Customer Reviews

Overall:
Liked coming home after all day sightseeing.
Enjoyed Most:
Location made it easy to visit area attractions.
Enjoyed Least:
The mattress was firmer than we would have liked.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful vineyards, olive orchards, castles, and villa views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest didn't rate as a town, more a village but was within walking distance for those in shape.
Tips or Restaurants:
Stop at the Coop supermarket in Florence for beer, snacks, etc. Some of the neighboring towns have markets, but limited selection and higher prices.
Check In Out:
It was easy.

John, September

Overall:
It was great and far exceeded our expectations. Renata and Alessandro cooked for us one evening, it was really delicious and so much fun. They were lively hosts who entertained us with great conversation as we ate. We ate figs from the tree on the property, too bad the pomegranates weren't yet ripe.
Enjoyed Most:
The overall ambiance, the relaxing atmosphere and the spectacular views. The air was so fresh and clear that we slept with our windows open at night. The villa was spotless and beautifully appointed, we felt so at home.
Surrounding Area:
We walked up and down on the road right outside the villa where we could see the grape vines and olive trees. We were able to drive to other towns for day trips and went to Volterra, Lucca, and Pisa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Montagnana where we could go for cappuccino. It was close enough to walk to but we couldn't because it was not safe to do so. The next closest town was Montespertoli where we went to the market, the Coop. It was a short drive and the market met all of our needs.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought along some zip lock baggies which came in handy and we did use the laundry detergent we brought. Otherwise, everything we needed was there.
Directions:
Directions were great, we found the property with no problem. We rented a GPS through Auto Europe and we were not happy with it, our phones worked far better.
Check In Out:
Check in was fine, we arrived exactly at 2:00 PM and Alessandro and Eduardo were there waiting for us. On check out, we had to leave hours earlier than expected due to a flight change so we were able to lock up and leave the key in the mailbox.

Marilyn, September

Overall:
Relaxing, beautiful, awesome.
Enjoyed Most:
The views.
Surrounding Area:
The views and the proximity to a small town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana; not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely have a meal cooked for you by Alessandro and Renata. The wine tasting and tour at Castellano Sonnino in Montespertoli was very enjoyable.

Karen, September

Overall:
Our experience was simply...perfect. To be so close to so many interesting cities, like Florence, Siena and San Gimingano, yet still be out in the middle of a gorgeous countryside is beyond ideal. The grounds were immaculate and the owners were the definition of "gracious". And yes, the dinner prepared by them offered not only great food, but an opportunity to learn more about the villa, the area and the owners. This place is a 10!
Enjoyed Most:
Sitting outside on the patio, next to the pool, amongst the olive trees, enjoying the endless view would have to be my favorite aspect of the villa.
Surrounding Area:
Everything. We explored the countryside, several cities, the wine and the fantastic local food at the many restaurants and markets.
Nearby Events or Locales:
For a very good grocery store, Montespertoli. Close, but not walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Take the beautiful drive to Panzano and have a leisurely lunch on the patio at Vescovino. You will NEVER want to leave.
Directions:
Using a GPS just made life easier, although taking a wrong turn in Tuscany is almost impossible!
Check In Out:
The check-in and out were a breeze. Remember the extra money for the deposit/cleaning.

Anita, July

Enjoyed Most:
Rural setting, conveniently located near major tourist cities such as Florence and Siena, as well as hill towns like San Gimignano and Montespertoli. Comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
Furnishings on ground floor were outdated, yet in very good condition.
Surrounding Area:
Nearby castle, vineyards and olive groves, all meticulously cultivated. Very picturesque towns within easy driving distance.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnagna. Not quite, though it is walkable. Probably 20 minutes.
Tips or Restaurants:
Both restaurants in Montagnagna are good. One, more like a family restaurant, is great for one's Saturday evening arrival. The other, Il Focolare, a little finer, is excellent. We found an excellent restaurant mentioned in Michelin in Montespertoli: L'Artevino, via son niño 28,and another in Certaldo: Osteria del Vicario, via Rivellino 3 up on top. Get a table outside, overlooking the countryside below.
Directions:
No improvements necessary. GPS may take a slightly modified route, but the owner's directions, which we followed, were great.

Donald, June

Overall:
Amazing! Welcoming! Professional! Safe! Clean! Centrally located! Great views! Great people! Great food!
Enjoyed Most:
Everything. The villa exceeded our expectations. It is in a beautiful location, with amazing views and great landscapes. The pool was wonderful and it felt great to cool off after a busy day of travel to Siena, Volterra, Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Montepulciano, San Gimignano. The best meal of the trip was the feast prepared by Alessandro and Renata. It was an amazing feast and we had enough food for the 4 of us to eat for 2 more days. We are still talking about how wonderful it was.
Enjoyed Least:
Absolutely nothing. This property is fantastic. My husband and I often travel to Europe and rent property and this property was the best ever.
Surrounding Area:
It is centrally located and easy to travel from town to town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We loved our 20 minute walks each day into Montagnana for great coffee (macchiato and cafe' latte).
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything you will need is at the villa. We travelled into Montespertoli (15 minute drive) to get the basic food supplies - and we even discovered some nice local wines at the grocery store (Coop). It is open every day in the summer but closes early on Sunday. We had dinner twice at Il Focolare in Montagnana. Fantastic food and great service. Make sure you take advantage of having Alessandro and Renata cook for you. They are amazing cooks and we think it was the best meal we had throughout our stay (better than any restaurant).
Directions:
Directions to the property were spot on. However, I would never travel without a GPS. Make sure you have the car rental company program it for either the scenic route or direct route (or at least show you how to change it). The roads are small and winding so be careful and let the locals pass you they know their way around.
Check In Out:
Check In and Check Out were a charm. We will definitely be back and we will definitely use RentVillas again. The professionalism of the service provided by RentVillas and Poggio Antico are second to none.

Bruce, June

Overall:
Better than anticipated. Great villa, well-appointed and maintained. Terrific hosts.
Enjoyed Most:
The space and layout of the rooms. You felt at home instantly. The view was terrific. The pool was nice to have on hot days.
Surrounding Area:
The view of the olive groves and vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana. A pleasant stroll.
Tips or Restaurants:
You will not have a bad meal anywhere in Italy. The hosts will cook for you. You will find this delicious with enough food for a few meals.
Directions:
We used a GPS and had no issues.
Check In Out:
Check in/out was extremely convenient to suit our schedule.

Raymond, June

Overall:
I really enjoyed my stay at Poggio Antico. It was clean and comfortable with spectacular views of the countryside. It was also well situated for the various day trips we took to other towns.
Enjoyed Most:
It's hard to pick just one thing. The view, the privacy, the pool, the cleanliness of the place.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing I didn't like. I had absolutely no complaints.
Surrounding Area:
The view was spectacular and the proximity to Florence, Pisa, Volterra and Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montegnana. It was about a 30 minute walk into town.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house was very well-equipped, so I can't think of anything we needed and didn't have. We had a very nice dinner at the restaurant in Montegnana. I think it was called Il Focolare or something like that.
Directions:
We did use a GPS and were fine.
Check In Out:
Everything went very smoothly. We arrived early and were allowed to leave our bags at the villa while we went into Montespertoli to buy groceries.

Leslie, June

Overall:
The view was so amazing and because it was the beginning of summer. The roses and geraniums were particularly beautiful. The house, with original art everywhere, was even nicer than we expected.
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful yard and the view.
Enjoyed Least:
Having to hang out clothes when it rained--ha!
Surrounding Area:
Everything we wanted to see was a pretty good drive away
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagana. No, not within walking distance
Tips or Restaurants:
Just the things RentVillas had recommended: Baggies, dishwasher soap , etc.
Directions:
A map of the area would be helpful.

Sydney, May

Overall:
The entire experience was great.
Enjoyed Most:
It was neat, clean, and comfortable with great views. The owners were wonderful people! We really enjoyed getting to know them.
Surrounding Area:
The olive trees, vineyards, and castle within walking distance and great restaurants very close by.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana. Maybe within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Il Folcalare restaurant was fabulous.
Directions:
The written directions were perfect. GPS gives you the run around.
Check In Out:
Very smooth.

John , May

Overall:
Our trip was awesome!
Enjoyed Most:
The views from the villa were amazing.
Surrounding Area:
It was wonderful to wake up each morning to the Tuscan countryside. Especially beautiful was hearing the church bells ring some mornings from adjacent towns.
Directions:
Directions were great, also having a GPS helped immensely.
Check In Out:
Check in/check out was so easy. Alessandro made the whole process as easy as possible.

Lou, May

Overall:
Our first trip to Italy could not have been more enjoyable. Our hosts were very warm and friendly people, doing everything to make our stay a great one
Enjoyed Most:
Close to everything, only 30-40 minutes to Florence and many other areas of interest yet secluded and private in the countryside.
Surrounding Area:
Visiting the medieval towns of Pisa, Lucca, Fiesole, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli. A car is needed.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just be adventurous and do not over-pack. Casual is the order of the day.

Vince, May

Overall:
One of our best vacation experiences ever. Alessandro and Renata were the perfect hosts, and made us feel as if the villa belonged to us. The villa is what one would expect an Italian villa to look like. The villa is very spacious and well equipped. There were five of us and we all had plenty of room.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, found it to be much more centrally located than I thought it would be. Went to Siena, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano and all wineries in between. Highly recommend asking Alessandro and Renata to prepare a meal. We liked it so much we asked them to do it again. It was too cool to use the pool, but since Alessandro had taken the time to remove the cover and prep the pool for summer, one of our friends took the cold plunge to break in the pool for the coming summer.
Enjoyed Least:
We had some cool weather while there, and the villa did get a bit chilly. But just wore a sweatshirt and wrapped up in a comforter...and had another glass of wine. We were there after the heating season (last week of April/first week of May). No other issues or concerns.
Surrounding Area:
Being in the olive orchards and vineyards enhanced the whole villa experience. Again, was concerned that the location may be out of the way, but found it to be really easy to get to all the places we wanted to go. People in all the close towns were very friendly and helpful. It is closer to Florence than it appears.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Agree with many of the others, while walkable, we never did. It would be a bit of a trek to get to Montagnana. Do have have dinner there as everyone suggests.
Tips or Restaurants:
Nice pastry shop in Baccaiano, went there every morning for coffee and pastries. In Montespertoli, had a wonderful meal at the Il Mondo Degli Gnomi. A real family, local restaurant. Would also suggest a stop at Monteriggioni, a perfect small walled city on a hill, just north of Siena, just off the autostrada. We stayed at the villa for a week, then spent four days in Florence, so we didn't have to deal with travel back and forth.
Directions:
We found the property easily, used GPS. It did help to go to Google earth and check out the location. I felt I had already driven it many times by the time we got there.
Check In Out:
Check in and out were very easy. No complaints at all.

Robert, May

Overall:
Our stay at Poggio Antico exceeded our expectations! It is a beautiful home, inside and out and the owners were very welcoming. One of our best decisions was to arrange for Alessandro and Renata to cook for us the second day after our arrival. It helped us get to know them a little, ask questions about the area, relax and enjoy one of the best dinners we were to have in Italy - with leftovers the rest of the week! They take such pride in their home and their love and care of it is evident. As guests we felt privileged to be there. We were also very lucky to have beautiful weather in April, doubling the enjoyment. It wasn't hot, it wasn't rainy, it wasn't cold. The only chill was in early evening and night, but we just bundled up a bit and enjoyed.
Enjoyed Most:
Very clean, spacious, and the view is spectacular!
Enjoyed Least:
Given we were there in early April, the evenings could be a bit cool but we chose not to use the heating system since it is quite expensive. It really wasn't an issue because we knew our options. Overall, there were absolutely no negatives.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful area in Tuscany. Everywhere you drive or walk is gorgeous. This property is filled with olive trees and looking out over them to the many surrounding vineyards was breathtaking. There are many small towns within easy driving distance. The locals were very friendly. As well, we took day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, Lucca, Chianti, Greve, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Village of Montagnana is a short drive, and a little town called Montespertoli is a little further from the villa, but still a short drive away.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a binder in the kitchen with many ideas for wine tasting, restaurants, etc. We typically cooked in during our week, after a full day out. Small quantities of paper products, dishwasher soap, laundry soap can all be purchased at local markets. There is a washer, but no dryer - and it was actually nice to let things dry in the sun. There is a clothes line on side of house and a portable clothes line kept in the laundry room.
Directions:
Our GPS kept us going in circles, but we finally figured it out. We had missed a first important sign.
Check In Out:
Excellent check-in/out procedures. Alessandro was there when we arrived and when we were ready for check-out he was there 10 minutes early for us. We had no issues, and he had no issues so it was a simple process. He reimbursed us for our portion of the security deposit after automatic cleaning fee was deducted. It was sad to leave!

Kaye, April

Overall:
Incredible and welcoming, exceeded all expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was amazing with furniture and fixtures that were like those in a museum. The views of vineyards, the secure environment and proximity to Florence and small villages was fantastic.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room furniture was not great or comfortable for just lounging, but was great for conversation. Absolutely no other complaints.
Surrounding Area:
Close proximity to wineries, small villages, A1 and Florence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli--a 15 min drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Spices, paper goods.
Directions:
We used Google Maps and it took us the short cut, through the back road which ended up being gravel for about a mile. At first, we were wondering how desolate Poggio was. But, that's just Google.

Michael, April

Overall:
It was wonderful and very comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the comfort of the beds.
Enjoyed Least:
We were there in early April so it was chilly in the house.
Surrounding Area:
Very scenic. The yard was so well kept and clean.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli. No, it was not in walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Read the instructions carefully. We didn't realize we needed to bring toilet paper and paper towels. Also, the kitchen is not well stocked for cooking - needs olive oil, spices, etc. Also, check that water is turned on and hot water is on before check in is complete.
Directions:
We used a GPS but found that the written directions helped!
Check In Out:
It was great to have the owner meet us in the beginning and orient us. Alessandro was very helpful!

Patti, April

Overall:
It was a wonderful experience. The location was super.
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful gardens and flowers along with the location on the highest point of the hill. It was very easy to travel on day trips to Florence, Lucca, Volterra, Montalcino, Chianti wine loop and Siena.
Enjoyed Least:
At this point in the season(middle to late October) it got a little cool in the house.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful small villages, restaurants and vistas.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montaganna. I walked one morning to pick up breakfast(pastries) at the local bar. It took about 40 minutes round trip with a good walking speed up and down hills. I think most people would drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Il Focolare in Montaganna. Make sure you have made a reservation at a restaurant for the Saturday night of your check-in or plan to cook at the villa. You will not be able to just walk in on a Saturday night for any decent restaurant in Montagana(only two) or Montespertoli (a number of good ones).
Directions:
We did use GPS but the US based maps did not identfy a one way street. No big deal as I had the written directions and used Google Earth to review the lay of the land before leaving the the USA.
Check In Out:
Woked very well.

Kevin, October

Overall:
Absolutely fantastic. Wonderful owners.
Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Enjoyed Least:
A little remote.
Surrounding Area:
The Tuscan rolling hills.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montegufoni was the nearest village; Baccaino was the nearest town; it's walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
The local restaurant was family run and very simple.
Check In Out:
Very smooth.

Arturo, October

Overall:
We had a wonderful experience at Poggio Antico. The property was beautiful and well-maintained and the views were lovely. The house was even better than we had imagined it would be, furnished and decorated with love and good taste. The owners were very accommodating, helpful, friendly, and trusting. We all loved our time at Poggio Antico and actually wish we hadn't been so busy sightseeing so we could have spent more time at this lovely villa.
Enjoyed Most:
We enjoyed the lovely views and beautiful outside patio areas. The views with olive groves and vineyards were spectacular.
Surrounding Area:
The vineyards and olive groves. A tour and lunch at Castello Sonnino was a highlight--don't miss it.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana - not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely have a dinner (or two!) prepared by Renata and Alessandro (the owners). It was the highlight of our trip! They are amazing cooks and so fun to chat with. It was the best meal any of us have ever had!
Directions:
Directions were perfect and we did use a GPS to get around the area.
Check In Out:
Check-in and check-out was easy and Renata and Alessandro were very informative and eager to answer any questions.

Sue, October

Overall:
We had a great time. There is a very nice restaurant nearby. It had a good menu with an excellent wine list and very friendly owner/manager.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the facilities.
Surrounding Area:
The views, and traveling to other town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Take a GPS!! Go to Greve. There is a museum, with wine tasting nearby--good wine, food, and friendly staff.
Check In Out:
It was very easy and the owners were pleasant. Excellent cooks !!! Highly recommend their meal.

