Customer Reviews

Overall:
We really enjoyed the villa itself. It is spacious and comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
It is well-equipped and spacious. The two outdoor decks are spectacular.
Enjoyed Least:
The location isn't ideal. It is near a parking garage. The view from the bottom floor is obscured by the building across the street.
Surrounding Area:
The Amalfi Coast is spectacular.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I believe it is Priano. Nothing is within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
You really can't go wrong in Positano. Bring more money than you think you need!
Check In Out:
It all went smoothly.

Dana , July

Overall:
Very good. It was correctly represented on RentVillas.com
Enjoyed Most:
Closeness to town, beach, and well laid-out accommodation.
Enjoyed Least:
Bit noisy as on the street.
Directions:
Always use GPS.

Fiona, July

Overall:
We loved Positano, though the stairs up from the beach can be quite daunting.
Enjoyed Most:
We spent all our time on the veranda - cool, inviting, a wonderful view. The kitchen was well stocked, and we had two meals worth of groceries awaiting us when we arrived. A marvelous surprise!
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen is very small. Noisy garbage collection every morning.
Surrounding Area:
A beautiful, picturesque town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Everything is within walking distance along the one-way road that meanders down the hillside. Two small grocery stores, not a lot to choose from. Fresh meat is rare.
Tips or Restaurants:
When going down the road, the first restaurant has excellent take-away pizza, but high prices, otherwise. The restaurant next door has excellent, entertaining service, and the food and prices are fine.
Directions:
Making connections was a challenge. If arriving by SITA bus, we found it best to walk down the road to the Best Western, and call from there. The villa is just down from the Best Western.
Check In Out:
Very accommodating. Charge for electricity for the week was 50 euro.

Charles, June

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the size of the terrace.
Enjoyed Least:
The damp bathroom and bedroom downstairs.
Surrounding Area:
You do not have to go out of Positano as this a wonderful town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Eat as much seafood as you can!

Christine , July

Enjoyed Most:
The outside terraces were excellent for sitting or eating. The views are really spectacular. Each of the tree couples had a bedroom and bath not all en suite. The washer came in handy--drying on clotheslines. Location is good as far as restaurants and shopping, etc. Convenient to bus stop. Great local management company.
Enjoyed Least:
The villa is just above the main road, so there is road noise until midnight or so. The dumpsters are across the road and get emptied at 5-530 in the mornings. The kitchen is not set up for a lot of cooking--not much counter space. Spiral stone stairs in the villa have no handrails. Definitely not for the handicapped. No Internet and only Italian TV. Someone had turned off the water - kids? - on the roof, so the management com- pany had to send help.
Surrounding Area:
We loved taking the ferries to other towns on the Amalfi coast--beautiful sights from the water. We visited Amalfi, Ravello, and Capri by boat. The beach is not too far and is very usable.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is in Positano and near enough to the beach to walk there. A lot of up and down in the walking! Bus is available to other towns, as are ferries. Small grocery and several restaurants easily walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
Villa comes stocked with necessities which were excellent. Hair dryer in one bathroom only. Bring a wash cloth if you use one. Some restaurants take only Euros, no charge cards. For meals, we liked Saraceno at the bottom of the stairs across from the villa. I knew the area was very steep in general, but had no idea how steep!! My husband and I have done a lot of home construction and remodeling, and were fascinated with the construction of this villa (and others, we assume!). They are literally built into the hills and are stacked. Our roof was the patio space for a villa above! The window of our bath was inside a small, gated, locked cave-like space which we assume was used as storage, or utilities?? Every possible space was used for something!! There were two levels of terraces (one was for entry to the property with a flight of exterior stairs up to the living room entrance) and the interior had four levels--two bedrooms and baths on the lowest level (and the entry terrace), living room and kitchen on one level a half flight up from the two bedrooms, a dining room another half flight up, and the final bedrooms (one queen and one single) plus one bath on the top level, two flights up. Although there is a garage, I recommend not driving! The availability of buses and ferries is so convenient, there is really no need for a car. The roads are narrow and winding and the availability of parking wherever you go is either non- existent or very expensive!
Directions:
Since the main road through Positano is one way very narrow, if you get to the "parking Anna" you have gone about 200ft past the villa. Our driver spoke with the local agent and got directions.
Check In Out:
Andrea to checked us in and out. He was excellent and spoke English. He also solved the water problem. He lives in Amalfi, however. There was a rock slide between Positano and Amalfi when we were checking in and the villa was not stocked until after we checked in.

Susan, September

Enjoyed Most:
We enjoyed very much our stay at Le Scogliere very much. The villa was nice; it had marvellous terraces and a view you just can dream about.
Surrounding Area:
It was nice being in Positano and very interesting going to Capri, Pompeii and the other tourist places. But the best experience for me and my husband was the walking in the mountains from Positano to the town Agerola. We were walking on the brink of the mountains with an unbelievable view of the Mediterranean sea and through woods of cypresses. We did not meet a single person on the path for six hours, so I think we had a quite special experience.

