Customer Reviews

Overall:
Excellent location near the Ponte Vecchio--we walked everywhere we wanted to go.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and the views from the bedroom and the balcony.
Enjoyed Least:
Tight quarters in living room and kitchen.
Surrounding Area:
Easy access to the old town.
Check In Out:
The agent in Florence did an excellent job. She helped us find a local dentist and was there to wish us well when we were leaving.

Emerson, September

Overall:
We had a great time and a very enjoyable experience.
Enjoyed Most:
Italian style and convenience to the city. Very good local resturants.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful old Renaissance city with color, history, and ambiance.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the middle of Florence with access to many shops and restaurants.
Directions:
The taxi driver found the place easily.
Check In Out:
The local agent was very friendly; it was a pleasure.

Clifton, June

Overall:
Very pleasurable.
Enjoyed Most:
The view from the bedroom and the open terrace.
Enjoyed Least:
Difficult stairs.
Surrounding Area:
Only a block from the Ponte Vecchio on the Arno, Oltrarno side. And could avoid the crush by going east to San Niccolo.
Tips or Restaurants:
I liked the Sunday brunch at Ruffalo or some reasonable approximation just down from Porta San Niccolo.
Directions:
Took a cab.
Check In Out:
Laura was very nice.

Bill, May

Overall:
Nearly perfect! Great location on the River Arno overlooking the Uffizi Galleries and the Ponte Vecchio from the 360 degree view in the bedroom. Close to everything we wanted to see and all within walking distance. Perfection would have been us being able to speak Italian!
Enjoyed Most:
The sitting area between the living room and the deck - it was perfect for quiet, reflective breakfasts overlooking the hillside of Florence. The view from the bedroom is awesome - day or night! The apartment is perfectly located to hear all the cathedral bells ringing on Sunday morning - a cacophony of wondrous sounds!
Enjoyed Least:
The very steep and narrow stairway up to the bedroom. We decided to leave lights on at night to ensure we could see clearly if we needed to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. My partner has an artificial shoulder joint and a fall could be extremely detrimental to him.
Surrounding Area:
We could walk to everything we wanted to see while in Florence. All of our morning adventures would end up at the Piazza behind the Uffizi. A myriad of outdoor cafes serving lunch and fantastic people watching. All of our afternoon adventures would end up at the Gelato stand just east of the north end of the Ponte Vecchio - really good Gelato and the baristas were great!
Tips or Restaurants:
The Tratorria Ponte Vecchio restaurant is a must. Located just east of the north end of the bridge. They have a pear and Robiola cheese pasta appetizer that is magnificent! On the menu it's Fiocchi Ripieni al Pecorino e Pere alla Crema di Robiola e Tartufo - simply fantastic. Another great find was La Casalinga near the Pitti Palace. Neighborhood local restaurant - try their polenta lasagna - it's very good. With an appetizer each, a large carafe of red wine and our lasagna entrees and tip the bill was E 38. Another good restaurant is Ristorante di Bardi near the Ponte Vecchio. Reservations are recommended and the hostess staff is pretty snooty if you don't have a reservation - once you get beyond the hostess, the service, atmosphere and the food are well worth the price.
Directions:
We hailed a taxi at the train station and showed him our paperwork with the apartment's address on it. He seemed to drive straight there without issue.
Check In Out:
Note to international cell phone users. We had great difficulty using our phone - nothing would connect for us. After many calls back to Customer Care at Sprint, we found someone who could tell us what was going on. There is a lot of cell phone fraud in Italy. There are 3 major networks and they will drop their coverage without notice if too much fraud is detected. What you have to do is manually select one of the other networks. Be sure you know how to do this before leaving the US.

Bob, October

Overall:
We had a great time and would highly recommend it to others.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, the view and the terrace.
Enjoyed Least:
Minor irritants were the smell from the sewer vent and the sound of the building generator.
Surrounding Area:
Being slightly off the beaten tourist path but still close to everything.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen was better stocked than we expected. We made frequent trips to the Magi grocer nearby.