Luis, September

Overall:
We were in the company of good friends so we enjoyed the experience of good friends.
Enjoyed Most:
Definitely the setting! Sunrise, sunset watching the grape harvest in the fields below us.
Enjoyed Least:
The tubs with handheld shower heads were a challenge for us, as we are seniors. The beds were firmer than we would have liked.
Surrounding Area:
The views, the pomegranate trees, the vistas of old Tuscany, the vineyards, the olive groves. We definitely felt we were "in the moment".
Nearby Events or Locales:
There were two small towns within a short drive. Unless you are marathoners I would not walk. We walked through the hills but never made it to Baccaiano or Montegufoni on foot.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is totally equipped. If you require more personal toiletries they are easily obtained in the little stores in neighbouring towns. The family restaurant in Montegufoni is excellent local cuisine. Reservations are required in the evening (8:00 PM opening) and their mid-day hours are 12 to 3:30. We traveled all over the area and found our best days were when we had a delicious breakfast from the bakery, and a BIG mid day meal about 2:00 PM wherever we happened to be--the food was wonderful everywhere we went. Then in the evening we returned to the villa, enjoyed the sunset with local wine, and cheese and cold meat and bread. Wonderful memories. I must mention the fantastic dinner that was catered in the villa by Renata and Alessandro. It was a five course immersion in fresh, fresh local delicacies cooked to perfection. We ate for hours al fresco and enjoyed a wonderful birthday/50th anniversary experience. Then we shared leftovers for days and revisited that magical evening. Highly recommended to all visitors.
Directions:
We used a GPS constantly. We did not have much luck with our cell phones. We had brought with us a walkie-talkie set we had used successfully in France. One set in each car and we were away! No problem communicating between two cars.
Check In Out:
Renata and Alessandro were very obliging in every way. We soon learned the use of the MANY keys used to lock up had fun figuring out who had which keys on which day! It doesn't take much to amuse a seniors group!

Marian, September

Overall:
My wife and I have visited various regions throughout Italy many times over the last 20 years, however have never rented a villa before. This beautiful villa and their owners only deepened our love for the country and Italian people. The location was convenient to Florence (15 miles South) and the rest of the Tuscany region. The villa's condition, both inside and out was impeccable. Immediately upon arrival we felt comfortably at home and were able to relax. The owners, Renata and Alessandro are the most warm, welcoming and accommodating individuals anyone will ever met. They obviously love meeting new people coming from around the world and have a passion for their villa rental business. We could not have asked for a better scenario, especially since we had a couple with us who had never traveled to Europe in the past. I'm certain they are now hooked and will be back many times in the future.
Enjoyed Most:
There are so many things we liked about the villa, where do we begin... LOCATION: Convenient to Tuscan villages, castles, vineyards and Florence. The train station is only a 5-10 minute drive away if we decided not to drive. CRAFTSMANSHIP: Both the interior and exterior of the villa has amazing attention to detail in terms of the construction craftsmanship. The beautiful wood shutters, etc. are amazing. LAYOUT: The villa has three very large bedrooms with their own individual bathrooms. The house easily accommodated three couples. SPACE: The house is very large, providing lots of space to spread out. We never felt cramped with 6 people. EXTERIOR: The landscaping is impeccable. The pool provided a nice reprieve when the weather was hot. The exterior wood grill was fantastic to cook on. Even though an unexpected rain storm came in one night, cooking in the rain was a fun experience. VIEW: The surrounding olive groves, vineyards and castles on the nearby hilltops is breathtaking.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing about the property we did not like. We LOVED the place and would recommend it to anyone. The only thing we would suggest is to anticipate mosquitoes and bring bug spray with you. We also purchased a few boxes of the PIC coils and citronella candles which we left burning on the patio which helped keep them at bay.
Surrounding Area:
The 360 degree view from the villa's patio, or even through the kitchen windows was breathtaking. We kept pinching ourselves as we looked across surrounding olive groves and grape vineyards at numerous castles positioned on the close by hilltops. We would find a castle and make that a destination for a day trip, which kept each days adventure unique. Driving on the narrow windy roads was always part of the fun getting there!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Within walking distance is the little village of Montegufoni which has it's own castle (Castello di Montegufoni). The castle has a restaurant. A little further away the towns of Montagnana and Bacaino, which can be accessed by a little walk. A 10 minute drive away is the town of Montespertoli, where they have a decent size grocery store and many restaurants. The closest train station is in the town of Montelupo, which is about a 10-15 minute drive away.
Tips or Restaurants:
Come to the villa ready to relax and take in the Italian countryside. If you have the need for a night out, there are many small nearby villages or if you're looking for something bigger Florence is only 15 miles away.
Directions:
We had no problem finding the place, however we did pick up a GPS from AVIS. In fact the GPS worked fantastic running us around the countryside.
Check In Out:
The owners are very accommodating and we can't imagine a better experience.

Rich, September

Overall:
The villa is breathtaking! The view is amazing, the amenities are perfect, and everything has so much thought put into it!
Enjoyed Most:
I loved the owners and the dinner they made for us! The book that they put together with directions to everything was great and helpful too! Of course the view and comfort was my favorite as well!
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitoes--not their fault though.
Surrounding Area:
The castles, cute little towns, and the "walking tour" around the property.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli--not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bug spray and be ready to relax!
Directions:
We had a GPS so it was easy... if we didn't have that, it might not have been easy to find.
Check In Out:
The owners were so nice! They wanted our opinion on the place for any improvements! Very thoughtful, but we couldn't give them any advice!

Kate, September

Overall:
Our stay exceeded even our highest expectations. The villa, the setting, the facilities and the location were simply brilliant. We'd return in a heart beat.
Enjoyed Most:
The property (villa) set the scene for probably the most authentic stay in Tuscany one could wish for. Ideally situated, allowing for easy travel to any number of the attractions and/or experiences one would expect to have in Tuscany. The villa lacked nothing. Every 'mod con' was available and the villa was resourced with everything and more that a week long stay in Tuscany could warrant. Probably the best aspect was the care taken in appointing the villa to make us feel that we were actually 'home' even if only for the week.
Enjoyed Least:
We honestly couldn't fault it. The villa set the scene for a truly authentic and magical stay in Tuscany.
Surrounding Area:
We were there in early September, so the weather was magnificent. The countryside was like a picture postcard and having a vehicle, made it very easy for us to get to all of the areas we wanted to see and visit. The villa is situated on a quiet hillside, but is close enough to the local village to hear the church bells chime in the distance and walk there in a very leisurely 20 - 30 minutes. Closest village was Montagnana.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana. A leisurely 20 - 30 minute walk. Has a small store where essentials can be purchased.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ideally, renters should have their own transportation. This makes the stay so much more enjoyable as you have an added sense of freedom and independence. We booked a lunch at Castle Sonnino. This is an old, still working vineyard/restaurant. Great service, great wines and incredible food - worth booking a lunch there.
Directions:
Directions alone were adequate, however we had a GPS and additional electronic maps, so between the resources we had we found the villa quite easily.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out procedures and costs all clearly outlined in booking documentation. Alessandro and Renata - thank you both for sharing your magnificient villa with us and making out Tuscany dream just magic.

Janet, August

Overall:
Our expectations were exceeded in every way. The villa was just perfect for our family. We visited towards the end of August 2013 so it was very hot outside, but the house stayed cool inside. The pool was enjoyed on a daily basis by all of us. The home and yard reflect the love and care that Renata and Alessandro have for their home.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was immaculate and had all the comforts of home. Having 3 lovely bedrooms (with large beds) and their well-appointed bathrooms was perfect for the 3 couples in our family. The kitchen was very well equipped and we were able to prepare our at home meals without feeling crowded--a perfect kitchen for entertaining. The men were in their element, cooking over the fantastic fire pit. The pool was wonderful, especially in the August heat and the views from everywhere on the property were amazing. We ate almost all of our meals outdoors in the lovely outdoor dining area.
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitoes were a bit bothersome but we used mosquito coils and set up one of the fans outside near the eating area to discourage them. Certainly not anything the owners can do anything about!
Surrounding Area:
Each view is more spectacular than the last. Tuscany lived up to every dream we had. What an amazing area--vineyards, olive groves, fields of sunflowers and hilltop villas at every turn. The villa was so amazing we hated to leave to do any sightseeing. We did manage a wine tasting and lunch at Tenuta Torciano (outstanding) near San Gimignano, a Horseback riding lesson at La Canonica, and a day in Siena which included the Wednesday Market, sightseeing and another wonderful meal! The 'runners' in the family enjoyed daily runs through the area surrounding the villa and loved the views and the fact that they could vary their routes and still be away from any traffic.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was close but at the end of August almost nothing was open. Bacciano was also fairly close but again not much open. We found Montespertoli to be the best place for groceries, restaurants, and gelato!
Tips or Restaurants:
Take personal toiletries shampoos, etc. Also take small laundry soaps. Everything else was there! The Castello di Montegufoni is within walking distance of the villa and now has an outdoor patio restaurant that served great food and was very reasonable. We ate there twice, both times having the 4 course dinner for 25 Euros each. In Montespertoli we ate a couple of times at Il Mondo Degli Gnomi--great pizza and pasta (right adjacent to the town square). Gelateria Fiorentina was another favourite
Directions:
We did use a GPS--could not have done without it.
Check In Out:
The process was fine. Renata was most helpful with the book of instructions, maps, restaurant recommendations etc.

Leslie, August

Overall:
Very pleasant. Relaxing. Helpful hosts.
Enjoyed Most:
Views, pool. Cleanliness.
Enjoyed Least:
So many keys to unlock the fortress! You get eaten alive fiddling with all the keys and locks for the two doors!
Surrounding Area:
Everything! The wine, the cappuccino...
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana. Walking distance but we never walked there. About 15 minutes.
Tips or Restaurants:
All restaurants we dined in were excellent. Especially in nearby castle.!!
Directions:
No GPS. But don't bring your own GPS unless you have purchased maps of Italy.

Alan, August

Overall:
A most enjoyable stay!
Enjoyed Most:
The pool and outdoor area were fantastic!
Enjoyed Least:
There was very little that we didn't like. Some members of our group found the beds too hard, but others found them fine. Also the TVs need updating.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the villa's proximity to many wonderful medieval towns. The views surrounding the villa were also amazing!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnano was the closest village. It was within walking distance -about 30 minutes, but the road was hilly. Much easier to drive!
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't forget to bring mosquito repellant if you come in summer.
Directions:
The directions were quite good and we didn't have too much trouble finding it with the help of our GPS.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out were very easy. Renata and Alessandro were both very friendly and helpful.

Clive, July

Overall:
Wonderful! Even better than we expected.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds, the view, and the furnishings. The owners were charming, helpful, as well as excellent cooks.
Enjoyed Least:
We heard the dogs on occasion, but they were not a problem.
Surrounding Area:
The rural small town setting that was so close to the major cities of Florence and Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was within walking distance, just over a mile. We walked it easily.
Tips or Restaurants:
Check in is Saturday afternoon. Buy food staples before you check in. Ask owner to make a dinner reservation for the first night. Have the owners cook for you. Well worth it.
Directions:
Use Google maps before you go. The "streetview" feature showed the road as well as the house. We rented a GPS for Europe at a reasonable price over the internet. It was good for walking as well as driving. GPS was invaluable.
Check In Out:
No problems checking in as well as out.

Graham, May

Overall:
We loved our vacation and would highly recommend this villa. The owners spoke English and were so welcoming.
Enjoyed Most:
The scenery was breathtaking and the owners are wonderful. The meal they prepared for us was delicious. The villa was spotless and beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
Hard beds and no heat available at the time we were there.
Surrounding Area:
It was so beautiful and the yard was maintained so well.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Baccaiano was the closest. It was about a mile away, but would be hard to reach on foot because of the hills. We bought groceries in Montespertoli, which was about three miles away.
Tips or Restaurants:
I took sample packs of detergent and extra soap.
Directions:
GPS is essential for getting around if you plan to drive very much in Italy. A good driver and a person to navigate is very helpful. Our directions to the villa were very good.
Check In Out:
All went smoothly.

Overall:
This was definitely a home away from home. It is in a prime location for easy touring of the Tuscany area. The home itself is immaculate inside and out. The ambience is most welcoming and the home is beautifully decorated with every detail provided for the comfort and convenience of the guests. We were so happy to come "home" to this lovely locale after a long day of touring. Renata and Alessandro could not have been more accommodating. They are warm, generous and kind and have a wealth of information to share with guests about all aspects of Tuscany. We truly enjoyed this beautiful home and our overall experience so very much. Renata and Alessandro are to be commended for providing such a beautiful home to share. We thank them immensely.
Enjoyed Most:
The comfort and convenience of relaxing in a beautiful home after long days of touring.
Surrounding Area:
The sheer beauty and rich history as well as the wonderful people and welcoming attitudes by all.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything we needed was provided at the house. Renata and Alessandro have an entire listing of restaurants and shops and so much more right at the house. They also are more than willing to provide additional assistance or recommendations.
Directions:
We had a GPS that seemed out of the dark ages so was completely unhelpful to us. Since we failed to bring the directions provided, we relied on the goodness and hospitality of the local people to get us to the house. They were all marvelous and we found it because of their kindness.
Check In Out:
It was very easy and quick and efficient.

Richard, April

Overall:
Renata and Alessandro were fabulous hosts and the villa was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were great and there was ample space for everyone. We had 7 people. The WiFi was much appreciated. Our hosts were very accomodating and eager to help us enjoy our experience. Staying in a 1600s vintage villa--so nicely furnished--was terrific.
Enjoyed Least:
We were the first ones in for the year and the month of March is very rainy, but we dealt with it.
Surrounding Area:
Wineries. Views. Proximity to Florence. Quiet.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Baccaiano was within walking distance and included a bakery and ATM. It was a short drive to Montespertoli and it had the grocery store and anything you needed.
Tips or Restaurants:
Request a dinner prepared by Renata and Alessandro - it is MAGNIFICA!! And do it early as you will have leftovers for 3 more days!!
Directions:
GET A GPS!!! Period.
Check In Out:
Very accommodating. We misunderstood and did not realize we needed cash for the security deposit and the close out.

Mike, March

Overall:
We enjoyed the villa very much. The kitchen was well-equipped, the beds were comfortable, and the entire property was very well maintained. The views of the surrounding Tuscan hills were spectacular and the villa is nestled in an olive grove. The three bedrooms with king beds and en suite baths was an ideal set-up for 3 couples.
Enjoyed Most:
We booked Renata and Alessandro to cook an Italian feast for us. It was a terrific meal and they were both wonderful hosts. They were accessible by telephone or email if needed.
Enjoyed Least:
The American coffee pot was not functioning well, but Alessandro fixed it for us.
Surrounding Area:
Montagnana is a charming small town with a bakery, a terrific restaurant, Il Folcare, and a castle. We also enjoyed visiting the Sonnino castle for lunch and wine tastings in Montespertoli. It was a 30-45 minute trip to the Chianti wine villages of Greve, Radda and Panzano.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is in the town of Montagnana. It was not within walking distance, but was a quick drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed meals at Il Folcare in Montagnana and Durando in San Gimignano. The grocery store in Montespertoli had all the supplies we needed to cook meals at the villa.
Directions:
Our GPS was not functioning initially, so we followed the directions provided. We did get a bit lost, but an English speaking local knew the property and helped us out. The other 2 couples both had GPS units and they had no problems.
Check In Out:
Renata and Alessandro were very friendly and easy to deal with.

Overall:
It was absolutely wonderful. We were 3 couples and each had a large bedroom and their own bathroom. Views were spectacular.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting and the outdoor areas were gorgeous.
Enjoyed Least:
It would have been nice to be closer to a town where we could buy supplies, etc. The nearest town was not within walking distance.
Surrounding Area:
The views, scenery, and vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Baccaiano. No, it was not walking distance
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is very well-equipped. Our best dinners were dinners we made there and the one dinner that the owners cooked.
Directions:
We used a GPS and found it quite easily
Check In Out:
The owner was there to meet us and was very helpful.

Rosanna, September

Overall:
This was probably the most enjoyable trip of many that we have taken. Beautiful scenery, great food and wine, and the villa was superb.
Enjoyed Most:
Great location from which to tour Tuscany. So many mountain towns, vineyards, and cafes in close proximity.
Enjoyed Least:
Showers are kind of small, however that was not an issue at all.
Surrounding Area:
So convenient to fabulous places to visit. Quiet (barking dog stopped once I told him to "be quiet"). Beautiful scenery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
No towns within easy walking distance but only a very short drive to several small towns with COOP (food stores). Nontagnano, Montespertoli, and many winery opportunities. Greve in Chianti is also nearby.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't miss Montepulciano! A true treasure. San Gimignano, Florence (fabulous leather goods, bought 3 jackets). Take ample adaptors for charging iPads, computers, and iPhones. There is WiFi everywhere (almost). Don't forget that an adaptor in not a converter so you will need those, too.
Directions:
We used GPS which, in our case, was a must-have. We would turn it off, get lost on small roads leading to great small towns, and turn it on again to see where we were and how to get home. What a blast!
Check In Out:
The villa owner could not have been more accommodating. He doesn't speak much English but that was not a problem. He is a very nice gentleman.

