Customer Reviews

Overall:
Amazing! Very relaxing and held all 14 of us easily!
Enjoyed Most:
Grounds/pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Shared tennis court - felt that we were bothering folks if we were all at the pool at our villa and there were other renters playing.
Surrounding Area:
Everything! The views, the food, etc.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely need to buy citronella candles and ice trays! (It was very hot when we were visiting.)
Directions:
Used GPS and written directions.
Check In Out:
Very easy.

Overall:
We all enjoyed the villa experience. With so many of us, it was great to have the larger villa, especially since the weather was not so good. It rained most of the week, off and on. The kitchen was our favorite meeting place, as was the library.
Enjoyed Most:
It was very spacious. We loved the outdoor table even though we only got to use it twice due to the weather. Loved the kitchen and picking persimmons.
Enjoyed Least:
The washing machine was a challenge. It took a long time to wash and then 3 days to dry things due to the weather. Some of the beds were quite firm.
Surrounding Area:
There were some very nice restaurants, and the huge market was great. We visited Lucca, where there were family members whose great restaurants we visited.
Tips or Restaurants:
LaCecca in Luca was a top-notch restaurant. Be prepared for rain, we were, but not every day!
Directions:
We did not have GPS. After 2 days it was very easy to find. It is also very tricky to drive a van, so try to get by with a smaller vehicle. We think the directions were fine, once you were familiar with the area. We arrived at night during a terrific storm so missed one turn off.
Check In Out:
We believe check in and check out went very smoothly.

Overall:
We had a very enjoyable week spent at this villa and will return again.
Enjoyed Most:
This property is very picturesque and just as it was described on RentVillas.com.
Enjoyed Least:
The parking area and walkway to the villa was not lighted well at night.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen is not stocked with basics. Bring your own salt, pepper, sugar, oil and spices.
Directions:
It's difficult to read the signs at night. Find the villa during the daylight hours!
Check In Out:
Check in went smoothly.

Overall:
Our experience was wonderful. The staff from the owner to housekeeping were all so helpful and friendly. We were made to feel welcome the very first moment we stepped onto the property.
Enjoyed Most:
Being able to walk over to the "main" house for dinner and breakfast if we wanted to was so convenient. Since the property is quite a ways from town going out to dinner and finding the way back after dinner in the dark could be a challenge, so having a place to walk to for dinner after a long day of touring was perfect. The food was world class! The gardens surrounding the villa are lovely and the view was like a picture from every window.
Enjoyed Least:
The two areas I'd suggest need a little tending are the kitchen and the bathrooms. The kitchen while large and homey and a perfect gathering place was not easy to work in. The stove was quite a challenge from lighting the burners to getting them to stay lit. We had many laughs while trying to use the stove and finally developed a two person system for lighting. While the china and silverware were lovely and more than adequate in quantity the cooking pans were not in good shape. I purchased a nice fry pan at the market and left it for the next group. The bathrooms were interesting. Not all bathrooms had a walk-in shower, several had the tub with the handheld shower. The bathrooms with a stand-in shower were not the greatest, one of the doors was duct taped together. Two bathrooms were not on the same floor as the bedroom, one you had to walk up about 4 or 5 steps to get to and the other a flight of stairs because the bathroom was in the attic. Did I mention the tree trunk running through those two showers? I realize this is a charming 500 year old home and we loved our time there but we were not prepared for the rustic bathrooms.
Surrounding Area:
The area was good for day trips. We did the usual Pisa and Cinque Terre (or we now call it Cinque Terror) but very crowded. We did a wine tour one day of 2 local wineries and one day took the train to Florence for a walking food tour, very easy to do the train into Florence. Barga was nice but not as wonderful as reviews led us to believe. The town we loved was Volterra--what a lovely drive and fantastic views, great shops.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Milara. Not really in walking distance. The roads are narrow so walking along is dangerous. One minus was the fact that the grocery store was not close nor easy to find (until you found it for the first time)
Tips or Restaurants:
You must have a GPS! The food provided at the villa restaurant is wonderful. Do not plan on using the laundry facilities, the washing machine takes very long and then clothes must air dry which takes again very long.
Directions:
The directions are very detailed and good. I suggest the first time arrive in daylight! A GPS is a must have!
Check In Out:
Very smooth. Great that they take credit cards. Monica in the office is a treasure!