Caroline, July

Overall:
I loved the new service of arriving and having groceries already there. We had a 23 hour trip from Toronto and to arrive and have food to munch on and things for breakfast was a godsend!
Enjoyed Most:
The view was spectacular, and the terrace was amazing!!! The house has a nice layout for us because the kitchen and living room were on the main floor where the entrance was, my husband and I had the floor above that with a large bedroom and bathroom and we used the small bedroom up their for our clothes, and our 19 yr old daughter and her two friends used the bedroom on floor below the main floor with their own bathroom and our two teenage sons used the bedroom on the same floor as our daughter that had two single beds. So, the point is that my husband and I had privacy and an amazing view. Also the location was great, away from the noisy area, but still close enough to everything.
Enjoyed Least:
We know that kitchens in Italy are small and that's fine we can adjust to that, but we felt that the kitchen was not that well equipped in terms of knives to chop and prepare food, large serving bowls, and there was only one cutting board that was about 4 inches by 6 inches.
Surrounding Area:
It is a great area to beach, shop, and eat. Also a great place to do excursions from. We went to Capri, Ravello, Pompeii. "Positano Limousine Service" was an excellent tour company. We used them to get to Pompeii and Ravello. You can custom design your tour and the owner Luigi Paone was very helpful getting us dinner reservations, and one of his drivers Joseph, got us last-minute lunch reservations in Ravello and a tour guide for Pompeii.
Tips or Restaurants:
Next time I would bring tea-light candles as I went hunting for them through town and they were very hard to find. I like to set the table in this instance because the terrace was huge and beautiful we ate out there several nights with them because the tall tapered candles drip, fall over and are a fire hazard. It would be good if there were binoculars available to see boats, landscape, birds in more detail. Bring washcloths for the shower as they are not provided. In terms of restaurants, we found that the expensive restaurants were no better than the more casual ones. We went to Al Palazzo and it was 500 Euros for 7 of us and the service was terrible. The restaurant was only 2/3 full, so it was not like they were full and really busy. Our best meals were on the street at Mediterraneo, Cafe Positano, Chez Black. Il Fornillo was good food but we had to wait 1 1/2 for dinner to arrive and the waitress was always yelling at other staff so not a great experience.
Check In Out:
Very easy which was great because we had such a long journey.

Bo, June

Enjoyed Most:
The view was absolutely breathtaking from the terrace and most of the bedrooms! The villa was stocked very well with food and most everything we needed except fans.
Enjoyed Least:
There were ants. No air conditioning and not enough fans to stay cool. Barking dogs kept us awake at night. Everything echoes in Positano so one barking dog can be annoying.
Surrounding Area:
The views were stunning from every turn, shopping was abundant and fun, and good restaurants were very close to the villa, some with spectacular views from outside terraces. Good wine was abundant and inexpensive and everyone was friendly.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring good walking shoes as there are a lot of steps. Buy insect repellent, ant spray or mosquito netting if in the summer, as you have to leave the windows open. We were there in June and it was hot, so wear cool light clothes.

John, June

Enjoyed Most:
Lovely views, numerous rooms, access to outside areas, character, close by shops and restaurants, own garage!
Enjoyed Least:
Difficult to make safe for very young children with all the internal and external steps and items displayed/stored at low levels. Washing machine was a bit problematic, and the shower curtains need a good scrub.
Surrounding Area:
Walking to shops, restaurants, beaches, bus to get you back up the hill if you don't want to walk, easy to come and go. Relaxed feel, friendly shopkeepers, people warm and welcoming and enjoyed our children as well!
Tips or Restaurants:
Take as little as possible. Everything is in the house or can be bought easily nearby.

Amanda, October

Overall:
It was heavenly. We felt thrown back in time, but not lacking in conveniences. The beauty of it was almost overwhelming. The children loved it too, with its spacious terraces and a "secret passageway" carved through the mountain to the garage.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was absolutely beautiful. The construction was authentic with interesting masonry, great details, etc. The rooms were spacious and airy, each having access to a balcony or terrace. There views from the large terraces were astonishing.
Enjoyed Least:
The plumbing in the master bedroom did not work, so we could not use the toilet there.
Surrounding Area:
Absolutely everything. The immediate neighborhood contains a well-stocked grocery store with everything you might need. The nearest restaurant, just down the stairs, serves great food at good prices with very friendly service. It had a real local feel.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is right in Positano, but just out of the way enough to feel "local". You could and had to walk to everything; grocery stores, restaurants, and various shops are a short walk away. The beach was a bit longer walk, which is ok since the stroll down is so scenic and interesting.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa was very well stocked and we had arranged for the housekeeper to prepare a full meal our first night. This ensured that we had plenty of leftovers and supplies on hand. You really don't need to bring anything except maybe some laundry detergent and basic staples which can be purchased at the nearby grocery store which keeps very convenient hours, even on Sunday.
Check In Out:
Antoinette was very helpful on the phone and Andreas, who met us, was wonderful.