Scott, September

Overall:
Our overall experience was wonderful, much better than expected. Poggio Antico is in excellent condition and provides just about all the amenities needed. We had Renata and Alessandro prepare two meals for our group. Meals were exceptional. Five courses, wonderful presentation, wonderful mix of Tuscan cuisine, and enough food for two more meals.
Enjoyed Most:
Both the interior and exterior of the property were very comfortable and relaxing. The views in any direction from the terrace and windows are wonderful. The pool was an added benefit after a long day of sightseeing.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing not to like with the exception of flies out on the terrace. No barking dogs!
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful countryside, rolling hills, pristine vineyards and olive groves. Also, a sense that you were sitting in the middle of a historic area that goes back thousands of years.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was about a mile away. One could walk the distance but we didn't. A good restaurant, a small grocery store, and a very good pizza restaurant are located in Montagnana.
Tips or Restaurants:
Poggio Antico provides just about everything that most people need on a day to day basis. There is a Coop (very large supermarket) in Montespertoli, which is about a fifteen minute drive from the property. We did the normal trips to Florence, Pisa, Siena, Volterra and visited several area wineries. We also had a wonderful experience visiting an Agriturismo (Fattoria Lavacchio)just a few miles south of Florence. This property is about a 200-plus acre farm, vineyard, spa,and restaurant complex that also has rooms to rent. Great time touring the winery, lunching at the restaurant overlooking the beautiful countryside. Caution, this property is set well up into the mountains so if you have a little mountain goat in you it would be helpful.
Directions:
The directions to the property were very good. However, finding your way around Tuscany is almost impossible without a GPS.
Check In Out:
Renata and Alessandro were very helpful and informative.

Florence, September

Overall:
Fantastic house, well kept, in a great location. Owners kept house in great condition. Pool lovely and owners were very approachable for questions and advice about the area.
Enjoyed Most:
Views of Chianti region and the pool!
Enjoyed Least:
Furniture in living room could have been a bit more comfortable and inviting.
Surrounding Area:
Less than 30 minutes into Florence; most of the driving on a highway. Montespertoli was a great little town with great restaurants, cafes for coffee, and small fruit and other stores for bread and salami, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana, yes it was. Only had a small fruit stand and one pizzeria (not very friendly there) and restaurant for steak but it was closed in August. Go to Montespertoli only 10-12 minutes away, instead!
Tips or Restaurants:
Loved Montespertoli; go into any restaurant at night near the square and enjoy delicious pizza and pasta. There was one restaurant not on the square that was in the lower part of the town that had a great garden (across from apartment complexes) and really interesting pizzas with interesting toppings. All delicious and thin crust. Bakery in Baccaio is good.
Directions:
We came in based on directions from Rome (the South) on a dirt road; entering from the direction of Montespertoli is easier.

Kyle, August

Overall:
We have rented many vacation houses that were excellent, but nothing can compare with this rental. It is fantastic! Or as the Italians would say, "Perfetto!" The house is comfortable, roomy, furnished beautifully, full of outstanding artwork, equipped with everything one might need, is in a gorgeous setting, has a lovely swimming pool, and even when it is hot at summer's height, there is little humidity and a nice breeze later in the day. The owners are very friendly and very helpful with tips for parking in Florence and other helpful information. Yes, as all the other renters said, to have them cook a meal is quite a wonderful experience--it is tasty, elegant and friendly, with many leftovers to use later in the week. The historic nature of the villa is impressive and also the area emphasizes conservation and doesn't allow development--leaving a wonderful untouched sense to the area.
Enjoyed Most:
The property is surrounded by hills, olive groves, and vineyards. The views are amazing. I had great runs every morning through wonderful landscapes while my wife happily swam her laps some days and ran with me on other days. Our elderly parents loved just sitting around in such beautiful surroundings.
Enjoyed Least:
There really was nothing. We found the reports of other renters about dog's barking exaggerated. The dogs barked once in a while, but not to any disturbing degree, unless you live somewhere where dogs are prohibited. The house-owners showed us these mosquito coils that kept mosquitos away effectively. The whole area is lovely and it is easy to drive into Florence and park, or to go to wonderful nearby towns like Vinci.
Surrounding Area:
Probably one of the most fun parts of the vacation was shopping in the grocery store at Ginestra--which is about 2 miles away down the hill. The store-owner taught us Italian every day and took us for coffee, gave us an Italian dictionary, and on the last day--a poetry book and bottle of wine! Everyone was so friendly in the small towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We preferred Ginestra to Montagnana--it is about 1.7 miles down the hill--not really walkable--but very close by car--a great grocery, a nice pizzeria, a nice cafe, a nice bakery, and other places we didn't try. The restaurant in Montagnana is quite good.
Tips or Restaurants:
Vinci--the birthplace of Leonardo is very picturesque and has a museum with all his inventions--quite fascinating.
Directions:
We used our GPS--get an Italian "chip" before you leave the US--and it was great throughout the week.
Check In Out:
The owners are laid back and accommodating--it is easy to check in and out.

Glen, August

Overall:
Excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The location. The villa had everything we needed, and more. Proximity to many beautiful cities.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery, wineries, restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
Good walking shoes. Car must have GPS. Owners have all the info one needs.
Directions:
Used GPS, but road was unpaved and we had to ask for assistance.

Ahmed, July

Overall:
First of all, the pictures of the property don't do it justice. The property exceeded our expectations. It was very clean and well maintained. The views were excellent. The owners were very nice and accommodating. They made us the best meal we had in Italy. It was a great location for all of our day trips.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was in beautiful condition with beautiful plantings and all well maintained.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery was great and it's close to many small towns and Florence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Montagnana, which was just over a mile away. You could walk to it but we didn't. There was a great restaurant and a pizzeria. Montespertoli was a little over 3 miles away. This was a larger town with more restaurants, wineries and the Coop for your grocery shopping.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you ask the owners to cook a meal. You won't regret it. Be prepared for many windy narrow roads. Castello Sonnino in Montespertoli is a great winery for a tour, tasting and lunch. The villa was very well stocked. Other than food, we didn't need to pick up much. Make sure you have a GPS to get around.
Directions:
We used a GPS to get to the property and for all our trips.
Check In Out:
We arrived a few minutes early. Checking in with the owners was very easy.

Bruce, June

Overall:
Wonderful. The villa exceeded our expectations and we had a fantastic time there.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa itself and its setting. The view was spectacular--over the hills covered with grape vines and olive groves. The villa was extremely comfortable, spacious, and attractive.
Enjoyed Least:
It was farther from Florence than we anticipated (a good 45 min. drive over windy roads) and there were a lot of mosquitoes. However, because of the distance from Florence, we really relaxed when we were there, and we learned to use bug repellent.
Surrounding Area:
It was scenic, and the people were very friendly. One of the best meals we had in Italy was in the small town of Montegufoni where the villa was located.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana. It was a bit far, but we still walked there.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen is very well-equipped. The restaurant in Montagnana, Il Focolare, was excellent and has a lovely outdoor patio for warm-weather dining and delicious local dishes.
Directions:
As they said, following the GPS made it a little tricky, but when you had arrived once it was easy to find again .
Check In Out:
We were late due to traffic from Rome, but they were extremely helpful and accommodating.

Lawry, June

Overall:
Wonderful
Enjoyed Most:
Peace and quiet. The owners were wonderful. Best meal we had was cooked at the villa.
Enjoyed Least:
Not sure the local Coop appreciated the American tourists.
Surrounding Area:
Close to Florence with easy parking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was the closest, best, small town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Use a GPS!

Stephen J., June

Overall:
The villa was beautiful and more than we expected. The owners were so welcoming; we would definitely consider renting again.
Enjoyed Most:
The property was so well-maintained and beautiful with flowers everywhere. The view was one you would like to wake up to every day of your life.
Enjoyed Least:
The neighbor's barking dogs.
Surrounding Area:
The views in every direction you looked.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I do not recall the name, but it was within walking distance as long as you were in good shape. There were many hills and valleys. If you went down a hill, you knew you were going to have to walk back up.
Tips or Restaurants:
Buy a few groceries at one of the nearby towns that has a Coop grocery store. Then you will be set.
Directions:
Without a GPS, would would have been lost throughout Italy. Take a GPS!
Check In Out:
The property owners were there when we arrived and everything went very smoothly. They are a wonderful family.

Sharon, May

Overall:
We loved Poggio Antico and it was everything we were hoping for. The hosts were amazing. Renata and Alessandro were so helpful with suggestions on meals, places to visit, places to shop, etc. We found the property to be gorgeous and immaculate. They have a lot of pride in their property and it shows. Our anniversary dinner prepared by Renata and Alessandro was absolutely amazing!! All six of us were just blown away at their attention to detail, pride in the local vegetables and meats and service. They made our anniversary vacation truly memorable and special.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything!! The house is extremely inviting. It has a beautiful living area, great kitchen, and the bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and clean. We spent most of our afternoons relaxing outside on the patio, after a day of sightseeing, taking in the view. We made dinner several evenings and enjoyed them outside or in the kitchen nook.
Enjoyed Least:
If I have to say something we liked least, I guess we would have to say that we had to walk a bit farther to get gelato than at other properties. Which I guess is a good thing!
Surrounding Area:
The view, it was breathtaking, right out of a movie. We also enjoyed the privacy and peace and quiet. Poggio Antico is far enough away from everything but close enough to get there if you desire.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We found that Baccaiano was the town we walked to the most. We caught the bus there for our trips back to Florence and Rome. We are walkers, so this wasn't far for us--however, it might be too far for some. We also enjoyed Montespertoli and Certaldo.
Tips or Restaurants:
We would definitely recommend having Renata and Alessandro cook for you. The meal is extremely personal and their company is delightful. We enjoyed the Castello Sonnino lunch/wine tasting and Giuseppina's cooking school in Certaldo. We would recommend both to future travelers.
Directions:
We found the property easily with GPS.
Check In Out:
Alessandro was there to greet us, loved this property!

Janae, May

Overall:
Our stay at Poggio Antico was beyond our expectation. What a fabulous villa--everything was perfect and we enjoyed it all. Renata and Alessandro work very hard to make things perfect for their guests and it shows.
Enjoyed Most:
The spacious rooms, the gorgeous view, the outdoor area with comfortable seating, the cozy kitchen, the quality of furniture and decor in the villa. We felt at home there.
Enjoyed Least:
We had a little trouble finding it but that was mostly our fault. OK, we have to mention the dogs barking, which wasn't that bad, but only because it's hard to find something we liked "least".
Surrounding Area:
Very peaceful area, the villa was so close to the COOP, and restaurants, when needed.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was the nearest small town and we could have walked there if we wanted to. We visited Montagnana to dine at Il Focolare and to purchase gas for the rental car.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa has everything you need. Do remember to take the mosquito repellent as some in our group were bothered by them. Also be sure to stock up on wine--we had some trouble early in the week finding a place to purchase due to poor planning on our part.
Directions:
We had two cars arriving from Firenze. One found the villa easily, the other did not.

Jane, October

Overall:
The house was well equiped and very nice.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were spectacular.
Enjoyed Least:
The upstairs showers were too small and constant barking dogs. Also, there was a shortage of bath towels.
Surrounding Area:
The location is very central.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nothing was really within walking distance with the narrow roads and changes in elevation.
Tips or Restaurants:
The castle was within view and only 1 mile away and had incredible 5-course dinners on the terrace for 25 Euro per person It was like a scene from a movie. The food was excellent.
Directions:
We used a GPS and it took us to the property with no problem.

Gorden, September

Overall:
Very relaxing.
Enjoyed Most:
Loved the whole thing and the meal cooked by Alessandro and Renata was fantastic.
Enjoyed Least:
There was no taxi available.
Surrounding Area:
There are wineries and towns within easy driving distance.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana--you could walk if you like but we didn't.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you have a dinner cooked by the owners, probably the best meal we had in Italy.
Directions:
Taxi drivers from Florence didn't know the area so we got a bit lost.

Lisa, August

Overall:
Simply fantastic.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting is right out of the book "Under the Tuscany Sun." The house of filled with wonderful art and antiques, yet has all the conveniences of a modern home. The pool was a real bonus given the climate in August.
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitos and wasps were a little troublesome at times. Plus the house was quite warm most of the time.
Surrounding Area:
The views are spectacular. It is a quiet country setting amongst the olive trees and vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was about 5 minutes drive. The problem was that everything was closed because people were away on vacation.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bug spray and you may want to pick up some grocery essentials before you get to the house. A shopping trip to the Co-op takes a few hours, so arriving with groceries is a good idea.
Directions:
This place is very hard to find so a GPS is recommended. We didn't have one and we got lost.
Check In Out:
The owner was there to greet us and did a thorough job of showing us through the house.

Gord, August

Overall:
Very satisfied and pleased with the experience.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, privacy, views, and hospitality of the hosts and their advice and help with reservations. The accomodations included many useful extras such as WiFi, computer with Skype, and CD collection.
Enjoyed Least:
Mosquitoes are a general problem in Tuscany.
Surrounding Area:
Many things to do as day trips
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monterpestoli
Tips or Restaurants:
Restaurants: Il Focolari in Montagnana is a must for the Tuscan Steak, service, and good value.
Directions:
GPS worked fine, directions were also helpful.
Check In Out:
Owners were there to greet us and send us on our way.

Daniel, August

Overall:
Excellent
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful house, warm and friendly hosts Renata and Alessandro
Enjoyed Least:
Occasional barking dogs in the night from neighboring properties and loud early morning tractors from neighboring properties
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful scenery, great location, nearby towns
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana
Tips or Restaurants:
Recommend having Renata and Alessandro prepare dinner one night at the house--it was delicious and fun
Directions:
We found it fine, although there was probably a more direct route without going over the unpaved backroads

Steven, July

Overall:
Fantastic, the property exceeded our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The incredible views and the smell of fresh roses and jasmine that was in full bloom.
Enjoyed Least:
The unpaved road to get to the property. However, that was a small price to pay for the benefit of the view.
Surrounding Area:
The location was great, 20-30 min to Florence, 40-50 min to San Gimignano, Siena, Pisa.
Tips or Restaurants:
The only suggestions I would give is to be sure to hire Alessandro and Renata to cook at least one night for you at the villa. The are fantastic cooks. They share and teach you their recipes and they cook enough for at least two or more meals. I would rent a vehicle with GPS to get around, but don't trust GPS to always provide the safest or legal route. As for restaurants--too many good ones to choose from, the food in Italy is excellent.
Directions:
Don't trust GPS to find the property. GPS was useful to get to the main exit, and then we followed the written directions from Rentvillas. GPS takes you a different way and the road was unusable at the time without four wheel drive.
Check In Out:
Alessandro and Renata the owners are wonderful, helpful people.

Douglas , May

Overall:
Outstanding. More than we expected.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting. The vistas were spectacular. Its location was ideal. Within striking distance to Florence, Siena, San Gimgnano, Pisa and of course, the wine country.
Enjoyed Least:
Narrow, winding roads, but that's typical of Tuscany.
Surrounding Area:
The vistas and access to other towns in Tuscany.
Tips or Restaurants:
If renting a car, rent an automatic and be prepared for narrow, winding roads and chaotic traffic in Florence and map cap drivers everywhere. Restaurants Il Focolare in Montagnana and Il Mezzo Maranio ? in Baccaiano. Bring a cell phone for emergency purposes only.
Directions:
Use a GPS.

Ralph, May

Overall:
It was amazing. It was everything we thought it would be like staying in Tuscany. The house was perfect, so warm and inviting.
Enjoyed Most:
The quiet, being able to relax out by the pool. Our kids enjoyed the pool everyday. Also being so close to big cities and tourist attractions.
Enjoyed Least:
ummmmmmmmm...
Surrounding Area:
The small towns were lovely, they had some nice resturants. We took day trips to San Gimignano and Siena - beautiful. Just driving around was breathtaking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana. You could walk it if you wanted. We drove as we went out for dinner or for daily bread and milk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definately try out the local resturants. The Pizza resturant in Montagnana is great and a seafood resturant we went to in Baccaiano - twice - is amazing. And the hostess is so lovely, she makes an effort to speak English. Just as every resturant we have been to in Italy, they are very accomodating to children. The house had everything in it that we needed. It was very well equipped.
Directions:
We had a GPS in the car. We had no problems at all.
Check In Out:
It all went smoothly. The owners are lovely and were there to answer any questions we had.