Karyn, May

Enjoyed Most:
The views, both from the bedroom and from the terrace, were magnificent. We loved to relax on the terrace with a glass of wine enjoying the breathtaking views.
Enjoyed Least:
Although the apartment is charming, it needs a bit of a re-touching, a fresh coat of paint here and there. Also, a patio umbrella would come in handy to create some shade on the terrace.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the location across Arno - a bit away from the crowds and yet within a walking distance to everything. There are plenty of "must see" places there - Piazza Santo Spirito, Brancacci Chapel with its amazing frescoes, San Miniato and an unbelievable panoramic view of Florence from the church steps, to name just a fiew.
Tips or Restaurants:
The apartment was well equipped with everything we needed and I cannot think of anything other than a patio umbrella. In terms of restaurants, we want to recommend Osteria Tripperia "Il Magazzino", Via Dei Sapiti, 18R. It is on the same piazza with the popular trattoria Il Quatro Leoni". We dined twice at "Il Magazzino" and both times the food and the wine were excellent. Their specialties are trippa and lampredotto but pasta was also delicious, maybe the best we had in Italy.

Ekaterine Katherine, September

Overall:
The property was excellent. It really contributed to a fantastic trip. I would not, however, recommend it for travelers with babies or small children for the reasons mentioned below.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was excellent. It was very close to most everything. At the same time, as it is on the Palazzo Pitti side of the Arno, it is far enough away from the crowds so that the building and the area around it are actually quite peaceful and quiet. The views were incomparable.
Enjoyed Least:
We have a two year old son. After one enters, there is a steep stairway leading to the apartment itself, and then another steep one to the bed room. We found it difficult after a point bringing our son up the steps, as well as his stroller, etc. For this reason, I would not recommend the apartment for those with small children or for the elderly.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you have a small child and are staying at this apartment, definitely invest in a travel gate as the stairs to the bedroom upstairs are potentially dangerous for small children. For good restaurants, avoid anything near the Duomo or the Palace Vecchio, as they sacrifice quality for location. There are a number of fine restaurants excellent, actually! within a short distance on the Palazzo Pitti side of the Arno. I would recommend sticking to that area for meals.

Daniel, August

Overall:
Great place. We would stay there again.
Enjoyed Most:
The balcony, the view from the bedroom, the high-speed Internet connection, the washing machine. Others complained about the water pressure, but we rarely had a problem with the pressure and if we did it lasted only a few minutes.
Enjoyed Least:
I think you could clear out a few things in the living room and elsewhere--artificial plants--to give the place a roomier look. I ended up doing this myself and putting them in the closet and then putting them back afterwards. We only needed the air conditioning at the end, but it really didn't work that well. But basically, this is a great property.
Surrounding Area:
The location is perfect--close, but away from the maddening crowds.
Tips or Restaurants:
The deli-takeaway place at 25 Jacobo--GREAT. The deli-takeaway place in the other direction. Great.

Lydia, July

Overall:
We enjoyed every minute of our honeymoon stay at Palazzo Torrigiani!
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the view from the bedroom. We really were in the heart of Florence and the view was spectacular. From all sides of the bedroom, you can see Florence for miles. At night, it was amazing, as well.
Enjoyed Least:
We loved everything about the apartment, except the final bill. We did not fully understand at check in that we would be paying utilities, so we left the air conditioning on almost the entire time. In the end, we were charged over 400 Euros and, at the end of a long, and expensive honeymoon, we did not enjoy paying over 500 US Dollars because we did not turn the AC off when the left the apartment. Also, the shower pressure is not good in the morning, but if you shower later in the day, it is fine.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the fact that everything in Florence was in walking distance to our apartment. The Ponte Vecchio was a 2-minute walk from our place and was a wonderful central location in the city. Everything was within walking distance, including some of our favorites Santo Spirito and Piazzale Michelangelo.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We took a day trip to San Gimignano, but we rented a car. It was a 1 hour drive and it was worth the trip, though I wouldn't stay for two nights like we did. It is a small town with gorgeous views, but worth a one-night stay only. But, still worth the trip.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved walking to Santo Spirito, which is about a 10 minute walk from the apartment. There, you will find the best gelato in the city at Cafe Ricci and our favorite paninis at Gusto Panini right in front of the church. The paninis are 3 Euros each with a drink and they are fabulous. Also, since this apartment has a fridge and a kitchen, we recommend going to the Mercato Centrale. While it is a bit of a walk from the apartment between the Duomo and the Train Station, it is worth it to get fresh food from the open air market that sells breads, cheeses, wines, fruit, vegetables, and meat. The prices are good and the food is unreal, especially for us Americans who rarely get organic, homegrown food at decent prices.

