Questions and Answers From Our Clients

(Click the question to view the answer)
Q: Can you describe the outdoor dining area? I'm wondering if it is a terrace or a pergola, and if it is adjacent to the house or further away. Also, is there a barbeque?

A: I seem to recall there is a stone patio in the backyard. Actually we hired a personal chef who prepared a wonderful meal which we enjoyed outside with amazing views. I don't recall whether there was an outside barbecue but I believe there was one inside. ENJOY!!!

A: We were there in mid-April and the only furniture outdoors was a table and some chairs in the grass right outside the house. (Overlooking the house's olive grove and the fabulous view of Tuscan hills with Montalcino visible in the distance!) We didn't see a barbecue but there may be one in the pool house--I know there is more lawn furniture in there. If you enjoy cooking, the kitchen is very well equipped.

Q: Is the pool fenced?

A: Happy to assist. The pool was not fenced. However, it is a short walk (30 yards?) from the house, about 20 steps up a small hill. We had 2 small children on our visit and took no additional precautions out of the ordinary "always keep an eye on and know where they are". We did have with us a battery operated door alarm that we turned on at night when the kids went to bed as they had a tendency to get up before the adults. Also for drinking purposes I recommend bottled water especially for the kids. There was a filtered water tap and was used for cooking and adults drinking water. Regular tap water for washing and bathing was just fine. We really enjoyed the property and the town is just awesome -- we became friends with most of the small shop keepers.

Customer Reviews

Enjoyed Most:
The view of Montalcino fortress, hill, valley, hot air balloons drifting and the swimming pool. The netting over the beds is an asset and the owners are very fortunate. Bless that land.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The huge hornets that were attracted to the lights.
Surrounding Area:
All the fabulous wineries.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The Medieval village of Buonconvento was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Poggio had everything you need, wonderful music selection and great sounds. The restaurant in Buonconvento, Mario's, was superb as well as Penzia Osteria
Check In Out:
Wonderful housekeeping service

Enjoyed Most:
The house is beautiful and nicely furnished in a rustic Tuscan style. The views from the house are breathtaking in every direction. There is a really nice outdoor dining area with wonderful views -- it is particularly nice at sunset. The pool sits on a hill above the house and also has amazing views. We loved the rustic furnishings, but the only thing we would change would be to add some rugs in the bedrooms, to add a little warmth to the cold terracotta floors!
Unpleasant Surprises:
The property was still being cleaned when we arrived, even though we arrived more than an hour after check-in time, and it could have been cleaned more thoroughly. The pump on the pool was broken when we arrived and therefore the pool was not usable until our last day at the property. One other sort of unpleasant surprise the area was buzzed by low-flying fighter jets 3 times while we were staying there...not sure if this is a regular occurrence or just strange luck on our part.
Surrounding Area:
We found Buonconvento to be a great location for taking day trips to Siena, Montepulciano, Montalcino, San Gimignano, Chianti, etc. We enjoyed the excellent local Brunello de Montalcino wines. We took many beautiful scenic drives along the less travelled roads in the region.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Buonconvento is just a few minutes away by car -- not really walking distance due to the steep hills. It has a pretty main street and some nice shops. It is very convenient for shopping at the local supermarket.
Tips or Restaurants:
Our children really enjoyed walking to a horse farm that is up the road from the house just about 10 minutes away.

Enjoyed Most:
The property was exactly as we had hoped...rustic yet full of modern amenities, such as kitchen appliances, large extra refrigerator, etc. The pool was immaculate and a wonderful place to relax in the afternoons. The location, in the Tuscan hills, was perfect...far enough away from the towns to feel a sense of solitude but close enough to go to dinner or sightseeing, etc.
Unpleasant Surprises:
You could hear any noise throughout the entire house.
Surrounding Area:
Loved having tennis courts nearby. Town of Buonconvento was convenient for grocery shopping and dining.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Buonconvento, but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Da Mario's was excellent....great wine list. The leather store across from Da Mario's was awesome - great quality at good prices.
