Customer Reviews

Overall:
It was a most wonderful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners are the most gracious, the most helpful, couple.
Surrounding Area:
The wineres are the best in that area. The town of Orvieto was absolutely breathtaking.
Tips or Restaurants:
I think what RentVillas gave was as good as it gets.
Directions:
Ee did use a GPS; it was extremely helpful, not only to get the property, but to get to many of the restaurants and sites.
Check In Out:
It went as smoothly as possible.

Bernie , May

Overall:
A true delight!!
Enjoyed Most:
The ambiance and warmth of the owners as well as the lovely setting as well as the charm of the property and the tastefully decorated home. There is no single "liked most" as it all was great.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding towns, particularly Torre Alfina.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina; not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Many excellent restaurants that are all found in the guide provided.
Directions:
Easy to get to Acqua Pendente; was a little tricky finding the turn off to the road to Torre Alfina but overall directions were fine.
Check In Out:
Very easy and the welcome basket was a pleasure.

Robert, April

Overall:
The setting was idyllic and the ambiance allowed for privacy so we could relax and enjoy. Every day was an adventure, whether we stayed at the villa or went on a day trip. Hosts provided a comprehensive guide book that left no stone unturned in terms of enjoying the villa and the region. Restaurants were critiqued, itinerary for day trips were described, points of interests, hikes, and other "don't miss" features were clearly laid out.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners, Jude and Rich, attended to our needs, concerns, and questions but provided a peaceful and private vacation. Their generosity of spirit set the tone for a warm and hospitable stay from the moment we parked our car.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty and wonder of the landscape was irresistible. The lack of congestion as we traveled and visited small towns was so relaxing. The local people were warm and friendly and every experience in every town was satisfying.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina was not in walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
It is very easy living. Casual dress is very acceptable in restaurants.
Directions:
We never did see the Renault dealership in Aquapendente.
Check In Out:
We were greeted by Rich with umbrellas and assistance. Jude joined us for a welcome glass of prosecco and then a tour of the house. Very helpful. The villa was stocked with food for two days worth of meals which was very helpful since we arrived on a three day holiday weekend. Check out was uneventful.

Sylvia, April

Overall:
The villa and the surrounding property were absolutely beautiful - even better than the pictures on the site (if that's possible!). Our hostess, Jude, was very welcoming and informative. After we settled in, she poured us each a glass of prosecco and showed us around the villa the grounds explaining its history.
Enjoyed Most:
The common areas (kitchen, two living rooms, terrace) were spacious and beautifully furnished. The bedrooms were roomy and the two that my wife and I and our friends occupied had nice ensuites. The gardens were lovely - there was even a fig tree where we could pick fresh figs for breakfast every morning.
Enjoyed Least:
Its very hard to find anything that could be improved at La Capella, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a dryer on site. There were a few rainy days while we were staying there and as a result we couldn't use the outdoor close line, so it took a couple of days for our clothes to dry on the rack in the laundry room.
Surrounding Area:
The villa is surrounded by farmland forests, so it was nice peaceful. While it wasn't within walking distance of any towns, it was only a short drive to local towns and grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Orvieto is a 25 min drive away and Lake Bolsena is also close by and worth a look.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There are two small towns, both a 10 minute drive from the villa - 1) Acquapendente, which is a good size with grocery stores, a couple of excellent restaurants, and Torre Alfina, a pretty little town that was recently voted among the top 100 most picturesque towns in Italy - well worth a visit.
Tips or Restaurants:
No need to bring anything - the villa is fully equipped. In fact, our hostess Jude even had the fridge stocked with a day's worth of groceries when we arrived! One thing to think of though is that Italian electrical outlets have smaller holes; we found that the European adapter plugs we had worked in Germany but were too large to fit the Italian ones. There's a couple of excellent restaurants in Acquapendente - one in the hotel Albergo Toscana (be sure to make a reservation for dinner) another small pizzeria, Il Borgo, off the main square on a steep side street across from a hair salon with the best antipasto platter we had in all of Italy.
Directions:
Your directions were perfect - can't think of any improvements you can make. Although we didn't use a GPS to find the villa, we highly recommend using a GPS to find your way around on your daily sightseeing trips. We used the one in our rental car, but Jude, our hostess, also has one for guests' use that has numerous locations already preprogrammed into it.
Check In Out:
Check-in and check-out were both fine.