Overall:
There were 11 of us and we had a wonderful time at the villa Lucchesia. It is a little ways out of Lucca and a bit hard to find but once there, it was just lovely. We found it easy to travel around Tuscany to different places.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa itself was very beautiful but the grounds were just outstanding. The gardens were lovely at every turn. We also loved it that we could dine at the main house and did that three times - the meals were wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
For some, the bathrooms were upstairs from their room and that was a bit of a challenge and future travelers should know that in case there are any physical limitations. The house itself is very large and we spent a lot of time in the kitchen and main living room.
Surrounding Area:
Lucca was lovely and the proximity to Pisa and Florence was very good. We also traveled to Barga and Volterra during out week there. Volterra was our favorite - it has a well preserved Roman amphithteater as well as other attractions, good restaurants and great shopping in little streets and by ways. Alabaster is what Volterrra is known for.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I am not sure if there is a town within walking distance - we did not venture out walking too far.
Tips or Restaurants:
We did do a wine tasting tour that included lunch at one of the wineries in the area and had a wonderful day doing that. The tour company was located in Florence, I think but the drivers and guides were local to Lucca or nearby. We also had a food tour with an excellent guide in Florence, which was delightful.
Directions:
We relied heavily on the GPS and it is essential, especially if driving after dark. I would strongly suggest that people bring or rent a GPS if they are planning on driiving in Tuscany. The Rick Steves Tuscany 2014 is also very helpful, especially when visiting the towns in Tuscany - he gives detailed info on where to park, walking tours, restaurants and sites in most of the hill towns. We used that book every day during our stay and have relied on his books for past trips as well.
Check In Out:
The check in/check out was very efficient.

Overall:
Monica was very easy and pleasant to work with. She coordinated breakfasts and a large dinner gathering during our stay. Everything was fabulous!
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful setting.
Enjoyed Least:
Many of the guests got lost upon arrival.
Surrounding Area:
Wine tastings, sightseeing tours, dinners out.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monte in Segromigno was not really within walking distance. Lucca is a short drive away.
Directions:
GPS did not always work in the area.

Angie, May

Overall:
Our stay at Villa Lucchesia was wonderful. After three weeks we felt at home! We would wake up to coffee and a cozy fire that my husband had started in the big kitchen fireplace. We and our guests would meet back at "home" for dinners outside or in. The tables for dining can seat 12- 14.
Enjoyed Most:
The gathering spaces were terrific around the big kitchen table, the outdoor dining table, cocktail hour by the pool with a sunset view of the olive groves and hills beyond, or in the living room relaxing on the abundant furniture around the fireplace.
Enjoyed Least:
We could not walk to town. Although the info says town is 1 km, it's not walkable as the road is narrow and curvy and seemingly dangerous. We had to use a car to go anywhere. Also, there could be better lighting, especially in the kitchen. We brought a floor lamp into the kitchen to supplement the one hanging bulb and stovetop light.
Surrounding Area:
We LOVED Barga! A quintessential Italian hill town with no tourists!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucca was a 20 min drive. Segromigno in Monte was much closer, but not much there to do or see.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurants recommended by the villa were good.
Directions:
We and our friends used GPS with varying degrees of success. You might want to let people know that Segromigno in Monte is the town and Via di Valgiano is the street. It was difficult for some to find!
Check In Out:
Totally easy.

