Overall:
Casa Luciana was perfect for the four couple who stayed there. It was a gorgeous place and actually had 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. Loved it!!
Enjoyed Most:
It was so big, we could have privacy if we wanted to, the view was fantastic and it was in the perfect location to the places we wanted to see.
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of hot water at times, but maybe we didn't know how it worked.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area was so pretty, the hills with vineyards everywhere were so pretty.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti was the closest small town and also where we got our groceries. No, you must drive to it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring washcloth and a bar of soap, your own shampoo. They supply a small bar of soap but you may prefer a larger one. Get your groceries (especially for breakfast) before getting there on Saturday. Grocery store is closed on Sundays. Castellina has a wonderful restaurant Ristorante Albergaccio di Castellina. Call for reservation.
Directions:
We used a Garmin GPS with Italy maps and it took us to the estate where you check in and then a person will lead you to Casa Luciana with the keys. A very helpful online book is "Tuscany by Car", which has all the coordinates for every place in Chianti which can be uploaded to your GPS. Very, very helpful!!
Check In Out:
The check in was so easy, we even had a wine tasting while we were there. We put our security deposit down in Euros cash when we checked in and a lady came to return it to us Friday morning. Very simple and easy!

Nancy, October

Overall:
We were seven adults and the villa was more than spacious to accommodate us. From arrival to departure we could not find a fault.
Enjoyed Most:
Its central location to all of Tuscany and its serenity its comfort.
Enjoyed Least:
We quickly adapted to the Italian version of a "clothes dryer".
Surrounding Area:
Visiting all of the hill towns and vineyards
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti was our closest destination (about 4 miles) unable to walk since the dirt road to the main road was about 1/2 mile, and once on the road, too narrow to walk safely
Tips or Restaurants:
Toilet paper is always a useful commodity to have. We dined in Castellina at the Le Tre Porte and had a marvellous dinner with a very attentive wait staff. If you go to Casa Liciana, please give Dora an opportunity to create a most delicious Tuscan dining experience for you; she provided a five-course dinner for us on two evenings (our first and last) and we were not disappointed.
Directions:
GPS is essential. Just finding some of the remote towns/vineyards (Volpaia comes to mind) would not have been possible without it
Check In Out:
The process was seamless with a fine wine tasting awaiting us.

Bill, October

Overall:
We had a great experience and would recommend it to friends.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the view, the veranda, the pool, and the spaciousness of the villa. We loved Dora!!
Enjoyed Least:
The lighting was very dim throughout the villa.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the vineyards, the beautiful scenery, and the peacefulness.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lilliano was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring spices that you like and bags for storing leftovers.
Directions:
Be sure to tell them that they need to look for the Lilliano sign to find the office.
Check In Out:
The check in was somewhat confusing as there were many people trying to get checked in at the same time and there was a big language barrier. Check out went well.

James, September

Overall:
I could not imagine a better value for the money nor a more relaxing place in all of Tuscany. With three generations of our family in one house, I expected some calamity. The layout was fantastic with enough areas to keep the kids separated from one another when necessary.
Enjoyed Most:
The entire house felt designed by us, for us. The vistas from the patio and the pool area are breathtaking.
Enjoyed Least:
The MiFi device we rented provided spotty service and almost no reception inside the house. I wish there was WiFi there.
Surrounding Area:
Right in the heart of Tuscany. Under an hour to Florence, Siena, Radda, San Gimignano, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lilliano, but only a tenuta and a cantina are there. It's about 1 km from the villa. Castellina in Chianti is about 7 km from the villa so a bit far to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
If possible, bring your own kitchen knives. Dora, the local chef, is a wonderful find, be sure to schedule her for a dinner or two.
Directions:
I did use a GPS which got me to the villa, but I needed to know that the office (with the WiFi) was on the right and the Tenuta was on the left.
Check In Out:
Regarding check-in, three different renters all arrived at around the same time, so the delay was understandable. The staff person made the checkout a snap, settling the account the day before we left.

