Questions and Answers From Our Clients

(Click the question to view the answer)
Q: Is getting around fairly easy or would I need to rent a car? I plan on staying in Paris mostly but would love to get out to Chateau and wine country

A: I stayed at Rue de Verneil in April 2002. It is walking distance to a metro stop, perhaps 5 minutes away. To get out of Paris, you would need to go from there to one of the train stations, which would also be easy. However, on a previous trip to Paris, my sister and I wanted to go to the Champagne region of Rheims. While we had no problem getting to the general vicinity on the train from Paris, once we got there it was clear that we couldn't get to more than one winery, Tattinger, without a car. So, it depends on what it is that you want to do. If there is a train stop in the town that you wish to see, and you will just be walking around the town, then you are ok without a car. But if you want to see more of the countryside and easily move from town to town, then you will likely prefer having a car. However, you may want to consider taking the train to an outlying area of Paris and then renting the car, unless you are very comfortable driving in European cities. Hope that helps, and we really liked the apartment that you are considering. It's nicely furnished, quiet, good location as well. I did have to clean some sediment out of the master bathroom showerhead in order to maximize the water pressure, but I expect that kind of thing when I rent an apartment. Jean

A: Getting around is very easy and it would not be necessary or advisable to rent a car. The metro stop is very close and trains are available to all the major attractions. If you wanted to go to small villages in the wine country, you might consider renting for a day or however long you would want to stay there. The Rue de Verneiuil is wonderful. We wish you a very pleasant trip!! Neelam

    Customer Reviews

    Overall:
Very good. The apartment was wonderful!!!
    Enjoyed Most:
Location -- close to major streets and attractions but on quiet street and interior courtyard. Well appointed and roomy.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
The interior courtyard has no charm, but it IS quiet. EXCEPT that workers started hammering and drilling early in the morning, doing maintenance and repair on the fronts of other apartments in the courtyard. This is the second time that we've experienced constuction work during our stay here.
    Surrounding Area:
Location is perfect, which is why the worker disruptions were so disappointing.
    Tips or Restaurants:
Bring earplugs and a sound machine - in case there is construction going on. We brought both.

    Overall:
Our experience overall was very good.
    Enjoyed Most:
Location. Very quiet and peaceful, and convenient to restaurants, attractions, and metro.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
Very little not to like, although, we did not have use of the internet or phone during our stay, which did complicate our plans. Annabella did contact the cable service, but they were unable to repair it during our stay.
    Surrounding Area:
Shops, Eric Keiser Bakery, general convenience and feeling of safety.
    Tips or Restaurants:
"Cinq Mars" excellent and in the neighborhood. Also "Mon Vieil Ami" delicious in the Latin Quarter

    Overall:
We had a great time at Rue de Verneuil. It is very well located very close to Musee D'Orsay and about two blocks from the nearest Metro station - Rue de Bac. The flat is in excellent shape and the kitchen appears to be recently renovated. Two en suite bathroom-showers were very nice. The kitchen is small compared to US standards, and the shower in the master bedroom is a bit snug. But, for Europe, the flat is plenty abundant. Annabelle was extremely nice and very helpful. She speaks very little English, but we speak French well enough, so that was not an issue. Overall, we highly recommend Rue de Verneuil.
    Enjoyed Most:
    Spaciousness, location, en suite bathrooms.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
Renter-owner upstairs kept very late hours, and the floors are a bit creaky, so we could hear him walk around into the wee hours of the morning.
    Surrounding Area:
Lots of great patisseries, cheese shop, good restaurants and bistros. Two grocery stores within a block walk - one is the smallest grocery store I have ever been in - they had all that we needed, including a good wine selection, but the single aisle was very narrow. Very close to a Metro station. Excellent location.
    Tips or Restaurants:
The patisserie down the street, Eric Kayser, is excellent for morning coffee-pastries and for a sandwich on the run. Be sure to bring at least one and preferably two electricity converters -- we had two and were glad that we did.