Lorry, October

Overall:
We loved our stay. The property is gorgeous and the villa is maintained very well. Everything was immaculate and in excellent repair.
Enjoyed Most:
We particularly loved the kitchen and living room and spent lots of time preparing food and hanging out in those two rooms. The fact that each bedroom had its own bathroom is a definite plus! Pool is lovely. Several played tennis on the nice courts nearly every morning.
Enjoyed Least:
We had a hard time finding it but once there, Marcello showed us an easy way in and out.
Surrounding Area:
Lucca is a really interesting town and we spent quite a few hours there shopping and exploring the beautiful little streets of the town. Train station was easy to get to and use as well.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucca. Nothing is truly in walking distance because the property is in a very hilly area with narrow winding streets and no sidewalks. There are a few tiny restaurants, a gas station and grocery store in Segromigno.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring insect repellant (during warm weather) and sunscreen.
Check In Out:
Check in was great. We were the first ones there and Marcello met us and showed us around. Monica was also very helpful in answering our questions and helping us with directions, etc.

Sharon, October

Overall:
Absolutely fabulous. A really lovely villa for large groups. The house is huge, and as each of the 7 bedrooms has its own bathroom, it's very comfortable and private. The grounds are immaculate. The weather was fantastic so we were able to eat dinner outside together at the large patio table--bellissimo!
Enjoyed Most:
Its private, quiet location and fantastic view. We would look out over the pool in the late afternoon and see hot air balloons. Also, the property is kept up very nicely. Having a tennis court was a big plus. And loved that there was an herb garden.
Enjoyed Least:
The barbecue grill was much too small for such a large house. It was tough to grill chops for 14 people!
Surrounding Area:
Discovering small towns (i.e. Barga) as well as the close proximity to Lucca. However, you need a car to get anywhere.
Nearby Events or Locales:
No town was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ask owner in advance to provide an adult-sized bocce ball set if you like to play. In my bathroom, a hairdryer was provided, but you need an adapter to make it work, so be sure to bring your own adapters. For a special dinner, be sure to go to Tenuta up the hill. BRING a GPS!
Directions:
We used a GPS. Since I didn't drive, I'm not sure our friend who drove would have found the villa if he only used the written directions provided. There were so many little twists and turns in the narrow road; it's not the easiest place to get to, especially in the dark.

Janice, October

Overall:
Fabulous!
Enjoyed Most:
A great gathering spot for family and friends. Relaxing with so many wonderful gathering spots--dawn to dusk, rain or shine! Monica really helped with restaurant reservations, directions, rental car issues. She is a gem!!
Enjoyed Least:
The lighting in a few rooms could have been brighter.
Surrounding Area:
Day trips to Florence, Cinque Terre, Southern Tuscany and of course Lucca !
Tips or Restaurants:
Restaurants you recommended were great.
Directions:
Our GPS in our rental car couldn't find the property with the address but my iPhone and Mapquest had no problem!
Check In Out:
All simple and seamless!

Anne, October

Overall:
The property was very authentic and historic yet the modern conveniences made it comfortable and enjoyable. It was nice to walk and relax while viewing the lovely grottoes and vistas. It felt cozy in the house despite its vastness. Overall it was a wonderfully blissful experience!
Enjoyed Most:
It was large enough to accommodate the 12 of us, yet cozy enough to allow us to break into smaller groups for activities and discussions.
Enjoyed Least:
The Internet connection was not good. It needs to be stronger to be received throughout the house to allow people to work in private.
Surrounding Area:
It was easy to get around with GPS. Otherwise it's difficult to figure out directions. But once it all begins to feel familiar, it get easier and easier.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucca was not within walking distance.
Directions:
We used GPS but the written directions to the villa were perfect.

Scott, October

Overall:
It was like a dream - a wonderful, wonderful week, even though the weather was a bit rainy.
Enjoyed Most:
The fireplace in the kitchen, the huge entry way, the tile floors, the vegetation, driving and walking through the olive groves, the herbs just out the front door, the ability to eat outside. The list goes on....
Enjoyed Least:
The shower in our bathroom.
Surrounding Area:
Lucca was wonderful - not very crowded, walking the wall was amazing - it felt like a real town, not a tourist town.
Check In Out:
It was hard to find the place to check in - we arrived in the rain and the cab driver had a hard time finding where we were supposed to go.