Ryan , May

Overall:
Our family had an amazing experience at the villa. We looked forward to coming 'home' after each excursion. It was central for the area, and gave us the opportunity to explore so many beautiful towns and cities in the area. Sitting outside was peaceful, and we enjoyed having breakfast on the patio!
Enjoyed Most:
Meeting Alessandro and Renata was wonderful. Their dinner was a highlight of our trip...our family enjoyed the evening greatly, and the leftovers, too!
Enjoyed Least:
Some folks in our party were awakened by the barking dogs next door, but that is the only drawback we experienced.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the binders of information about the area, and followed several of the suggestions for visits. We visited wineries, medieval towns, Florence, and Siena. Each day was exciting as we visited many beautiful, historical churches, museums and galleries.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There was a small town with a small grocery available - the binders at the villa give lots of information about all the shopping areas. However, there were some surprises--finding the grocery stores unexpectedly closed.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you wish to go to the galleries in Florence, book your tickets well in advance! We enjoyed the restaurant in the village - the ideas in the owner's binders are the best recommendations of all. The villa is so well equipped - complete with hair dryers, that we had all our needs met! It was an amazing experience.
Check In Out:
We were so grateful to meet Alessandro and he was very helpful.

Jane, May

Overall:
This was one of the best vacations we have ever had, and one of the main reasons was because of our choice of villas. Beautiful house, incredible views, and the owners could not have been more gracious and helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
I liked the view the best of all. The house itself was just lovely, but the views were like something out of Under the Tuscan Sun. Too good to be true almost.
Enjoyed Least:
There was absolutely nothing we didn't like about the property. I had read complaints of barking dogs nearby--but they only barked when someone came by which was infrequent so it was like having our own little watch dogs.
Surrounding Area:
The villa was conveniently close to all the amazing towns in Tuscany. We traveled to Lucca, Siena, the Chianti region, Pisa and several other smaller towns. As long as you have a GPS, you can easily visit the entire region from this villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was the closest village--and it was within walking distance, but I wouldn't do that. There is no good walkway along the sides of the roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
The one thing I would urge is for future renters to be sure and have the owners come to the house and prepare a dinner. It was the absolute highlight of the trip. When we first heard the price, we thought it sounded high, but decided to do it anyway--and thank heavens we did. It was a huge five course meal, the best food I have ever eaten and we had enough left-overs to feed all six of us a second night with still a little left over after that--so all in all a wonderful experience as well as a bargain. And there was nothing we wished we had brought. The house was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need...including a computer that worked just fine.

Sharon, April

Overall:
This RentVillas property was better than excellent! It was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! - incredible rooms with so much attention to detail - every available convenience - spotless - beautiful grounds and patio area - excellent location - wonderful region to be in. We loved it and plan on going back in the future.
Enjoyed Most:
Its location - the patio area - each of the bedroom/bath areas was so comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing - all seven of us loved it all.
Surrounding Area:
Absolutely everything - gorgeous hills of emerging grapevines - all the little villages surrounding the villa - the local wineries and their tastings.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was nearby, but not within walking distance - for us, anyway. Montespertoli was a bigger town with a Coop supermarket.
Tips or Restaurants:
No suggestions - the villa had excellent notebooks of info for guests to use.
Directions:
We had a GPS which was very helpful - we had loaded the European maps onto it before we left home.

Barbara, April

Overall:
Wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
Charm, location, beautiful. Really felt like you were relaxing in the beautiful Tuscan Hills. Overlooked castle, beautiful grounds, furnished authentically, didn't feel like rental - felt like you were staying at a relative or friend's home.
Enjoyed Least:
Neighbor's dogs barking through night.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful!!! Montespertoli had local charming ceramics- we met artist and she took us back into her shop - we saw her items for sale in San Gimignano for much more. Castles galore! Easy to Florence. Found parking, but quite a walk - since we were traveling with children and grandma. Used Piazza San Marco as drop-off, pick-up location. Many wineries nearby.
Tips or Restaurants:
GPS a must! Enjoyed local shops for groceries, didn't need to go to real grocery store at all. They had washing machine and internet! No DVD and TV was only Italian, so if traveling with children, may want to be aware of this. We brought ball to play catch and games. Beware if you get carsick - very windy roads and crazy drivers, but that was part of the adventure.
Directions:
Accurate directions, but still needed GPS. We also found that we used GPS to mark where we parked places like in Florence and had option of using on pedestrian mode to return and we pre-routed possible day trips, so it was easy to pull up on spot. GPS gets confused sometimes in roundabouts many, many of those and with so many little streets and one-ways. Don't just listen to directions; have "co-pilot" looking at gps as you go!

Julie, April

Overall:
It was a trip of a lifetime. We are already planning our return.
Enjoyed Most:
Owners, pristine, villa location.
Enjoyed Least:
nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Felt like we were locals.
Tips or Restaurants:
I suggest traveling when it is a little warmer due to heating costs.
Directions:
We used a GPS and needed it because we traveled from Rome and came in on smaller roads that gave us a great view of the country.
Check In Out:
Very easy.

Gary, March

Overall:
Owners particularly helpful and genuine.
Enjoyed Most:
Quality of property and beautiful setting.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany landscape.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Rental car needed.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just rely on the owners for advice.
Directions:
Got lost going there. Some of the roads to it are not paved and the GPS is serious when it says it wants you to turn onto a very small dirt track from the blacktop.

Kyran, October

Overall:
Fabulous. The owners could not have been more gracious.
Enjoyed Most:
The few, the olive and pomegranate trees, the cleanliness of the grounds.
Enjoyed Least:
The house was a bit cold, maybe firewood would have been nice. Also, having a larger sofa in the living area would have made it more comfortable for a group of six.
Surrounding Area:
The convenience to Florence and so many small Tuscan towns which we visited.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Villa is equipped with everything! Our best meal was the one the owners came and cooked for us.
Directions:
Was a bit difficult getting there, but I believe some of that was our sleepless driver and not understanding how our GPS worked.

Debbie, October

Overall:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Poggio Antico! Our expectations of the villa were far exceeded! The views were spectacular and our host and hostess Renata and Alessandro were the best! They cooked us a most fabulous meal and we really enjoyed their company!
Enjoyed Most:
The views were outstanding! We took a million pictures at the villa! We were surrounded by olive groves and were fortunate to enjoy fresh figs from one of the trees on the property.
Enjoyed Least:
There wasn't anything we were dissatisfied with.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area was just beautiful! What's not to enjoy! We had a castle just down the road and a winery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montegufoni was just down the road 2 km and we walked into Baccaiano which had a small grocery store.
Tips or Restaurants:
Our favourite restaurant was in Montespertoli and was owned and operated by Rocco and Tina. We went there twice and enjoyed the best food and wine! Neither Rocco nor Tina spoke English but they took care of us. We did not order for either visit, Rocco brought out various dishes and we were all very happy with his selections. They even sent us on our way with a bottle of wine! Truly the best restaurant in the area! We were fortunate to read previous reviews on visiting Italy and brought along a GPS I had to order the italy chip for it and it was our saviour. I do not suggest you rent a car without bringing along a GPS.
Directions:
GPS was essential! We were able to travel around Tuscany with very few issues using the GPS.
Check In Out:
Renata and Alessandro and very accommodating. We arrived early and it was not an issue.

Leslie, October

Overall:
All who stayed at the villa agreed that the property exceeded their expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were gorgeous. The kitchen had everything we would need and more. Really appreciated that Renata was fluent in English. She was very helpful in working with a potential cooking class and saved us 4 hours of drive time.
Enjoyed Least:
Not much to dislike. There were mosquitoes but we had been warned about those.
Surrounding Area:
We drove to several small towns and particularly enjoyed the walled cities like Lucca and San Gimignano.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was nearby, but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
For restaurants close by we enjoyed Il Focolare in Montespertoli.
Directions:
We used GPS and the address.

Tresa, October

Overall:
Wonderful location and countryside - a truly quintessential Tuscan experience! We could not have asked for a more relaxing, beautiful atmosphere. The house has beautiful appointments and decor, but we honestly spent the majority of time, and meals, outside on the patio and pool area. Great!
Enjoyed Most:
The patio and pool - a fantastic outdoor living space complete with exquisite views of the local countryside...vineyards, olive groves, etc. The house itself is of course VERY comfortable, well appointed kitchen for cooking.
Enjoyed Least:
We have no "negatives" for this villa - simply wonderful. If one wanted to nit pick then you might comment about things that are just part of the experience: the last leg of the road to the villa from the FI-PI-LI side is a bit rough and needs to be taken slow; the wasps love the villa as much as anyone, but were NEVER aggressive or a problem. They would just come and go as we did.
Surrounding Area:
Everything. Even the next door neighbors were friendly, waving hello or goodbye as we came and went. There has been much talk by previous guests about the 'barking dogs'. There are dogs right across the street - but they were NEVER a problem from our experience. As with the wasps, people having dogs is part of life, and yes, on occasion will bark at an animal, passerby, etc. Florence is about a 45 minute drive - give or take - and the owner can show you just where to park! There is just TOO much to see and do when you take into consideration that you also just want to soak up the atmosphere. The town of Colle di Val d'Elsa is easy driving distance and very picturesque!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana is an easy walk, and don't missing having a meal at the local restaurant Il Focolare. Very small, very wonderful - DON'T miss their steak Florentine. Montespertoli is about 10 to 15 minutes away by car - and this is where you will likely grocery shop. They really have just about everything you need - and DON'T miss all the incredible food available at the deli counter. They don't speak English, but they are friendly and pointing, and saying "grazie" goes a long way. The offerings are DELICIOUS!
Tips or Restaurants:
Do NOT miss having a dinner prepared by the owners!! One of the highlights of the stay. The steak carpaccio - to die for! To bring? Though not a significant problem, you would do well to have bug spray if you are planning evenings on the patio and pool area which you will want to do. While the small units that put out a mist to keep them away are okay, you really need some direct application for outdoors.
Check In Out:
Very easy process to check-in and out. The website made it sound fairly "formal", etc., but it was actually very comfortable and casual.

Dean, September

Overall:
Experience was terrific. We had a great time. The villa was in excellent condition - we wanted for nothing.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was breathtaking. The pool was a nice amenity to come 'home' to.
Enjoyed Least:
There are dogs in the house across the street that are very 'yappy' - more of a nuisance that a true bother.
Surrounding Area:
Surrounding town was great - visited a winery and went for long walks along the fields of grapes.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was the nearest town - it is not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
We would recommend this place - house is well equipped.
Directions:
A GPS is mandatory - very difficult to navigate without one.
Check In Out:
Owners were there to greet us - everything was in pristine condition.

Amy, September

Overall:
I'm speechless. It was amazing.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the owners and their family.
Enjoyed Least:
Mosquitoes.
Surrounding Area:
Views, people and the grocery markets. It was all a wonderful.
Tips or Restaurants:
Best food was prepared by the owners. Everything was perfect.
Directions:
GPS worked OK.
Check In Out:
Wish check-out was later.

Dolores, August

Overall:
Our overall experience was well beyond our expectations. It was excellent! The house and property were immaculate, and words can not express the beauty of both. The owners were wonderful and very helpful. The whole experience was one of the best that I have ever experienced at a rental property and I hope to return some day.
Enjoyed Most:
There was so much that we liked about the property that it is hard to pinpoint just one thing, but the views were absolutely outstanding. Also, the kitchen was very well stocked with everything you could possibly need, the bedrooms were roomy and comfortable and the fans were a nice touch. The pool and veranda were airy with a nice breeze always blowing through. I can not say enough good things about this property.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing about the property that we did not like. The only thing that we thought was a little off was the 45 Euros per person for cleaning. There were six of us which equated to 270 Euros which is quite a lot of money for cleaning.
Surrounding Area:
The house was very centrally located. It was an easy bus ride to Florence, and an easy drive to all of the major towns. We drove to Pisa, Lucca, Sienna, Montepulciano, and San Gimignano with no problems.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Baccaiano. It was a good place to pick up the bus to Florence, which I would advise rather than driving. There were no towns within walking distance, but very close when driving.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house is fully equipped, so I can't even think of a thing that one would need other than their personal items. There was a hair dryer, a computer was available for a fee, they had a converter for electrical items to charge cameras and cell phones. We brought our own toilet paper as instructed, but it was not necessary, as they did provide it. Il Virginio was a nice restaurant that we went to twice. It seemed more authentic than most of the restaurants that we went to in the touristy towns. Just take an Italian-English dictionary as the menu is in Italian only! The servers were very helpful and nice, as was everyone in Italy!!!
Directions:
We used a GPS which I would highly recommend when traveling around Italy. It worked very well.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out were excellent. Renata speaks excellent English and explained all appliances and how to use them to us prior to turning the property over to us. They informed us of what we were to do when leaving the property so there were no questions or misunderstandings. Everything went perfectly.

Sharon, August

Overall:
We LOVED Poggio Antico! It was even better than we expected. The owners were very nice and helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were amazing, the pool was a real bonus that the kids really looked forward to enjoying after a day of sight seeing. The house was beautifully decorated, and comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
Everything was great.
Surrounding Area:
Poggio Antico is so close to Florence, we had a WONDERFUL lunch at a nearby winery, and it was within driving distance to many Tuscan delights. We visited Lucca, Pisa, San Gimignano, Siena, and Florence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli - wonderful winery Castello Sonnino. Served us a great lunch with a tour. One of the highlights of our trip, as far as food goes.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house is very well equipped.
Directions:
GPS was a real blessing, it got a little mixed up at the end, but no real problem finding it.
Check In Out:
Family very nice and accommodating.

David, July

Overall:
The villa itself was beautiful and immaculately clean, with everything we needed for a perfect vacation. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and gave us great advice for day trips and recommendations for dining, shopping, etc. We would definitely return to Poggio Antico, and will recommend it highly.
Enjoyed Most:
We liked that the villa was away from traffic areas, but was close enough to other towns and cities that we could easily make day trips and then come back for a swim at the end of a long hot day out.
Enjoyed Least:
As other renters have said, there were bugs, but mostly wasps around the pool area. We didn't find the mosquitoes to be a big problem - it was also very hot the two weeks we were there. When we left the villa in the morning, we shut all the windows and shutters and when we came back, it was a lot cooler than it was outside. As for the bugs, we were happy for the Vape plug-ins, and the window screens!
Surrounding Area:
The views from the villa were amazing - you could see olive trees and vineyards for miles around. Tuscany is beautiful in the summer, and there are many larger cities and smaller towns within driving distance, so you are never short of something to do.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Montagnana, which could easily be walked to. We spent a lot of time in Montespertoli, about 10 minutes drive. We shopped at the Coop and ate three times at a fabulous pizzeria in the square.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring mosquito repellent. Make sure you get some groceries before you arrive on Saturday. Our flight was late, so we didn't arrive until 8:00, so it was too late to get any supplies. We walked to Montagnana the next morning to get a few groceries from the little shop there, since the Coop in Montespertoli doesn't open on Sunday.
Directions:
We used a GPS to find the property, but it told us to turn off at the wrong place once. We managed to find it, though.
Check In Out:
I thought the cleaning fee was reasonable, considering the size of the house, and that there were 4 of us staying there. Check in was easy and quick.

Victoria, July

Overall:
Fantastic! We loved our holiday in Tuscany and staying at Poggio Antico was so enjoyable and relaxing.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa is beautifully decorated, very clean and well stocked with all the essentials. The setting is magnificent, as you are surrounded with beautiful flowers, plants, olive groves and vineyards. Best of all, the host family is so gracious and hospitable. Our family loved meeting the host family. Renata gave us wonderful suggestions for visiting the nearby towns.
Enjoyed Least:
None! We would love to return to Poggio Antico some day. So much more of Italy to explore!
Surrounding Area:
The views are amazing. We enjoyed both the views from the villa and taking walks to see more. We loved driving through all the small towns on our way to Siena and Florence. We had no trouble finding a good restaurant nearby.
Tips or Restaurants:
Besides bringing a GPS to navigate throughout Italy, we found the villa to have all the essentials.
Check In Out:
We had to leave a day early and the host family was very accommodating with the check out process.

Debbie, July

Overall:
It had everything we could possibly need and then some. A beautiful place.
Enjoyed Most:
The view!!
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitoes - but we figured out how to use the Vape plug-ins and those worked great.
Surrounding Area:
The proximity to Siena, Florence, San Gimignano.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The little towns of Montagnana and Montespertoli. Montagnana was within walking distance but small roads may be dangerous for walking.
Directions:
They have a new off-ramp close to the house that is not quite on the GPS radar yet, and we missed it a few times and had to double back.

Nancy, July

Overall:
Perfect - had high expectations, and they were met.
Enjoyed Most:
Ambiance, beauty, spaciousness.
Enjoyed Least:
Dogs next door.
Surrounding Area:
Everything - view, people, food and wine.
Directions:
We used a GPA - worked perfectly.

