Customer Reviews

Overall:
We had a wonderful experience! The staff was amazing! The property was gorgeous and the dinners were unforgettable!
Enjoyed Most:
Relaxing by the pool and eating dinner outdoors.
Enjoyed Least:
That we can be there right now! Everything was great!
Surrounding Area:
The sights were amazing! The town of San Gimignano was awesome.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano was the closest but certainly not within walking distance. A short drive away.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoy just lounging by the pool and meeting other families from around the world! Eating dinner onsite is HIGHLY recommended. Taking the cooking class is a MUST.
Directions:
We used GPS, it wasn't hard to find.
Check In Out:
We loved our stay and we will hopefully be back someday!

Tess, July

Overall:
Very nice. A beautiful place in a great location and a very friendly staff.
Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Enjoyed Least:
Hard to complain about anything. It would have been nice if it was a little clearer which outside areas were common and which were associated with a particular property.
Surrounding Area:
San Gimignano, but also close to a large and modern grocery store.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano. Yes, within walking distance but we never found the time.
Directions:
No GPS. Property was pretty easy to find.

Michael, August

Overall:
Wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The level of care and personal involvement of our owners. The property is in excellent condition.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano. Not really within walking distance.
Directions:
We used a GPS, but we did ask a local on the road for assistance.

Joanne, April

Overall:
It was fantastic and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the people.
Enjoyed Least:
The history, the view. It has all been updated but to suit the period in which it was built.
Surrounding Area:
Many very interesting places and villages to visit.
Tips or Restaurants:
Take your hiking shoes. As far as things to bring, the apartment was very well equipped. There where restaurants in town that where very good. Would suggest that you eat at least one meal on the site as it was excellent.

Bob, April

Overall:
Amazing.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Dirt road leading to the property about 2km.
Surrounding Area:
Peace and quiet. Amazing views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Very close to gorgeous San Gimignano! Not walking distance unless you like longer hikes -
Tips or Restaurants:
Best gelato I ever had was around the square of Siena. Cook at home, the supermarket was quite close and is huge.

Rafeef, August

Overall:
I'd love to come back, honestly! It's a great place for families and those who like peace and quiet and independent travelling.
Enjoyed Most:
The view is absolutely amazing. The layout of the apartment is great. Everything is very tastefully done. The beds are very comfortable and there are plenty of additional blankets and pillows. The owner a extremely helpful with absolutely everything.
Enjoyed Least:
I think I liked everything. As was noted before the noise travels easily from one room to the other. But there are always earplugs.
Surrounding Area:
The remoteness on one hand, and the ability to easily get to almost every corner of Tuscany. We travelled a lot through small hill towns which we greatly enjoyed.
Tips or Restaurants:
The apartment has everything one might need in terms of dishes, knives, cutting boards, etc. No salt and pepper, though. We very much enjoyed dinners at the local restaurant in Poggibonsi. Not fancy but the food is great. It's very close to the train station.

Irina, July

Overall:
It was just a really enjoyable time and the family that runs it could not be nicer. They are full of knowledge as well to answer any questions you might have.
Enjoyed Most:
The view. It was perfect. The property itsself could not be nicer. It was way better then the pictures on line could express.
Enjoyed Least:
The noise travels from room to room for some reason. It was not problem at all, you just need to be considerate of others.
Surrounding Area:
The convenience to a lot of great towns and to the autostrada. The town of San Gimignano - and that the Villa is near to one of the coolest towns we've ever been to in Italy in the five trips there.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen is really functional but does not have anything stocked, not even salt. There is a big grocery store you will pass on the way to the villa - it's called the Pam. It has everything you need and I suggest you hit that on the way in. Oh - and buy toilet paper because you only get one roll from the villa. The meals you can attend on the property are excellent and I would highly recommend going.
Directions:
Just keep your eyes out for the signs.

Lisa, October

Enjoyed Most:
The setting, our hosts, the food, pool and proximity to quaint hill towns. We loved everything about it and would love to go back.
Enjoyed Least:
At times we could hear the neighbors through the walls.
Surrounding Area:
There are many nearby towns to explore.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano, we did not walk but could have.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure to leave time for the pool and don't miss the dinners at the property.

Meaghan, July

Enjoyed Most:
The view and size of the property.
Enjoyed Least:
Parking was a small problem since the lot is short about two parking spots when full and is unlit at night. There were also thin walls in the master bedroom, at times we could hear noises from next door.
Surrounding Area:
The quiet, scenic vistas were tremendous. The roads were easily marked and the nearby towns were great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano was only a few kilometers away. It was within walking distance and took about forty minutes to get there. We never did the walk, but drove the car to the entrance gate and parked for a couple of Euros.
Tips or Restaurants:
This place has everything including a washer, dryer and iron. The kitchen is fully equipped. There was service for six, a coffee maker, and a dishwasher.

