Customer Reviews

Overall:
GOOD! Unseasonal heat was a bit of a problem, but the fans provided were a real asset and quite used --- 24 hours per day!
Enjoyed Most:
Relative isolation and absolute absence of any noise or background annoyance.
Enjoyed Least:
Pool-area and installation which were quite complete was at a lower (recessed) level from the residence and a bit isolated. The location and surrounding plastic fence were obvious screens from the dust of an adjacent farm road, but meant that there was NO VIEW from the pool area itself. This was a pity.
Surrounding Area:
Good roads and trails in the extended area provided daily walks and access--also used by people living in the area. Their presence was never a problem!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rignano sul Arno, the nearby town, took fifteen minutes by car (5 miles) and it had all the requisite shops and services, including doctor, pizzeria, COOP supermarket, train, and bus stations.
Tips or Restaurants:
Nearby restaurant (100 Palms) was a real find that was used daily. Quality and breadth of the menu were unequaled!
Directions:
GPS was invaluable in the surrounding area; we paid 20 Euros/day with our rental car.
Check In Out:
A house book, with suggestions, etc would have been appreciated. The caretaker, Roberta, was very helpful and provided information when requested.

Kurt, July

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. It was a great experience and a beautiful property.
Enjoyed Most:
The peace and quiet as well as the breathtaking view.
Enjoyed Least:
Lots of stairs.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty of the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rignano sull Arno. Not within walking distance
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure to rent a car. The villa is not in town.
Check In Out:
The owner was wonderful and very accommodating.

Cheryl, May

Overall:
I am still looking for that perfect word to describe this villa. It fulfilled my mother's dream of staying in a villa in Italy (she is 80). My husband, daughter and I got to share in her joy. There was not one negative about the property.
Enjoyed Most:
The place was magnificent, including accommodations, view and staff.
Surrounding Area:
Quaint towns, buildings and olive tree groves all around.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rignano sull'Arno was the town we went to daily to catch our train to Florence. Not close enough to the villa but managed to work it out. The villa information makes it seem as though there are places within walking distance but not really. Again, we worked it out.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoy. Relax. Take it all in. There is nothing that should destroy a vacation - especially at this villa!
Directions:
We had written directions. There were 2 taxis together from the airport and they communicated with each other. I had the directions in the front seat with myself and the driver. He seemed confused from time to time but figured it out. I cannot recommend any improvements as addresses are not as simple as in the US. One person in the group rented a car and had the GPS and after a couple of glitches seemed to find the villa.
Check In Out:
We arrived early and had to wait outside while the staff finished cleaning. The day was beautiful and there were no complaints about sitting in the sun. I imagine if the day was raining it would be an issue but we were lucky.

Overall:
Wonderful. What an experience. Beautiful villa with fantastic views.
Enjoyed Most:
I loved that there was so much room and the outdoor patio options were great. The weather was wonderful and we slept with the windows open each evening.
Enjoyed Least:
It should be noted in the description that a rental car is a must. It was noted on the RentVillas site that the train station was only a couple miles away and I thought I could walk it, but that was not the case. It was further away than anticipated and up and down hills.
Surrounding Area:
Rolling hills, beautiful garden, surrounded by beautiful trees. It was wonderful
Nearby Events or Locales:
Riggnano sull'Arno was the next town and where the train station is located. It was not walking distance. Cute area - a few shops, grocery store, small park.
Tips or Restaurants:
Rent a car with a GPS. It is imperative. Also remind people that all stores are closed on Sundays so if you arrive on Saturday, find your way to the grocery store for supplies.
Directions:
Used a GPS which worked wonderfully. On Sunday we made our way around the corner and up the hill to a great family retaurant "Jolly Cafe". Wonderful.
Check In Out:
Check in and Check out were both easy. Thank you.

Enjoyed Least:
Pool was chilly.
Surrounding Area:
View and beauty of the surrounding countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rignano sull'Arno--not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Must have car. Lots of good places to eat.
Directions:
Must have a GPS.
Check In Out:
Very simple process. The homeowner was very kind and helpful.