Lynn, July

Overall:
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Enjoyed Most:
View
Enjoyed Least:
Climbing.
Surrounding Area:
Everything
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring/buy an American coffee pot - got tired of espresso

Barbro, September

Overall:
We enjoyed ourselves and felt like for a week we lived Positano-style in a traditional villa.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, of course, and the terraces - beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
The bathrooms - drainage and shower heads in showers very poor. Couldn't wait to have a decent shower.
Surrounding Area:
We were high enough to enjoy the views but not too high for it to be inconvenient. Having the grocery shop just down a few steps from us was also great.
Directions:
Thank you for easy-to-read directions.
Check In Out:
We were late to arrive and yet we felt welcomed.

Stoyan, July

Enjoyed Most:
The place exceeded all expectations.
Enjoyed Least:
We had some trouble with the stove.
Surrounding Area:
My teenagers enjoyed renting kayaks at the beach. My friend took a tour of the surrounding towns. We all enjoyed hiring a boat with driver to take us to Capri. He brought us to the Green Grotto for a swim which he assured us was better than the touristy Blue Grotto.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There was a general store kind of place about 100 steps away - very close. It was open a surprising number of hours. I think it was even open on sunday.
Directions:
We had a driver who picked us up and was very welcoming in Naples. He dropped us off by the side of the road and we needed to wait there while the property manager came. It all worked out fine and bothered the property manager more than it bothered us.
Check In Out:
There was really nothing to do, we just got the key. It was great. The property manager was very helpful when we did have questions. We just gave them a call from the phone at the Villa.

Kate, July

Enjoyed Most:
We very much liked the layout of the villa and the privacy of the two larger bedrooms. The property manager was SO very kind and helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
Noisy in the mornings.
Surrounding Area:
Easy to get to many popular spots.
Tips or Restaurants:
Very quiet town. Experiment with new Italian recipes. Fun to cook in authentic town with access to those ingredients. Bring your very best walking shoes... no compromise will do.

Lori , October

Overall:
The property and location was prettier than expected with great terraces and views of the sea.
Enjoyed Most:

The villa
Enjoyed Least:

The beach was difficult to access.

September

Overall:
I would stay there again.
Enjoyed Most:
Spacious for two couples. could accomodate three couples adequately. Well maintained indoors. Very convenient to the center of Positano which was about 1 km down the hill. The ambience of the patios was restful and scenic.
Enjoyed Least:
The street outside was a little bit noisy some nights, particularly on Friday and Saturday. The television was nonfunctional and needs repair and a satellite connection.
Surrounding Area:
It is easy to see why Positano is overrun with tourists, particularly from the ferries, as it is a very scenic town. Many quaint and excellent restaurants, although these trattoria are not those in the center of town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Other than Positano there are no towns within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't bring your computer. you won't use it. The best restaurant for the money was a family-run trattoria above the town. it is reached via a taxi from the location of the first SITA bus-stop above Positano nest to the Iglesia nuova. It's a bit of a walk up the hill from there. The next restaurant was a fish restaurant beyond the tower at the north end of town.
Directions:
It's right on the main circular one-way road that runs through Positano, which makes it handy.

John, September

Overall:
We were pleasantly surprised with the location and floor plan of the villa. The large terrace on the dining level was our morning and early evening gathering spot as the view was spectacular.
Enjoyed Most:

The large terrace with beautiful views of town and ocean.
Enjoyed Least:

Low water pressure in the bathrooms.
Surrounding Area:

Mostly residential village atmosphere close to villa but easy walking distance to restaurants, grocery store, bus stop, and church. It's about 1/2 mile (approx. 500 steps) to the beach.
Tips or Restaurants:

Saracena d'Oro - excellent food, reasonable prices and a great family staff. Also had a fabulous meal at Donna Rosa.

September

Overall:
We had a wonderful time in Positano. The location could not have been better. The veranda was a common place for sharing the adventures of the day and looking out to a beautiful setting.
Enjoyed Most:
The proximity to the town and to many good restaurants in the Il Fornillo area of Positano. Also the closeness to the bus stop was very convenient.
Enjoyed Least:
The beds, the bugs and the downstairs shower. The beds except for the two doubles were very uncomfortable. Definitely bring insect repellant. The downstairs shower had very little water pressure.
Surrounding Area:
Il Fornillo beach - especially Pupetto Bagni. The mixture of beauty, small town feel, great day trip destinations and nightlife. It was the highlight of our trip.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Pupetto Bagni - Local beach Ravello - very worth a day trip Cafe Positano - a great place to wile away the hours looking out at the view
Tips or Restaurants:
Max's was one of our best meals. The french fry pizza was awesome at Il Fornillo restaurant. Bring bug spray. Reserve enough time to just enjoy the area. It is a wonderful place to get to know.

Michele, September

Overall:
Great location, beautiful view, great deck to relax on, lots of room.
Enjoyed Most:
The deck and the overview of the Positano area.....breathtaking!
Enjoyed Least:
At night, the motorcycle noise was loud...if you leave the windows open, you'll need earplugs!
Surrounding Area:
Bus stop at the foot of the stairs, several good restaurants nearby as well as a great grocery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Day trips to Pompei, Amalfi, Capri, and Ravello -- very easy to get to by either boat or by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