Todd, May

Enjoyed Most:
This is an absolutely beautiful property that I would highly recommend. This is our third time in Tuscany, twice before at different places, and this place cannot be beat. We loved the stunning grounds and convenient location. The owners and their families are very friendly, helpful, and speak excellent English. They give very good directions to just about anywhere you want to go. We ate at their on-site restaurant twice, once on the outdoor terrace with a spectacular view, and the food was wonderful. They were very accommodating for the special dietary restrictions of one of the members in our group. The place is kept immaculately, inside and out.
Enjoyed Least:
This unit itself did not have its own outdoor space except a tiny balcony facing the front courtyard and a limited view, so you had to go to other parts of the grounds to sit outside and enjoy the spectacular view.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano was very close by, although a long walk away.
Tips or Restaurants:
The coffee pot is not like those in America instead it makes one very strong cup of coffee. That is typical for Italy. It is nice to have a laundry facility on site, but there is only one washer and one dryer and, typical for Italy, the cycles take along time to run. The Chiribiri restaurant in San Gimignano was excellent and well priced. It is very small so reservations are a must and it probably cannot accommodate large groups. Make sure you bring a battery operated travel lamp if you like to read, as the lighting is very dim. Bring good walking shoes for walking on the gravel paths.
Directions:
There are two Poggibonsi exits, South and North, except that when you come to the first Poggibonsi exit from Siena, it does not say which exit it is. If you are coming from the direction of Siena, take the second Poggibonsi exit, which is the north exit. If you are coming from the direction of Florence, take the first exit. Make sure you drive slowly after getting on the road towards San Gimignano so that you can see the turnoff to the gravel road taking you to the property. We found it, but you have to keep your eyes peeled.
Check In Out:
We had a lot of people checking in at the same time, so it took awhile.

Jennifer, May

Enjoyed Most:
The people who own and run the place - and the views. One can dine here three times a week and pre-order to have dinner on Saturday of arrival. They never serve fish and you do not have a choice. It is a pre-fixed menu. One can find out the menu by contacting the owners ahead of time. Dinner must be prebooked and is served 7:30-8:00PM for 25 Euros. Drinks are extra. Beautiful views from upper bedroom.
Enjoyed Least:
Easy access for someone who has a walking disability as only one step to get into the entrance, however there are a few steps from the parking lot area to the main area for the entrance to all units. Only one washing machine and dryer available for everyone and they take forever to dry anything and even to wash. Electricity is not like it is in North America. No place available in our units to even hang clothes to dry. Sofa in the living room is uncomfortable for sleeping. Steep, narrow climb and no bathroom for the bedroom upstairs.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful scenery and close enough for visiting towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano - yes it is within walking distance but not a very good road - steep, dusty and narrow especially when cars are passing.
Tips or Restaurants:
Arrive while still have daylight. Difficult to find the road off the main highway and then the next road to the actual villa area. Beautiful views. You can also drive to Poggibonsi and catch a bus or train to Florence instead of trying to find a place to park in Florence and having to walk so far into the main center of Florence. Be sure to go to San Gimignano, beautiful historic town and good shopping too. Difficulty parking outside the walls of San Gimignano, so arrive early. Volterra is a nice place to visit also and be sure to go to the wineries in Chianti region
Directions:
Get there before dark. Go to www.michelin.com for further directions if you are coming from a different area and then follow the directions sent to you from Rentvillas.com from Poggibonsi to the villas.
Check In Out:
If you arrive on a Saturday, be there before 6:30PM as they are busy getting ready to serve dinner and they are in a hurry - as they also take all your baggage to your room. You are not allowed to take your own baggage. They are very helpful.

Marianne, October

Overall:
The entire stay was perfect. Would go back again.
Enjoyed Most:
We found it very well maintained. The staff was most helpful and friendly.
Enjoyed Least:
No complaints at all.
Surrounding Area:
Easily accessible to tourist sites and food stores.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano. Would not recommend walking it. Close by car, but a good walk on foot.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a hair dryer if needed. A good restaurant was in Poggibonsi - Il Camillo. Enjoyed the restaurant on the premises, it was especially nice to have it available to us on Saturday night which was a travel day for us.