Bill, June

Overall:
Our large group greatly enjoyed our stay in the villa. It served as a hub for each group as we fanned out on day trips. It was always a pleasure to return to the comfort of the villa at the end of the day.
Enjoyed Most:
We appreciated the various living areas and the comfort of the bedrooms and baths. We enjoyed cooking for ourselves most evenings, but we did have the property's cook, Dora, fix us two lovely meals. We were surprised to learn how inexpensive her services were.
Surrounding Area:
We greatly enjoyed the views of the surrounding countryside from the villa. The pool area was beautiful but a bit too cool for use in early October. We enjoyed exploring the smaller towns in the immediate area as well as some of the wineries in Chianti.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti is the nearest town but not within walking distance. If your group enjoys wine, seek out the winery in town that will fill your bottles or it sells inexpensive but very drinkable Chianti by the liter in box containers.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa was well-equipped with laundry and kitchen supplies, pool towels, etc. They also provided two bottle of estate wine and olive oil. If you intend to cook, be sure to bring recipes and small amounts of flour, spices, or other ingredients that typically are sold in larger quantities. There is a Coop (grocery store) in Castellina.
Directions:
The directions were actually to the place we checked in (at the estate tasting room) rather than to the property itself. Because the group came in at different times, that became a problem for the group arriving a day later (Sunday when the tasting room was closed). Thankfully they asked around until they found it.
Check In Out:
They were friendly and helpful with everything.

Gail and T.J., October

Overall:
Excellent. 10 out of 10.
Enjoyed Most:
Quiet and peaceful, situated on a hilltop with magnificent views in all four directions, an infinity pool, a beautiful facility of about 4,500 square feet, and best of all--Dora for eight 5-course dinners. The average costs for these feasts was about 22 Euros per couple.
Enjoyed Least:
Kitchen needs better lighting and updating. The washing machine was an adventure.
Surrounding Area:
Small Chianti towns were best, but the larger cities of Florence and Siena were a short ride.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti was a three mile drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
You will enjoy it.
Check In Out:
Three bottles of Chianti, one olive oil, and one balsalmic were awaiting us when we arrived---we were in heaven. Our deposit was returned one day early. Maid servive occurred every day but Sunday. The two people who performed this duty were affable and entertaining.

Fred, September

Overall:
Our family of 11 (seven adults and four teenagers) had a wonderful week at Casa Luciana.
Enjoyed Most:
The house is spacious, well furnished, very comfortable and has all modern conveniences and appliances. The dinner prepared by Dora on our first night was excellent. The infinity pool at the end of the day was a welcome sight.
Enjoyed Least:
The A/C did not work in five bedrooms on a couple of days, and not for one bedroom for four days. This was during a heat wave, with temperatures in the mid to high 90's every day. A couple of fans helped somewhat. Screens on bedroom windows would have made the rooms much more comfortable when there was no A/C. Editor's Note: The air conditioning has been repaired. June 2012.
Surrounding Area:
The privacy, peace and quite, and awesome views particularly at sunset.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti, about 10 minutes away by car, is a great little town with some nice restaurants, shops, grocery stores, a Saturday market, and gelato. Siena is some 20 to 30 minutes away.
Tips or Restaurants:
Renting in spring or early fall would be safer choices for weather.
Directions:
Directions got us easily to the office for the start of check in. Use of coordinates in a GPS worked also.
Check In Out:
It went smoothly, even with a bit of a language barrier. Staff was friendly and tried to be very helpful.

Frank, June

Overall:
We all had a great time! The pool and the house exceeded our expectations!
Enjoyed Most:
The pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The rooms were warm and the pillows uncomfortable.
Surrounding Area:
Touring the surrounding towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti--not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are serious about cooking, I would bring your own knives, but the kitchen was stocked well for simple meals.
Directions:
I believe we had the coordinates and found the house easily.
Check In Out:
The check in was very pleasant as we tasted wine and olive oil at the same time!

Michelle, June

Overall:
Terrific.
Enjoyed Most:
Size.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Scalo is the nearest town, but it is not walkable.

John, September

Overall:
Overall, we had an amazing time at Casa Luciana. A beautiful home with amazing views as well as internal spaces. The pool was a thrill. The location perfect for daily sightseeing and private relaxation. The managing staff was extremely helpful and welcoming.
Enjoyed Most:
Wow, I struggle to keep my comments brief. The house is huge, well kept, but welcoming. The surrounding countryside is extraordinary - every window has a view! The pool is gorgeous - such a treat to swim every day.
Enjoyed Least:
Such small quibbles, but please ask the owners to get rid of the yellow coffee pot - it leaks terribly and one of our guests received a nasty shock! Also, the downstairs bathroom window is broken and made for some noisy nights.
Surrounding Area:
A wonderful location for exploring Tuscany. A gracious, relaxing, well appointed home to return to. A well stocked kitchen, lovely to cook in.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chainti is a picturesque 10-minute drive up the mountain. Perfect for grocery/wine shopping with some nice cafes/restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely ask for at least one meal with Dora - she is a fantastic cook and got our vacation off to a perfect start!
Check In Out:
Taken care of the day before on a timely basis, with a smile!

