Customer Reviews

Overall:
From start to finish we had a wonderful experience! The property itself is so beautiful, clean, and welcoming inside and out. It is tastefully decorated and has so much charm and character. Sarah, the property owner, was so sweet and helpful. For us, as American English speakers, it was very welcoming to be greeted by an American English speaker. It just made communication easy and because Sarah was so friendly and welcoming from the start we felt comfortable and at home. The villa was equipped with everything we needed, including a fully stocked kitchen (meaning pots, pans, plates, utensils, coffee maker, microwave, wine bottle openers, etc. - not food), bath towels, bedding, hair dryers, and the Internet. It was lovely!
Enjoyed Most:
The way it was decorated, it's cleanliness, and how peaceful it was.
Surrounding Area:
I loved that we were not in a congested, touristy area. Being in a small town allowed us to relax more.
Nearby Events or Locales:
La Spezia was the nearest small town. It is walkable but the road is hilly and windy so it is better to go by cartaxibus.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely bring adapters for using your electronics. Bring shampoo and conditioner. Don't forget to bring a swimsuit! La Gira is a restaurant that Sarah told us about. It is a small neighborhood restaurant that is walking distance from the Villa (very convenient). The food is decent. The hours are hard to predict. In La Spezia we ate at a restaurant called Vicolo Intherno. It can be described as modern Italian. It was yummy!
Directions:
We used GPS to get from the Genova airport to the villa. We started using the written directions we were given as we got closer to the lla. Although the directions are very detailed, because the villa is tucked away and not visible from the street, we still managed to pass it.
Check In Out:
No additional comments. Check in and check out were straightforward and easy.

Overall:
This villa was amazing and far exceeded my expectations. It was absolutely beautiful -everything from the plush landscape and stunning views, to the quaint furnishings. Everyday we woke up in awe that we had the opportunity to stay at such a lovely place it was like paradise. The bedrooms were all cozy and nicely decorated and offered views from every window. The bathrooms were clean and up-to-date. There were lots of comfy places to eat and lounge. The kitchen was also cute and well stocked-we used it every morning to cook breakfast and a few other meals. Sarah was absolutely amazing and extended herself in more than one way during our stay. She was very responsive if we had any questions or needed help beyond her call of duty. I really look forward to staying at one of her properties again and wish that she had them all around the world.
Enjoyed Most:
It is hard to say what I like most because I loved everything! If I had to choose, I would say the outdoor space. The covered patio area was the perfect place to sip my morning coffee while taking in the scenery. We also enjoyed a few meals outside and had several late nights by the fire pit. There were lots of candles to light and even a heat lamp for the cool evenings. The infinity pool was also perfect for those days of relaxation. There is nothing like being able to take a dip in a pool while simultaneously enjoying the view of La Spezia below.
Enjoyed Least:
I loved everything about the property itself. The only thing that was some what difficult was that everything surrounding it closed really early.
Surrounding Area:
I loved the views and charm of La Spezia. It was amazing to be able to take in the mountains and sea in the same view. It did not seem to be a real touristy area which is part of its charm -it made for more of a local experience which I appreciate when traveling to another country.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was La Spezia. It was probably a 2 mile walk from the villa. There were a couple of restaurants in walking distance that we frequented during our stay for cuisine authentic to the area.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would suggest renting a car. It is hard to get a taxi or catch a bus from the villa unless you have a way to call and request one. Also, don't forget to bring adapters for anything you will need to plug, i.e. laps, cell phones, etc. There was a great restaurant at the top of the steps on the property. We ate there almost every day. I would also recommend Vicolo Intherno which is in La Spezia. There was a grocery store called the Penny Mart I think. It was very close to the villa and a affordable place to stock up on food and wine.
Directions:
The directions to the property are great. If you put the information in the GPS the way the way you are instructed, and actually read the directions, you should be just fine.
Check In Out:
The check in and out process was fine. Sarah was absolutely lovely to work with. The airline lost our luggage so we arrived later than expected. We notified Sarah when we were going to be late and she was perfectly flexible and even notified the chef that we would be late so that we could have a little more time to settle in before they arrived.

Overall:
We loved the property. The view is amazing and the landscaping is beautiful.
Enjoyed Most:
The property felt like a retreat. The view and all of the flowers and fruit trees made for a perfect spot after a day filled with tourist activities.
Surrounding Area:
The property is just up the hill from a great town, filled with shopping, open air markets and restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The property is walking distance to a cute market and a restaurant.
Check In Out:
Both check in and check out was easy and pleasant.

Overall:
It was a lovely place to stay.
Enjoyed Most:
The area was great for exploring La Spezia and the Cinque Terre.