Terence P., September

Overall:
The owners were all part of our wonderful experience, we loved everyone of them, a wonderful hard working family to see to all your needs - and Nonna a wonderful cook. We miss them already.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was more beautiful then I expected, we loved the owners and the food they served and the peace and quiet was superb.
Enjoyed Least:
We had nothing we didn't love, we will never forget the villa and its location.
Surrounding Area:
It was close enough to other towns for day trips.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was San Gimignano which my family walked because of the view along the way. I found the town so be one of my favorites.
Tips or Restaurants:
The food at the villa was a wonderful experience eating under the stars but on the nights they didn't serve we had wonderful dinners in San Gimignano and they were all good.

Mary J, September

Overall:
I'd definitely go back. In fact, we met a couple from Nice that has returned every year for the last 4 years. Also, I will be recommending this property to my family and friends.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! The apartment is very comfortable with 2 good sized bedrooms and having 2 bath rooms was great. The family that runs the place is fantastic. They are all so helpful and made our in Tuscany the best part of our Italy trip. Also, their meals were the best we had in Italy and a great value!
Enjoyed Least:
The only complaint would be the lack of lighting in the main living areas. It was difficult to read at night in the living room and sitting area, but it was manageable.
Surrounding Area:
The property is surrounded by protected land, that contains a vineyard. You're on a hill overlooking the vines and countryside and can see forever. The covered portico where dinners are served 3 times a week had the most amazing views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano is very close, 3km. We didn't try walking, but several other guests we spoke with did. The walk will be hilly and dusty dirt roads for most of the 3km's.
Tips or Restaurants:
Sign up for at least one of the 3 dinners offered at the property. You get a 3-course meal including cafe and tea for 25 Euros. It was by far the best dinner and service we received during our trip.

Joe, June

Overall:
We absolutely loved it!
Enjoyed Most:
The ambience and the friendly owners-managers.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the town of San Gimignano and the hillsides covered with vineyards and olive trees.

Mary Beth, April

Enjoyed Most:
It was in a beautiful location with a beautiful view. The villa was very clean and well kept. The design was excellent with the living room and kitchen built in an open-plan fashion. The private terrace was a wonderful place to hang out, and the pool area was gorgeous, as well. The owners, Simone and Sandra, were very kind and friendly and went out of their way to help us, such as in helping us with plans for our wedding ceremony.
Enjoyed Least:
Mosquites. Several of the days there was some smoky air due to some burning in the area.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the gorgeous landscape and the quiet. We loved the small villages. San Gimignano was beautiful, as was the town of Certaldo Alto.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano is a fascinating medieval town - about 5 km away.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring mosquito repellant. The Pam in Poggibonso is a great grocery store. We had our wedding reception in the restaurant Enoteca il Castello in San Gimignano - they did an amazing job - gave us their whole back room and super service - the wonderful waitress Paula made us feel like family there.
Check In Out:
Ricardo was helpful in getting us checked in - he helped us spot an oil leak on our rental car and the staff helped us phone the agency to get that handled immediately.

Karin, October

Overall:
Our week at this property will remain one of our family's favorite memories. This was a dream come true for us and we all enjoyed the beautiful surrounding, making new friends, and the attention to detail by the incredible staff, Sandra, Ricardo, Nicola and Simone. They are the best! You have a real gem in this property.
Enjoyed Most:
The overall quality and standards of this property were wonderful. The personal attention by the staff was amazing. It was nice to know what we had to look forward to at the end of a long day of sightseeing,,,a beautiful home, a cool pool, incredible views and wonderful meals on dinner nights, outside under the trees and stars. We are already dreaming about our next visit there!
Enjoyed Least:
That we had to leave at the end of the week!
Surrounding Area:
San Gimignano is a beautiful hill town rich in history and beauty. It was great for all of us, ages 15 to 48 to explore the city. We had the best gelato in Italy there! Everyone we met was friendly and communication was no problem. This is an area worth visiting.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano is within walking distance for a fit person, but it is along a rather up and down dirt road and then onto a rather narrow two lane road way. Overall time about an hour if you din't stop along the way to notice the beautiful views, and that would be impossible!
Tips or Restaurants:
There isn't anything we needed to bring that the staff wasn't able to find for us. There are several good restaurants in San Giimignano, all along the main street leading to the Piazza de la Cisterna.

Duncan, July

Overall:
The apartment had a quiet location with beautiful views, a helpful and attentive staff and nice facilities. It exceeded our expectations. We thought it was an exceptional value. Given the opportunity, we would definitely stay there again.
Enjoyed Most:

Having a unit that came with use of our own private terrace. It was wonderful to have meals out there and enjoy the fantastic views.
Surrounding Area:

San Gimignano is about an hour walk each way mostly along a quiet dirt road with absolutely wonderful views of San Gimignano and its towers.
Events or Locales:

The villa offers a dinner three times a week. We had dinner there the first night and it was a wonderful way to settle in.