Mary , September

Enjoyed Most:
The location and the views and the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
The wineries and the countryside and small Tuscan towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti was a short drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
The place was well stocked- I would recommend asking locals where they go and discover your own places- they turned out to be our best discoveries.

Dale, May

Overall:
We had a wonderful time at the villa. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was one person who spoke English which facilitated our checking in and learning all the necessary info for operating there. He answered all questions patiently and with genial courtesy.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was amazing. From the top of hill one saw vineyards and olive groves all around. No noticeable people activity nearby. Just distant farm equipment moving along. So scenic. We walked out early every day just to see the sun move along the vistas.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen had no light directly over the sink where needed to ensure clean dishes!
Surrounding Area:
Access to many hill towns within an hour to 1 1/2 hours. We loved going into Castellina in Chianti for breakfast or for grocery shopping. The people were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed laughing with folks as we attempted communication over artichokes, wines, olive oils, directions!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
This villa was stocked with cutlery and dish soap. And they kindly welcomed us with 2 bottles of estate bottled wine wonderful and 1 of their olive oil. We purchased vinegar, brought seasonings, sugar, plastic bags and laundry detergent as you suggested. They provide clean linens at the beginning of the week and do not change them. Their literature advises to ask at office for additional linens provided at a small fee. They use waffle linen towels, not terry. Bug spray was not needed at the time we visited but could certainly see it would be earlier in the year.
Directions:
Please advise drivers that car rental companies may NOT have GPS available!! We had planned to rent two cars with GPS in ROME. NO GPS at Eurocar. Good thing to have detailed maps through mapquestgoogle!
Check In Out:
The check in was very thorough, guiding us through the use of all the machines, the various types of TVs and fireplaces. The check out was very easy. The day before we were due to leave, they returned our deposit without any inspection!

Karen, October

Overall:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location was great, the villa was lovely with recently updated bathrooms and furnishings, the pool was a blessed oasis and, then, those views! We'd definitely return.
Enjoyed Most:
How to choose? Top three would be the pool, the views and air conditioned bedrooms. And let's not forget Dora, our cook.
Enjoyed Least:
The pillows. A minor point.
Surrounding Area:
Castellina in Chianti is a darling town with a couple of top-notch restaurants and some very nice local wines. The villa is also close to Siena, San Gimignano, and Monteriggioni - all worth visiting. The villa's name-sake vintage is produced just across the road where you'll find friendly folk eager to share some wine with you.
Nearby Events or Locales:
It's a toss up between Castellana in Chianti and Castellina Scala. Neither were within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Have Dora prepare dinner for you on your first and last night. You won't have to worry about shopping and you'll enjoy a fabulous meal at a great price.

Patti, July

Overall:
This was our second week in Tuscany and we had more family join us at this property. The place was phenomenal. We had 11 people total, including 5 children - 3 under the age of 2. The place was so large we actually had 3 empty bedrooms with queen size beds and full baths. This villa could easily accommodate 15 guests.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa itself was magnificent, it was beautifully restored from it's original building and the layout was perfect for a large group. The infinity pool was spectacular and we spent a lot of time enjoying it as well as the covered outside area with lounge chairs and tables in the front of the villa.
Enjoyed Least:
The place was quite large, so it would probably be difficult to air condition the whole house. The bedrooms had air conditioning units, but with it being summer and above 90 degrees, it would be nice to have some air conditioning or fans in the larger living areas.
Surrounding Area:
Every little town in Chianti was wonderful. We did day trips each day to various places such as Radda, Greve, Castellina, and Monteriggioni. These places were all within 25 KM of our villa and definitely worth the trips!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti was the nearest town and was approximately 10 KM away. It would be quite a hike from the villa in terms of walking distance, but it was a short drive and easy to get to by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely have Dora cook for you and as often as you can. She provides a menu to choose from with several different courses. She sets the table, cooks, serves, and cleans. I would highly recommend using her to cook wonderful authentic Tuscany meals.