Overall:
We loved our time at this house. The owner, Sarah, has done a beautiful job of decorating the house and was very welcoming and helpful during our stay. She had some wine and pasta for us when she met us and provided us with great local travel recommendations.
Enjoyed Most:
The house has been restored so the bathrooms are new and very nice. The showers work great and there is a tub in one of the bathrooms. The bedrooms and bathrooms are roomy and very pleasant. The kitchen is small but more than adequate for cooking a meal which we did on several occasions. The exterior patio and view is fabulous and a highlight of the home. Refreshing ourselves in the pool was a welcome addition to the outside. Being in the pool which has a negative edge and overlooking the view of the Mediterranean Sea was just a delight. My wife's favorite room in the house was the laundry room with a nice modern washer and dryer. She loved the large antique marble sink with its big drain board where she could rinse and hand wash items. She chose to dry everything on the drying racks provided outside in the sun and breeze.
Surrounding Area:
We chose this villa for its central location on the coast. We were able to easily take the train or drive either direction to explore the area. There are a lot of wonderful towns easily accessible for day trips in both directions.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There is not really a small town nearby. There is a small grocery and restaurant an easy walk up the hill. We chose to drive down the hill into the outskirts of La Spezia where there is a large grocery and a good bakery. There is also a great open air food market daily in the center of town where we shopped for our cooking.
Directions:
The street number, 41, can not be seen from the road. It is easy to find number 42, and the driveway for 41 is the next driveway on the same side of the road (right) but it is about 100 meters or so further down the road. The driveway is more of a dirt car track just before a large house. We did use GPS.
Check In Out:
That all went very smoothly..

Kimball, June

Overall:
Very quaint, very quiet, very much the Italian experience we had hoped for.
Enjoyed Most:
The kitchen was exceptionally well-equipped, making it a joy to cook and eat in.
Enjoyed Least:
The steep stairs, though with the handrails they were certainly manageable.
Surrounding Area:
The whole area is picturesque. Cinque Terre was wonderful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We did not walk to La Spezia as it was quite a long walk and hilly. Plus it rained a lot.
Tips or Restaurants:
Clothes dryers in Europe are very slow. Bring clothes that can be washed and hung to dry.
Directions:
There are lots of peach colored houses and stone walls and we stopped too soon.
Check In Out:
It went smoothly and Sarah was a delight to work with. She went out of her was to accommodate us. Communication was easy.

Katie, May

Overall:
Relaxing and enjoyable.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was fabulous and our group loved the patio area.
Surrounding Area:
Our group enjoyed the old Roman trail next to the property.
Nearby Events or Locales:
La Spezia was the closest city where we purchased items but was not really within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Your list covers the essentials.
Directions:
We used GPS but property was a bit difficult to find. The driveway was obscure.
Check In Out:
Check in and out were seamless - very nice.

Diane , September

Overall:
We loved everything about our stay!
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful outside area. We spent most of our time there. The bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful. Very comfortable beds. Excellent location.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing really. It was a bit difficult to find (since we were all coming from different places and it was hard to communicate during "moving in" day).
Surrounding Area:
The amazing view of the Poet's Gulf.
Nearby Events or Locales:
La Spezia, but it's not within walking distance. This is OK, since there is a great restaurant in walking distance and we had cars for the week to get into town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely bring beach towels (if going during the summer). We loved the beaches at Portovenere, Vernazza, and Monerosso. We loved taking the ferry to Portovenere (also drove there). Great restaurants and atmosphere. The restaurant up the hill (La Gira) was excellent.
Directions:
The GPS did not get us to the property and the directions could be improved. The nearby restaurant "La Gira" is a good landmark to mention. It may also make sense to rent a car in Genova or Milano, since the car rental place in town was closed by the time we arrived (our train was delayed).
Check In Out:
Alessia was amazing in every way and was incredibly helpful to us.

Charlotte, September

Overall:
The best ever. Sarah was fantastic and we felt right at home.
Enjoyed Most:
Every single little thing.
Enjoyed Least:
Loved it all.
Surrounding Area:
Very easy access to everywhere.
Nearby Events or Locales:
La Spezia--not within walking distance. Sarah's drivers were the tops. They were practically at our beck and call.
Directions:
We used a driver and that too is well worth it.

Anthony, June

Overall:
We had a great time. The location was quiet with wonderful views that added to our relaxing experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The separate bedrooms and baths were very nice. We also cooked several nights so the kitchen was well stocked and provided a good place for meal prep.
Surrounding Area:
We liked that we were not in the town; there were lots of places to walk and explore.
Nearby Events or Locales:
La Gira was just up the walk and that gave us a place to go for necessities. La Spezia was 3k away so ususally we drove. However, we did walk it for fun a couple of times.
Tips or Restaurants:
In addition to the restaurants recommended at the villa we found a small place about 4 km away called San Rocco. Nice young couple runs it. Head up the road towards the pizza place and go right for another 2 km or so.
Directions:
Tough place to find. My GPS didn't work well on the winding road. Sarah came and got us in town.