Overall:
We had the nicest time. Roberta helped us settle in and responded quickly whenever we had a question. The location was great and the house was beautiful and well maintained. We were very happy there.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were wonderful and the location was perfect for all the sightseeing we wanted to do.
Enjoyed Least:
We were cold inside the house and while it was warmer outside than in, the outdoor furniture wasn't available until our second week there. We were also aware of the other people (caretaker and family) living on the property; it was perhaps not as completely private as we thought it would be.
Surrounding Area:
Every direction we went in was a beautiful walk or drive.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There was no town within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The food and wine tasting at nearby Torre a Cano was delightful and everyone renting at the house would enjoy it. The wine was delicious - we bought quite a bit of it - and the food supplied made a wonderful meal.
Directions:
Directions were great.
Check In Out:
It was just fine. Roberta was a lovely hostess.

Nancy, May

Overall:
The property and surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. It is a wonderful setting for a vacation for a family and friends. The bedrooms are large and spacious and the bathrooms are all nice. The surrounding land - olive groves and vineyards and the fact that the villa sits on top of a hill all make the views wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The veranda off the kitchen, the surrounding land and old roads which we walked at night. There is little extraneous light at night and so the stars are beautiful. One night we saw many shooting stars! We did have the chef, Mattisse, come to cook with us one night - that was really fun and he was very engaging.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room furniture, couches in particular, could use refreshing. The WiFi only worked in the living room and in the bedroom directly above.
Surrounding Area:
There is a wonderful winery close by which we visited and did a wine and olive oil tasting along with a tour. Delicious and interesting time.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nothing is within walking distance so you need a car.
Tips or Restaurants:
Car and WiFi hot spot if it's important for you to stay connected.
Directions:
The GPS could not find the house but the directions were fine.
Check In Out:
We were told on the contract and in correspondence that the house agent would meet us and give us recommendations, etc. However, she she sent a lovely young woman in her place who could not speak English and thus could not answer any of our questions. At one point she called her manager so he could speak to us, but his English was poor, too.

Michele, August

Overall:
Outstanding views! Very welcoming and accommodating owner. Roberta and her father were great. Service was the best.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, the views, and "THE VIEWS"!!
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing but, a more efficient clothes washer and the addition of a dryer would be nice.
Surrounding Area:
The entire Tuscany region is unique in the world. The olive groves and vineyards seem to go on forever.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rignano sull'Arno. Not within walking distance but minutes away by car. Trains run every 20 minutes and can get you anywhere!! Super clean, ON TIME and efficient.
Tips or Restaurants:
A car is essential. Villa is on a hilltop away from everything and everyone. Restaurants and SUPER,SUPER MARKETS are a few minutes away and carry everything on the face of the earth! The ladies and kids in our group were amazed!
Directions:
GPS is essential. Driving in Italy was a great experience. Drivers were very disciplined and respectful but FAST! Not the place for "timid" drivers.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out process was flawless. Roberta (owner) was OUTSTANDING! Once she became aware I spoke Italian and I was born in Italy, she waived the deposit fee, offered us 5 bottles of their "Local Homemade Wine" (3 reds, 2 white) and gave us the run of the place. Life is good!

Joseph, July

Overall:
Our group of 14 adults had a great time during our week at the villa.
Enjoyed Most:
The property was only 20 to 25 kms from Florence but it was in a very quiet area. There were many places to visit and things to do within easy commuting distance by car. The property owner (Roberta) was very easy to deal with and provided assistance with booking dinners at a couple of restaurants. The villa is 800 years old and the views are fantastic.
Enjoyed Least:
We had no issues with the property.
Surrounding Area:
Grocery shopping was only 10 minutes away in Rignano Sull Arno. We had a great tour and lunch at the Fattoria Torre a Cona winery which is only 3 kms from the villa. There are a number of very scenic towns that are within a 60- to 75-minute drive from the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa supplies large towels for use at the pool so there is no need to bring your own.
Directions:
Getting to the villa was easy based on the physical address on the rental agreement and the use of GPS.