Joseph, July

Enjoyed Most:
The view from the bedroom
Enjoyed Least:
Small kitchen.
Surrounding Area:
Great location right on the Arno River.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Everything is within walking distance!
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen is tiny! I had to buy dish soap, sponges, a broom, paper towels.

Ellen, June

Overall:
The apartment was very well-equipped, although the kitchen was very small. The only serious problem was the water pressure.
Enjoyed Most:
The location on the Arno, the use of the outdoor balcony, and the "tower" bedroom.
Enjoyed Least:
The water pressure was irregular and quite low at many times of day.
Surrounding Area:
Location was terrific - easy to walk to center of the city, but no huge crowds in the immediate neighborhood. Living next to the Arno was wonderful, day and night.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring rubber gloves for washing dishes.

Eleanor, May

Overall:
The apartment was perfect for our 4 week stay. We were very determined to have outside space so we could enjoy the spring. The deck was perfect and we used it extensively. If staying during a season where you will not be spending time outside another apartment would probably make sense. The bedroom views were unbelievable. We felt very fortunate to to stay there.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and setting were exactly what we were looking for.
Enjoyed Least:
The unpredictability of the availability of water. Sometimes the water would go off completely. Not a huge problem but an inconvenience.
Surrounding Area:
Florence is wonderful and the location of the apartment gives great access to all of Florence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We would do overnight trips to such places as Bologna, Venice, and Montalcino.
Tips or Restaurants:
Great restaurants all around...Bordino, Carmine, Casalingua, Napolenoe, Centopoveri. The apartment was well stocked and we were not missing anything.

Paul, May

Enjoyed Most:
The view was beautiful and the location was very convenient. I also loved the spaciousness.
Enjoyed Least:
I think the 130 Euro final cleaning fee is way too high.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pack a soft suitcase for all the goodies you buy in Florence...suitcases there are very expensive.

Fiona , November

Enjoyed Most:
The views from the bedroom in the tower, and the terrazzino, which reassure you that, yes indeed, you are in Florence.
Enjoyed Least:
There is nothing I disliked about the apartment. There was sometimes a problem in the morning with water pressure ... there was none. Think of it as an opportunity to learn pazienza.
Surrounding Area:
The apartment is in the Oltrarno, across the river from the busy tourist areas, but still within easy walking distance of almost everywhere.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You are within walking distance of the train and bus stations, from where you can take day trips to any number of interesting towns - Lucca, Siena, Arezzo, Orvieto, and San Gimignano, to name a few.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pack light and buy the rest of what you need---food, toiletries, reading material, a nice coat---in Florence. Explore areas away from the tourist zones and try out little trattorias in the back streets of Oltrarno, e.g., Pandemonia, Le Barrique, or Quatro Leone in the Santo Spirito area.
Directions:
It's a 10-15 minute walk from the train station to the apartment---easy if you have no luggage---but best to take a taxi when you first arrive. Just give the taxi driver the address.
Check In Out:
Very easy. Maria, Laura, and Mauro are all very nice and helpful.

