About The Experience

What comes to mind when you hear the words “Tuscany vacation rental?” Here are few ideas to get yourself going: Chianti wine, sparking pool, and authentic Italian meals. Located near the largest wine festival of Chianti, this Tuscany apartment is the place to come with your family when you don’t want to have to worry about running out of things to do or even cooking meals, as there is a private restaurant on the property grounds available exclusively for guests. Stay locally in the countryside or venture to more urban areas like Florence or Siena. In any case, this is how holidays in Tuscany should be spent, especially when you are residing in one that looks like a medieval castle!

Location Description

The medieval town of San Polo is located three kilometers from the property. Not only are there plenty of shops, markets, and places to buy groceries and go wine tasting, but San Polo features numerous live events, such as classical music concerts and theater performances. San Polo can be traced back to the eighth century and is famous for its centuries old iris farms. In fact, an international Iris Festival is held here every May where irises are exported all over the world and used in making perfumes and cosmetics. Be sure to visit the 11th century church, the Officina della Music (music hall), and view the abundant vineyards surrounding the town. It’s also nice to know that you’ll be less than half an hour away from Florence, a city rich in architectural and artistic masterpieces. Visit the Piazza San Giovanni, also known as the religious heart of the city, and you’ll see the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, built in the 15th century. Other marvelous attractions include the Ponte Vecchio where you can go shopping, the Accademia Gallery full of Florentine paintings, and of course the Uffizi Gallery. Other possible day trips include San Gimignano and Siena.

Nearby Attractions: San Polo (shops, markets, restaurants, live events, festivals, ancient churches), Greve in Chianti (wine tasting, wine festival), Florence (historical monuments, shops, restaurants), San Gimignano, Arezzo, Siena.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
My family loved staying at the villa. The setting was beautiful. The owners were very welcoming, helpful, and great cooks! They prepare meals on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. The apartment was private, yet not isolated, so that we felt we could ask for any help if we needed it. The location was great, too, only half an hour from Florence and next to the Chianti wine area.
Enjoyed Most:
As mentioned above, it was charming, well located, and private yet not isolated.
Enjoyed Least:
It was a little difficult to find the first time, as part of the road to the property was unpaved and about 4 minutes from the nearest village.
Surrounding Area:
The property was beautiful. Florence was about 20 or 30 minutes away. We easily managed to visit other beautiful towns such as Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca, the Chianti area, and other destinations.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Polo was 3 kilometers away, about 7 or 8 minutes by car on winding roads down the hill. It was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bars of soap. You can buy any desired household items or food in the village of San Polo at the supermarket. The owners served delicious meals on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Four courses including a sample of appetizers, sample of pastas, sample of meats, dessert. You should definitely attend at least one of the meals. We explored restaurants in the towns we visited and we enjoyed all our meals. Ice cream is a must!
Directions:
Our GPS only directed us as far as San Polo. Once on the road to the villa, there were a few forks in the road.
