Customer Reviews

Overall:
We would recommend this place to anyone!
Enjoyed Most:
Location!.... and it lived up to it's description. It was elegant and well furnished. The itchen was adequately stocked with dishes and cooking items. (We had many meals in). We loved looking out the windows at the Duomo. And being able to walk all over the area.
Enjoyed Least:
The street noise. We did learn to shut windows at certain times.
Surrounding Area:
Being able to walk to stores, markets and places to eat. It was a very safe part of town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Central Market, walking across the bridges, walking to museums and churches we wanted to see. We were close to the bus station and made several day trips on buses....very convenient and easy.
Tips or Restaurants:
Trattoria Belle Dona, La Spada's roast chicken and potaoes. Good food at most places.

Tom, September

Overall:
This is a superb property that is everything the property description, guest comments and photos promise.
Enjoyed Most:
Location in the heart of the city centro and an unparalleled view of the Duomo.
Enjoyed Least:
The apartment is loud with the street below bustling with city buses, scooters and the occasional police car. This is characteristic of almost every Florentine street, but if you want peace and quiet, stay south of the Arno in a neighborhood like Santa Spiritu.
Surrounding Area:
It's just far enough west of the central tourist streets for a few local merchants to continue to provide groceries and other necessities in genuine Italian-style shops located behind the property. The property managers provide a good list of the local shops, their location and what they sell.
Nearby Events or Locales:

Tips or Restaurants:
Trattoria Pandemomio, south of the Arno, is worth finding. It provides genuine Tuscan foods all prepared by the owner named Mamma. It's like having dinner with an Italian family.

Paul, April

Overall:
Overall, I can't think of a better location. But something on the Arno might be better - will try that in the future!
Enjoyed Most:
Location, location, location! Everything we wanted was within easy walking distance.
Enjoyed Least:
Small kitchen. No instructions, in English, about how to operate appliances.
Surrounding Area:
I love to walk, and there were many interesting things to see in every direction.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I was interested in visiting the "Last Suppers" in Florence churches. All were within easy walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
All the small resturants in the area were good, Il Latini was tops!

John, May

Overall:
This was the most beautiful apartment with terrific views. We loved every minute of our stay. Everything for the apartment was furnished. We only had to shop for groceries.
Enjoyed Most:
The decor, views, and location.
Enjoyed Least:
What's not to like? It was perfect!
Surrounding Area:
Walking distance to everything. In a great neighborhood - very classy.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Good shopping. Train station. Bookstores.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pack light. Everything for the apartment was furnished. Shop only for groceries.

Sybil, January

Overall:
It was pleasant, comfortable, nicely furnished, and had plenty of room for the four of us (two couples). On the whole, we enjoyed our two weeks in San Gaetano very much.
Enjoyed Most:
The location.
Enjoyed Least:
We found the street noise at times annoying. The bathrooms were small by American standards. Technicians seemed unable to bring in English-language stations (BBC or CNN).
Surrounding Area:
What's not to enjoy about being in Florence?
Nearby Events or Locales:
There were many interesting and well stocked food shops close by.
Tips or Restaurants:
Two good close-by restaurants: Belle Donne and Trattoria Mariona. For future renters: bring ear plugs for peaceful nighttime sleeping; otherwise, the apartment was very well stocked.

October

Overall:

Enjoyed Most:
Excellent location, great view, friendly staff, very comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
The street is very noisy (all through the night) which forces one to close the windows and use the air-conditioning. The bathrooms & kitchen are a little "tired". The bathrooms need a thorough cleaning and the kitchen appliances need updating.
Surrounding Area:
Location, location, location -- this apartment is ideally located for a visit to Florence. I cannot say enough about the convenience of the place.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The main market (mercato central) was a wonderful and convenient place to buy groceries.
Tips or Restaurants:
Take plenty of bug-block since even with the air-conditioning you cannot seem to beat the mosquitoes.

July

Overall:
Excellent, exactly what I had hoped for.
Enjoyed Most:
The view of the Duomo and Belltower.
Enjoyed Least:
It needed three things 1) Written instructions on how to use the appliances, where to dump the trash, etc. The people in the office were all very helpful but it would have been simpler to have a written reference. 2) An alarm clock. 3) A microwave.
Surrounding Area:
The Piazza Antinori is very well located midway between the heart of the city and the train station. There is a wonderful bakery nearby and other shops for stocking the pantry.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Easter in Florence!
Tips or Restaurants:
For restaurants, what are available in the neighborhood are very well established and well known, and excellent. Bring an alarm clock if you may need to be someplace early.

May

Overall:
The property was first class as we had expected, but not as old as we thought it would be. The views were great, giving a sense of expansion to the property. The kitchen was small, but okay. It was an ideal location for everything in Firenze. Piazza Antinori was wonderful with good foot traffic and one-way auto traffic. It was easy to navigate to piazza Republica, the Duomo, etc..
Enjoyed Most:
The Duomo was in full view from the living and bedrooms.
Surrounding Area:
Grocery stores, etc were just behind us so it felt like we were in a neighborhood. The market at piazza San Lorenzo was a 5 minute walk. The locals were great (all Italians are).
Tips or Restaurants:
The Trattoria Anita near Santa Croce is a very inexpensive local place with good food. Two course lunches are 10,000 lira. The apartment has a list of restaurants and the doorman, Mauro, is a great source.

November

Overall:
It was beautiful, well equipped, and not as noisy as I had expected in the middle of busy Florence.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, location, location! The view was spectacular.
Surrounding Area:
museums, restaurants
Tips or Restaurants:
I bought and paid for museum tickets online to aviod standing in lines. Best restaurant nearby: Buco Mario. It would help to have instructions in English for using TV, dishwasher, etc.

November

Overall:
All good. Quite expensive for a 3-month rental in middle of winter considering all other surrounding apt. were empty almost all of the time we were there. Everyone in the GIDEC office was very nice and accommodating.

November

Enjoyed Most:
It was situated in the middle of the old city, wonderfully located and the view of the Duomo was spectacular.
Enjoyed Least:
It's situation also made it very noisy when windows were open.
Surrounding Area:
The city is beautiful and everything was easy walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Laura from Gidec did a nice job of introducing us to the area, and left a bound book that gave lots of local tips.

November

Overall:
Everyone should treat themselves to the comfort of a great apartment in the center of Florence for at least 2 weeks or a month in their life. It is an exalting experience to visit beauty all day as well as to live in its midst. Most pleased. Jut what I wanted and expected. It is expensive and worth it.
Enjoyed Most:
There is no better location in Florence. Wonderful building - no view is better than the Duomo and Bell tower.
Surrounding Area:
All shops easy to find (lousy hours for an American) near the apartment. I refer to those for cooking and household goods. Merchants were wonderful - went out of their way to assure me the very best quality. Prada, Escada, Gucci are practically downstairs.