Robert, October

Overall:
We will never forget our experience! It was the most wonderful few weeks of our entire marriage, I think.
Enjoyed Most:
The fabulous balcony with views of San Miniato and the Arno...and of course, the unforgettable 360 view of the Arno, Uffizi and all of Florence from the bedroom.
Enjoyed Least:
Everything was perfect, but if pressed, the shower went dead for a few minutes a few times in the morning. Italian plumbing is different than ours.
Surrounding Area:
Florence--and day trips to Siena and Lucca.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring insect repellant. One favorite restaurant nearby was I Quattro Leoni. Don't forget to walk up the hill to the Belevdere. Do make reservations at restaurants, and book ahead in U.S. for the Uffizi!

Barbara, September

Enjoyed Most:
The view and location in Firenze, and the doorman!
Enjoyed Least:
No water pressure some mornings and if you opened certain windows there was a sewer smell from the vent stacks of the other apartments.
Surrounding Area:
Being next to the river and the neighborhood feel of the Oltrarno area. Also the proximity to the Pitti Palace. We went ther 5 times.
Tips or Restaurants:
The little restaurant by San Niccolo.

John, May

Overall:
Everything was absolutely perfect. If I went back to Florence alone or with one other person, this would be my pick of places to stay.
Enjoyed Most:
Location---just a step away from everything---and the rooftop terrace. Our group rented this apartment and one other. We gathered on the terrace for drinks and sunset watching in the evening.
Enjoyed Least:
The streets are very noisy, BUT the windows do a very good job of shutting that noise out.
Surrounding Area:
Absolutely everything.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We spent a day walking through a parkland quarry outside of Fiesole, a 15-minute bus ride up the hill from Florence, lunched at a hillside villa, and walked down to Florence through beautiful spring fields. Fiesole has a 3000-seat Roman amphitheatre and small market.
Tips or Restaurants:
We didn't find anything lacking. We did take two tours - one was a short tour to get oriented to the architecture and history of Florence. The second was a walking tour which began in a hillside town outside of Florence. Both were excellent. Walking Tours of Florence--just across the Ponte Vecchio.
Check In Out:
Efficient, courteous and informative.

Patricia, April

Enjoyed Most:
The iew, especially from the bedroom!
Enjoyed Least:
There really wasn't anything we didn't like.
Surrounding Area:
Great location, the proximity to all the museums, good restaurants and the Ponte Vecchio.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Fiesole. We took the bus up and walked back but it was a long 5 miles!
Tips or Restaurants:
We absolutely loved the restarant , Open Bar, just a half block down on the river front. Great food, 3 different dining areas, really friendly owners and staff. We probably spent 3 days a week there, for food or just drinks in the bar. Our apartment was complete with everything you could dream of, just bring money!

Julie, April

Overall:
I would love to do it again.
Enjoyed Most:
I liked the location. Close to everything, including all the historical sites. Easy walking distance. The 360-degree view from the bedroom was wonderful. I could see the Arno, Uffizi, Duomo and many more. I felt safe being a single woman. The manger was helpful and the building is in a great location. I felt very comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
I really can't think of anything I didn't like about the property.
Surrounding Area:
Everything was near. I used the grocery stores, butcher, beauty shop, massage spa's and manicurist. I was welcomed by all. Became friends with some during my month stay. The food was great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Oltrano. Yes, right at my door.
Tips or Restaurants:
I did take a flashlight but never had to use it. Anything you need is within 5 minutes. The apartment has a list of good places to shop and resturants. I would not recommend the Open Bar Restaurant even though it is mentioned in some guide books. It is too expensive and service is awful. I ate there on my birthday and was treated poorly. May have been that I was a woman alone! The meal I ordered was expensive and it was not a good evening. I never found this at any other resturant.
Check In Out:
All went well

