Customer Reviews

Overall:
We had a lovely time. We primarily used the villa as a stopping point for lots of day trips around the area - and didn't spend many days just relaxing here. It would be nice to take advantage of the surroundings and amenities.
Enjoyed Most:
Location. The outside pool and tennis court areas are really great. It would be fantastic in the summer months as a relaxing retreat.
Enjoyed Least:
It was a bit tricky to find and a bit isolated. We had some confusion related to the heat in the villa - and it was cold! We got it corrected, but it was a challenge.
Surrounding Area:
Close to Lucca. Near Florence for day trips. We spent 2 days in the Cinque Terre.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orentano is the town. Technically you could walk here - but in reality, no. The road for the villa is long, narrow and very muddy.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you ask questions and understand how to operate the heat if you are here in the fall and winter months. English is a bit of a challenge for communication.
Directions:
We drove in from the opposite direction than your instructions - and had some issues finding the villa. Once we got on the correct side of town (Orentano), we were able to find it. The GPS coordinates didn't really help (we ended up in a sunflower field our first try).

J. Elizabeth, October

Overall:
The villa was perfect and the grounds were just beautiful, especially the pool area. It was very nice to have the tennis courts there, as well as the equipment available to play. Even though the 3 villas were attached it felt totally private the way it was set up and was very peaceful
Enjoyed Most:
The peace and quiet of the property.
Enjoyed Least:
It wasn't easy to find when we first arrived.
Surrounding Area:
There was a great restaurant in the town that we went to 3 times in a week.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orentano was the town we were in. We didn't try to walk into town but we could have.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant we loved was Da Benito in Orentano.
Directions:
We didn't have a GPS. It would have been helpful. We called the contact person and she met us in town very quickly and we followed her to the property.

Elise, September

Overall:
We loved the villa!
Enjoyed Most:
Hard to pinpoint. We loved everything.
Enjoyed Least:
Except for the early morning barking, it was as quiet as a church!
Surrounding Area:
Loved all of Tuscany. We went to Florence, Lucca, Siena and to the beach. Doesn't get any better than that!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucca. That was our last place to go, and it was the best place to go. We adored Lucca!
Tips or Restaurants:
Luckily we read what other people had written and did bring baggies. However, I strongly suggest before you drive to the Conad store for food, check out your supplies at the villa. We bought salt and pepper, only to come back and see there were 2 others of both. And we bought sugar, not knowing it was there already. That's about it. Remember your bathing suit. It was freezing, but the Jacuzzi was nice for sore legs and backs.
Directions:
We had a problem and had to have the owner come meet us in town to lead us in.

Rita, October

Overall:
The villa was everything we could have wanted and more. The kitchen was fully equipped and we enjoyed several fabulous homecooked Italian meals. The villa and surronding property was exactly as shown in the pictures on the web site. We loved every minute of our experience there.
Enjoyed Most:
Comfort, quiet, fully equipped, beautiful surroundings but most of all close to all the wonderful sights of Tuscany.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing! Some complained about mosquitoes, but bring spray and forget the skin lotion - mosquitoes love it! We were in a forest, so you can expect bugs!
Surrounding Area:
The villa is close to the town and grocery shopping. We spent every day driving from one sight to another: Lucca, Florence, down to the Chianti Region, Siena and back to a wonderful dinner at the villa. Couldn't ask for a more centrally located spot!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Altopascio was the closest town that we went to, but we didn't try walking. Actually we were too interested in quickly purchasing our wonderful produce, pasta and the other items we needed, like wine for dinner--too much to carry.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoy! The owner was very friendly, gracious and met us at the property. She showed us the property and left us to find our way around. We had a wonderful time!
Directions:
We didn't receive the driving directions and my brand new GPS was not cooperating. We called the owner after searching for quite a while and they met us to bring us in. There is a sign on the road, but it is so small that no one could ever find it.
Check In Out:
Once we found the villa the experience was wonderful! Check out took about 5 minutes.

Talle, October

Overall:
Good.
Enjoyed Most:
The swimming pool was wonderful. and the living room. The gift basket upon arrival was also very nice.
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitoes, the mattresses, and the smoke from agricultural burning.
Surrounding Area:
The small hill towns--Monte Carlo, Montecatini Alto. Liked being near two small towns--Orentano and Altopascio.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Your could walk to Orentano. Yes
Tips or Restaurants:
Need new screens on the windows to keep out the mosquitoes. Even though we brought repellent with us, it wasn't enough to keep them from biting.
Directions:
The turnoff sign with the arrow needs to be much bigger. We missed it twice.

