- Location Description
This villa is located 10 km/6.2 mi from Gordes on the outskirts of Roussillon, considered one of the must-sees of the Luberon. This village has been built using stones from the red cliffs nearby-- one of the biggest deposits of ochre in the world. As a result, houses in the town cover the color spectrum from yellows to reds and browns and even purple tints. You can wander around narrow streets, visit local art galleries and studios, or eat at one of the fine restaurants. Nearby Gordes, a hilltop village that was a stronghold of resistance during WWII, is today one of the most popular villages in Provence. It has a wonderful castle, arcaded streets, museums, and musical concerts. Of course there are also all the necessary shops, as well as some delicious restaurants! South of the village you can visit the Village des Bories, a curious collection of Neolithic stone huts. Don't miss the Abbey of Senanque, a 12th century monastery where monks still live. Market day in Gordes is Tuesday morning. Venturing out from Gordes, you will find yourself surrounded by picturesque villages, stunning countryside, and finally the central hub of Avignon. The entire region is one of the most well-preserved areas in France, and Avignon is easy to reach by train. Other notable villages include Cabrieres d'Avignon, featured in A Year in Provence; Cote d'Rhone with its amazing wine; and Fontaine de Vaucluse, where you can see cold springs bubbling up out of the ground. Try the olives, truffles, lamb, and creme brulee, all specialties of the area. This is the true Provence experience, one of the most authentic areas in France.

Overall:
The Villa is very nice and well situated for the central Provence area.
Enjoyed Most:
The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen fairly well stocked. The owners were great to deal with. Very helpful with advice on places to go and restaurants to try. The Villa is also very private and in a good location from town. We walked to town twice and it took about 15 minutes.
Enjoyed Least:
You absolutely need a GSP to get around the area because of all the small towns and many tight narrow roads. With respect to the Villa itself, the beds were great but the furniture was dated and well used. The BBQ is a Charcoal BBQ which takes some getting used to after using gas in our BBQ for the past number of years.

Overall:
Very good except the pool was very cold!
Enjoyed Most:
The quietness and proximity to Rousillon - only 1 km away.
Enjoyed Least:
The pool was cold!
Surrounding Area:
Peaceful and tranquil. Fairly central to other small towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rousillon was 1-1.5 km away - very walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring your own toilet paper and hand soap.
Bring your own sponge to wash your dishes.
Excellent restaurant in Bonnieux, L'Arome.
Bonnieux was a beautiful town.
Market day in Rousillon was Friday.

Overall:
Excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
Quiet and view; pool; operative and attractive kitchen.
Enjoyed Least:
No problems.
Surrounding Area:
5 minutes by car to Roussillon, 15 -20 minutes to Apt, Bonnieaux. Close to other hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Roussillon--Walking distance for serious walkers.
Tips or Restaurants:
The home is entirely electric with insufficient amps to run many things at once - e.g. heat, oven, etc. at same time. It can trigger the main circuit breaker outside the house.
The caretaker quickly shows you what to do and it is easily manageable--but it was a surprise when it happened the first time.
Check In Out:
The caretakers were very nice and helpful..