Michael, July

Overall:
The overall experience was very good and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an enjoyable vacation.
Enjoyed Most:
The house was very well maintained and very well constructed. The floor plan was awesome and it was so quiet for sleeping. The dining room was wonderful. Every bedroom was first rate. The kitchen was small and a little dark. The various utensils were spread over four rooms and not convenient for cooking. We really enjoyed the covered outside recreation area and the infinity pool had fantastic views of the vineyards and olive groves. There were panoramic views - 360 degrees - and from every window in the house.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was small, dark and poorly organized, albeit well equipped. The TV was not good for anyone wanting to watch things in English. Not having a dryer is a pain. The kitchen had virtually nothing... no salt, pepper, paper towels, napkins. Whoever is cleaning the place is really cleaning up because we left a lot of items that should just be left for the convenience of others...spices etc. The house is not that attractive from the outside but the inside more than makes up for it. The driveways going in need some work. Our cars kept dragging because the roads needed to be graded.
Surrounding Area:
The views were wonderful; you had lots of privacy only being able to see a few other villas on far away hill tops. There are wonderful herb gardens on the propety for cooking and wild pheasants are abundant. There was a lovely town with a nice grocery store, beautiful streets and shops nearby, as well as world class wineries all around. Definitely the place to go for the wine aficionado.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti is the nearest small town worth spending time in. It is a short drive but not walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring/buy anything you need for cooking or coffee. There are no food or paper products in the house except toilet paper and some of us ran out of that. The best suggestion for eating and the most economical is to have Dora the chef cook at the house. We loved her food. Since we were traveling out during the day we did not go to restaurants in the immediate area. The property manger was very helpful and gave lots of suggestions of where to eat etc. I suggest talking to her.

Michael, October

Overall:
It turned out better than we thought and ended up being the highlight of our 4 week trip to Europe and the Med! I would highly recommend this property to others looking to experience Tuscany but still wanting some creature comforts like modern bathrooms - 7 of them in all - and large bedrooms!
Enjoyed Most:
Everything about the Villa was at or above our expectations. The building is hundreds of years old but completely remodeled 3-4 years ago. Plenty of space for 10-12 people and 5 bedrooms had large en suite baths and queen beds. 3 separate living rooms mean you can "get away" if you want to. The outdoor room was used a lot before and after dinner. The location is perfect for privacy but only 4kms from 2 good sized villages. We used the available cook for 3 nights and the 5 course meals were very good and economical! The pool is not heated, so even though it was in the high 20's C only a few brave people swam daily.
Enjoyed Least:
That we had to leave!
Surrounding Area:
The view, the peace and quiet, the walk to Lilliano, the atmosphere and dining in Castellina in Chianti closest village, the winery at Lilliano with it's great wine.
Nearby Events or Locales:
This villa is half way 4km between Castellina in Chianti and Castellina Scalo so walking was not an option, but it is a short and pleasant drive!
Tips or Restaurants:
The coffee maker was not very good but we recommended they buy another, so I think they will. They supply pool towels so no need to bring them. The English-sSpeaking person Deborah who looks after this villa and one other recommended restaurants and her picks were very good! Have the cook prepare a meal for you the night you arrive as that was a treat after a busy travel day! And a great way for you to meet Dora who speaks NO English so you have to be creative! We used Italia Roadrunners to prepare 4 day trips for us to small villages and this was very helpful to allow us to see the region and negotiate difficult driving and parking. For daily shopping for food and wine the COOP in Castellina Scalo is the best way to go and VERY good product and pricing! Good wine for 4 Euros! Remember the stores all close from 1:00-3:00pm each day for a rest, even supermarkets!
Check In Out:
It went very well. It was nice that they had an English speaking person there to greet you. Check out was no problem and we got our damage deposit the day before we left.

Danny, September

Overall:
There were three couples in our house and we certainly could have had two more couples stay due to all of the wonderful space in the house. Be sure and ask for Dora to cook a meal or more for you while there. She is a wonderful cook, she sets the table, cooks, serves, and cleans it all up. She speaks no English, but we all did just fine with lots of smiles and gestures. Her rates are very reasonable and it is so nice to have a meal right there at the house and not have to drive afterwards.
Enjoyed Most:
There was an incredible view from every window and outdoor space at Liliano. We all six felt that it was so peaceful and the perfect way to be in the Chianti area.
Surrounding Area:
This was such a good location for travelling to many of the other wonderful towns in this area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti was the closed town at about a ten minute drive away. It was easy to get to and had a very nice market, good restaurants and just pretty to see.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house had everything we needed, even hairdryers in all the bathrooms. In the nearby town of Colle val d'Elsa there was a truly great restaurant called Antica Trattoria in Piazza Arnolfo. Absolutely delicious Tuscan food and a very charming owner who took excellent care of the six of us.