Anne, June

Overall:
Absolutely wonderful - the owners prepared a wonderful Tuscany dinner. The entire experience was well beyond our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and how it was a home-away-from-home.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing that we did not like about the property.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside, the quiet and the peacefulness.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was 5 mins away by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owners more than adequately stocked the villa with all your basic needs.
Check In Out:
The owners were very accommodating with suggestions, directions, maps, and easily reachable.

Kim, June

Overall:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we appreciated all the info available at the house as far as how to operate everything and what was in the area. There was a wealth of info for us to use and plan our stay.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the beautiful sights from every window, the sounds of the bells from nearby towns and the intoxicating smell of the jasmine on the terrace.
Enjoyed Least:
The property owners were at the property twice for several hours while we were there. We felt that their presence interfered with our privacy and vacation time.
Surrounding Area:
Everything. This house was convenient to everything... Florence, Chianti wineries, small charming towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
You only need to bring your personal items. The house was very well equipped with things like dishwasher soap, dish liquid, trash bags. The Coop is convenient to the property and you can get anything else you need and the prices are very reasonable.
Directions:
The directions were clear and accurate. We did have a GPS with us but the directions from that brought us in via the dirt road.

Kathleen, June

Overall:
Fabulous! the villa is beautiful and immaculate, and has so much character.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, the pool and the spacious rooms.
Enjoyed Least:
The shower in the largest bedroom is a little funky, expandable shower doors that were a little difficult to negotiate, but we got the hang of it eventually!
Surrounding Area:
The restaurants! the charming towns of Montespertoli and Cerbaia...gorgeous views everywhere
Nearby Events or Locales:
Not within walking distance, you really need a car.
Tips or Restaurants:
A GPS is a must! We had the owners cook us a dinner on our second night, and it was incredible. Any advice Renata gives your regarding visiting Florence, the nearby towns, etc, you would be wise to take it! She gave us flawless advice about parking in Florence, and it was a life saver.

Anna, May

Overall:
Beautiful. The Villa is even prettier than the pictures. Italy is FANTASTIC!
Enjoyed Most:
The location was great. It was CLEAN and the owners were so sweet. After one week they came and put clean towels and sheets on our beds. This was great! The villa is close to the small towns making it easy to get food. The Coop is the place to shop for food.
Enjoyed Least:
It was COLD and rained the whole time we were there, which made it harder to get around. We had enough wood for one fire, then needed to buy wood. I think that the wood should have been included.
Surrounding Area:
All I can say is FANTASTIC. To wake up every morning was such a pleasure, even with the rain. We all wished the weather was not so bad. We did bring sweaters and coats thank GOD.
Tips or Restaurants:
Even though the weather on the internet says it OK, take a warm sweater, coat and rain coat. The owners have put a book together as for sights and restaurants to go to. This was very helpful.
Directions:
A GPS is a must just to get around Italy..
Check In Out:
Our flight to Italy were very late. We did not get to the Villa until 1:00 AM. We called the owners and they left the key for us in a hidden spot. This worked out OK. As for the check out it went very smoothly.

Diana, May

Overall:
We had a grand experience and over all pretty wonderful time.
Enjoyed Most:
The outside patio, Views! Just amazing views. What a perfect spot.
Enjoyed Least:
We stayed at the villa in early April, and it was cold. The owners told her that there is a law against turning on the heat after the first of April.
Surrounding Area:
Very very much so. It all was a wonder.
Tips or Restaurants:
Let them be aware of the heating, the expense if they get to even turn it on! No good suggestions for where to go, it's all there and in Rick Steves books, plus you just ask any of the locals.

richard , April

Overall:
We had the most fantastic time at Poggio Antico! Our hosts were amazing and truly made our stay incredible.
Enjoyed Most:
It was secluded and quiet, but at the same time there were amazing views of several surrounding towns. In the mornings and evenings when we were at the house we could hear the bells from the surrounding towns announcing the time.
Enjoyed Least:
Can't really think of anything!
Surrounding Area:
It was nestled away in the countryside away from the noise and bustle of the city.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana and Bacciano were the nearest towns we went to. Montagnana had a little gas station and wine shop that were nice, and Bacciano had a little grocery and bar where we could get a Coke or Coke Light! or sweet treat if we needed one! Neither were really within walking distance, but both were within 7-10 minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Listen to the owners! They had such great advice that we changed our plans to what they suggested! The only thing we really needed that we didn't bring were matches for the fireplace, but we got those at the local COOP grocery store. Definitely take up the hosts on their offer of a true Tuscan dinner!! The food was so amazing and they were so much fun to hang out with!
Directions:
Whatever you do - be sure to get or bring a GPS!!!! We had Google map printouts that didn't really help us very much! Without GPS on our Blackberrys we wouldn't have made it!

Kari, March

Overall:
Our stay at the Villa was everything and more that we expected.
Enjoyed Most:
The privacy and the cleanliness.
Enjoyed Least:
NOTHING.
Surrounding Area:
It was like being in a living painting. The surrounding countryside was amazing!
Tips or Restaurants:
The Villa was very self-sufficient. It was fully stocked with all the necessary accoutrements. I would suggest that you familiarize yourself with the local grocery store named Coop. The best and only restaurant in the nearest town is called "Il Focolare". It was so good I guarantee you will return again before your stay comes to an end.
Directions:
We rented a car with a GPS and I strongly recommend it. We were never fearful of getting lost even after making an incorrect turn. We were always confident that the GPS would get us there and back.
Check In Out:
The owners of the Villa are delightful people who made the transition in and out a smooth process.

John, October

Overall:
Our family loved the villa. The location was excellent. The accommodations were great. Everything people have written about the villa and the owners is true. We just loved every moment.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, comfort.
Enjoyed Least:
Dogs barking across the street.
Surrounding Area:
Olive trees, grape vines, wineries, local restaurant.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Shopping at the COOP in San Casciano was a good recommendation. We stopped before we went to the villa to stock up on basics. They had a bigger selection than the COOP in Montespertoli. We loved il Focolare...great steak.
Directions:
We used the GPS. It was very helpful.
Check In Out:
The owners are delightful. They were very helpful in helping to plan our day trips.

Ava, October

Overall:
Renata Alessandro went above and beyond being good host. They made sure that my birthday celebration was the best it could be. I had no idea that their car had been stolen and they came out at 7:30 am to prepare a wonderful lunch for 10 members of my family. They took our car at 5:30 and drove our guest back to Florence. Then Alessandro brought our car back with Otto, their dog, and took his motorcycle back home to Florence. I purchased a ring at the shop where Renata works and on Friday night they brought the ring to the house for me. Now I'd say that's going over the top in hospitality!
Enjoyed Most:
The minute I walked in I felt like I was at my Nonna's house. The views from the patio and bedroom windows were just what I expected. I especially liked having a home to come to every night after touring. Two weeks of driving in Italy was exhausting...especially since I was in the back seat. Thank God for GPS.
Surrounding Area:
The country side is beautiful and there was a wonderful ristorante about 3 minutes away. The house is about 30 from Florence and other hill towns about an hour.
Tips or Restaurants:
I didn't pack a flash light but our cell phones gave off enough light when we forgot the exterior light. Alessandro fixed the exterior lights when he saw they didn't come on automatically.
Directions:
The directions took us the back way up the partial dirt road and GPS tried to take us the roundabout way. GPS is a must...but sometimes we got confused and had to be re-routed.

Diane, September

Overall:
It was a wonderful trip and Poggio Antico is a great place to call home.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa is a wonderful property with gorgeous antique furniture. The kitchen is great to cook in. The outside area is wonderful for dining. The pool is well maintained.
Enjoyed Least:
The barking dogs across the road.
Surrounding Area:
The gorgeous scenery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was the closest town, but the village, Montegnana was only one km away. It is within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't open the windows that don't have screens on them. Take ear plugs to help shut out the noise of the barking dogs.
Directions:
We didn't have a GPS, but we had no trouble finding it.
Check In Out:
The owners are wonderfully hospitable. We thought the 45 euros per person cleaning fee was a bit steep. It was far more than we've ever paid before.

Bonnie , September

Overall:
Overall, the experience was awesome! The villa sits on a hillside and offers spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside. Peaceful, private and quiet, mostly - are words which best describe Poggio Antico. The property had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay and the kids really liked having a pool to play in.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and the privacy.
Enjoyed Least:
Barking dogs from an adjacent property in the middle of the night and mosquitoes!
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed exploring the small towns and wineries in the surrounding area. The locals were very friendly and very helpful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montegufoni was about a mile away, but we opted to drive because the roads were not well lit and the mosquitoes were abundant.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a good mosquito repellent if you want to spend time outside after dark.
Directions:
The directions were perfect and we had no trouble finding the property.

Scott, August

Overall:
We arrived in the pouring rain but the evening sun soon appeared. The view was beautiful of the surrounding hills and local villas. We did various excursions as it was very easy to drive to SIENA AND SAN GIMIGNANO, ALSO FLORENCE.
Enjoyed Most:
The back garden full of terracotta pots of hydrangeas and others with geraniums. The roses were in full bloom in the flower beds all carefully attended. We often sat under the covered loggia for quiet time while the children swam in the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Our first evening the dogs next door must have realized we were strangers and sang a chorus at 4:00am. This did not occur again. We gave all the dogs names and talked to them!! We were unable to escape the mosquitoes; therefore, we kept the windows shut at night.
Surrounding Area:
The vista of the far hillside was very panoramic and Tuscan. Driving on the back roads were always a new experience as so may small villages. The local wine was excellent.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montegnana was about 2km and too hot to walk. We also used the small local shop to order fresh bread each day for breakfast.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed the local pizzeria. One had to book on the Sunday evening as all the locals also gathered there. Excellent pizza. It is a very well appointed house and everything was provided. Be sure to bring ointment for mosquito bites.
Directions:
We did use GPS in English. We would not have wanted to be without GPS.

Rosemary, July

Overall:
Our stay at Poggio Antico was by far one of the best we have experienced.

Enjoyed Least:
NA
Surrounding Area:
The people, the views, the location close to wineries and Florence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Remember your swimsuit and laundry detergent. Have the owner cook a meal! We found a little restaurant called Virginio that had wonderful food, great prices and no other tourists.
Directions:
We did have a GPS but the directions got us to the villa without any problems.
Check In Out:
The late arrival 7:30PM gave us an opportunity to stop at some hilltop towns at the way up from Rome The cleaning fee seemed to be a little high.

Kathy, July

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. The views were spectacular, and the villa was well-located for trips to Florence, Siena and other towns.
Enjoyed Most:
The covered back porch and the patio with the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Proximity to the dogs at the house next door, which would bark at random hours in the night.
Surrounding Area:
Very rural, with vineyards and olive tree groves in every direction.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli, the closest small town with any real services, was a short drive, but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
As a number of other reviewers noted, Il Focolare, which is very near the villa, is excellent. The best meal we had was the one prepared by the owners.
Directions:
We used a GPS, which worked fine.
Check In Out:
The owners were very accommodating.

Daniel, May

Overall:
A wonderful week, in an incredibly beautiful setting.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was quite spacious and very comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
Leaving it!
Surrounding Area:
We drove over 1000 km exploring areas from Vinci to Siena. One beautiful view after another.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was about 3 km from the villa, with some uphill stretches to get the heart working.
Tips or Restaurants:
Buy edibles in the small "Alimentaris" - we found the owners very helpful even without English and the shops had a real local flavor. Good restaurants are everywhere. Do less, relax more!
Directions:
No GPS. From an in-Florence car rental location we drove west to the A1 south, then picked up the Fi-Pi-Li Autostrada to the exit in the Rentvillas directions. Absolutely no problem finding the villa. Or anything else.

James, May

Overall:
We had a family reunion, and this was the perfect place. Enough for everyone to do or not do. The house was a pleasure to come home to every evening for wine and cheese and talking about the day. Everyone loved the dinner the owners made for us, and we had enough for the next night.
Enjoyed Most:
It's a real family home, filled with beautiful antiques and art. Being there is like borrowing the home of a friend with very good taste, not at all like being in a house furnished just for rental. The owners are wonderful people. We spent time with the whole family the evening they prepared a meal.
Enjoyed Least:
I hate to say it, because I love the olive trees, but they are so close to the terrace and the yard that you can't get much of a view. They do produce a delicious oil, which you can purchase. Editor's Note: The owners have agreed to either remove the trees or lower the height, so that the views can be seen.
Surrounding Area:
We loved walking in the neighborhood. There are vineyards and olive groves, wonderful views in every direction. Even a nearby castle. The neighbors were friendly. The local wine coop was just down the hill.
Tips or Restaurants:
We liked the pizza at the place in Montagnana, and we liked Il Focolare across the street. The COOP in San Casciano in Val de Pesa is much bigger and better than the one in Montespertoli. They are both open Sunday mornings, so don't panic about breakfast on Saturday afternoon.
Check In Out:
We were worried about arriving with enough cash for the deposit, cleaning fee and dinner. You don't need it all up front. When we left, the cleaning and dinner were deducted from the deposit.

Judith, September

Overall:
It was exactly what we were looking for - a quiet settling in rural Tuscany, within a short drive to the sights, sounds and tastes of Tuscany. The property itself was far better than we had anticipated.
Enjoyed Most:
We were just two couples and the space was incredible. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The meal Alessandro prepared was quite an experience, don't go there without at least one meal by Alessandro. The property itself is beautiful, very clean, a fantastic kitchen and antique furnishings everywhere.
Enjoyed Least:
Mosquitoes were a problem until Renata explained how to rid the property of them. Screens are on all windows, just keep the doors closed and use the bug killer if some happen to get in.
Surrounding Area:
Rural Tuscany is fantastic! The people in the small towns are very friendly and helpful. The Coop in Montespertoli is great. Fresh meats, cheeses, breads and produce. Warning!! Use the plastic gloves in the produce section or you will get a lot of nasty looks. Also, be sure to weigh the produce and attach the sticker.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana is nearby, about a kilometer or so, but not a rwalking destination. The roads are really too narrow.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring mosquito protection and use at dawn and dust. Try the restaurant in Montagnana. It is open for dinners only starting at 8:00PM. It is family-run and very, very good. Also, there is a great pizza restaurant in town.
Directions:
Don't go to Italy without a GPS, if you plan to drive. We brought a Tom Tom which I preprogrammed for the day trips we took. You could spend your whole trip trying not to get lost without a GPS.
Check In Out:
Try not to get there before 5:00PM as it's a large property and takes a long time to clean and get ready after the departing guests leave at 10:00AM.

Robert, September

Overall:
Very enjoyable. A well kept and maintained property, nicely furnished.
Enjoyed Most:
The quiet gardens, olive groves and tasteful decor
Enjoyed Least:
No door screens, so keeping insects out and allowing ventilation was a trade off. Windows were screened, so this helped. There was some "work" noise from surrounding farms, but not too intrusive. The pool is a PVC container, not a tiled afair. The water quality was poor. Editor's Note:The pool water problem has been addressed. September 2008.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside and towns are all wonderful. An exceptional climate, beautiful local cuccina cuisine, very friendly people and of course the art, history and mystique of Florence, Siena, Volterra, Lucca and so on.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli - not really walking distance unless one felt like a hike, but not inconvenient. We found ourselves going to the HyperMarket a Coop about 8 miles away in Lastra Signa rather than the smaller one in the nearest village.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring mosquito repellent and use it prophylactically from day one. We were caught out by the number of mosquitoes and their aggressive nature. We got into gear by day three and sprayed the rooms every night 20 minutes before bedtime while we played cards in the kitchen. We found guidance in one of the RentVillas books after the fact - of course we did not read these end to end before we started.
Directions:
Yes, GPS is a must. BTW - the gasoline and diesel pump nozzles all fit the cars in Italy!!!! I put gas into a diesel engine by mistake as aresult no advice when I picked up the car - no sticker on the car just a "diesel" word in handwriting on the key fob and the diesel pump nozzle says "gazoil". My fault in the end, but with four kids in the middle of a trip it is an easy mistake to make when filling up by reflex. It cost be 800 to repair.

Paul, August

Overall:
Very nice. The property was just what we expected for a true "Tuscan" experience. The owners were fantastic and made us feel very much at home.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting was spectacular, and we loved the outside dining and pool areas.
Enjoyed Least:
The only negative was it was a little hard to find. Other than that it was wonderful!
Surrounding Area:
The Tuscan countryside was spectacular and the little towns were great. It was so much fun to plan our meals and then shop in all the little markets.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Mantagana. We walked to it almost every day.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Lanterna, which is about 10 minutes away, was fantastic, and the people there treated us like family.

