worth the price. Good value for the money....but it is not fancy and it would exceed expectations if a few low cost additions were added. Charge 50 Euros more and provide real fluffy bath towels instead of non-terry cloth towels, have dishwashing liquid on site and provide more than one roll of toilet tissue per bathroom per rental period. Provide pool towel with the rental fee instead of charging extra for them. Sharp knives and a working sharp scissors are essential as are improved mattresses. Provide a complete change of towels and bed linen mid-week.
Enjoyed Most:
The location is excellent - just 6 Km from Castellina. The pool and deck are wonderful. And the views over the Tuscan countryside are magical. Sunsets are magnificent.
Enjoyed Least:
I know it's a weekly rental, but the property needs to provide some little 'extras' like dish washing liquid, extra toilet tissue and a coffee machine. The local contact, Iolanda, speaks no English....a big drawback as you will need to talk to her some time during your stay about any requests. All the windows need screens-not just the bedrooms. The front door needs an outer screen door to allow air and people to enter/exit without the door locking behind you.
Surrounding Area:
Surrounding area is fabulous - right out of a travelogue. Several very good restaurants are only a 10 minute drive away in Castellina. We recommend "Torre", the Tower on the same square as Castellina's famous tower.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is located halfway between Castellina Scalo and Castellina in Chianti in a little rural community called Lilliano. You need a car to stay here.
Tips or Restaurants:
Go to some wine tasting early in your trip as you are sure to find some bargains... You don't want to find that great bargain on your last day like we did. You must visit the Rocca della Macie winery about 4 km on the road to Castellina. They have a great Chianti Classico for 8 euros and a very good table wine for 2.50 euros. They also run a restaurant that is the Tuscan training center for the chefs of the US chain "The Olive Garden". Go there for dinner. It is only 4-5 km from Rosalia 2, but is all dirt road and one blind hill is one-way traffic and controlled by a traffic light. A car outfitted with GPS is a must. You'll can take your own but be sure to download an Italian map to it. Costs about 60 to do this.

Overall:
We loved the property. Total peace and quiet. The views were outstanding - 360 all around. The house was clean and well stocked. And the location is perfect. There were many great restaurants and villages all within a 5-40 minute drive in Castellina in Chianti, Radda, Greve, Piazza, Panzano, Lamole, Monterrigioni, Siena.
Enjoyed Most:
The location, the pool area great for cocktails in the evenings before dinner.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen.
Surrounding Area:
Fantastic walking....we walked 10 K everyday on gravel roads with beautiful views all around. Incredibly beautiful scenery. We have been to italy over a dozen times and to Tuscany about 5 times and it was our favorite location.
Nearby Events or Locales:
No towns within walking distance. Castellina in Chianti was closest and is so lovely with at least 5 restaurants and the best gelato in all of Tuscany. We were told by the locals that people drive from Florence for their gelato.
Tips or Restaurants:
Some great restaurants: Ristoro Lamole in Lamole, Il Torrione several km from the house down the gravel road, La Torre in Castellina, La Piazza in Piazza, La Botte di Bacco in Radda, Al Chiasso dei Portici in Radda - one of our favorites.
Check In Out:
It was very easy, although the lovely woman who checked us in couldn't speak any English, but we seemed to manage just fine. Everyone in the office was extremely helpful.

Overall:
Everyone in our party loved the villa.
Enjoyed Most:
That it was in the heart of Tuscany.
Enjoyed Least:
Having to wash clothes at a shared laundry on the estate - not at the house itself.
Surrounding Area:
Vineyards and the rolling hills.
Tips or Restaurants:
Most of the restaurants and pizzerias in Castellina in Chianti are very good. Can't go wrong with any of them near the church and piazza. If you get a chance to go to Panzano, go to Mac Dario and eat. Dario Cecchini's place. You'll love it. Also visit Accademia del Buon Gusto. Look for the big Black Rooster standing outside.
Check In Out:
We arrived around 4:30 PM and went right to the villa. Two bottles of the local wine and one bottle of olive oil were on the table for us as a house warming gift.

Richard, October

Overall:
Everyone we met was delightful and helpful. If you are looking for someone to hold your hand and guide you every day, then this isn't' the place for you. If you want to be on your own, but can find someone down the road in the office if needed, then this is the place for you. After we checked in and got the key that first day, we did not see anyone until it was time to check out at the end of the week - by our choice.
Enjoyed Most:
Location was Divine! Beautiful views, plenty of space. The living room was a great place for all of us to gather and talk about the day's events and plan for the next day. Kitchen was used every day - well equipped. We had 6 people staying in the villa and we never felt crowded or in each other's way. Breakfast on the front patio overlooking the vineyards - or sipping wine at sunset was a favorite spot. Extra blankets kept us cozy as nights; it got cool mid-October. Heaters were provided but we never had to use them. The fireplace was used and greatly appreciated.
Enjoyed Least:
The driveway was a little steep. The laundry was not an easy task. Washing was fine, but the drying never really happened, even after hours in the dryer. Plan on washing and hanging out to dry - if you plan on doing any laundry. Clearer instructions on the machines in English may have been helpful.
Surrounding Area:
Proximity and easy access to historical towns. The actual property was enormous. We walked around olive trees and grapevines as far as we could see. A quaint little country road was pleasant to walk along and explore the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti - not really within walking distance. About a 10 minute drive. A lovely town well worth the visit. Very small but delightful.
Tips or Restaurants:
Sponge was helpful, as well as ziplock bags for storage and leftovers. Kitchen was well equipped. We had all our breakfasts and most of our dinners there, cooking ourselves after shopping in the local towns. While there is so much to see and do which is easily accessed from this location, plan on giving yourself some "down time" to enjoy the villa and property itself. We drove to most locations within an hour or just to Siena - 20 minutes. Volterra is a little over an hour, but taking the train from Castalina Scala to Florence worked wonderfully and was less stressful than trying to drive into Florence. Better yet, get your time in Florence done before or after your villa stay!