Richard, October

Overall:
Absolutely fantastic, far beyond our expectations. And what a delight to discover that our hostess was Canadian, and had lived in our City (Ottawa). Having her there was an added bonus, as she was available for advice and recommendations for local adventures and locales, while at the same time never intruding on our privacy.
Enjoyed Most:
What was not to like? From the property itself, to the accommodations (the attention to detail as far as amenities went was beyond anything we have previously experienced), to the two-day supply of food and beverages (just in case we had arrived straight from the airport and were jet-lagged) to the warm hospitality of our hostess and her dog Luna ... it was a week full of memories. Our final night, we took advantage of the opportunity offered by our hostess to have an Tuscan dinner cooked on-site by a local caterer what a terrific way to wrap things up ... and no dishes to do, either!
Enjoyed Least:
A minor point only ... a local farmer keeps a kennel of hunting dogs that tended to be noisy in the early mornings at feeding time, and sometimes at night, possibly because it was wild boar hunting season. But this was hardly the owner's fault, and just something you have to expect out in the country. We got used to it after a few nights.
Surrounding Area:
We loved being in the country, which offered splendid walking and hiking opportunities, and a welcome respite from the crowds of tourists in the more popular Tuscan sites to the north. We were pleased to have the opportunity to explore Umbria. Jude, our hostess, was kind enough to include us in a 10 km hiking experiment with a local guide with whom she is considering forming an alliance to offer guests hiking expeditions next season. We walked through countryside that we would not have otherwise discovered, with the guide providing a commentary full of historic tidbits and local colour.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The town of Acquapendente and the village of Torre Alfina were within easy driving distance. We stayed in Acquapendente the night before we took over La Capella, and found it to be a delightful place, not at all crowded with tourists, with an interesting history and excellent shopping, particularly for foodstuffs. Torre Alfina was a pretty place, but did not provide much beyond its historic interest at the time of year we were there.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Cappella is so well equipped that you really do not have to bring anything other than your clothes! The kitchen is a gourmet's delight one thing, don't do any grocery shopping until you see what Jude has laid in for you! Plan to eat out during the daytime, and cook at home at night ... Italian roads and drivers being what they are, it is much nicer to relax "at home" after dark! Acquapendente has excellent restaurants many just off the main square. Take full advantage of the tourist literature provided by the owners ... very helpful. And we highly recommend booking the local caterer for an in-house dinner do it the last night so that, while you pack and get yourself organized, a delicious meal will be being prepared in the kitchen. Even the wine is included. One other thing ... cell phones do not work on the property, but there is a a free land-line to North America, as well as free WiFi ... both work more often than not ... after all, this IS Italy, and things are a bit more casual there ... so relax, and don't worry if communications are down for half a day.

Margot, October

Overall:
Absolutely wonderful!!
Enjoyed Most:
The landscaping is beautiful and the inside of the villa is so cozy and charming!
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and charm of all the small towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Acquapendente. It is not within walking distance but still close. Orvieto is also nearby which has a train station.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa really has everything. We brought our own chargers for phones. I would recommend this.
Directions:
The directions were great! We actually missed the first exit off the autostrada but made the second one and it was pitch dark. We did not bring a GPS but used the one at the house. It was great! A lot of day trips are already entered into their favorites category.
Check In Out:
Not really. It was pretty clear what we needed to bring so we didn't have any issues.

Allison, October

Overall:
We had a superb week at La Capella. It was wonderfully appointed, perfectly situated, and we wished we had another week there.
Enjoyed Most:
Richard and Jude were fabulous hosts and we had a wonderful welcome package from them. The house was truly a comfortable respite in a wonderful location.
Enjoyed Least:
We loved it! Nothing to complain about.

