Enjoyed Least:
Kitchen without stove.
Surrounding Area:
The vineyards, olive groves and views were beautiful. Very peaceful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana; yes--walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
You will have to purchase basics for cooking.

Directions were good.

Check in and check out work well as is.

Sadia, October

Overall:
Overall we loved our stay at Casa Berto. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The location - in the hills of Chianti - is gorgeous. The property's history is also very intriguing. I wish I had read the book before Wednesday and could have asked if there was a tour of the property available.
Enjoyed Least:
The description of the kitchen in Casa Berto leads one to assume it is a fully functioning kitchen. However, there is no oven. This put a damper on our ability to make meals after we completed our daily adventures. There is only so much you can cook on a stove top.
Surrounding Area:
As stated, the Chianti area is absolutely gorgeous. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for the traditional Tuscany landscape. We weren't that far from Florence or Siena and were able to go to both cities, explore to our hearts content and return back to the property the same day.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I believe the nearest small town was Bacciano. A number of our party walked to this town for groceries. There was also a winery in the opposite direction that some of our party went to and picked up excellent Chiantis.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely bring spices (salt, pepper, oregano, etc.). Also, the stores close between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturdays. If you do nothing else, plan on stopping at the grocery store before they close if you are arriving to the property on a Saturday.
Directions:
To be fair, we had no problems locating the property using our phone GPS. Once the drivers found the property, they had no problems locating it again. However, there are about three to four different ways to access the property depending on where you are coming from.
Check In Out:
We arrived a couple of hours earlier than the check-in time and I thought we would have to wait. However, the staff was very welcoming and didn't blink an eye upon our arrival. We were checked in, escorted to the apartment and everything was explained in our native tongue. The check-out process was just as easy and accommodating.

Overall:
Just peaceful and gorgeous. Everything I wanted it to be.
Enjoyed Most:
The bells ringing. The view. The quaint villa. The huge castle. The dinner. Just too much to put into one favorite thing.
Enjoyed Least:
There was a huge fireplace, but nothing to light it. However, Giuseppe was kind of enough to get it going.
Surrounding Area:
The Grotto.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring matches for the fireplace. Bring towels.
Directions:
Google Earth helped us out quite a bit.
Check In Out:
No. Everything was great!

Edyn, May

Overall:
I love the peace and quite and loved walking around the castle grounds.
Enjoyed Most:
We had our own patio outside the kitchen to hang out and talk to our friends and share glasses of wine and cheese and salami. Loved the grotto.
Surrounding Area:
Everything.
Nearby Events or Locales:
About a 7 minute walk.

Cari, May

Overall:
Wonderful. A magnificent castle with out-buildings in beautiful countryside. We rented 5 units - all in the out-buildings. This was the farmhouse near the castle. I entered the same comments for all 5 units.
Enjoyed Most:
The old castle is from a movie set. Beautiful. The out-buildings are tastefully blended in.
Enjoyed Least:
Kitchens were a little primitive, but quite adequate. The in-house restaurant seemed expensive.
Surrounding Area:
The views and the clean air.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was about a 15-minute easy walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Eating out or eating in cooking are both good options.
Directions:
There are 2 entrances to the estate. One is easier than the other. Look around.
Check In Out:
Keyholder is in the out-buildings after hours.

Overall:
We had a great time! We rented several units in the castle and this house to accommodate our family group of about 20. It was just perfect. It was exactly what we wanted and expected.
Enjoyed Most:
It was awesome beautiful. Location was great.
Enjoyed Least:
For the older people in our group, the walk into town was too far and too steep to be comfortable.

Lyssa, August

Overall:
The property was beautiful both the overall grounds and the unit itself.
Enjoyed Most:

The location, the views and the entire complex.
Enjoyed Least:

No screens on the windows.
Events or Locales:

All of the places we visited were great. Greve in Chianti, Radda in Chianti, San Gimignano were fairly close with beautiful drives to get there. Siena and Florence were also fairly close by highway access.
Tips or Restaurants:

If you only have a week, you should focus on just one or at most two areas to explore in Tuscany rather than trying to cram in a lot of places. One restaurant stands out. It was extremely hard to find but well worth the effort. It is called La Cantinetta di Rignana. It is outside of Panzano in Chianti on the road (dirt road) to Badia. The views were amazing and the food excellent. The phone# is 055 852 601.