Norma, November

Enjoyed Most:
Location --- VERY Quiet
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of adequate seating in living room; minimal kitchen; no radio or CD player. Lack of heat until November, and it was cold. Loss of water pressure several mornings between 7:00AM and 9:00AM. Be prepared to climb stairs and even be ready to climb to retrieve the elevator when others fail to close the doors after usage.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful views. Found necessities within walking distance -- all city areas were within walking distance and easy bus service to the railroad station.
Tips or Restaurants:
Numerous very good restaurants nearby --- do not plan to eat many meals in the unit as the kitchen is minimal. Keep a stock of bottled water on hand for drinking as well as use when water flow stops. Be prepared to be adventurous!
Directions:
Its about a 15 to 20 Euro ride from the Railroad Station, and about 20 Euros to the Airport.

Aaron, October

Enjoyed Most:
The terrace was a great place to relax. The bedroom with its panoramic view was excellent.
Enjoyed Least:
There isn't anything I can think of.
Surrounding Area:
Being right on the edge of everything was great. Close enough to get to everything in a easy walk, but a quiet oasis when I just wanted to relax.
Tips or Restaurants:
I was surprised at how well-appointed the apartment was. There were plenty of extra pillows, blankets, sheets, etc. as well as cooking utensils.
Check In Out:
Everyone involved made check-in and check-out easy, even though I had to make some last minute changes to my itinerary.

Peter, October

Enjoyed Most:
The terrace in the evening was very peaceful for sipping wine. The breakfast nook was nice in the morning. The bedroom with 360 degree views was amazing. Spent lots of time gazing out on Firenze.
Enjoyed Least:
Wind blowing grit from the roof onto the terrace and our food a few times. The cable card was quirky at times.
Tips or Restaurants:
It would be worth it to carry toiletries and sunscreen with you, as they are not cheap in Florence even at the Standa or Centro. Eat dinner at Osteria Vasari on the street behind the apartment building as many times as you can! on via dei Bardi

Tricia, August

Enjoyed Most:
The bedroom! It was spacious with a large and comfortable bed, but it also had a beautiful ceiling and windows on all sides with spectacular views of every part of Firenze. The terrace gave us great pleasure, and everything worked! The entire month we never had any problems with anything. The place was beautifully painted and clean, and well-appointed with all the accessories we needed. The location is perfect, as we learned five years ago when we stayed in another apartment in the same building.
Enjoyed Least:
The low ceiling between the kitchen and the living room gave me a few nasty bumps before we learned to tape a cloth of contrasting color to it to catch my attention. It's not your fault that I'm 2 meters tall, but that was a bit of a problem. Both flights of stairs in the apartment were sometimes tricky and sometimes slippery. I found the living room confining, probably because of my size, but my wife did not.
Surrounding Area:
It would be absurd to try to say what we enjoyed about Firenze in a finite amount of time. The art, the people, the atmosphere of the place, the music of the buskers and Maggio Musicale. It is a place we could love for a century without tiring of it.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town to Firenze is, I suppose, Fiesole, which we visited about a dozen times to explore the Etruscan and Roman ruins, to enjoy tea at the cafe overlooking Firenze and the Arno valley, and to climb the many streets and walkways.
Tips or Restaurants:
We cooked at home most of the time. Between the nearby shops and Standa we obtained everything we needed. What few restaurants we visited were friendly enough and the food was always excellent, but when you have a home like Figaro why spend the extra money?
Directions:
We hired a taxi at the airport, told the driver we had been there before, and gave him the address.
Check In Out:
Laura was charming and thorough.

Jim, June

Overall:
This was an excellent apartment I was heartbroken to find it was rented when I wanted to go back. The management company is exceptionally helpful and I enjoyed staying there.
Enjoyed Most:
The location, the patio, the view, and the bedroom!
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was very small, though well-equipped this would not be a good place to stay if you wanted to cook for yourself regularly.
Surrounding Area:
The Oltrarno is lovely, and a bit removed from the tourist hotspots.
Nearby Events or Locales:
It's easy to walk all over Florence from this apartment.
Directions:
It's very straightforward. I also found it helpful, for myself, to plot it online so I knew exactly where I was going.
Check In Out:
The management company was terrific and very helpful with everything.