Stacey, June

Overall:
Superb.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and surrounding property.
Enjoyed Least:
The adjacent farm has a passel of dogs with a bit of a barking habit in the early AM. Easily resolved by closing the window.
Surrounding Area:
Gelato was great everywhere. Easy access to Acquapendente and Torre Alfina, with Orvieto not that much further.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina was not within easy walking distance. You must have a car!
Tips or Restaurants:
Charlie's in Orvieto had really wonderful pizza.
Directions:
Written instructions were perfect. We did use a GPS, which was invaluable, since we visited Assisi, Siena, And many of the small towns.

Gayle , October

Overall:
We loved the villa. The owners go above and beyond in making sure you'll have everything you need. They were very helpful in planning our day trips, and I was in contact with the owner many times before our stay; she always responded quickly and with a great degree of thought.
Enjoyed Most:
Sitting under the grape arbor with a glass of wine.
Enjoyed Least:
The barking dogs at the neighboring farm.
Surrounding Area:
Not a lot of traffic noise. We liked watching the cows come in in the afternoon.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina; unfortunately not within walking distance. The home is in the middle of farmland. Nice if you like peace, but sometimes a little activity close by is a good thing, too.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owners will provide everything. They have a book with suggestions for itineraries and we took advantage of that quite often. I would say not to over plan your days. To make sure you take time to enjoy the villa.
Check In Out:
The owner took us on a thorough tour with a glass of Prosecco--very nice.

Cindy, September

Overall:
A wonderful surprise. The villa has large bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was such a joy that my family wanted to stay home for their meals, which we did most nights. We wish we could have stayed for 2 weeks instead of just one.
Enjoyed Most:
The kitchen and outside patio. The patio had a grill and we used it. The vine-covered outdoor area protected us from the sun yet we never experienced bugs.
Enjoyed Least:
The Olympics took place while we were there and we would have enjoyed a big screen TV.
Surrounding Area:
Orvieto became our primary spot to visit. There we catch trains, go to the super market, and the old city.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Aquapendente. Although only 10 minutes away, it was too far to walk. Parking was difficult so we mostly avoided it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Listen to your host. Richard Moon, the owner of the property, provides an excellent portfolio with suggestions of what to do and where to go.
Directions:
We had some difficulty finding the property, but I believe we didnt use our GPS properly. We got the coordinates but couldnt input the info.

John, August

Overall:
The house, grounds, amenities, owners, and Luna were the absolute best.
Enjoyed Most:
It was the total package that made it so special.
Enjoyed Least:
The barking hunting dogs that live on a neighboring property. They barked during the night.
Surrounding Area:
The convenience to all the hill towns. It made a great home base to have day trips.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina is the nearest town and within walking distance; we chose to drive as we are in our late 60s.
Directions:
The GPS came in handy.

Sheri, July

Overall:
We brought our extended family to stay at La Cappella dell'Alfina and loved every minute of our visit. We enjoyed preparing meals and eating on the beautiful patio every night under the stars. We made very good use of the excellent information booklet prepared by Richard. In fact, it was our complete travel guide for the week. Upon reading the suggested day trips in the area, we changed all of our plans.
Enjoyed Most:
The house was so comfortable and well equipped. Our hosts were gracious and full of great information on the area.
Surrounding Area:
We love being close to Orvieto and convenient to the both Umbria and Tuscany. Day trips were wonderful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Aquapendente. We had a rental car and it was very convenient for shopping.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house was very well equipped and so there was not a thing else that we needed that we could not find while out during the day. We ate several times in Orvieto. Carlo's and had wonderful Pizza at a garden restaurant.
Directions:
The property was easy to find.