Ray, July

Overall:
Absolutely fabulous! It exceeded our high expectations and I am very picky! House was extremely clean and well equipped. Bathrooms were very nice. Owners were exceptionally nice people and made us feel very welcome in their home. They were very helpful with suggestions on towns to see.
Enjoyed Most:
Breakfast outside, coming back to the house after a day of sightseeing and hanging by the pool. Alessandro's dinner was a must-do as well. It was the most amazing meal!
Enjoyed Least:
A couple of the nights the barking dogs were a bit loud and we had to keep the window closed. Earplugs did help. This certainly wouldn't prevent me from coming back though.
Surrounding Area:
The views were incredible. Enjoyed going to the small towns, great time at the Castello Sonnino winery. We enjoyed shopping at the Coop - the fruits and cheeses were excellent. Enjoyed the town of Volterra as well.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a dictionary. We found a lot of people didn't speak English. Especially at the Coop store. We enjoyed Le Artevino restaurant in nearby Montespertoli, great meal! Definitely bring a GPS if you are renting a car, it makes a big difference. It was great having a washing machine as well, don't forget to buy fabric softener at the Coop.
Check In Out:
It was great having the owners there on the first day. They explained everything. They also came during the week to do some gardening which helped when we had additional questions.

Robert, July

Overall:
The villa is fabulous and the owners are wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
Views and swimming pool!
Enjoyed Least:
Next door neighbor dogs bark constantly.
Surrounding Area:
Wonderful towns all around the villa and everything is so easy to get to.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was the closest town. We had a car so we drove.
Tips or Restaurants:
All of the restaurants listed are wonderful. The owners had everything there for us.
Check In Out:
We had to leave early for the airport so the owners came over the day before and settled the deposit with us. They were great to work with and lovely people.

Patty, June

Overall:
We couldn't have stayed at a better villa! Clean, inviting and absolutely beautiful. The owners take great pride in this home and their attention to detail is second to none. You will not be disappointed in choosing this as your vacation villa.
Enjoyed Most:
Our favorite part about the villa was its close proximity to other Tuscan cities for easy day trips. Also, the pool was ideal for our son.
Enjoyed Least:
When we first arrived after a 16 hour trip from California, the owners were there to greet us which was very nice. However, they were doing some maintenance work to the property and they stayed until 8:00 at night which was a bit encumbering. Also, there were some barking dogs next door that woke us up at night. And those mosquitoes weren't very friendly.
Surrounding Area:
The scenic dirt road to the small town of Triniste sp? was worth the quick trip to eat some very good home made gelato.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was the closest small town. We never walked, but you could. Also, Montespertoli was about a 10 minute drive with a Coop, restaurants, hotels, etc.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bug repellent and some small pool toys.
Directions:
We did have to call the owners to clarify one of our wrong turns. Other than that we found the property fairly easily without a navigation system.
Check In Out:
The only thing I would suggest is to remove the photos of the wine rack from the photos of the villa online. The photo suggests that the wine is there for your enjoyment, but when you arrive there are notes indicating not to touch the owners wine collection. Also, make sure you lock up the doors and the security shutters whenever you leave. We made the mistake of just locking up the glass doors one day and the owners were not happy about it. We apologized and didn't let it happen again, but just wanted to make sure others are aware.

Kimberly, June

Overall:
This must be what heaven is like. We enjoyed everything about the property. The roses in full bloom, the views and breezes through the open windows, the relaxing patio chairs, the outside dining area that was covered - all made our stay so great. We loved being out where the birds were singing, away from the busy traffic of the cities.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners were so helpful and pleasant. She spoke perfect English so she was able to answer all of our questions. There was an entire book shelf with maps and guide books about Italy that we read through in the evenings. We played Italian music on the CD player and pretended we were Italian. We loved everything.
Enjoyed Least:
Leaving it after our two weeks there.
Surrounding Area:
Many interesting places to go within an hour or a little more. We loved cooking Italian foods in the kitchen and went to the grocery in Montespertoli which was close by.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Montagnana. We took the bus from there. I am glad we had a car to go to small towns. It gave us more flexibility.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring an attitude of enjoying a slower pace. We geared back and just enjoyed the slower pace of reading by the pool and cooking an Italian feast. Since we stayed two weeks we could allow a day or more to just relax at the villa. We still had time to see many wonderful sights throughout Italy.
Check In Out:
Smooth.

Kim , May

Overall:
Poggio Antico is an outstanding property and experience. The house commands a hilltop view across the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The house itself is spacious, beautifully decorated, and perfectly outfitted. The owners are exceptionally gracious and thoughtful hosts. You really can't do better than this.
Enjoyed Most:
The views across the hills, day and night. Sitting outside on the covered patio with breakfast and morning coffee. Returning from a day's outing to relax in the family room. A fabulous dinner prepared by the owner. Don't miss it, it's worth it.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing
Surrounding Area:
Meandering along the country roads. The villa is a great base for touring the Chianti countryside and Tuscany, generally, and the drive to Florence is also simple. Shopping at the Coop supermarket in Montespertoli was fun, as we puzzled our way through unfamiliar brands.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was closest, with gas, an alimentari for a few essentials, and two good places to eat - see below. We walked to Montagnana easily one morning, and drove there and to Montespertoli several times.
Tips or Restaurants:
In Montagnana, Il Focolare was excellent for Florentine beefsteak, and we also much enjoyed the casual local place across the street from the alimentari where we had the pizza, which was very good.
Directions:
We had a portable GPS with good maps of Italy, which made driving easy everywhere.
Check In Out:
The owners explained everything necessary when we arrived.

Richard, April

Overall:
The owners welcomed us and showed us all of the important items to know about on the property. There were 3 couples and we all loved the house and surrounding area. It was very convenient for travel to the countryside and Florence. Everything we needed was provided. The only thing we could have asked for was a little more Tuscan sun.
Enjoyed Most:
The fabulous location and wonderful walking areas.
Enjoyed Least:
The extra cost to heat the house because it was pretty chilly while we were there. We did know that upfront, though.
Surrounding Area:
The quiet and the views and the lack of car traffic.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
We did discover that the pizza place in Montagnana served a wide variety of excellent local food, not just pizza. They do ask for reservations and it fills up quickly with locals. Everything we needed was provided except for paper towels and there is a super little market in Montagnana to buy food, etc.

Richard, April

Overall:
Everything is great! The owners are very helpful and friendly. What a place!
Enjoyed Most:
The view, the peace and quiet, the olive groves, the place itself were all great!
Enjoyed Least:
Having to leave it! That it's not ours!
Surrounding Area:
Easy to visit, close to quaint spots, little towns of the Chianti region, springboard for day trips, going out and coming back in the evening.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was the nearest, but we'd still drove there, especially at night to Il Focolare, a great, great restaurant!
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't miss Il Focolare in Montagnana and wine tasting lunch at Castello Sonnino. Bring sweaters in November.
Directions:
Enjoy the views! Watch out for the roundabouts!
Check In Out:
Don't forget to bring the 500 Euros, and leave the keys as instructed!

Carter, November

Overall:
We were very pleased that the property lived up to the description on the Internet site. It was comfortable, the meal prepared for us by the owner was fabulous, and we will definitely be back.
Enjoyed Most:
We enjoyed the quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
Unfortunately due to the weather, no fault of the property, it was very chilly.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area provided many points of interest to visit within one day's time.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure to bring warm clothes if you are coming in the later part of October.
Directions:
Very easy to locate. The person doing the driving had never been overseas and was still able to locate the villa without any difficulty.

Patricia, October

Enjoyed Most:
It was easy to get to and very well maintained and equipped.
Enjoyed Least:
The view would be better if there wasn't so many overgrown olive trees. It was a bit cold at night.
Surrounding Area:
There is a wonderful restaurant in town. The owners provided us a very simple map to get around which was very useful. It was a convenient location but still felt private.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Not too much in walking distance but need a car anyway to explore the Tuscany area.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house is fully equipped with the essentials. You'll need soap for the washer and spices to cook. The owners make their own olive oil....it is fabulous. The owners are very nice people.

James, October

Overall:
The owners are very helpful and attentive to your needs. If you have him cook for you, do it early in the week as you will have a lot of leftovers. By the way, the food is excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The Views from anywhere are outstanding. It is an easy drive to any of the little villages around Tuscany. The home is comfortable and cozy.
Enjoyed Least:
The dog next door would start barking about 6:30 in the morning. I found ear plugs were very helpful.
Surrounding Area:
What's not to like? The whole countryside is filled with olive trees and grape fields. The land is very rolling, and it looks just like it does in photos I have seen.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana is the nearest town, and if you are a walker, you can walk to it. However , it is hilly and some of the roads are not paved, so I would use caution and only walk it during the day.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would bring a few CDS with me and also a few movies for relaxing at night. There are only two English speaking channels on the TV, and only one TV that has satellite. Also, there is no phone in the villa, so I would recommend that you bring a cell phone that will work in Europe.
Directions:
Easy directions to and from the villa. We arrived in Pisa and drove there with no problem. Took about an hour. Also picked up a friend in Florence and had no problem finding the house. The roads are narrow to the property and there are no street lights, but we did not have any difficulty finding our way at night.
Check In Out:
Very easy check-in. The owners greet you when you arrive.

Margaret, October

Overall:
The owners were there to greet us and were very helpful in telling us how to operate the appliances and supplying us with information about the area. You couldn't ask for a better host and hostess! He cooked a spectacular dinner for us at the beginning of our stay so don't miss it!
Enjoyed Most:
Our favorite part of staying at Poggio Antico was the covered patio. We had coffee there every morning and enjoyed the magnificent views! After a day of touring we came back to play cards at the patio table or relax by the poolside.
Enjoyed Least:
We loved everything about the property!
Surrounding Area:
We particularly enjoyed the beautiful landscapes.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was the closest town, however, we did not walk to it.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa had everything we needed although we did bring a box of plastic bags that really came in handy.

Kathe, October

Overall:
We loved being in Tuscany during the grape harvest - it was later September and grapes were being picked and crushed at the nearby winery.
Enjoyed Most:
It was in a beautiful spot with great views, and was meticulously kept, clean and charming! You can tell it was built and is kept with love, including the gardens. It was easy to get to once you figured out where you were.
Enjoyed Least:
Beds were too firm for our taste. We know that's common, but since you asked.
Surrounding Area:
Being surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, yet minutes away from a great restaurant, winery, and pastry - seemed like a true slice of Italy. Definitely needed a car to get around. The Tuscan Olive Oil Association was also nearby.
Tips or Restaurants:
The have plenty of great suggestions at the Villa, including books, maps and menus, but San Gimignano was a great find on a Sunday when most things are closed. Also beware of many restaurants closed on Monday and/or Tuesday nights. Was good to be able to cook a bit. No need for pool towels - they had plenty. Try the local winery just up the street.
Directions:
We drove from Venice and there were no specific directions from there but had GPS which finally got us there! I would recommend GSP if driving to places like Florence.
Check In Out:
The owners met us there and welcomed us - they are great!

Ann, September

Enjoyed Most:
All the beautiful antiques, the view from any direction, the seclusion.
Enjoyed Least:
Too many antiques.
Surrounding Area:
The view, the seclusion.

Michael, September

Overall:
Great place.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners are very gracious and attentive people - attentive without being intrusive. They clearly take a lot of pride in their home and maintain it beautifully. They came several times per week to clean the pool, maintain the grounds and tend to the olive groves. Their visits were always welcome as it was a pleasure to talk to them and they were a great resource re sights to see, driving instructions, restaurants etc. We enjoyed their company. The best thing about the property itself was its proximity to Florence - 15 minutes by car - combined with being in the "middle of nowhere". We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the villa and have fond memories of sunny afternoons by the pool and large Italian meals in the outdoor dining room. The villa offered a great combination of isolation, vineyards, and olive groves, yet was just a stones' throw from Florence and other larger towns.
Enjoyed Least:
We had no complaints at all.
Surrounding Area:
Great little towns that were only a short drive away San Gimignano, Greve, Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo - nothing was more than a 1.5 hr drive.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana. An easy walk from the villa with 2 restaurants - Il Foccolare was one of the best meals we had in Tuscany - beautiful. The second was a pizzeria - simple pizza and pasta a consistent hit with the kids.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house was fully stocked. The owners even have a large selection of maps, travel books-guides, and phrase books. There were plenty of towels, beach towels, soap, toilet paper, dish-washing liquid, sponges, cloths. Most of the items that the Rentvillas website recommended that we bring were supplied by the owners. We found ourselves needing very little. We went to the grocery store and bought some paper towels, dishwasher and laundry detergent, bug spray and citronella candles (there were mosquitoes and wasps), and groceries. Other than that, the house was stocked.

Maureen, August

Overall:
It was a pleasure to "live" in a house for a week. Doing the laundry, shopping and preparing food, was great for a family traveling together. It was easy to get to the hill towns and Florence. The owners were so warm and so helpful. This trip was our last hurrah before we send our older daughter off to college. We could not have asked for a better setting. For those of you with teens, there is plenty of family time and alone time and the Italian MTV was fun. They know quite a few Italian tunes now. The pool, as mentioned earlier, provided the best family time and fun. We are planning to go back again some day with or without kids but in the meantime we have wonderful memories to sustain us.
Enjoyed Most:
There was so much we loved that it is hard to narrow it down. Everything we wanted was provided for us. The property exceeded our already high expectations. It was amazingly beautiful, private and at the same time, welcoming. The pool was fabulous after a very warm day of sightseeing and we absolutely loved cooking and having many of our dinners at the house.
Enjoyed Least:
Can't think of anything.
Surrounding Area:
The Tuscan hills were almost dream-like. It was everything we imagined, read about or saw in movies and more. The town of Montagnana and Montespertoli were very friendly.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We had a couple of lovely "healthy" walks but we drove to the closest towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
As I said before, you don't need to bring anything but toiletries. Bug lotion and this bug incense we bought from the states helped a lot. There is a video store in Montespertoli where we picked up a couple of DVDs to rent. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Make sure you book a dinner by the owner. It was an amazing meal and it was great spending some time with the owners and their dog. Do make a reservation at Il Focolare in Montagnana. The food is fantastic and it's very charming.
Directions:
Follow them closely and you won't get lost.
Check In Out:
Again, the owners made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Everything was explained carefully and there is a helpful binder to remind you of everything.

Lee, July

Enjoyed Most:
We loved the location and the owners were wonderful. The dinner they cooked for us was the best in Italy. The villa was perfect for 3 couples as each bedroom had it's own bathroom. The kitchen is fully stocked and a joy to cook in. The yard and surrounding area is beautiful. A true Tuscan experience.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing
Surrounding Area:
The area was fantastic and just as we imagined Tuscany to be. The hills covered with olive trees, vineyards and villas were a perfect backdrop for a wonderful experience. We enjoyed walking to the nearest small village to shop for food at the cute little market. The people in the area were so friendly and kind making us feel right at home.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Montagnana about five minutes by car. We enjoyed the very scenic walk, however, which took around 25 minutes.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be sure to have the owners cook a meal for you if possible. You won't regret it!!

Debra, July

Overall:
The villa was everything we had hoped it would be. It was of sufficient size for our group, although 8 might be a stretch. But it is a beautiful place, well-maintained and the owners were wonderful to us. They cooked a meal our last night which was fabulous. The only trouble was that it was too much to eat and since we were leaving we couldn't enjoy the leftovers. However, the meal was as outstanding as any we had anywhere and they were very attentive. We couldn't have asked for a nicer time and a more wonderful place to stay.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the view and the morning quiet times. Although it was rainy on the first part of our visit, it didn't impair anything we wanted to do. The villa was close enough to Florence and the highways to other locations but still in the rural area so we got the best of both worlds.
Enjoyed Least:
There really wasn't anything we disliked.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding towns were beautiful. Sometimes the roads could be a little narrow but the drivers generally move to one side to let cars pass. We didn't do extensive traveling by our car but we did cover the surrounding 25-30 km area and some local restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town is within walking distance but in the heat of the summer, it could be a long walk. We walked to the store in 20-25 minutes. The store provided much of what we needed for out stay.
Tips or Restaurants:
Sotto Sopra in Ginestra was excellent. No English was spoken but we survived just fine with our broken Italian and knowledge of the items. The food was very good and reasonable. While we didn't go at night, we understood their fish is quite good. We enjoyed Il Focolare in Montagnana, typical Tuscan food and a small restaurant near Baccaiano called Il Molino.
Check In Out:
The owners were waiting for us and were very helpful. In fact, they gave us directions to the property and led us point by point until we got there. Lovely people.

Bill , May

Overall:
A very lovely property with beautiful grounds and views. The best meal of the week was the one Alessandro fixed for us. Excellent!
Enjoyed Most:
It looked just like the Tuscan pictures I had imagined. It was beautiful!
Surrounding Area:
The small towns and local restaurants were great. Il Focolare was excellent. Not sure if that is spelled correctly.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was 1 mile away. Yes you could walk, but it was fairly cold so we did not.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house had everything we needed. More towels would have been nice as washing them mid-week was difficult because it was so cold. 20's at night and 40's in the day and a little windy. There was of course no dryer.
Directions:
The easiest place to find all week.

