LocationDescription
This wonderful villa rental in Spain is located in a quiet, hillside community of villas. Within the community there is a large shared pool, children's pool, playground, tennis court, and table tennis. These villas are characterized by the wonderful views of the sea and the village of Salobrena, where there is a Moorish castle and a lovely old-town area that is great to explore on foot. The town has various grocery stores, pharmacy, restaurants, cafes, and a post office. Motril, the closest large city, has a large supermarket, hospital, and a golf course. It takes only 40 minutes to reach the wonderful university town of Granada and the Alhambra. There is also the colorful Albaycin, the old Moorish part of town, located above the city, where the gypsies now live, and where you can go to cave dwellings to enjoy an impromptu flamenco performance. The Albaysin still has its original narrow cobblestone streets and large “carmens”, traditional homes with patios and wonderful views toward the Alhambra. It is even possible to enjoy a meal in one of the “carmens”. The area is best explored on foot. There is a little mini-van that runs constantly from the Alhambra or the center of Granada up to the Albaycin. Another destination is Almunecar, which is famous for its Roman ruins, the fresh fish market, the Friday market, and the variety of beaches. There is a nice long beach promenade that is wonderful for walks or bike rides. Nerja is another lovely coastal town, which is famous for its caves. There is an annual music festival that is held there in mid-July. The center of Malaga, with its Picasso museum, is only 90km away. While the Granada airport is the closest to the villa, there are more frequent and affordable flights to Malaga. For arrivals by train, there is a train station in Granada.

Overall:
With a view of the mediterranean and surrounding area, the experience was excellent!!
Enjoyed Most:
The location which provided the view. The property was ample size and adequate for four people. The sun room was ideal for enjoying the view, morning, noon or night.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The master bedroom needs updating bed, bedding, linens, etc. The washing machine did not work properly - the soap was not dispensing well. Editor's Note: The washing machine has been fixed. The bed linens will be replaced in the master bedroom.
Surrounding Area:
The view and convenience to the coastal towns was excellent. The villa owner provided an abundance of good area maps and reading material which we enjoyed in the sun room.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Salobrena is not within walking distance; a car is needed.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoy the view as much as you can!!
Directions:
Directions were excellent. We drove from Malaga to the hotel in Salobrena where we picked up the keys.

Overall:
It could very well become our home away from home. Well appointed, views out of this world, the weather is absolutely divine. Forget going to spas and spending a fortune, Las Posas in Salobrena and the Costa Tropical are the best kept secret for Rest and Relaxation and good times. We will be going back, and that's a promise!
Enjoyed Most:
The view is out of this world. We loved the architecture and the layout of the property. It was a very comfortable home, everything was really functional. The owner had great reading material, a couple of big folders full of advice and suggestions to make their guests feel totally at home from day one, as well as a great number of articles that cover the area and all of Spain. The place was well taken care of and well stocked with what we needed when we arrived.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Nothing. We were alerted that mosquitoes were a big problem; however, we did not think so. We kept the small fan in our bedroom going at night and had no problem whatsoever.
Surrounding Area:
We put over 3500 km on our car. We went all over the immediate surroundings as well as further away. We visited Motril, Almunecar, Nerja, La Herradura, Granada, Toledo, Cordoba, Seville, Malaga, Marbella, Gibraltar and of course Madrid. We had fun on the beaches of Salobrena, Motril, Almunecar and our favorite was the balcony over Europe Beach right in Nerja.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Motril, La Herradura and Almunecar were close by.
Tips or Restaurants:
El Pinon restaurant right on Salobrena beach, on the side of a cliff, was awesome and the waiters/help were superb. We highly recommend it.
When renting a car if you plan to go tour get the smallest car you can rent; we had a Mercedes SUV A model and it was perfect to carry all our luggage and get us in those hard to get to places. A stick shift and diesel are helpful to maneuver the narrow and steep areas in and around Salobrena. Driving up to the old castle in the middle of town was a trip on its own. would highly recommend one park down and make the steep hill on foot. We found out that a lot of the old city parts in any of the larger towns had extremely narrow streets that are quite hard to maneuver if you are not comfortable driving a stick shift.