Tim, May

Overall:
Very good. We enjoyed the stay a great deal and would stay there again.
Enjoyed Most:
Peace and quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
Condition of some of the outside space. One of the outdoor umbrellas was broken and a good portion of the yard was dug up for a new propane tank.
Surrounding Area:
Easy access to Cinque Terre, Pisa and Lucca
Nearby Events or Locales:
La Spezia. Could walk there if one wanted to.
Tips or Restaurants:
Good pizza place at the top of the hill.

Michael, March

Overall:
We had a wonderful experience. This was a very memorable vacation for our entire group.
Enjoyed Most:
First and foremost, the property owner, Sarah, is an incredible hostess. She was very responsive and helpful. Second, the property is very comfortable. It offers a near perfect balance of rustic charm with newer conveniences. The kitchen and bathrooms are well-equipped with modern appliances and fixtures. For our group, 2 couples and 1 single, it was a great set-up that allowed for separate accomodations and also areas to enjoy together as a group the kitchen, dining room, and TV room. I loved waking up to the views of Poet's Bay. The location was very quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
The location was quiet because it is rather remote. Having a car is a must at this location. In order to go anywhere, you must navigate a very steep series of switchbacks since the villa is located on a hill above La Spezia. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the autostrade, and that grew a bit tiresome. Traffic in La Spezia is pretty intense, so if you have any hesitancy about driving with crazy Italian drivers, this should be a consideration for you.
Surrounding Area:
We took the boat from Portovenere to visit the towns of Cinque Terre--that was a great day! We also visited Portofino, which is lovely. My husband and I drove there. Several days later the others visited by train to Santa Margherita--train was probably the better option as parking in Portofino is very limited. Lerici is also a beautiful town to visit. My husband and I enjoyed a day trip to Lucca, about a 90-minute drive at most from La Spezia. We were not very impressed by La Spezia, with the exception of a park along the waterfront.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There was not as much within walking distance, as I expected. There is a stone walkway, but if you take it towards town, it is very steep, and it leads to a part of town that isn't very "quaint". There is a restaurant accessible via the stone path going in the opposite direction--La Gira. We tried it one evening--it was AWFUL! Our favorite meals were the dinners we prepared in the villa, and the lunches we enjoyed while touring nearby local towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
Buy groceries at a local market and prepare meals to enjoy at the villa--this was a highlight of our trip! Fortuntely our group included a very adept chef.
Directions:
It was difficult to find the villa, even when using the coordinates and the GPS. Navigating the route through La Spezia to the villa was challenging. We got lost many times. Bring a good dose of patience.

Carin, October

Overall:
The Villa was wonderful in every way, beyond expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The friendliness of the owners and the outdoor patio overlooking the sea. Also the wonderful kitchen.
Enjoyed Least:
Just the lighting in the bathrooms- hard to see. But the bathrooms were lovely.
Surrounding Area:
We liked the stone pathway in both directions from the house, the violins lessons we could hear from below, and the osteria and trattorias and pizza shop close by. We like the Hotel Nella and the service.
Nearby Events or Locales:
LaSpezia was closest. You wouldn't want to walk there on the road but you could use the stone path.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owners are going to put up railings for the staircases, which are sorely needed if you are very young or have any kind of balance or walking problems. We liked the Hotel Nella, the pizza place right across the street from the hotel, The ristorante that started with a "G" that has had the same owners for 140 yrs., and the local osteria.
Check In Out:
Sarah and Franco were extremely welcoming. We felt as if we were visiting friends.

Marion, July

Overall:
Our stay at Villa Ormeasco was fantastic! Looking out on the panoramic view of the Bay of Poets on the large patio with colorfully cushioned benches and a huge stone table was where we began each day with coffee, where we took a cooking lesson one day, and where we ended each day watching the fireflies with a glass of wine. Our trips to Cinque Terre by train and to Portovenere and Portofino by car were very convenient via La Spezia, but the house was really the best part of our vacation.
Enjoyed Most:
The home owner was the best part - you can communicate with her because she is American but has now lived in Italy as long as she lived in Texas and she is so friendly and helpful! The bedrooms and baths were extremely comfortable too, and the kitchen and living room had everything we needed.
Enjoyed Least:
Hard to think of anything, but I would have appreciated better instructions for taking advantage of the trials.
Surrounding Area:
I enjoyed being in a real neighborhood but not too close to any neighbors. There was a nice combination of nature and people. There were several very authentic neighborhood restaurants close by too.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Portovenere and then Riomaggiore were the nearest toward the sea, and Ricco del Golfe was the closest by car. I guess La Spezia is too large to qualify, but it was the closest. None were walking distance. The restaurant at the top of the hill on the walking path was not open our week, and the grocery store across from it had no sign and unpredictable hours so we didn't find it until the last day. These were disappointments, but I still love the place!
