Q: Is getting around fairly easy or would I need to rent a car? I plan on staying in Paris mostly but would love to get out to Chateau and wine country
A: I stayed at Rue de Verneil in April 2002. It is walking distance to a metro stop, perhaps 5 minutes away. To get out of Paris, you would need to go from there to one of the train stations, which would also be easy. However, on a previous trip to Paris, my sister and I wanted to go to the Champagne region of Rheims. While we had no problem getting to the general vicinity on the train from Paris, once we got there it was clear that we couldn't get to more than one winery, Tattinger, without a car. So, it depends on what it is that you want to do. If there is a train stop in the town that you wish to see, and you will just be walking around the town, then you are ok without a car. But if you want to see more of the countryside and easily move from town to town, then you will likely prefer having a car. However, you may want to consider taking the train to an outlying area of Paris and then renting the car, unless you are very comfortable driving in European cities. Hope that helps, and we really liked the apartment that you are considering. It's nicely furnished, quiet, good location as well. I did have to clean some sediment out of the master bathroom showerhead in order to maximize the water pressure, but I expect that kind of thing when I rent an apartment.

A: Getting around is very easy and it would not be necessary or advisable to rent a car. The metro stop is very close and trains are available to all the major attractions. If you wanted to go to small villages in the wine country, you might consider renting for a day or however long you would want to stay there.
The Rue de Verneiuil is wonderful. We wish you a very pleasant trip!!

Customer Reviews
Overall:
The time at Rue de Verneuil was wonderful. The area was safe with everything we could have wanted and easily accessible. The apartment was a comfortable place to return to. We could go out or eat in, nice option!
Enjoyed Most:
We appreciated the clean, bright apartment. Annabelle is the best. Loved Garfield too. We also appreciated the wireless internet access.
Unpleasant Surprises:
This is so minor. There were no sheets on one of the beds.
Surrounding Area:
Absolutely everything! Shopping, restaurants, groceries, brasseries, patisserie, ATM, easy Metro access. Everyone was so nice. Fabulous neighborhood!
Tips or Restaurants:
We found we didn't need most of what had been suggested. The best suggestion was to check out the apartment before going out and buying things. We took Paris Shuttle to and from the airport. It was easy and much more convenient and cheaper than a taxi. One member of our group chose the taxi option. Also, I would suggest pre-purchasing the Paris Museum Pass via the internet. Both shuttle arrangements and museum passes are available on the Paris Shuttle website. All dinners we had in the neighborhood were delicious!
Check In Out:
Annabelle met us immediately. She explained everything. We easily arranged our check out with her. Very low-key and easy.

Overall:
Convenient and secure location with access to restaurants, museums, metro, etc. Annabelle, the caretaker, was very helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and plenty of space in the apartment for two people. After a day of touring, it was nice to come back to the apartment each evening and enjoy a glass of wine in a peaceful setting. It was also convenient in the morning to enjoy coffee with fresh croissants from the very nearby bakery!!
Unpleasant Surprises:
Although the apartment is large, it is more ideal for two adults with children versus four adults. The floor in the master bedroom is rather creaky and could use some attention. The drain in the master bath was very slow.
Surrounding Area:
Convenient to everything.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoy the neighborhood as there are plenty of restaurants, bakery, grocery stores, etc. within walking distance.
Directions:
We took a taxi from Etoile and taxi driver took us directly to apartment.

Unpleasant Surprises:
Very small second bedroom! Needs some "sprucing up," such as painting.
Surrounding Area:
The shops, cafes and sites.
Tips or Restaurants:
No need to bring anything, it is all there for you...
restaurants behind the apartment serve wonderful food.
Directions:
Taxi took us there from the airport -- no problems.

Would have been helpful if Annabella had spoken English, but she was very sweet.
