Customer Reviews

Overall:
It was wonderful and we would recommend it to anyone.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds.
Enjoyed Least:
The bed.
Surrounding Area:
Proximity to pizzeria Maroni and Certaldo.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano and yes, it's walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a pillow and enjoy Certaldo....all restaurants are good in Italy.
Directions:
It was easy to find with GPS.
Check In Out:
We had to leave early and Massimo was great about that.

Overall:
Staying here gave us the opportunity to really experience living in the countryside. It was secluded, quiet and private. We were able to relax and enjoy the many nice features of the property. Returning here after a day of exploring felt like "coming home".
Enjoyed Most:
The rustic simplicity of the house, the quietness of the neighborhood and the lovely setting were some of the best features. It truly felt like a comfortable Italian country home. The lovely covered porch provided a great spot to eat, relax or read.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was simple, but still adequate for a vacation setting.
Surrounding Area:
We really enjoyed the fact that the house was set among farms and little vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Sciano and we did walk there for pizza one day. It was a very easy walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be sure to bring towels to use by the pool. Buy the insect plug-ins at the Coop - they really work well. Be sure to plan what you want to buy before you go to the Coop. The first visit there can be a bit confusing until you understand the procedures of shopping in a new place. Certaldo has several really good restaurants. We had great lunch and dinner experiences in Certaldo Alto. The servers are very welcoming to English speaking guests. The food in the region is excellent!
Directions:
There are two gates for the property. The first gate is open and is the one to use, but you can't see the house when you arrive. The second gate is never opened, but you can see the house when you drive up to it. That is a little confusing. We did use a GPS, but street addresses are a little tricky in the countryside.
Check In Out:
One of the key holders does not speak English. The other does speak a little. While he was very nice and tried to be helpful, it was difficult for him to explain things to us clearly. There is really nothing about the property that needs too much explanation, but it would have been nice to be able to ask more questions about the local area when checking in.

Overall:
We had a delightful time. The location of the property was excellent, with easy access, yet remote enough to be out of the "hustle and bustle" of a main thoroughfare.
Enjoyed Most:
The porch with large table and comfortable chairs was a highlight of this property. Providing shade in a peaceful setting, we were able to be outside, yet very comfortable. We ate, read, played games and had conversations on this porch. Had we been required to be indoors, it would have not been nearly as nice.
Enjoyed Least:
Two things 1) the beds...the mattresses were hard and uncomfortable 2) the grounds were not properly manicured...weeds grew up around the beautiful flowers and took away from the overall experience that could have easily been maintained.
Surrounding Area:
Wonderful area! Easy access to Certaldo by car. The view of the local vineyards was gorgeous. We were not disturbed (other than by barking dogs) and felt very safe thanks to the nightly monitor by a security firm.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was within walking distance...about a 2 km walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa was ready when we arrived. We took a surge protector allowing us to plug one European transformer adapter into the wall and then the surge protector into that. This allowed us ample space for our many American phones, iPads, etc. A stop to the grocery store in Certaldo allowed us to stock up quickly with essential food. I would also suggest a plug-in insect repellent for the bedrooms. This worked fantastically.
Directions:
We did use a GPS, but the directions provided by the villa were sufficient.

Overall:
Our experience was excellent! The Villa was very clean and the annex, with the 3 bedroom with queen-size bed, was newly built. We were there the second week of October and it was quite crisp in the evening. There was no heat, yet, but there were adequate blankets to keep warm. We used the gas stove in the main building to heat things up.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and views were fantastic! The pictures of the property did not do it justice! It looked like what you would expect an Italian Villa would look like. Tall cypress trees, olive grove, and vineyards all around. We had views that were incredible! We could even see San Gimignano in the distance.
Enjoyed Least:
The stove was downsized from what the picture shows, a bit small but usable.
Surrounding Area:
The views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Certaldo but nothing is within walking distance unless you want to walk 5 miles. Certaldo Alto is a real hidden Gem in Italy, wish we didn't wait until our last day to visit there. Great little town and great restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you come in late October or after, you will need heat and the annex does not have heat, whereas the main building does. Maybe they will put in portable heaters? Everything is supplied but you will need to bring food with you. There is a COOP food store down in Certaldo to stock up before you get to the villa. There is a great pizza place down in the piazza in Certaldo and a coffee bar. Cetaldo Alto had really good restaurants.

Overall:
We were very pleased with our villa! It had plenty of space and lots of possibilities (for warmer weather). We all enjoyed exploring the many outdoor spaces and garden areas. Our outside annex was special with its own patio and privacy with its own bathroom lovely colors and fabrics! The kitchen was better than many we'd viewed and was completely workable for the meals we prepared there. We wish we had had more time and warm evenings to make better use of the lovely "porch"! The furniture was comfy and sturdy. Dishes were plentiful and we had everything we needed. However, the coffee pot was extremely slow to brew. And one bathroom was very slow to drain making the shower into a "footbath".
Enjoyed Most:
The location was terrific and the house and grounds were a retreat with great views in every direction! We could even see Sant Gimignano from the back fence! The owners had done a great job thinking of the comfort of the guests! There were even adaptors and batteries!
Enjoyed Least:
The coffee maker was extremely slow brewing, maybe clogged with calcium deposits? And one bathroom (the hall bath in the house) was very slow to drain - both the sink and the shower.
Surrounding Area:
Certaldo was a real GEM! We didn't have a clue how much we'd enjoy spending time there and in Certaldo Alto! The surrounding vineyards were so picturesque we often saw pheasants crossing the rows. We found it fairly easy to locate the COOP and the Pam (grocery stores). The nearness of the train station in Certaldo was also a pleasant surprise. The people we met were friendly and helpful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was within walking distance but not much we'd have visited there. Certaldo was about 6 km away and had great shops and stores and a park and the funiculare to Cetaldo Alto the old city at the top of the hill. We could have spent a few more days in and around Certaldo.
Tips or Restaurants:
We always travel with our own sharp kitchen knives and were glad we had. I drink tea so always bring a hot pot for boiling water (there was a tea kettle). Americans are used to washcloths or "scrunchy-scrubbies", so bring your own. The annex did not have a hairdryer but the house bathrooms did, so I always recommend bringing one. We ate breakfast at the villa, lunch in whatever town we visited that day, and normally cooked our own dinner at the villa! We didn't have any trouble finding good food in Italy!

Overall:
The setting and scenery and yard area were gorgeous and the weather cooperated. An amazing setting.
Enjoyed Least:
No heating until Nov 1, and we had a couple of chilly days/nights. The smallest bathroom had no ventilation, and there was a drainage issue.
Surrounding Area:
Certaldo folks are wonderfully helpful and friendly and Certaldo Alto is a hidden gem--so many folks would love this little town, so beautiful and wonderful food!
Tips or Restaurants:
Certaldo Alto via the Fumiculare has some great little hidden restaurants and the smells are great!
