Customer Reviews

Overall:
Outstanding and memorable experience for all of us.
Enjoyed Most:
Location in a quaint small village with easy access to grocery stores, cafes and restaurants. Having an independent apartment.
Surrounding Area:
Good location and easy access to Florence and Arezzo.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Villa was located in a quaint small village with easy access to facilities.
Directions:
We did not use GPS but instead old fashioned maps that worked!
Check In Out:
Both worked out excellently.

Bruce, May

Overall:
Very enjoyable authentic experience in small town Italy.
Enjoyed Most:
Outdoor living spaces.
Enjoyed Least:
Bathrooms. The shower stalls were small.
Surrounding Area:
Local bakery and pizzeria. Authentic small town Italian experience.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Our villa was located in town.
Tips or Restaurants:
The local bakery and pizzeria were excellent for mornings and evenings in town.
Directions:
No problems finding the property.
Check In Out:
There was some confusion as to when we were checking out, due primarily to a language barrier.

Catherine, October

Overall:
The property was a very good home base for exploring the surrounding areas in Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
The outside covered terrace was delightful. The view was spectacular. Unfortunately the weather limited our outside time. Walking distance to the grocery store and some restaurants. The property was a short drive to St. Ellera where we got the train to Florence.
Enjoyed Least:
The bathroom in the second bedroom was too small. The other couple had to use the attached apartment which turned out to be fine. The decorations tended towards 'bad' antique shop, although it was comfortable. Wired internet availability, which was described in the description of the property, was NOT available. Editor's Note: The week of May 21-28, 2015 there were issues with the internet connection; these have since been resolved and internet access continues to be available. June, 2015
Surrounding Area:
Donnini itself was delightful. It was small and quaint. Florence and Tuscany lived up to our expectations. Beautiful medieval towns. Great art, and beautiful countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Besides Donnini, St. Ellera was 4 km away (not walkable).
Tips or Restaurants:
The property was well equipped. The local grocery store had more than you'd expect for it's small size and had all that we needed.
Directions:
We did use a GPS. We were told to call the key holder an hour before we arrived. He met us in the center of town as he promised. We could not have found the property without his help.
Check In Out:
No problems on either end.

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and the view were excellent, as well as the outside areas.
Enjoyed Least:
The pool might have been tended to before arrival. Also, in mid September the sun did not reach the pool so the water was cold. The children (vikings) had some fun there, but the pool was in fact of no use.
Surrounding Area:
Everything. Fantastic landscape to enjoy from the terraces and walks. And we enjoyed the village with a good selection of amenities for such a small village. Everything we needed was within a minute's walk. Bakery, butcher, tiny supermarket, and last but least- Marco's cafė cum delicatessen.
Nearby Events or Locales:
No town in walking distance, but that was no worry to us as everything was available in Donnini village. Also we had rented cars and got around for sightseeing.
Tips or Restaurants:
Guests should be informed that the pool is quite cold in mid-September. Local Donnini restaurant serves great pizzas.
Directions:
We drove from Pisa, using a GPS. Think we would have had some trouble towards the end of the journey without it. Sorry, but not able to give specific recommendations. Apart from stick to autostrada as long as possible.
Check In Out:
We had a list of three contact persons. The two first priorities never answered. But number three, Marco, the bar owner, turned out to be our man. So very friendly and helpful in every way! So check in and out was perfect.

Enjoyed Most:
The deck was nice for sitting outside and having a meal and a drink.
Enjoyed Least:
We found the inside to be dark and somewhat cluttered. I also thought that the outdoor area could do with a thorough cleaning.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring or buy mosquito repellent.
Directions:
Must have GPS. Have a small car as the roads are narrow.
Check In Out:
It's helpful to know some basic Italian.

Overall:
The combination of rural views and town location was superb. We went to the bakery every day for fresh-made breakfast croissants and ate them with good home-brewed coffee looking at the olive grove immediately off the terrace and the Tuscan hills in the distance. All necessary stores are available on foot. The railroad station is conveniently close.
Enjoyed Most:
We could shop, eat in a restaurant or go to the coffee bar without getting in a car.
Enjoyed Least:
When we arrived, it was unseasonably cold, so the manager turned on the heat (hot water radiator-type). As a consequence, we did not have hot water for showers or kitchen for two days until I discovered that the same tank heating the radiators supplied the showers/kitchen. I turned the heat off, as we preferred hot water. Three calls to management produced no response; we had to fix the problem ourselves.
Surrounding Area:
The feeling that we were living on the same time schedule and with the same amenities as the local population.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is in the town. All shops, the restaurant, the ATM, the post office and the news stand are within 150 yards of the front door.
Tips or Restaurants:
If one wants to take the train into Firenze, the station is in Sant' Ellero, about four kilometers away down the hill Donnini sits on. The station parking lot fills quickly in the morning on week days with commuters taking the train into the city. So, get there early or plan on parking across the street from the little restaurant in Sant' Ellero (right next to the Donnini turn) and walking to the station about a quarter of a mile.
Directions:
The directions to the property were good - we arrived in three different parties and all found the Town of Donnini including the final turn without incident and without using GPS.
Check In Out:
There were no surprises in terms of charges or times.

Overall:
It was a delightful experience. I loved the small village and the villa was so comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
It was so very well-equipped. Including an office with a computer, printer, and phone for local toll free call. We had lemon trees on the patio in addition to many interesting artifacts. The pool patio had a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape.
Enjoyed Least:
Had too many chairs in living room.
Surrounding Area:
We were located in an area that was convenient to other towns and train transportation.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Donnini. The town was 50 meters from our villa. The train station was in Sant'Ellero which is only 2 miles away.
Tips or Restaurants:
The one restaurant in Donnini was very good. We loved their pizza--it was very different.
Directions:
The directions were fine. We also used MapQuest.
Check In Out:
We arrived in the late evening and the key holder's husband met us at the street we were to turn into. It was a tiny street which we would probably have missed if he hadn't been waiting for us. I thought was it very considerate. We were given two bags of fresh baked bread, a bottle of wine, cheese and prosciutto. We were thrilled with the hospitality.