Ansley And William, June

Overall:
Magical. My children who were there ages 20, 21 and 22 will remember that week for the rest of their lives.
Enjoyed Most:
We lived on the terrace every night
Surrounding Area:
Listening to the wild boar hunts at night.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Afina, not within walking distance--but we tried! We attempted to hike a 3-mile trail in the woods but never made it to town. It was fun nonetheless!
Tips or Restaurants:
Aquapendente is a great place to have coffee in the morning along the main square before you set off for your daily adventure.
Directions:
There are three ways to get there from Orvieto. We tried all. The lower road that skirts Civitas is easiest, fewer twists and turns. But once you drive it, it becomes easier.
Check In Out:
No, everything was great. The property has a house book that outlines day trips. It was our bible and made the trip.

William, June

Overall:
Our family loved our stay at La Cappella. The villa was in perfect condition with every amenity. The outside was immaculately kept with beautiful planting, gardens and a lovely patio area with an arbor. The owner, Richard, could not have been more gracious and helpful without being at all intrusive. The kitchen was perfectly equipped to make any or all meals at home. The owners provided any information about the house and surrounding areas including wonderful ideas for day trip itineraries. The location was ideal and allowed for wonderful and varied day trips that still allowed for evenings at home. The surroundings were just beautiful, scenic and remote yet with easy access to a nearby town and market. Finally, the bedrooms were all lovely and very clean and comfortable with beautiful linens. The bathrooms were all beautiful and newly renovated. We could not have been happier with our stay.
Enjoyed Most:
The property is just beautiful with gorgeous views and lovely and well-kept landscaping. There were beautiful containers of gernaniums on the patios and hygrangea and roses growing everywhere. The tables outside allowed for lovely dining at home and there was a wonderful outdoor gas grill which made outdoor cooking easy. We just loved the location because it is remote and in the country yet located in such a perfect area to allow for day trips to major cities like Florence and Rome as well as to othe smaller villages and even the beach and thermal baths.
Enjoyed Least:
If we had to come up with any less than ideal aspect it would only be the neighbors' dog business which sometimes meant loud barking in the middle of the night, and dog hunting competitions early on Sunday mornings. This was overall such a small matter and would never prevent us from renting there again.
Surrounding Area:
The nearby towns we enjoyed most were Bolsena with its beautiful lake, and Orvieto with its magnificent cathedral and lovely cobbled stone streets and little shops--very charming. We also went to a beautiful festival in Bolsena, at the owners' suggestion, for the feast of Corpu Christi.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Aquapendente which was not within walking distance yet was just a short and easy drive away.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Cappella is so perfectly appointed with every convenience that there would be no need for guests to bring anything beyond their personal belongings which makes it so convenient. The owners even provided an ample and lovely gift basket upon arrival with enough food to get through the first few meals. As for restaurant suggestion and places to visit, we relied on the owners' manual that they provide to each guest family. It has anything you would want to know about the surrounding area.
Directions:
We used the GPS in our rental car along with the written directions provided by RentVillas and had absolutely no trouble getting to the property.
Check In Out:
We were met by one of the owners, Richard, since his wife Jude was away. We were warmly greeted by him and their charming little dog Luna with a welcome basket with local foods to get us through a few meals. Richard also opened a bottle of Prosecco upon our arrival which was lovely. The whole process was very comfortable and gracious.

Carolyn, June

Overall:
Loved it! The owners were great and we felt like royalty!
Enjoyed Most:
The beauty and serenity. It was perfect!
Enjoyed Least:
The stone floors were cold.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery was just gorgeous and the little towns were so charming.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest little town was Torre dell'Alfina, which was not really in walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Purchase walkytalkies for multiple cars.

Sue , June

Overall:
Our stay was lovely.
Enjoyed Most:
The property is beautiful, comfortable and close to many activities
Enjoyed Least:
Loved it all.
Surrounding Area:
Jude and Richard provided us with suggested itineraries that were perfect for day trips, giving us a nice mix of things to experience.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Acquapendente was closest, but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
We took the suggestions Jude provided and were happy with them all.
Directions:
Directions were good and given to us by the property owners.

