Customer Reviews

Overall:
Overall experience was very good. We all loved the views and the villa mostly ticked all 8 of our boxes.
Enjoyed Most:
The view - it was magnificent , outstanding and exceptional .
Enjoyed Least:
The location from Meina village although it may well only be 1 km ...it was very steep roads coming back. This said we still had a fabulous time and made the most if the villa by eating in most if the time looking at the incredible view of the lake.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery was just so wonderful. Waking up to that view each day made us all feel great and chilled. We all went on the day trip to Lugano in Switzerland. Boat home was amazing. We also drove to Lake Orta which was about 40 kilometres away. We wanted to take our pals there because we had been before and it is a charming little place. We visited the little Island of Silence by little tender in the middle of the lake. It was a great day out and we all said we would like to re-visit this little gem in the future.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Meina - yes it was within walking distance on paper which was one if the briefs we all wanted when looking for a villa. Sadly it was just too difficult a trek on the way back to walk it more than once which was a little disappointing as we usually like to eat out in the local villages a couple of times during the week. There was possibly one man taxi service but with there being 8 of us it wasn't practical.
Tips or Restaurants:
You will need plenty of mosquito spray, and bite creams. You don't need towels of any kind as there are both bathroom and poolside towels. There is a hair dryer in each bedroom. There is only one pillow per person so if like us you like two, request in advance. The owner is very welcoming and friendly and accommodating . We arrived to milk, pasta, homemade Napoli sauce in the fridge for our first night and a bottle of prosecco which was lovely and made us feel very welcome.
Directions:
Yes and we still got lost. The road signs in Italy generally are not great. Just make sure your on the auto-strada going towards Milan and not Lake Como! (We flew into Bergamo)
Check In Out:
No everything was fine.

Overall:
Peaceful and serene.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and the sizable bedrooms.
Enjoyed Least:
No complaints.
Surrounding Area:
The town was sweet and the lake area was easily accessible from the house.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Meina...steep hill but close.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be aware that the market and shops close in the afternoons in Meina. Shop early mornings.

Overall:
We loved Villa Maggiore. The beautiful home was a perfect setting for a family and friends reunion. We spent most of our time sitting out on the back porch catching up and taking in the incredible view. It could not have been a better choice for all of us.
Enjoyed Most:
One of my favorite parts of the house was the incredible kitchen that was so well stocked. The house felt very spacious and bright with so many places to sit and take in the views.
Enjoyed Least:
Driving back and forth to town.
Surrounding Area:
I loved visiting the Borromean Islands, incredibly beautiful and magical. The area was very peaceful and it was easy to travel from town to town. We also went to visit Lake Orta for the day and visited Isola San Giulio. I traveled all over Italy after visiting this area and some of these islands were my best memories.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Meina was the closest town but the hill was very steep coming back up to the villa from town so it is walking distance but a strenuous one. We chose to drive most of the time.
Tips or Restaurants:
I loved the small grocery store in Meina. It had most of what we needed and a great selection of cheeses and meats. The bakery across from it was very yummy too. The kitchen was well equipped so it was a joy to cook there.
Directions:
We used our GPS quite a bit because the streets can be tricky there until you get used to lay of the land.
Check In Out:
The owners met us upon arrival and were so helpful in seeing that we got settled and introduced to the property. You could tell that they take much pride and care of their property and making sure that their visitors are satisfied. At check out the owner met us at the house to gather keys and collect cleaning fees for cleaning service. I ended up forgetting an item at the villa and the owners sent it to me at my next stop in Italy. We were so impressed with the care and quality of our stay and services.

Overall:
Lovely home. We enjoyed the outdoor area and the view immensely. The house was very comfortable and well-equipped.
Enjoyed Most:
The outdoor area and the view.
Enjoyed Least:
There was some neighborhood noise from lawnmowers and leaf blowers.
Surrounding Area:
The lake is gorgeous. One day we took a boat to two of the islands. Another day we took the hydrofoil up the lake to Switzerland. The small town of Meina was fun to visit. The market has most of what we needed and the bakery had wonderful bread and eating our last night at Cin Cin was a real treat.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Meina. We drove since the hike back up the hill would have been too strenuous. We did enjoy walking up hill from the villa to Dagnente, a great little village. The restaurant had wine for one Euro and they brought us potato chips while we sat on their terrace overlooking the lake. We ended up going to a large Super Mercato south of Arona for major shopping.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't miss Cin Cin in Meine. They serve very good wine and ample appetizers on their outdoor terrace.
Directions:
We brought our own GPS with European maps. I wouldn't have wanted to try to navigate without it.
Check In Out:
Very easy check in and check out. They gave us homemade pasta and sauce for our first night's meal which was wonderful.

Overall:
The villa was exquisite and much more than I'd imagined. The space worked out perfectly for the number of people we had. The view was spectacular and the pool a welcome relief from the heat in town. My family was able to really relax.
Enjoyed Most:
The location - far enough from the tourist crowds and vacationers in town but close enough when we wanted to go somewhere.
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitos outside at night - not conducive to staying outdoors after dark. And there was a bit of an ant problem in one of the bedrooms.
Surrounding Area:
Enough attractions to see and nice restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Meina was a bit of a hike down but manageable for the able-bodied. Not much happening there after 7 p.m. though. Arona was only a 5 min. car ride and there is much more happening there.
Tips or Restaurants:
Citronella candles? We bought some pool toys since we had children; there were none there - we donated them to the house. The gelaterias were excellent.
Directions:
We did use a GPS to get everywhere.
Check In Out:
It was perfect and we really appreciated being able to check in a couple hours earlier since we had traveled all night. The owner was very accommodating--even met us at a restaurant in the town to lead us to the house.