Linda, September

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
Outside area.
Enjoyed Least:
You do need a rental car to stay there.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orentano is the nearest town and is within walking distance.

ann mari fjellstad, July

Overall:
We a wonderful Tuscany experience at La Corte 3. The owners and the staff treated us like family. The property is very well maintained and is very clean. The yard tennis court and grilling area made our family enjoy the time together early in the morning and during the evenings.
Enjoyed Most:
Charming yet clean and well updated.
Enjoyed Least:
Window screens need to be improved.
Surrounding Area:
Easy highway access in a secluded area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orentano and Altopascio were the two closest towns. Walking with children is not possible. There is a little dirt road that connects the property to the main road and our GPS did not have the address but the owners made it super easy to find the property. The two towns offer everything you need.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't forget to visit Collodi Pinnochio town also try Stefannini in Monte Carlo. Ask the owners for recommendations. If you know Italian talk to the gardener he is a very kind gentleman.
Directions:
Call after you pass the toll and enter Altopascio. GPS did not have the exact address but it was easy to find.

Sam, April

Overall:
Most satisfactory very peaceful with beautiful grounds.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and amenities which included food supplies and firewood. The owners were pleasant and easy to deal with.
Enjoyed Least:
Needs to be better marked for turn-off. The mattresses were uncomfortable, and the unit was freezing cold the 1st night. We were not aware we had to pay for the heating.
Surrounding Area:
Proximity to town of Orentano and Altopascio which is where we could get on the Autostrada to visit other parts of Tuscany and Italy. Enjoyed Thursday market in Altopascio.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We walked to Orentano and had our best meal there at Da Benito's - but next time will make a reservation.
Tips or Restaurants:
Again, Da Benito in Orentano. Also the restaurant in Altopascio called La Loggia. Future renters should specify if they'd like the food supply as written on RentVillas info page. Again, be aware of the heating charge and mattress situation.
Directions:
No GPS but missed the turn-off 1st time and went to wrong house 1st time. Walked to town on the dirt path which was too long and home on road which was quicker.

Chris, April

Overall:
It was really a truly wonderful, relaxing family holiday experience to stay at La Corte. The villa was extremely comfortable and the grounds-garden were truly magnificent. It was also a great base for trips to beautiful areas in the Tuscan region.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool area, tennis courts and gardens are beautifully done. Due to the way the property is set up, you have a huge amount of privacy, even though there are others sharing the facilities.
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitoes around the pool area targeted our three children, who liked to play around the edges of the water. This was not a problem so much for adults but mainly occurred because the kids hung out on the edge of the forest.
Surrounding Area:
Orentano was walking distance even with 3 kids and had a few very reasonably priced restaurants that offered good food. Altopascio was a few minutes drive away and had a bakery to die for with the most amazing foccacia we have ever tasted and an equally good coffee shop next door.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orentano was within walking distance the youngest of our three kids coped fine and she is 6. There is a path through the woods - bring the mosquito spray - or you can take the road, but be careful of the traffic.
Tips or Restaurants:
Mosquito repellent for outdoors is a must. Be aware that if you are going to eat in Orentano, none of the restaurants gets going until 7:00pm at the earliest. We had a two week stay in Italy and only took hand luggage with us for a family of 5 but this was fine as the villa provided everything we could have needed and the welcome foods were very generous.
Check In Out:
The owners were very kind, helpful and professional. Thorough, but not intrusive.

Samantha, August

Overall:
Very relaxing.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool and the nearby forest.
Enjoyed Least:
The lack of an oven.
Surrounding Area:
Accessible to a wide range of towns and places to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orentano was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
We really enjoyed the self-organised wine and olive oil tour that is prepared by the government of Toscana. The information is available at the tourist offices. We also had a great time in Volterra, Montecarlo and Bute. And we had a wonderful day exploring the Cinque Terre.
Directions:
We did have a GPS, however, we did not have the coordinates and we found it difficult to find, as the road was not well signposted.
Check In Out:
I was unaware that we would need to pay for cleaning. Editor's Note: The final cleaning is listed on the property page, as well as the voucher.