Lynn, September

Overall:
I would recommend this property to couples or an extended family without hesitation. The property is newly finished, very well equipped, set in stunning scenery, is nearby to many small towns and is easily accessible from Florence or Sienna.
Enjoyed Most:
Casa Liliano was a beautiful property. Each bedroom had its own large, new and clean bathroom and many also had a private sitting area. The house was arranged so that many couples or several families could share the house and still have their own private areas. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and the outdoor seating and eating area was lovely. The infinity pool is gorgeous and very refreshing on hot sunny days. The views from the house and pool are stunning. Extra care went into renovating and finishing this property: the shutters, hardware on doors and windows, floors, fireplaces were all top quality. The house stayed cool inside on hot days, so we did not use the air conditioning, but there were individually controlled air conditioning units in each bedroom. We had no toddlers or infants in our party, but there was a crib and high chair provided for those who need baby care items.
Enjoyed Least:
It did not bother me, but there were no screens on the windows and so bugs flew into the house daily. These were swept up by the daily housekeeping -
Surrounding Area:
Wow - the surrounding countryside was unbelievably lovely. This home is in the center of Chianti and the rolling hills and countryside were breathtakingly beautiful. My husband is a road biker and he was in heaven biking the hills daily.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti is a quaint small town with plenty of restaurants and shops. Castellina was not in walking distance; a car is necessary. Other nearby towns included Monteriggioni, Radda in Chianti, and a bit farther away, Siena.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant list provided by the keyholder was excellent. We tried many of the restaurants and enjoyed them all. Plenty of beach towels were provided so there is no need to worry about bringing pool towels. Bring sunscreen, your ipod and speakers, some good books, and you are set! We bought a half case of their wine; it was quite good!

Mimi, July

Enjoyed Most:
The spaciousness, which made all four couples feel that they had private accommodations, plus the wonderful views from the top of the hill. The availability of Dora, the cook, with her great Tuscan recipes was a wonderful extra. She cooked us two terrific meals and charged only the actual cost of groceries which she bought, plus 15 euros per hour for her time, which was about three hours each meal. We tipped her 30 euros, and when she objected that it was too much, we said per amore! She smiled and accepted graciously.
Enjoyed Least:
Have nothing of note to complain about. Some of our party would have preferred screens on the windows, but that's Italy! We did see some pretty interesting bugs when we left windows open at night with lights on.
Surrounding Area:
The natural beauty of the Chianti hills, and the fact that we just happened to hit the start of the wine grape harvest, and could see all the pickers and the tractors pulling trailers full of grapes going by on the road below the place.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Can't really call Lilliano a town, even village is stretching it, but you could walk there. Otherwise it was Castellina Scalo down the road and Castellina in Chianti up the road, but a few kilometers walk to each.
Tips or Restaurants:
The caretaker, Deborah, has a great restaurant list. We enjoyed Taverna del Gallo in Castellina Scalo and three places in and outside Castellina in Chianti.
Directions:
Arrival a bit difficult due to lack of signs, but they may have been taken down or covered because of the large wedding in Lilliano on arrival day. Departure was excellent. We had to leave early Saturday to catch our flight, so were given the security deposit back on Friday night.
Check In Out:
Deborah, being an expat American, made it all very easy for us Italian-language-challenged visitors!

Harriet, September

Overall:
We were so impressed with the property and with the attentive maintenance it received. Our villa was thoroughly cleaned every week day at a time we chose which was very accommodating. We also had someone stop by to make sure the pool was clean and working in proper order. I chose this property for ourselves and 3 other couples and I ended up quite the hero for selecting this property! It really was a perfect experience!
Enjoyed Most:
We loved everything about the property. It was set atop a hill overlooking the vineyards of Tuscany - what's not to love? The infinity pool was stunning. The spaciousness of the villa itself was wonderful. We also loved that each bedroom was very large with a dressing room and it's own private bathroom.
Enjoyed Least:
I really can't say there was anything we disliked.
Surrounding Area:
There were a lot of wineries close by so we could stop by and sample wine on our way back from our day of exploring the nearby hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina was the closest and no, it was not within walking distance which was fine with us.
Tips or Restaurants:
Perhaps the only disappointing thing but something we expected was there were no basic food supplies - like salt and pepper. We left a lot of these things for the villa so hopefully they will be there for the next visitors salt, pepper, sugar, tea, coffee as these items do not spoil.

Anna, September
