Customer Reviews

Overall:
A wonderful, peaceful place in the country. The "town" is Lilliano, but there's not much to it.
Enjoyed Most:
The swimming pool was GREATLY appreciated.
Enjoyed Least:
Cooking facilities are pretty rustic.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the views, the peacefulness. The villa is part of a small wine-making estate. The wine is quite good - and one of the labels features a view of this villa (one of three in the area.)
Nearby Events or Locales:
Two towns are close by, not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Best restaurants are in Castellina, just up the road.

Overall:
I felt like I died and went to heaven. The Property exceeded my wildest expectations!
Enjoyed Most:
The view and location of the property in relation to its immediate surroundings within the estate and in relation to the nearest town, which was 5 km or 7 minutes from the house by car. If one must play tourist and visit all the incredible sites of the region all are by car within an hour or two of the property. You can use the bus from Castellina to get places, but it takes 3x longer to get anywhere and the bus schedules are limited.
Enjoyed Least:
The property was perfect. No complaints.
Surrounding Area:
The view, the variety of long walks for exploring the immediate area. Bring a bird book. The area is filled with exotic birds we wanted to identify.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti is not more than an easy 7 minutes by car. The road is hilly with no shoulder for safe walking.
Tips or Restaurants:
We bought food at local shops and cooked at home so we could drink the local Chianti without worrying about driving home from restaurants. When we did eat out, the Trattoria la Torre, one of the few restaurants in town, was good and frequented by both locals and tourists. Prices were above average but not unreasonable for the area. Closed on Fridays. We attended an amazing community banquet for 200 people catered by the Albergaccio di Castellina. When I go back I want to find the Albergaccio and eat there. Other good restaurants can be found an easy drive away in Radda and San Donato. The tourist information office in Castellina is staffed by fabulous women who took excellent care of us. We came to see them as our own personal concierge. They answered every question we had and even called the property manager when I first arrived and wasn't quite sure how to find the property or the property manager.

Overall:
Onsight staff was helpful and the wines and olive oil were delicious....there is even a sketch of the house on one of labels called Spazzavento.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, tranquil setting, wildlife pheasant, wild boar, quail, proximity to charming Castellina in Chianti, ability to experience life on a working wine-olive oil estate, easy access to Tuscan hill towns, as well as Siena and Florence, were all highlights of our stay!
Enjoyed Least:
The beetles and ants...plus the beds weren't extremely comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
The house is in the heart of Chianti wine country and close to many picturesque hill towns. We enjoyed taking day trips to towns like Monteriggioni, Radda, Greve, Siena, Cortona, Volterra, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Arezzo and of course Florence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti is the nearest town - about 6 minutes by car - and is a wonderful place to be near. The town is not only beautiful but has everything one could need - a market, smaller specialty markets, some good restaurants and delicious gelato! It is not within walking distance because of being at the top of a steep hill and on a road with no shoulder and FAST Italian drivers.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a portable music player, insect swatter, a sharp knife or two - the cutlery was duller than a butter knife! Two favorite restaurants Il Pozzo in Monteriggioni and La Vigne just outside of Radda in Chianti. Once at the house, ask the staff to arrange for "Dora" to cook a meal at the house - a trip highlight for sure!
