AboutTheExperience
Observe a working Italian farm firsthand from this farmhouse accommodation in Tuscany. On a large estate that produces wine, olive oil, visanto, and grappa, this Tuscany vacation rental is a real experience in agritourism. You can explore the farm or, alternately, spend your farm holiday in Tuscany taking day trips to the many great locations nearby: Volterra, Siena, San Gimignano, Florence, and more.
LocationDescription
Located on one of the larger working farms in this region, this property comes under the Italian category of “agritourismo.” It is situated in a beautiful rural position, but its place between Siena and Florence also makes this a great jumping-off point for day trips throughout Tuscany. The nearest village is Staggia, a beautiful little walled town with a castle overgrown with greenery. Here you'll also find the basics, from food to a post office and a café. Nearby Siena is a treasure trove of medieval architecture and authentic Tuscan culture-- including the famed annual bareback horserace! Other great locales in the region include San Gimignano, Volterra, and Florence.

ExteriorDescription
(35 Hectares) This apartment is located on a working farm that produces wine, olive oil, Vinsanto, and grappa, as well as various grain crops. There are also uncultivated areas which, in the spring, are covered with poppies. Picturesque paths through these areas lead to adjacent farms. The original 19th century farmhouse, in which this apartment is located, has been carefully restructured and transformed into six modernized apartments, each with its own entrance. The house is located on a hilltop, affording a panoramic view over the hills of the Chianti district. Surrounding the house is a communal garden and shared swimming pool (14m x 7m). There is also a cement tennis court in the center of the farmstead (racquets are available). A large barbecue and covered dining table are the center of the communal area, along with ping-pong, children's games, a play house, a slide, and a swing. Small individual tables and barbecues are also provided for the convenience of individual families. A selection of mountain bikes is available for use. A large parking area is located in front of the house, and there are shared laundry facilities.
At the completion of the harvest season, a celebration is held, during which all guests are invited to sample the many flavors and products of the land. In the cantina (cellar), run by the head of the family, there is a shop where guests may purchase bottles of wine for their own use. The owner's family occupies a separate unit in the farmhouse building. The family cares for the garden and provides homemade baked pastries as part of the welcome extended to new guests, or in celebration of special events.

Customer Reviews
Overall:
We will recommend this property to our friends.
Enjoyed Most:
The peaceful, beautiful setting. The proximity of other Tuscan towns. The wine room - just mark what you get on a piece of paper and pay at check-out. The room was nicely decorated and had a warm, cozy feeling.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Visiting the surrounding hill towns, not only the big towns, but the smaller, less known places.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring clothes that dry easily if you intend to wash, since line drying takes awhile. We enjoyed the trattoria Claudia recommended. Try the wild boar pasta- its fantastic and NOT gamey tasting.

Enjoyed Most:
This property offered everything necessary for a relaxing vacation. The property owners were so helpful and gracious, the cooking class fun and tasty. We would definitely return to this property. It is also centrally located for fun day trips. The property is very family friendly and they make the most wonderful olive oil and wine for purchase. What a gem!
Unpleasant Surprises:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Wonderful little hill top towns within 20 minutes - Volterra, San Gimignano and Siena to name a few.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. Yes you can walk there but the road is dangerous.
Tips or Restaurants:
Any groceries you may need, the basics are there. We liked every restaurant we went to.