Andrew, June

Overall:
Extremely positive.
Enjoyed Most:
Very luxurious, peaceful and private, but still within 5 minutes of the autostrada.
Enjoyed Least:
No wireless internet!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
There was a nice trail through the woods to Orentano, or along the road.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you have at least one meal at de Benito in Orentano.

John, June

Overall:
We had a great relaxing holiday.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool and tennis court, outside eating area.
Enjoyed Least:
As the people who showed us the property spoke no English, having simple instructions for using appliances in English would have been helpful. Editor's Note: The owner speaks fluent English, and her number is posted in several places in the unit. She confirmed that there is a House Book in English.
Surrounding Area:
Walking into Orentano to buy bread in the mornings or for an ice cream in the afternoons.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We walked into Orentano at least once a day.
Check In Out:
The people we met with were very friendly and helpful to the extent they could be without speaking English. We managed using our Italian book and a bit of charades.

Carolyn, June

Enjoyed Most:
The property was beautiful and very well maintained. The villa was very comfortable for our family.
Enjoyed Least:
The towels in the bathroom could have been nicer. Towels for the pool were not provided; however, we asked and they did give us some.Editor's Note: Upon arrival, the owner asks how many towels are needed. You just need to request towels for the pool. January 2010.
Surrounding Area:
Great location to the highway and the tourist sites that we visited. Local towns were nice.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orentano. We did not walk, but you could have. The long gravel driveway made the walk a bit long.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bug spray for the mosquitoes.
Check In Out:
Easy and lovely owners.

Lucy TVL AGT, August

Enjoyed Most:
It was nicely appointed, the rooms are large and the garden is very pretty. It is also conveniently located, close to Pisa and 30 minutes from Florence. The landlady was there to welcome us and explained everything very well. She was very nice and professional.
Enjoyed Least:
There was a sewer smell coming out of a drain outside the living room door and the master bedroom. There was not enough light in the rooms. There was no clothes dryer and there was no telephone hook up at all.
Surrounding Area:
Very good food in Orentano
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orentano, yes but we drove. We went to dinner twice and to mass on Sunday. The people were very nice and friendly.
Tips or Restaurants:
I do not remember the name of the restaurant, but I am pretty sure it is the only one on the road that leads to the church.

Silvia, August

Overall:
The property was superb, and the location excellent for exploring northern Italy, and as far south as Siena. The owner and host were really nice and made us feel at home, starting with the fresh local bread the morning after we arrived. The hosts English wasn't good, about the same as our Italian, but we had great fun trying to communicate. Rooms had plenty of space and were well furnished, and we felt we had plenty of room for 5 of us. The pool, although a bit cold, and the tennis court, were great for unwinding after a day out. Although the BBQ was great, the kitchen facilities were limited, but this didn't really cause us a problem. The booking was easy and efficient, and when we go back to Italy, Rentvillas will be the first site i check out.
Enjoyed Least:
Only gripe was that the Satellite TV only picked up German and Italian channels, although attempts were made to fix this, but to no success.
Surrounding Area:
The nearest village had an excellent, great value, pizzeria, and the local bread was exceptional. Supermarkets nearby made self-catering easy.

Andrew, September

Overall:
The owner brought us wine, a salami, and a terrific coffeecake--very sweet. The 3 villas in the complex are attached to each other, so it is not completely private. Also the owner's grandchildren use the pool, which further reduces privacy. The pool is not heated, but the warm weather makes it fairly comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was fairly close to the Autostrada and the villa was situated on a lovely property. The livingroom in Unit 3 was beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were rather hard and uncomfortable.
Surrounding Area:
The Tuscany area is beautiful and there were many cities--Lucca, Siena, San Gimingano--that were within driving distance from the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is between Oretano and Alta Pascio. It is NOT within walking distance to any town.
Tips or Restaurants:
The best restaurant we ate in was Silvio's in Monte Carlo. The owner is friendly with the villa owner and the food was wonderful and the atmosphere VERY authentic.