Michele, November

Overall:
The owners of this property really go out of their way to make this place an experience for you. This rental property is very well taken care of.
Enjoyed Most:
The family history and art in the home. We also really loved the pool area. It is surrounded by olive trees!
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing
Surrounding Area:
All of the views. The villa is in an area full of vineyards and olive orchards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You could probably walk to Montagnana, but it would be quite a walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Il Focolare was great! The have a nice selection of wines. The best eating experience by far was with the owner. Be sure to hire him to cook one night. His carpaccio and Chiana meat are to die for! For future renters, I would suggest going to the COOP in Montespertoli to shop. They are closed on Sundays!
Directions:
Part of the road is unpaved getting to the property, which adds to the charm!

Corinne, October

Overall:
Please don't rent this place ... you may be taking a week when I want to go! Seriously this is an excellent place and the owners are so friendly that this is a jewel of a place in an incredible setting. The pictures just don't do it justice... if you were thinking of going to Tuscany this is the place to go!
Enjoyed Most:
The location. Its beauty. The pictures did not do it justice!
Enjoyed Least:
Can't say we really disliked anything about the property and we can't wait to return.
Surrounding Area:
Quite a location, and only 15-20 min. from downtown Florence. It was the best of both worlds!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was the nearest main town about 10 min by car. Montagnana, a smaller town, was about 2 min by car from the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
You do not need to bring anything... while we were there we purchased a washing machine detergent and you may need a few items such as that - but the villa is fully equipped.
Directions:
Follow them as written and you can't go wrong!
Check In Out:
The owner was so friendly and accommodating. His wife is wonderful and helpful to the guests.

Mark, October

Overall:
The owners were very helpful in recommending wineries and sights. The dinner at the villa was incredible.
Enjoyed Most:
Outside areas great for dining and relaxing. Kitchen well organized for cooking. Private baths for each bedroom.
Surrounding Area:
Close proximity to sightseeing. Scenic vistas from terraces.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Closest small town, Montagnana, not within walking distance, short drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed cooking at the villa. Fun shopping at the alimentari and markets. Definitely recommend having the owners cook a meal during your stay.
Directions:
The directions were very good. There is construction on the Fi-Li-Pi superstrada, so only difficulty was getting out of Florence.

Cynthia , September

Overall:
If you want a place with a beautiful view - on a hill - with olive trees on one side and grapes on the other, then this is an outstanding villa for you. Image sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee or tea with the morning sun just rising and the church bells sounding in the background. At night the scene changes to a glass of wine in your hand with a full moon and a clear sky and you attempt to count the stars. A beautiful location for visiting Florence or just to tour the Tuscany region - an outstanding property. It was truly a great experience and we would recommend this villa to anyone interested in the Tuscany area.
Enjoyed Most:
The location to Florence but yet we were out in the country. The views were also very good. We also enjoyed having the owners come and make us feel welcome. And last but not least - the home cooked meal was outstanding.
Enjoyed Least:
The villa was way above our expectation - we really had no complaints to voice.
Surrounding Area:
They were just beginning to pick grapes so that was pretty neat. We also enjoyed our trips to the little grocery store in a town about 3 miles away. Tuscany is beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I cannot remember the name - it was within walking distance but we near walked. After dinner many local folks in area would be walking the roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
This house has it all - we did bring some extra things like dish towels but they were not needed. The house was fully equipped. You will definitely need a car to get around the area. At the time of the year we were in Tuscany, we were in shorts, so we didn't need a lot of different clothes.
Directions:
One thing that might help is a good local map. We did have some trouble finding the COOP in one of the close by cities but that was not a big deal.
Check In Out:
The owners were there to check us in and the night prior to us leaving. A nice touch.

Jill And Phil, September

Overall:
We will definitely return and recommend to all.
Enjoyed Most:
We were a party of six good friends who love to sip wine, cook and eat good food, and generally enjoy the good life. The Villa was perfect for us! The views were spectacular, the hosts were gracious, the villa was clean and wonderfully decorated, the kitchen had every type of dish, pot, tray and utensil that a chef could desire, the yard was beautifully manicured and well designed for outdoor enjoyment. We spent most of our time outside....everything exceeded our expectations!
Enjoyed Least:
Umm....can't really think of anything.
Surrounding Area:
The landscape and views are classic Tuscany. A daily morning drive to Montespertoli for cappuccino became a ritual. The locals were all so gracious and helpful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was closest, an easy drive or a long walk. Great convenience store there. Montespertoli was the closest "larger" town.
Tips or Restaurants:
We found a great seafood restaurant in Montespertoli, which seemed like a favorite of the locals.....Didn't seem like much from the outside...you had to walk around the back of the building to enter. The food was fabulous as was the owner and chef. We cooked most meals in the well equipped kitchen with produce purchased from the COOP in Montespertoli.

Nearby Events or Locales:
It was possible to walk to Montagnana, but we didn't do it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Talk to the owner early and get recommendations on things to do in the area. Ask the owner to cook a meal for you. Fantastic.

The property was beautiful; very well maintained.
Enjoyed Least:
Mosquitoes
Surrounding Area:
Everything!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana. Yes, you could walk there.
Tips or Restaurants:
We cooked most nights, and we had Alessandro cook for us the first night. It was outstanding! The little alimentari-grocery store in town was great. The owner was a delight! Do bring a cell phone with you, as there is no phone at the house. We traveled with my mother who is 75 years old. You never know if you have an accident what you would do without a phone on hand.

Randee, August

Overall:
The location was perfect for day trips and the views from the villa were magnificent. The property was "a home" and the owners were proud to share their home with us.
Enjoyed Most:
It exceeded our expectations in every way. Renata and Alessandro were great hosts. They spent two hours with us on our first Sunday orienting us to the area and making suggestions for day trips.
Enjoyed Least:
A little warm at night but it was July, after all.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana is a great, small town with a friendly feel.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa was so well equipped that it is tough to recommend anything. We had no issues with mosquitoes. Don't miss Il Focolare, a local restaurant in Montagnana.

Doug, July

Enjoyed Most:
The house was in excellent shape. It was clean, with nice furniture and a TV in every bedroom. Each bedroom had a bathroom! Great outside dining area and the pool was clean and refreshing after a long day in the countryside. The meal that Alessandro and Renata cooked for us one night was truly the best meal we had in Italy! There were plenty of leftovers for later in the week as well!
Enjoyed Least:
One night the next door neighbors left their dogs out all night and they barked constantly.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana, within a 5 minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Montagnana has two nice restaurants: Il Focolone and a pizzeria. We went to Il Focolone two nights and their food was very good. We did not go to the pizza place but based on its popularity it seems like it is very good!
Directions:
Ensure people use the directions on the check in sheet. Michelin was a bit off!
Check In Out:
Alessandro was there when we arrived and checked us in quickly and gave us a good overview of the home and how to use the keys.

Overall:
It is truly what my vision of a Tuscan Villa should be. My family all loved it and praised me for booking it! We'll all remember our days under the Tuscan Sun!
Enjoyed Most:
My husband loved the fully equipped kitchen. He could go to the local mercato and then come back and cook; it was the realization of a dream for him. My daughter loved the pool and the outside patio area. I loved all the beautiful art and antiques, along with the wonderful shuttered windows which gave the house a true Toscana style!
Enjoyed Least:
The only thing we really didn't care for were the barking dogs next door.
Surrounding Area:
The property is centrally located, between Firenze to the north, the Strada del Vini S222 in Chianti and the Hill towns of Volterra and San Gimignano.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana is the nearest, we drove since end of June was fairly warm but you could walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Try the Winery In Badia a Passignano, we had a wonderful lunch there and the wine is excellent. We tried the fixed menu with wine pairings, it was meraviglioso! Alessandro is a great cook; make sure you arrange for him to make a dinner one evening.

Darlene, July

Overall:
Traveling to another country with two teenagers can be a bit frightening, especially when one has no real experience with the language and no real idea of the property aside from website testimonials. But everything that had been written about Poggio Antico turned out to be true. Our week there was pure pleasure and we would go back tomorrow.
Enjoyed Most:
Poggio Antico exceeded our expectations in every way. It is nestled in the most beautiful Tuscan landscape (the views are incredible) while being close enough to the major sites for easy day tripping. Renata and Alessandro, who are kind and charming, have taken great care to tend the lovely grounds and make the house comfortable and well stocked with essentials. They prepared a wonderful dinner for us, the best we had while in Italy. Our family of four spent many happy afternoons and evenings poolside at Poggio Antico, and we miss it already.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area is beautiful with olive trees and vineyards. It was restful to simply sit on the terrace and look at the view, but we also enjoyed venturing out to discover the nearby hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was walkable but we usually drove. There was a little grocery store with essentials, a pizza place, and a wonderful restaurant, Il Foccalore, where we had a great dinner outside.
Tips or Restaurants:
Our children had the most fun in the pool with a simple ball we bought in a nearby town and a deck of cards we played every night on the terrace. The house was equipped with nearly everything we needed except for food, which we bought Saturday evening at the Coop supermarket in Montespertoli. Come prepared with a grocery list as it was near closing time and a bit overwhelming when we went. We enjoyed an authentic Italian lunch in Florence at Trattoria Mario near the San Lorenzo Market, but the very best food was prepared by Alessandro.
Directions:
We had no problems getting there.

Brenda , June

Overall:
When we all talked of our trip after is was over and were asked what was the favorite part, without exception, all said "the villa."
Enjoyed Most:
The view was incredible, but our hosts were the best. Everything about Poggio Antico was even more than we expected.
Surrounding Area:
It was so accessible from the different points in the region. The restaurant, coffee shop, and grocery store in Montagnana were exceptionally nice. The people were fun to be around.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was the nearest town. I would not say it is within walking distance, especially after a day of walking around Florence or Pisa or some of the other day trips, but it is a 2 minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
We found that most of the items that you suggested we bring were not needed, as most things that we needed were provided for us. There was no laundry or dishwasher detergent. The local restaurant in Montgnana and the one that our hosts recommended in Montesperstoli were both excellent.
Check In Out:
We were about an hour late getting to Poggio Antico because of a 4 hour weather delay with the airline, but it proved to be no problem.

Enjoyed Most:
It is hard to decide what was nicer - the property or the owners. Take advantage if the culinary skills of the owner, and bring a good attitude.
Enjoyed Least:
We had to leave.
Surrounding Area:
It was perfectly located to allow us to visit all of the places that we wanted to see.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa provides everything necessary. The restaurant in Montagna is superb-- Florentine steak was amazing. The COOP grocery store in Montespertoli has everything. The local store in Montagna is a fine for fresh bread, meats and cheeses

Laurence, May

Overall:
I didn't want to leave and can't wait to return.
Enjoyed Most:
The property has the most beautiful patio off the kitchen. We had breakfast there each morning. Some of it is covered and some open, but each area is comfortable, attractive and overlooks the gorgeous countryside.
Enjoyed Least:
I would have liked a clothes dryer. There is none. Bath towels are standard size. I prefer larger ones. They only offer two bath and hand towels per bathroom. Not enough for a week without washing them. They don't seem to supply washcloths for the bath, but we managed to do without. I noticed this elsewhere in Italy, also.
Surrounding Area:
The "postcard" beauty of surrounding area is breathtaking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana is the nearest town. I guess it would be walkable, however, we drove.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are two restaurants in Montagnana. One is more casual, more of a pizzeria style. Family-oriented. Good selection of very good food. The other is a very nice restaurant. Attractive decor and wonderful food, except I don't recommend the veal. Everything else we tried was great.
Check In Out:
It went very smoothly. No difficulty at all.

Kathy, May

Enjoyed Most:
The view. The way the home was decorated. You felt like you had come home.
Enjoyed Least:
Neighbor's barking dog. It wasn't that bad though.
Surrounding Area:
We were close to the major freeway FI PI LI, which gave us pretty fast access to where ever we wanted to go.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana is walkable if you have no disabilities.
Tips or Restaurants:
You must have a meal prepared by the owners. What a wonderful treat. They are delightful people. Go in May when you can use the pool.
Directions:
The road is now paved, it is not a dirt road. Drive carefully or you could be run of the road.

Shirley, April

Overall:
Poggio Antico is almost too good to be true. It is ideally located to explore all the towns and countryside of Tuscany, especially Florence. The villa is beautifully furnished, more richly than one would expect in this price range, and the beds are spacious by European standards and comfortable. Two of the bathrooms are somewhat cramped but no more so than is typical in Europe and the master bath is large by that standard. The kitchen is well equiped, there is a nice patio with both sunny and shaded areas, and the gardens are very attractive. The lovely view of the surrounding valley is best from the second floor because the villa is surrounded by olive trees and the neighbor's house, which provides some privacy. There is a pool that looks inviting but we were there in mid-April when the days were pleasant but the nights quite cool. Heat is available in the villa but we did not use it due to the very high cost that prevails throughout Tuscany. There is a nice fireplace and the owners provided an ample supply of firewood for free. Sitting around the fire in the evening drinking the wine we purchased that day became an enjoyable part of our stay. The owners, Alesandro and Renata, were very friendly and helpful, and provided lots of valuable information. Alesandro does not speak English but Renata speaks it well. Alesandro is a gourmet chef and you must have him cook for you early in your stay. Trust me, it may be the best meal you have in Tuscany and that is saying a lot. On the whole, I highly recommend this villa.
Enjoyed Least:
Some past reviewers have commented on the barking of the neighbor's dogs and they did bark occasionally, but we did not find that to be a significant annoyance. Everyone in Tuscany owns a dog it seems - its part of the local flavor.
Directions:
We got lost trying to find the place, as have others according to past reviews, but the directions are apparently correct. The problem seems to be the general difficulty navigating unfamiliar Tuscan roads. Italy has produced some of the greatest painters the world has known but Italians seem to have trouble painting a decent road sign!

Overall:
Read the little guide that Rentvillas gives you...it has a lot of helpful information about driving rules and surprises, supermarket 'etiquette', and other tips. Thank you, Rentvillas, for all your help! The travel advisors are very informative and a great resource for making your stay easy and memorable.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the beautiful view and the great location. The villa met and exceeded our expectations. Both the inside of the villa with it's beautiful antiques and artwork and the outside garden, view, and swimming pool were beyond what we imagined. The kitchen was well-stocked with dishes and utensils if you like to cook! The owners were friendly and generous and made us feel at home. Be sure to have the owner cook for you...he's a wonderful chef and sommelier. It was some of the best food we had in Italy...probably the best meal we had...ever!
Enjoyed Least:
Everything about the villa was wonderful! We loved every minute of it! There are two main highways, the superstrada and the autostrada. When you are driving from Florence, look for the Fi-Pi-Li. That's the right road.
Surrounding Area:
We could have stayed on the villa's patio the whole time to look at the view! But, we did get out and do some sightseeing. We went to San Gimignano, Verrazano Winery, Florence, Greve in Chianti. The winery that is right down the street has wonderful wine and olive oil.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There is a small town about 5 minutes down the road by car. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to it. There's a gas station, small coffee shop, and an amazing restaurant, Il Focolare. We ate there two nights...the food was amazing and the staff was helpful and generous. Another town definitely not touristy!, further down the road about 20 minutes was called Montagnana that has a supermarket and a handful of shops. There's a pizza place called Speedy Gonzales!! that has decent, cheap pizza. You may want to bring your camera to town. Both times we went to the town there were local happenings...a beauty contest and a bike race!
Tips or Restaurants:
Be sure to bring bug repellant there were lots of mosquitoes when we were visiting in September, anti-itch cream for the bites or you'll be itchy! Next time, I'd even bring some citronella candles. In the house are little plug-in bug devices...they look like little round disks. They sell the bug repelllant chips at the store.

Amy, September

Overall:
We thought it was a great value.
Enjoyed Most:
The views at the house were beautiful. The setting of the house and the pool arrangement were cleverly done to maximize limited space. The little patio off the kitchen with the table was charming and a delightful place to take all of our meals. The location was fabulous. While it was quaint - away from it all, and just what you would think of for a real Tuscan vacation - it was still close enough to highways to get to major sightseeing relatively quickly. This has been a real problem for us on other vacations in this area. The house is beautifully furnished and quite spacious. Really lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
I am a light sleeper and the neighbor and his dogs were noisy. He leaves the house in the middle of the night or is he coming back from somewhere? and he and his dogs make a huge ruckus in the process! Also, we didn't think that the fact that there is no phone at the property was going to be an issue until we wrecked our car in the nearby village!
Surrounding Area:
It was easy to get to other places. We took day trips to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Greve and Pisa. And the people everywhere were charming and very nice to us.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana is the nearest small town. You can walk there, but the road is dusty and steep and you'd need a flashlight at night. It takes about 35 minutes at a brisk clip.
Tips or Restaurants:
Only because we had an accident, make sure to rent a cell phone. The local restaurant which is supposedly good was closed for the month of August as are many places during that time in Italy, but a castle, which is actually within walking distance, serves a fixed menu dinner that is quite good. The setting is beautiful - you eat outside on the terrace and the service is great. Don't eat everything on your plate or they'll only bring you more! We bought toilet tissue before arriving because we've found a need for that in other places, but there was plenty of it - on the other hand, there was no dish detergent or laundry detergent. Do an inventory before you do any major shopping.
Check In Out:
Very easy - the owner was there waiting for us.

