Customer Reviews

Overall:
We loved everything about our stay. Three couples stayed in Poggio 2. We were very comfortable--the 3 bedroom, 3 bath apartment was perfect. It was quiet and peaceful and we loved walking down the lane to see the vineyards and olive grove.
Enjoyed Most:
The bedrooms were spacious and each room had a private entrance. Each room had nice windows and it was so pleasant in early May that we could open the windows. We liked that we were in the country, and that we could walk into town. The little grocery store, the Coop, had everything we needed for breakfast and snacks. The owners left six bottles of their wine, Terre di Conio. They were tagged with the price. We paid 10 Euros for a very good Chianti Classico. There was also a bottle of their olive oil.
Enjoyed Least:
We liked everything.
Surrounding Area:
It was very easy to explore the Chianti area. One day we drove the Chianti trail visiting 5 charming medieval villages including Greve. We were able to take day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, Lucca, Pisa, Montelpulciano, Montealcino and Pienza. We loved tasting the wines of the region, viewing the beautiful countryside and visiting the medieval villages. We really loved the Tuscan food and the pici!
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Donato. The downtown area with a few restaurants and grocery store was about a 10 minute walk. We were very fortunate because there was a wine festival in San Donato celebrating 300 years of Chianti classic when we were there...1716 - 2016. Residential neighborhoods are adjacent to this Agriturismo.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a hair dryer that has a switch so it can be used on high voltage. The owners daughter, Giulia (pronounced Julia) was fabulous. She wrote out a list of towns to visit and nearby restaurants. There are several small towns within 5 -7 km which we visited for dinner 1. Badia a Passienano and restaurant La Scuderia 2. Barberino Val D'elsa and restaurant L'Archibugio 3 . Tavarnelle Val di Pesa and restaurant La Vecchia Piazza 4. San Donato and restaurant La Toppa. We ate at all the restaurants and loved them. She had 2 more suggestions in San Donato Palazzo Pretorio, La tavern di Ciccino. They must have replaced the pillows as they were comfortable! There was not a washing machine in our unit, but the owner did our laundry for 6 euros a load.
Directions:
The directions to the property were perfect. WE had GPS on our phones so we didn't rent it with the car,
Check In Out:
I had a phone call from Giulia on the morning of our check in day to discuss our expected time of arrival. I let her know when we left Florence and she was waiting for us when we arrived. She speaks very fluent English and is delightful. She spent quite a bit of time with us telling us about restaurants. Her mother lives on the property, but she does not speak English. The mother loved the translator app on our phones!

The restaurants at the monastery were very good and close as was La Toppa in San Donato.

Overall:
An absolute lovely time! The property was clean, convenient to the hill town nearby and the highway. The rooms were spacious, every bedroom had a bathroom, and it just felt like Tuscany. We wished we could have stayed longer.
Enjoyed Most:
Wonderful views of the countryside, rose bushes and other flowering plants, plenty of parking, outside seating to enjoy the views.
Surrounding Area:
There were many quaint towns within easy driving distance and plenty of wine tasting available.
Nearby Events or Locales:
It was San Donato. It was within walking distance and we did walk to dinner most nights, and to the grocery store and post office.
Tips or Restaurants:
I wouldn't suggest to bring anything other than personal items, soap, shampoo, etc. but be prepared to purchase basic household goods to be able to effectively use the kitchen - paper towels, dish soap, etc. There were two good restaurants that we found, but I cannot give you the names. We were limited on a Monday night as one of the three that we found we closed.
Directions:
The directions were fine. We did use a GPS that we brought from the States.

Overall:
We had an extremely pleasant time at our villa located just a short walk from the ancient and picturesque village of San Donato-Poggio. The owner's daughter, Giulia, who spoke perfect English, met us as we arrived and was most helpful throughout our visit. We were very satisfied and pleased with this rental.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds were beautiful. The spacious living room led out to a large terrace with a big outdoor table, roses climbing the walls, and a gorgeous view of the Tuscan hills. A beautifully maintained large, sparkling pool was just down a short path and grape vines and olive bushes were just beyond the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was very small with a tiny refrigerator and stove. It was adequate for breakfast and lunch, but it would be difficult to have a large number of guests for a sit-down, gourmet dinner.
Surrounding Area:
Ahhh, what didn't we enjoy about the surrounding area ? It was beautiful and rural with abundant wine-tasting farms like the one we stayed on. It was so close to the enchanting town of San Donato. We loved to go there for a morning cappuccino.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town, within an easy walk, was San Donato.
Tips or Restaurants:
Anybody cooking at the villa will have to buy groceries. There is a tiny grocery store in nearby San Donato, but it is rather inadequate and often closed. So Giulia advised us to drive to another somewhat larger town 7 km away. It had everything. And it was quite an experience checking out in a place where absolutely no one spoke English. Bring a hair dryer. Be sure to get saran wrap and dishwasher liquid at the store. Better still, eat in the nearby town of San Donato because one of the finest restaurants in Italy, believe it or not, is there, serving fabulous Tuscan food. We all felt it was better than anything we'd had in either Venice or Rome. It's called La Toppa. Go there!
Directions:
We took a train from Rome to Florence where we rented a car and a GPS. We had absolutely no problem finding the property
Check In Out:
None. Both were easy with the help of Giulia.
