AboutTheExperience

This ancient structure near the lemon garden has been transformed into a rental villa in Tuscany. Here you will find yourself in a kind of heaven on earth, in elegant but rustic accommodations, surrounded by gardens and beautiful outdoor dining areas. You won't even have to worry about cooking, because this villa in Tuscany comes with its own chef. Within easy driving distance of Lucca, Pisa, and the Coast.

LocationDescription

Set in the lush Tuscan countryside, this estate is situated in the charming village of Vorno, a picturesque and historically aristocratic town at the foot of Monte Zano near the larger town of Lucca. In Vorno, you will find a restaurant, a grocery store, and a bar, while the more cosmopolitan Lucca offers a wealth of museums and restaurants. Founded in 180 BC, Lucca is still surrounded by the old city walls, built to keep out invaders. Inside the walls you can visit the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, Piazza Napoleone, and Torre Guinigi, or treat yourself to some great shopping. The estate is about a ten minute drive from Lucca, a 30 minute drive from Pisa, and approximately one hour from Florence.

ExteriorDescription

(100 m2) This villa rests within a walled Tuscan estate of over seven acres and is one of three independent houses. The villa is located within the south-facing lemon garden of the main villa. On sunny days you can dine "al fresco" in the garden, surrounded by the scent of lemon trees and enjoying panoramic views of Monte Zano and the charming farmhouses and olive groves on the hill. A stone-columned pergola situated across from the limonaia creates a haven for relaxing, reading or simply enjoying a glass of wine. This villa has a small private swimming pool (8m x 5m) and has access to the tennis court of the main villa by appointment.

InteriorDescription

(300 m2) This elegant six bedroom building has graceful wood-beamed ceilings and is located across the south-facing lemon garden of the main villa. It has been sympathetically restored with respect for the existing architecture, while creating luxurious, modern accommodations for guests. The limonaia has been converted to create a magnificent open-plan demonstration kitchen and dining room (seats 16), and also houses an ancient wine press and fully stocked wine-tasting room. Both the dining room and the drawing room have beautiful old Tuscan fireplaces. The six bedrooms all have luxury 180 cm king-size beds and ensuite bathrooms with sink, toilet, tub, and showers in marble tile. All bedrooms have wood beamed ceilings and are furnished and decorated to a high specification, including antique furniture. The state-of-the-art fully equipped kitchen has all the amenities, including stove, oven, and microwave.

Questions and Answers From Our Clients

(Click the question to view the answer)
Q: Villa Santa Caterina - We are looking to rent this Villa in July. Which house does the pool go with? Thanks Deb

A: Our Tuscany experience at Villa Caterina was absolutely heaven. The property is beautiful, the rooms divine but it is the staff that tended to our every need that made this vacation most memorable. There was a question about which pool was designated just for Santa Caterina while we were there. It was one of the smaller pools but lovely and close to that villa. The biggest pool was for the largest villa but management arranged for some of us to use it when the largest villa guests were not swimming there. I hope this answers your question.

    Customer Reviews

    Overall:
There were 10 of us sharing the villa. The concensus was that this was one of the most incredible travel experiences we'd ever had. And we are all seasoned travellers. The rooms, staff and food at this villa are all wonderful. My only real suggestion to the owners would be to take credit cards for payment of additional costs and services. Some of us didn't have cash or checks and it was inconvenient to have to make these arrangements. Ceiling fans in the bedrooms would be a great improvement and probably make the air conditioning much more efficent.
    Enjoyed Most:
The staff and food were unsurpassed. They really knocked themselves out to tend to our every need even arranging special side trips we never would have known about. Gian Carlo and Nazzarino our chefs will be world renowned very soon. Paz and Sandi, the managers run a five-star establishment.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
The large swimming pool should be shared between all the villas. There certainly is plenty of room for everyone. Even the most luxurious hotels share pools.
    Surrounding Area:
Vorno, although small, is quite lovely. Lucca was fabulous and a side trip to San Gimignano made for a very special day. This was the one night we gave the staff off and had dinner at the Antinori Winery. Take a short side trip every day and enjoy lunch out. We ate dinner around 9 PM nightly which was perfect as we had some very hot weather. Several days were over 100. We still had time for a nap before dinner and got in a full day of sightseeing.
    Nearby Events or Locales:
Vorno is right next door....Lisa's Cafe is 50 feet from the end of the Villa drive. Make sure to visit. She has live music on the weekends. We all sang and danced until very late. The whole town was there. It was like being at an Italian wedding.
    Tips or Restaurants:
There is a wonderful restaurant right next to the villa...even closer than Lisa's. It's called Bimboto's and is run by a wonderful woman named Alba. She lived in Ohio for about 15 years and loves to visit, gossip and speak English. She also has a market that sells local goods and delicious olive oils.
    Directions:
It's Italy...what can I say. The road signs could be better posted.