Anna, August

Enjoyed Most:
Excellent kitchen and outside dining area. Very nice patio area. The olive trees and being situated in the vineyard. The owners were very pleasant and accommodating.
Enjoyed Least:
Lots of barking dogs and early morning farm traffic. Also wondered about the elaborate security on doors.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful countryside, small towns in the area, easily accessible to highways.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montegnana. A short drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring pool toys! Unfortunately we were there when many restaurants were closed. The Satellite TV wasn't working when we arrived, but it was repaired in a day or so, but it was difficult to figure out. Perhaps a manual on the use of it would be helpful.
Check In Out:
The owner was kind enough to let us in early so that we could refrigerate our food, etc.

Ann, August

Overall:
The owners were wonderful. It is a great help to speak Italian, but not necessary. You will enjoy the trip more the more you are able to understand.
Enjoyed Most:
Renting this villa was a wonderful experience!! I can't pick one thing in particular. The children enjoyed the pool, my 84 year old father-in-law enjoyed the Satellite TV, and my husband and I enjoyed the entire experience from the views to the home cooked meal by the owners, it all was so incredible.
Enjoyed Least:
NOTHING -- we loved the place and would go back in a heartbeat.
Surrounding Area:
The location of this villa was wonderful. We took day trips to Pisa, San Gimignano, Siena and Florence. Everything was easy to get to.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was the closet town within driving distance. We never walked, because the hill roads were too much for the children.
Tips or Restaurants:
You should definitely have the owners prepare dinner at least one night. It was one of the best meals we ever had. But make sure you do it in the early part of your stay, because they prepare so much food that you will be kicking yourself for wasting it if you wait until Thursday or Friday. We had our dinner prepared Tuesday night, and we literally got 2 more dinners out of what had been prepared.

Susan, July

Enjoyed Most:
Peaceful, attractive location of the villa, and beautiful villa and garden. The pool was a wonderful addition - we had very hot weather. The villa is very well equipped and we didn't find it lacking in anything.
Enjoyed Least:
Some members of our group were bothered by the next-door-neighbor's dog barking in the early morning.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful vistas of vineyards and villas.
Tips or Restaurants:
Street cafes in Montespertoli are fun. There are cards at the villa for a great restaurant in Vinci where we had a delicious meal. Vinci is definitely worth a visit for the views and museums. It would be helpful to tell people that the highway sign Fi-Pi-Li stands for Firenze-Pisa-Livorno, and that it is the super highway. Definitely ask the owner to prepare a home-cooked meal, and have it before the last night, because there will be delicious leftovers you will want to eat!

Anita, July

Enjoyed Most:
The setting is beautiful and the pool and outdoor spaces are very welcoming after a hot day of touring. The owners are friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
The drive to the property over dirt roads when we first arrived.
Surrounding Area:
Day trips to Florence, San Gimignano and Siena are all within a short drive. We enjoyed Montespertoli for grocery shopping, gelato, the piazza and for walking around an ordinary Italian town. In Montagnana we loved the little alimentari for quick grocery shopping and Il Focolare for dinner - a very good restaurant.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montangnana is about one and a half kilometers away. It is definitely not walking distance, especially in the heat of a Tuscan summer. About half of the distance is on a dirt road.

Larry, July

Overall:
The owners take a lot of pride in this wonderful property and it shows. We had a wonderful time. Remember to bring your insect repellent, since you will want to be outside at night, and there are mosquitoes.
Enjoyed Most:
The outside areas were wonderful as was the location. The gardens were lovely and the views were great.
Enjoyed Least:
The next door neighbors have 3 dogs. Many nights you could hear them.
Surrounding Area:
We loved exploring the small towns nearby. We made use of the small grocery stores in both nearby small towns. Gelato and cold beer were also available. The small grocery store in Montagnana has wonderful cream puffs in the mornings.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was the nearest town. You could walk if you were a walker. It was very warm and humid when we were there, so we did not walk much.
Tips or Restaurants:
The property has most everything that you need. Try the local restaurant in Montagnana Il Ficore, or something like that. Our waiter treated us to an endless supply of limoncello that was very nice. Ask Renata where to park if driving to Florence. You don't want to drive too far into town, but also don't want to be too far away and have to walk forever. Parking at the train station one day, we spent 37 Euros for the day of parking from about 10 am to 10 pm. That's really expensive.
Check In Out:
We asked to have some staple foods at the house when we arrived. A service charge of 30 Euros is charged for this. That was OK, but probably should be noted somewhere.

Carrie, June

Enjoyed Most:
It felt like you were in somebody's home and not just a rental property.
Enjoyed Least:
There was no barrier around the pool, thus making it child unfriendly. The upstairs shower was always soaking the floor no matter how hard you tried to contain the water. Our 16-month old son slipped on the floor and banged his head. Some sort of tranquilizer darts would be useful for the dogs across the street. They had a rather irritable knack of just letting me drift of to sleep and then start the bark chorus all over again
Surrounding Area:
Tranquility and the colours of the surrounding countryside.
Tips or Restaurants:
All the relevant details are kept in the house for the guests perusal. They never let us down yet!

Raymond , June

Enjoyed Most:
The location, gardens, views, atmosphere, accommodations.
Enjoyed Least:
Washing machine very slow - about 2-hour cycle.
Surrounding Area:
Scenery, lots of interesting towns and villages nearby, no traffic problems, restaurants and supermarkets all close by.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was 10 minutes away by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
An excellent gourmet butcher-deli in Greve, in the town square.

John, May

Overall:
The owners were great hosts. Alessandro does the principal cooking and he was excellent. He prepared 2 dinners for us and we had great meals. However, he speaks very little English and since I speak passable Italian we communicated just fine. If no one in your group speaks any Italian, you may have some problems if you have dinner prepared at the villa.
Enjoyed Most:
It was in excellent condition, the owners were excellent hosts, the views were superb, the short trip to Firenze was great, the proximity to the other major Tuscan towns was also very convenient.
Enjoyed Least:
We caught a cold and wet week - there was no heat, and the smell from the fireplace permeated the first floor living area.
Surrounding Area:
Being right in a working vineyard with a winery and store was wonderful. It was just what you would expect of a country Tuscany experience.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli and it was about 5 kilometers away.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you travel in Spring be prepared for the potential of cold and wet weather. We followed the weather reports for the prior two weeks which showed temps in the mid to upper 70's and we packed accordingly. We ended up with 3 days of rain and temps in the 50's to low 60's. When it finally cleared up at the end of the week, it got up to only the mid-60's.

Total visit was a 10 on a scale of 10. Our dinner with the owners on our last night there was fantastic!
Enjoyed Most:
Meticulously kept. Everything was just like it was described. No Surprises!

Surrounding Area:
The country side, vineyards, homes. A very beautiful area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was just a couple of km away. Almost every morning we walked to the local coffee bar for great espresso and conversation.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you enjoy lots of Italian food, not much variation on restaurant menus.

Enjoyed Most:
The house and view were the prefect images of Tuscany. The owners are very lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
The hot water supply was not long-lasting
Surrounding Area:

Tips or Restaurants:
Visit during the warm weather months in order to enjoy the place more, because we missed a lot of things due to the rain and cold weather.

Hala, April

Overall:
We all had a great time, I just wish I could have stayed an extra week. There is so much to see. Planning to go back soon.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, privacy and the comfort of the villa was exactly what we wanted. I loved the way the owners of the villa have it decorated inside and out. All of the bedrooms are very nice and comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
Everything was fine, I can not think of anything that was not satisfactory.
Surrounding Area:
The views, nearby restaurants and stores.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montespertoli was the nearest, not really walking distance maybe 10 minutes by car, more or less.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you plan to cook bring your favorite cooking spices or stop by a supermarket, like COOP, and buy seasoning and whatever you might need for your stay.

We are going back!
Enjoyed Most:
The views of Tuscany, the outdoor deck where we ate many meals.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room is relatively small compared to the rest of the rooms.
Surrounding Area:
The views are fantastic. One neighbor's house is next door but except for that, the land that surrounds you consists of olive tree and vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagana. Very small. There is a food store, one restaurant and a gas station. We always drove into town.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Dorando in San Gimignano is excellent. We ate there twice. Also, the restaurant in Montagana has great Bistek Florentina.
Check In Out:
If you speak German or Italian, ask for Alessandro. If you speak Italian or English, ask for Renata.

Overall:
We were all so pleased with the property. It was lovely and comfortable. Alessandro visited the property most days to check on the garden, pool, etc. They also left phone numbers in case we needed to reach them.
Enjoyed Most:
Poggio Antico was incredible---lovely and charming. We really felt like we were staying in someone's home. The views were spectacular and it was convenient to many of the small towns we wanted to visit. The rooms were very comfortable and we spent a lot of time on the patio and lounging near the pool. The owners were delightful and we enjoyed talking with them. Most of the windows in the house have screens. This is VERY unusual for villas in Italy and was a major plus for keeping out the mosquitoes.
Enjoyed Least:
Can't think of anything.
Surrounding Area:
The vistas of the Tuscan countryside were beautiful. It was a convenient location for touring.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nearest small town was Montagnana. Walkable during the day, but not at night. The town only has one restaurant open only at night and one bar. We shopped at Cerbaia, which was about a ten-minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner cooked for us three nights and the food was some of the best we had in Italy! Ask the owners for restaurant recommendations---they were very helpful. We had an excellent meal at Foccaloria in Montagnana about a mile or two from the house.
Check In Out:
Alessandro greeted us, but he does not speak much English, but his wife does. She was able to explain the appliances to us. Check in and check out went fine.

Carol Ann, September

Overall:
The owners and neighbors were warm and friendly. They gave us a lot of good advice regarding the area, and made us a wonderful meal one evening. Andrea and his wife down the street were delightful, and went out of their way to welcome us and share their wine, olive oil, figs in cognac, plum jam, tomatoes, garlic, grapes.
Enjoyed Most:
This property is more like a home than a rental property. It is beautiful, comfortable and quiet. There are fig trees, plum trees, blackberries, persimmons, hazelnuts, almonds all over the property or close by. We ate as many as possible and still could not make a dent in them! There is a winery-olive oil producer minutes away by car. You can see the sun rise, set and moon rise all from a single spot on the patio. There is a wood oven outside, and if you like to grill, this is the only way to do it.
Enjoyed Least:
We liked everything about this property.
Surrounding Area:
The people seem to be untouched by the modern world. They are friendly, trusting and helpful. We never saw a traffic jam. The small towns were great to walk around in, and there are wineries and castles within a few minutes drive.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Montagnana, but you wouldn't walk to it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Sunscreen and Woolite were useful to have. La Focolare is very close to the villa and a wonderful local restaurant.

Wendy, September

Overall:
It was a wonderful place to spend the week. It was so nice that we had trouble getting away from the pool and the leisure reading to battle the motor scooters in Florence to go see the art.
Enjoyed Most:
It was mostly very quiet, with a good view of the surrounding area. The property is kept up very well, and Alessandro and Renata were very accomodating and helpful. The pool was a godsend with the kids during the hotter days.
Enjoyed Least:
It was a bit noisy during the week as the Frescobaldi's vineyard crews were trimming the grass between the vines near the house, but what can you expect when the house is set among the vineyards and olive groves?
Surrounding Area:
Its proximity to Florence, S. Gimignano, Volterra.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was about a mile away, and it had a great restaurant, an alimentari, and a bar-tabac.
Tips or Restaurants:
Alessandro and Renata have equipped the house very well. Only thing we needed and brought was a good kitchen knife. We would also buy staples en route - pasta, olive oil, wine, canned tomatoes, veggies, cheese, toilet paper. Il Focolare in Montagana was very nice and moderately priced.
Check In Out:
Alessandro was present both at the check in and at the check out, and he came twice during the week to make sure all was well, and to maintain the pool.

Enjoyed Most:
The villa and the view are amazing. The bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen are all incredibly nice.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room is not very comfortable and there is not very much seating. Some of the appliances are tricky to use and there are no instructions available. Finally, the owners strongly request that you lock yourselves in the house at night by locking the shutters on the doors which requires several keys and several minutes to open. We were not terribly comfortable with this because it was such a fire hazard.

Absolutely beautiful views from every window. Great restaurants in all nearby towns.

Montagnana. Although the description on the Web site says that it is only 1 km away, this is inaccurate. It is slightly over 2 km and therefore, a lovely walk during the day---about 20-30 minutes but not something you would want to walk frequently or at night.
Tips or Restaurants:
Listen to the recommendations of the owners---they never steered us wrong.
Directions:
The driving directions on the Web site are incorrect. It took us about 1.5 hours to find the property once we arrived in Montagnana. The owners told us this happens almost every time renters come with directions from Rentvillas.
Check In Out:
Check-in was a breeze and the owners were extremely helpful during our stay. However, we did have a bad taste in our mouth after the check-out. The owners charged us a cleaning fee per bed and counted a queen as two beds rather than per person, as indicated on the Rentvillas Web site. Also, we asked them to come and do some extra cleaning and they ended up charging us for 10.5 hours of cleaning, which just seemed outrageous to us. In all, we ended up spending over 300 just for cleaning. Finally, we were charged almost 400 for the use of heat during out stay despite the fact that it was pretty warm and we really only used the heat (set at about 65 degrees at night.)

Overall:
After quite a bit of confusion to find the property we were delighted to no end once we arrived. It was even better than pictured and described. Although I will have to agree with the a previous renter's comment on the difficulty of the door locks. The owners were gracious and the villa and surrounding area a dream. We will definitely go back.
Enjoyed Most:
Alessandro's cooking and the outside sitting area.
Enjoyed Least:
The crazy door locks.
Surrounding Area:
Rolling hills lined with olive trees and vineyards. Beautiful autumn colored vistas.
Tips or Restaurants:
The older couple across the lane showed us their beautiful view and gave us olive oil from their trees, fresh basil, garlic and a homemade tomato sauce. We had a great meal with his gifts. Take the park and ride from Ginestra into Florence to avoid driving into Florence. We had a simple meal at the Country Restaurant in Monterspertoli. Make sure to not pack your schedule too full to enjoy downtime at the villa.

Overall:
From the minute we arrived at the gate and saw the outside of the property, I knew I had made the right choice. This was only confirmed when we entered the house and were greeted by Alessandro. The property was more than I had even hoped for. Our experience at the villa was extraordinary.
Enjoyed Most:

The friendly owners.
Surrounding Area:

The house is on a little hill surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and beautiful houses. There are olive trees and fig trees on the property. Sunsets were just magnificent. It was quiet, peaceful and charming.
Events or Locales:

We were in the heart of Chianti during harvest time and many of the small towns had festivals on the weekends.
Tips or Restaurants:

By all means use the restaurants recommended by the owners of the house. They never steered us wrong.

Overall:
Lovely place, beautiful villa, convenient location, very helpful owners.

Overall condition. Great view, nice pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of air conditioning, and too many wasps and mosquitoes. Very difficult to find the first time, needs better instructions from the nearby village.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful scenery, huge number of places to see in the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Very near Florence, Pisa, Siena etc etc, Great location

Overall:
We had everything we needed there and the house and surroundings are lovely. It was peaceful and beautiful to drive in and out of the place. The house is filled with interesting objects and wine and art. The bedrooms were very nice, roomy and convenient. The owners are so friendly and helpful. They even cooked for us a couple of times and we all enjoyed that very much.
Enjoyed Most:
The house and front and back yard are lovely. You really feel that you are in Tuscany. There is a lovely pool area in the back and a covered patio where we had many lovely meals around a big patio table. We also had a fire in the fireplace a couple of times. It was wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
We didn't like the fact that we needed to lock up the house with several locks every time we went in or out. I can understand why the owners wanted us to be cautious though. They have lovely things in the house. The house is also a good distance from some things that we wanted to see, so we spent a lot of time in the car.
Surrounding Area:
The property is located within reasonable distance from many many wonderful towns and sites. We left just about every day to go in every direction to see something new and interesting.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We went to some of the best restaurants in the world nearby. We went to vineyards written up in international magazines; we went to art galleries; some of us shopped at famous designer outlets; we visited medieval towns. We also had a great time visiting the very small towns nearby for grocery shopping and daily bread and fruit. It was wonderful!
Tips or Restaurants:
We ate in many many great restaurants, from Florence to Siena. In the town nearby (Montepostoli?), we ate in Artevino a couple of times and it was expensive, but excellent.