Jacqueline Marie, July

Overall:
The rental was very clean and comfortable. The washing machine worked really well. The terrace allowed our clothes to dry quickly in the southern sun. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Our experience renting through Rentvillas.com was terrific. Figaro is located in a very strategic location for shopping, museums and people watching in general. We enjoyed both sunrise and sunsets through the upstairs windows. The Internet Train, two blocks down on the right, came in handy. It made each day even more enjoyable to share it with friends back home.
Enjoyed Most:
The building was beautiful. Although, some may frown at the winding stairs that meet you at the top of the lift, we felt a sense of arrival and an adventure ending each day we returned. The terrace was fabulous. A view unparalleled would describe the daytime view. The nightscape that included San Miniato and Santa Croce bathed in lights wasn't too bad either.
Enjoyed Least:
Two things we would have changed: 1. Shower door instead of a curtain 2. Something to bake or toast in. (There are toaster oven - microwaves. The upstairs gets a little noisy if you want to retire to bed early on a disco night (this is easily solved by pulling out the beds downstairs).
Tips or Restaurants:
Take time to water the flowers on the terrace, it gives you the feeling that this is home (if only for a short time). Try the Osteria literally around the corner (you can see it from the terrace, don't lean too far). On the days when you just can't take in another museum, take a night off, buy the big gelato container to-go from the shop at the end of the Ponte Vecchio, stop at the little market for nutella and bananas, go back to watch a little TV and eat your banana sundae. When shopping for souvenirs look for figaro. We found a tapestry, a puzzle and postcards, all with our little birdhouse in prominent view.

Rebecca, May

Overall:
Of course, the views from the apartment were incredible! I really enjoyed having the terrace as well. However, the decor (and the apartment set-up, namely the kitchen)were just mediocre in my opinion.
Enjoyed Most:
The view! Enjoyed wine on the terrace during the nights and sunbathed during days. It was lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen; the throw rugs needed to be replaced. The decor could have been nicer.
Surrounding Area:
Most sights, stores, and restaurants are a 5-10 minute walk from the apartment. There isn't much in the immediate areas surrounding the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Loved the walk up to Piazza Michelangelo.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't close the door behind you when you go out on the terrace- its self-locking! I found out the hard way.

November

Overall:
My immediate reaction was "Bella"! All was as expected except for bedroom which was so much more dramatic. It had a chapel-like feeling with the 15-16 ft. ceilings and gothic shaped windows. A good value. Terrace another big plus. Nice glass doors from dining room. Elevator goes to 6th floor American. Well equipped with one exception. I planted herbs in the pots on the terrace and they thrived beautifully. In late March and early April it rained steadily for 3 weeks. It would be so helpful to have someone there when you arrive that has some understanding of English. Company very helpful when contacted and very pleasant.
Enjoyed Most:
A spectacular North view of Ponte Vecchio, the Arno, Uffizi, Duomo, etc. Every day that view was incredible. East view totally different but no less special.
Enjoyed Least:
A better kitchen would make it absolutely perfect. There are only 2 electric burners and a sink.
Surrounding Area:
Surrounding area had much to recommend it. Within 15-20 min. walking distance of the various Institutes. Good access to buses. Wonderful food shops on Via San Jacopo and Via dei Neri. People very friendly.
Tips or Restaurants:
Lots of restaurants in the area.

November

Overall:
The apartment was better than we expected. The most romantic bedroom in Florence, I'm sure! We even had some Florentines confirm this for us. Not luxurious, but just right. When I saw the last line of your listing" perfect for active, young renters," I thought with a bit of disappointment, "oh, this is going to be a somewhat grungy student habitat." But I realize now this was simply a reference to the winding staircases. As for value, it surely beats the hotels in the same area.
Enjoyed Most:
The property had superb views and was very well equipped.