Doreen, July

Overall:
Beautiful villa and gardens. The owners were wonderful. They gave us welcoming gifts of wine and biscotti on Saturday afternoon, and returned Sunday morning with fresh bread and a fruit tart from a local bakery. This place totally met our expectations!
Enjoyed Most:
The location was perfect for us. The pool was wonderful to come home to in the evening-everything was very clean, including the bathrooms. Lots of room for our family of 4. Very peaceful and relaxing.
Enjoyed Least:
We only had 1 small problem. No water one morning. I called Giuseppe and he was there within the hour to fix the problem (something was wrong with the pump for the well). Only other problem was some dogs barking somewhere at night.
Surrounding Area:
It was not a touristy area, which we appreciated. . People were friendly in both Orentano and Altopascio, but not much English spoken. Bring a phrase book! We had a flat tire on our last day in Altopascio and at least 10 locals stopped to see if we needed help! Lucca is only about 10 miles away and was a beautiful town. Florence is also within an hour's drive.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orentano and Altopascio are nice, but not really much to see. We did go to a flea market in Altopascio which was fun. Lucca is not far and very interesting town--we also drove to La Spezia and took train to Cinque Terre, besides day trips to Florence, Siena, Pisa, and Monteriggioni.
Tips or Restaurants:
We had dinner at a nice casual restaurant in Orentano--Ragno D'Oro I think it was called. Inexpensive and delicious, and friendly family run place.

Cindy, June

Overall:
The weather was not conducive to full enjoyment - and the rain one day wet all the firewood so the apartment was cold. It is an enchanting layout and the people who met us were quite helpfull. Wish we could have been there in September as originally planned.
Enjoyed Most:
The privacy, the fireplace, nice kitchen and bathrooms
Enjoyed Least:
The road leading to the property was full of chuck holes and was very difficult to go out and return. The village was not within walking distance at that time of year. Never enough hot water.
Surrounding Area:
All of the area - the woods and the little towns were quite nice. Really a long way to Lucca and the traffic was horrible.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We investigated Lucca and Pisa as well as Florence.

Robert, December

Overall:
The villa is beautiful, recently renovated with both antique and newer furniture.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! The bathrooms are fabulous, the owner very accomodating and friendly. He could not do enough to make sure our stay was comfortable. The pool is very refreshing, although the hot tub is not hot, the grounds are not quite finished but will be stunning when they are. A big bonus: screens on all the windows!
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen is a bit under equipped, however, we were able to prepare some wonderful meals using the available tools. The kitchen itself however is very spacious and even has a dishwasher!
Surrounding Area:
The villa is centrally located, easy day trips to Florence, Pisa, Siena and the coast. The countryside is breathtaking, the little town of Altopasio is terrific, and the best gelato in all of Italy (believe me, we had a nine year old with us and we tried them all!) can be found at Rino and Sergios. Orentano is a short walk away but we preferred to drive the 3 miles to Altopasio.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We went everywhere, Florence is only 45 minutes away by car, a great town called Montecatini Alto is only 15 minutes away using the Autostrada, we also visited Lucca and Pisa as well as Forte de Marme, the Italian Rivera.
Tips or Restaurants:
Skip the IperCoop for grocery's, think Costco the day before Christmas. There is a great store called Conad in Altopascio that carries everything you will need. Try using the local markets, you cannot get produce any fresher. Benito's Trattoria in Orentano is excellant and we loved Rino and Sergio's for coffee, pastries and gelato. Il Torre in Montecatini Alto is one of our favorites for lunch, we never made it there for dinner.

Ann, June

Overall:
My friends and I enjoyed this property immensely and were especially delighted with our hosts, who invited us to be their guests for dinner at a wonderful local restaurant and gave us welcoming gifts and some fresh fruit and ice cream the night before we left.
Enjoyed Least:
Our only negative was that one bedroom had an uncomfortable sofa bed and no curtains on the windows. Other than that, everything was great.

Donald B, June

Overall:
The villa was tastfully decorated with a wonderful character. It was very recently done so everything was new. The owner of the property was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The huge windows and the sunrise through the windows.
Enjoyed Least:
The lighting - even when the sun appeared, the unit was still a bit dark.
Surrounding Area:
At the time of our stay, the grounds were still being finished, I think the gardens will be quite nice when they are completed.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was quite quaint. Some of the best ice cream can be found there. A bit further on, there were flower markets and the Pinochhio village for the children.
Tips or Restaurants:
The website and the information received from Rentvillas was a bit misleading. There is no phone at the villa in which you can receive calls. The number given is for the office of Corte Medicino. We had cell phones for our use, but while in the villa and on in the garden, the reception was poor, if not non existent until we approached the end of the road.
