AboutTheExperience

For those looking for a retreat from the stress and motion of Paris, as well as an apartment close to everything, this charming Paris accommodation offers the best of the city experience on the “Enchanted Isle.” The Ile Saint Louis in Paris has a mixture of handsome 17th century architecture, modern boutiques, narrow streets, and magnificent views from its poplar-shaded quays. Guests at this apartment will enjoy complimentary mid-week maid service, receive a Welcome Guide with all the “happenings” going on in town during your stay, and have an English-speaking local on hand to assist with any questions you may have as well provide personal recommendations for things to do while in Paris.

LocationDescription

The Paris apartment is located on Quai d'Anjou (cross street Blvd Henri IV), a street within the Ile Saint Louis-- the island in the heart of the city. There are many restaurants, bistros, museums, art galleries, historic sites, and shops nearby, including the famous Berthillon ice cream parlor. The nearest Metro stops are Pont-Marie and Sully-Morland, about a five-minute walk from the apartment. Just a little farther away is the Saint-Paul Metro stop; it offers a direct line to the Louvre, Tuileries, Champs Elysées, and the Arc de Triomphe.

ExteriorDescription

This apartment resides in a 17th century “Hotel Particulier,” or townhouse, built in 1640. Guests enter the property through a wrought iron gate, which leads to a small, paved courtyard. To ensure guests' security and privacy, there is an intercom and an entry code at the entrance to the building. Once in the building, a spiral stone staircase with wrought-iron railings leads to the apartment on the second floor. The building is kept by a custodian who has lived there for 20 years.

InteriorDescription

(100 m2) Second floor (no lift).
This apartment, with its luxurious and tasteful décor, was featured in Southern Accents magazine in November 1998, and in Italy's Dove magazine in 2000. It features 18th and 19th century oil paintings, precious antiques, three marble fireplaces (for decorative use only), and Versailles parquet floors. Two ceiling-high windows bathe the apartment in natural light and offer a view of the River Seine and the Right Bank. The main room of the apartment has a sitting area, a dining area, an office area, and a second “bedroom” area. This small bedroom used to be a dining room, so there is no door, but it is separated from the other areas of the room by a taffeta curtain. It has a queen-size bed. The office area of the room is wood-paneled, and there is an antique desk with a fax/Internet connection available. The sitting area has a large wooden coffee table, comfortable green chairs, large armchairs, and a fireplace of gray marble. The dining room area has a round, antique wooden table for four people. The kitchen is fully-equipped, and it has a breakfast table and a washer/dryer unit. The separate master bedroom has a king-size bed (can be converted to twin beds upon request), an armchair, Versailles parquet floor, a marble fireplace, and an en suite bathroom that has a tub/shower combination with a handheld showerhead and a curtain. The WC is separate. There is also a second full bathroom, added in March of 2006.

    Enjoyed Most:
The apartment is nice. Location is great! Noisy street below, but location is great. Clean and well decorated.
    Surrounding Area:
    Great location!

    Lorraine , October, 2006

    Enjoyed Most:
The location had excellent access all parts of Paris by foot or metro. It was very quiet compared to other areas. Living in an old mansion was definitely a positive experience.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
The shower bathroom did not give sufficient hot water. Stepped through a wood panel on the floor. But, you expect that in older accommodations.
    Surrounding Area:
Great access to everything. Less touristy.
    Nearby Events or Locales:
    Easy walk to Notre Dame.
    Tips or Restaurants:
We loved the 3 corner restaurants on Ile St. Louis at the Ile St. Louis bridge. Excellent food and local people. L'Epicure shop is a must to see and buy. The beaver is a local bar open late on Ile St. Louis with stand-up singers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights.
    Directions:
Victor Limosine is excellent and a must!
    Check In Out:
A bit of confusion at first. But, we checked in at the time expected.

    Kathleen, October, 2006

    Enjoyed Most:
Location. Property managers were very helpful with info and reservations.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
Poor hot water system, and the people living above us were heavy-footed late at night . Also, felt that an alarm clock and umbrella should have been supplied.
    Surrounding Area:
    Paris is beautiful!
    Tips or Restaurants:
Bring an alarm clock and umbrella...