Ed, September

Overall:
Beautiful property--exactly what we were expecting. It was an excellent place for a family gathering.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa has a large kitchen where all the family gathered in the morning and evening hours. It also had a large front room where family gathered to read, play games, use their computers, etc. The bedrooms each had a private bathroom, and the pool offered a much needed respite from the summer heat. All that put together meant that the villa offered something for everyone. You could either join the group or find your own private area to relax.
Enjoyed Least:
We had a few older people in the group and all the steps were a bit challenging. However, we put them in the 1st floor bedrooms and that was a perfect compromise.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area was quaint, accessible by car, and offered a lot of interesting places to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Rignano sull' Arno, about 8 minutes away by car. It was a great little town with a nice grocery store and excellent little train station that offered hourly trains into Florence.
Directions:
We used a Garmin GPS and it was spot-on for directions.

Eileen, July

Overall:
Very good overall experience. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent. I loved how comfortable the kitchen was and the access to the terrace off the kitchen. The pool provided a wonderful respite after long hot days touring.
Enjoyed Most:
Spaciousness of rooms.
Enjoyed Least:
Could not walk to anything. Also all Bedrooms did not have fans. We had to ask for them.
Surrounding Area:
Ease of driving into Florence. Beauty of siting on the terrace at night and watching shooting stars.

Kathleen, August

Overall:
Very nice experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The views. The number of bathrooms.
Enjoyed Least:
A bit too far off the beaten path.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rignano sul Arno was the closest town.
Directions:
We used a GPS.

Overall:
I could sum up or stay with one word - WOW!! The Villa Gialla was a wonderful villa. We are starting to plan another trip in a few years and we will use Rentvillas.com for our trip. We may try to stay at the same place.
Enjoyed Most:
The property owner was a gracious hostess. The day we arrived half of our family was separated due to traffic. My sisters made it to the villa before me. I had the reservation paperwork, however, and the owner let them in to get settled. Once we made it to the villa we called the owners and she came right over. In the kitchen there was an old wood fire grill, and we asked the owner if we could use it one night and she said anytime we would like and we could use the olive wood for fuel. We did a huge dinner a few days later.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner also made dinner reservations for us a few times, twice at Nuevo Ranch, which is an 8-minute drive from the villa. We loved the little café, the owner Ciro was a great person. We had dinner at a place called 100 Palms, which we were not impressed with. There was another bistro called Osteria de Medici that was fabulous. We celebrated my brothers 50th birthday there. The owner, Marco, was fantastic.

timothy, May

Overall:
It was great, the house is located in the middle of a beautiful valley full of vineyards and olive trees. It is a house from the 13th century very unique and pretty. The owner and staff were really nice and friendly.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and the uniqueness of the house, painted walls and ceilings. The view and the people.
Enjoyed Least:
It was maybe a bit further from Florence than expected.
Surrounding Area:
Peace and quiet, great views.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a shortcut to get to Florence without taking the highway, but it is best to go by train from Rignano. The cooking of Eleonora and Luisa was amazing. You don't need to move from the house.

Tatiana, July

Overall:
We were quite pleased with the villa, which was spacious and clean. The grounds are beautiful and especially well kept, including the pool area, which my grandchildren particularly enjoyed. Many thanks for your help in planning what was a most enjoyable experience for my family. I will certainly recommend your company and this villa to friends seeking this type of accommodation.
Enjoyed Most:
We all enjoyed the outside deck area off the kitchen and dining room, where we could view the surrounding countryside. My wife was especially fond of the overlarge kitchen.
Enjoyed Least:
Our only negative experience was barking dogs on one night almost the entire night, and fierce mosquitoes.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would remind people that while Florence is only 18 km away, driving time to the outskirts is roughly 45 minutes due to the narrow and winding roads. The trains from Rignano to Florence are not overly frequent. You might also encourage renters to visit the winery and olive pressing facility at Fattoria Torre A Cona, only five minutes from the villa. They provide an excellent tour of this 12th century property at 11am and 3pm daily, and their wines, one of which is outstanding, and first press olive oil are available at attractive prices at the facility.
