Overall:
I spent almost 3 weeks touring Italy, and would say that this property was definitely the highlight for me and my family.
Enjoyed Most:
I loved the fact that I was able to stay in a medieval town. It was a very unique experience.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Nothing - it was amazing!
Surrounding Area:
One of the best things about Porto 1 is that its location in Vertine is isolated, but close to a larger town. It was very easy to go the 3 km to Gaiole to shop, drink coffee or have dinner. This was a big plus.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Gaiole in Chianti. It would be an easy walk there, but a difficult one back, as it is uphill! It is only 3 km away.
Tips or Restaurants:
The apartment came supplied with soap, shampoo, coffee and coffee pot, oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. The towels were changed during the week. A great restaurant with an amazing view and excellent prices can be found in Volpaia. It's right off the parking lot.

Overall:
We had an incredible time in Italy, and our villa was excellent. Two rooms were great, kitchen was fully outfitted with all you would need including spices and some oils. Property Manager, although did not speak English, was very pleasant and we were well prepared in advance to know what to expect.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved how the villa was authentic. All stone arched ceiling, we loved that it was very private and the fact that we had two rooms so that if someone was watching TV you couldn't hear it in the other room.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Some might say the bathroom was too small but it was fine for us... if you are looking for a romantic bath tub getaway people would be disappointed. The least favourite for us was the dampness of the bed. I think they need to have a mattress cover.
Surrounding Area:
We were pretty central to many small towns and it was great for exploring.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Gaiole, 3km downhill. We walked.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Spaltenna is a great restaurant and has a tasting menu which we both enjoyed as it was 5 small courses so you could try a lot of their great food.
Bring a GPS for driving...we had ours and it worked great, and we didn't get lost once!

Enjoyed Most:
View and area.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Small shower.
Surrounding Area:
View, cuisine. local shops, and a close proximity to other hilltop towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Gaiole is a 15 minute walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Castello di Spagna - just before the little town center. Very expensive, but amazing atmosphere, delicious food with silver star service. Little town has great local produce and the Coop grocery store has fresh bread, porcini mushrooms, fresh cheese pasta, and other good food to purchase as well.
