This villa accommodation is located in the Chianti countryside, accessed via a steep dirt road that protects and isolates it from the rest of the world-- be prepared for some bumps! Your reward is sweet, though: you will arrive to find yourself surrounded by gorgeous Tuscan countryside, with olive groves and vineyards as far as the eye can see. The nearest town is Poggibonsi, which because of the road is about a 15 minute drive away. Due to its position at the point where the Staggia and Elsa rivers meet, this town has been repeatedly attacked, demolished, and rebuilt over the centuries. Today it's more modern than the typical "Tuscan hill town," but it is great for groceries and restaurants. Sights include the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Town Hall, the characteristic main road, and the 14th century convent of San Lucchese. On April 28 the town holds a festival in the honor of this saint -- and his body is brought out to lead the procession! But if you're looking for the classic hill town experience, try driving into nearby Castellina in Chianti, known for its great Chianti wines. Castellina is a medieval village that was once on the front lines of the wars between Florence and Siena. Today, the old fort, in the central square, is home to the municipal offices, and the covered gallery once part of the city fortifications has become the magnificent Via delle Volte. Other sights in town include the Castello (which exhibits Etruscan artifacts), the 16th century church of San Salvatore, and its 14th century fresco of the Madonna by Bicci di Lorenzo. Of course you'll also want to organize a few day trips to some of the other great cities in the area, including Florence, Siena, Arezzo, and San Gimignano. Or, for a more impromptu visit, explore some of the authentic little hill towns on your own.

Its position is exceptional and your gaze extends for kilometres over the greenery with enchanting and ancient towers, farm estates and parish churches. Grassy lawn outdoor area and equipped swimming-pool (6x12). Each apartment has a privated and equipped outdoor area. Shared laundry room (washing machine upon payment). Comfortable rustic-style furniture. Access along 1.8 km of dirt track road, partially steep. Parking. Baby-bed available (Euro 26/week/each).Central heating.

It was difficult to buy matches to light up barbecue- they sell them in Tabbacchi - cigarette shops
Directions:
I have used GPS. Address was easily to be found on Garmin and Micheline satellite maps.

Overall:
I was concerned about being in an apartment and sharing the propoerty with others. This concern was unfounded. The apartment feels like your own villa and there was only one other couple there at the time, so it was like we had the place to ourselves.
Enjoyed Most:
The View! Sitting on top of the hill you can see the surrounding areas in all directions.
The apartment is new, very clean, and spacious. It was perfect for us.
The drive on the dirt road was like a Disneyland ride.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The washing machine is locked in a seperate room which made it inconveniet. You basically had to schedule washing machine time with the manager.
The drive from the main road to the villa is more than a mile of dusty dirt road that is steep down and then steep up with a few hairpin turns. Allow 5 to 10 minutes each way.
There is no outdoor loggia area for the apartment. However, we set up our patio table near the pool and it was great.
Surrounding Area:
Chianti is wonderful. Lots of wineries and relatively easy access to near by towns like Florence, Siena and San Gimingano. We just loved the Chianti country.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The two nearest towns are Poggibonsi 6 km and Castellina in Chianti 14 km.
Poggibonsi has a great COOP supermarket for food.
Tips or Restaurants:
Go to the Melini or Ormani winery early in your trip. They have great wines and they are less expensive than the stores. There is a wonderful restaurant about half way between the villa and Castellina in Chianti.
There is no stereo equipment in the villa, so if you like music bring your own stuff.

Enjoyed Most:
The view was brilliant. Lovely to sit out and not hear anything but distant sounds.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The dirt track. Although the site had said there was a dirt track, didn't expect it to be so steep and windy. Was difficult to maneuver in our small car, which wasn't powerful enough.
Surrounding Area:
Siena was great. So was Volterra. Castelina was good too.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Poggibonsi was nearest town, 6km away - so about 10 mins drive to the nearest shop.
Tips or Restaurants:
Beautiful restaurants in Castellina.
Check In Out:
Gas is very expensive, 3 euros a unit.
