Customer Reviews

Overall:
Above expectations. Sometimes it is difficult to know if a property that is rented over the internet will live up to the pictures. Villa Montichiello EXCEEDED the pictures in reality. Marvelous.
Enjoyed Most:
Spaciousness of the home. Beauty of the inside and outside of the property. Convenience to Montichiello. Graciousness of Tamara and her son Riccardo.
Surrounding Area:
The views were beautiful from every window. The location was perfect for visiting the various Tuscan hill towns. The ability to walk into Montichiello for dinner or a gelato was one of the best advantages to the property. Perfect!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montichiello was a 10 minute walk. A small grocery store was within a 5 minute walk. Pienza was a 10 minute car ride.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Porta, at the entrance to Montichiello, was delicious with spectacular views from the terrace. Daria made us feel like family.
Directions:
The directions could be modified based on whether the traveler is coming from Florence (north) or Rome (south). Finding Montichiello by GPS was not difficult, but the directions to the villa from that point were confusing. We called Riccardo and he met us and led us to the property.
Check In Out:
Tamara and Riccardo speak very limited English. We were alright since our daughter speaks limited Italian. Had she not been there, it would have been a challenge. However, Riccardo and Tamara were very sweet and did everything they could to make us feel welcome.

Overall:
Everything was far better than I could have imagined. The pictures were good but when I got there it was even better than the pictures.
Enjoyed Most:
Quiet and a fabulous view. Just the right distance into the little town - a nice walk.
Enjoyed Least:
The cost.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful scenery and nice restaurants in the little town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monticchiello was just a nice walk from the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Porta was a great place to eat! Food and view were great and staff went out of their way to accommodate us.
Directions:
I road with friends who used a GPS.
Check In Out:
The owners were very gracious.

Overall:
The property was gorgeous. It's very well landscaped and maintained. The caretaker was very gracious and was great about managing our needs while ensuring we enjoyed privacy during our stay.
Enjoyed Most:
Breakfasts and evening wine while enjoying the view sitting by the pool. Walks to town for supplies and dinner drives to Pienza and Montepulciano.
Surrounding Area:
The villa was extremely well-located for day trips to many hill towns, as well as to Siena and Florence. The rolling hills of the Val d'Orcia were stunning.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monticchiello was within walking distance and there was a small bakery and market that provided for most of our daily food requirements.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything you need is nearby. Recommend local olive oil that can be bought in Monticchiello Every restaurant in Monticchiello was excellent two of them have amazing views. The market in Pienza is small and hard to find, but there is one booth that sells fresh pasta and fish that makes it worth the trip. There is also a wonderful small restaurant in Pienza called Antonio and Gabriella's. The husband and wife make everything while you wait and every meal ends with a courtesy glass of limoncello! Eat the gelato every chance you get. Make sure to do your day trips either in the morning before 1: 00 PM or in the late afternoons after 3:30 PM. Stores are closed for the period in between and you won't get a good feel for the towns if you go during this time.
Directions:
The villa is located less than a mile from the Monticchiello cross road. We turned off too early and went back and forth for quite sometime before calling the caretaker for help.

Overall:
Very special villa. Location is amazing.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, outside amenities.
Enjoyed Least:
When we arrived, the TV wasn't working, there was no internet, the oven blew fuses, one toilet did not work, and one bathroom had a leak. The villa hadn't been rented in some time, so the issues were understandable. The property managers worked very hard to resolve the issues and did their very best. We appreciated the extra effort. It made a huge difference.
Surrounding Area:
Proximity to neighboring hill towns. Ideal location.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monticchiello was a 3 min drive. 15 min walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Porta was great. We went there 3 times!
Directions:
It would have been helpful to have the name of the crossroad.

Overall:
My family of six loved every minute of our time at this villa. We had never used this site before, but everything was exactly as described.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa is literally a 5-10 minute walk (depending on whether you stop to take pictures, eat a pastry outside the village walls, stop to look at the amazing views, etc) from Monticchiello, which was very convenient for me to do a pastry run in the morning, or for my boys to go exploring. The views from the property were terrific, especially from the second floor patio, where we often had dinner and watched the sun set behind Pienza on the next hill. The large, deep, well-cared for pool was just what we needed to relax after long days in the countryside. And there always seemed to be a breeze, even on the hottest days.
Enjoyed Least:
There was no AC, which is hardly a criticism. Three of our four rooms had fans, and the breezes were nice if we left the windows open at night. But don't leave the windows open at night if the lights are on, because the bugs will find you!
Surrounding Area:
The pace of life was wonderful and unhurried. The townspeople were friendly and welcoming. There were many towns and villages within a very short distance--Pienza was 15 minutes, Montalcino a short 30 min. ride through gorgeous wine country with wineries a-plenty. Every inch of the countryside around our villa was breath-taking!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monticchiello was just down the hill, and I understand that there is a path from Monticchiello to Pienza, which would be a nice walk, but I wouldn't want to walk back!
Tips or Restaurants:
Our only suggestions are to take half as many things as you think you need (I mailed several boxes of clothing and gifts home, which was expensive) and wash them out as you go...by the end of our trip, my entire suitcase was filled with gifts! Also, we traveled late July, early August, and there were a few nights when it was too cool to sit out comfortably. My boys were only too happy to buy Italian sweatshirts.
Directions:
We used a GPS to get us to Monticchiello, which was easy. To the property, well, it took a few u-turns because the roads were not exactly well marked. The directions did get us there finally. I wouldn't drive in Italy without a GPS!!!!!!
Check In Out:
I called when I thought we were about an hour or so away, and everything went perfectly with checking in and out. Our proprietor was a lovely person, and always had someone to call to explain anything that was a language barrier problem.