Lina, April

Overall:
I felt I was in a movie. What a beautiful villa. The area is perfect for going on day trips to Rome or Florence. We were met by the owners with a bottle of Prosecco and snacks. They supplied us with a folder about the area and suggestions on dining. They also told us that we had unlimited long distance calling to the US and a GPS for our vehicle with many of the dining and suggested towns already loaded.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything was just beautiful. The villa has everything we needed. It was hard to get us to leave on our planned day trips. I loved the kitchen and we ate there every night. Jude and Richard left us enough food and wine for at least a few days. The patio is very nice for eating outdoors and the views are breath-taking. Looking over the fields to the castle on the next hill was a memory I will never forget. The beds were comfortable and the home is furnished with the owners' African art collection. Each room was a revelation.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing to dislike. Everything was perfect including the weather I don't know how they managed that one, but thanks again.
Surrounding Area:
The hill towns of Bagnoreggio, Sarano, and Pitigilano. We also love the nearby village of Torre Alfina. The gelato at the bottom of the castle is the best. We visited Orvieto as a day trip and shopped for groceries there on our way through to other towns. Ovieto is definately worth a day trip and it is very near, 15-20 minutes.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina, with its castle, is easily within walking distance. There is a walking trail a few hundred yards from the villa that comes out just below Torre Alfina.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a GPS! There are few street signs I never saw any but I'm sure they must be there and once at the villa you can use the one they provide to get to favorite places they suggest. One of the best restaurants was the one overlooking the footbridge to Bagnoreggio di Civita. The terrace dining overlooks the ravine and the bridge to get to the hill town. We ordered 4 different entrees and all were delicious and reasonable. When I asked the waitress where the wild boar we ordered came from, she pointed to the ravine and smiled. Priceless!
Directions:
We had a GPS for our drive from Venice and used the directions from Orvieto that were provided by Rentvillas. Once there we just entered the villa as home on the GPS.
Check In Out:
We were met by the owners, Jude and Richard, and they welcomed us with wine and snacks. Richard showed us around the next morning and gave us a history of the villa and the surrounding area.

Amy, October

Overall:
This was our second trip here and another wonderful experience. Once again, the owner was very generous and most helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
We had just spent a busy week in Rome and it was great to be able to relax and enjoy being at this property. We were traveling with our son and his family and we all loved the space here. My five year old granddaughter said that playing in the large yard was her favorite part of the vacation.
Enjoyed Least:
You do have to drive to the stores and restaurants, but can find the things you need only ten minutes away.
Surrounding Area:
This is just a beautiful area.
Directions:
Yes we did use a GPS to get to the property. The owners also had a GPS that was programmed for several locations which made things very easy for us.
Check In Out:
Everything went as planned.

Katherine M., September

Overall:
We had a wonderful experience at La Cappella dell'Alfina
Enjoyed Most:
The home is a restored "antique", very lovingly cared for. The owner is very available for questions about the property and the surroundings. There were booklets in the house that had suggested day trips, and suggested restaurants. These were very useful.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room was quite dark. There are few windows in that area of the house, and not much lighting to help out. During the day in summer it was hot and we kept the shutters closed against the heat. This made the interior VERY dark. Only late in the afternoon, when the weather cooled off, could we open up the house to the light. We also had 2 encounters from afar with scorpions. These are not the deadly variety, but are scary nonetheless
Surrounding Area:
The house is well situated for touring. The little neighboring town of Torre Alfina is lovely--great gelato, too! Orvieto is very close by. The little hill towns of Tuscany and Umbria are well within a day's travel.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina was the nearest town. It was not within walking distance--more like a 10 minute car ride.
Directions:
There are no street markers, but the directions were excellent. We did have our GPS, which we brought with us from the States. The owner of the property also has a GPS. I would suggest that once you arrive, you set the location into memory.

Jamie, August

Overall:
Wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The gardens and villa are beautiful. We felt very welcomed by Richard, the owner, and at home in the villa.
Enjoyed Least:
Some barking dogs and gun shots in the morning. It wasn't really a big issue, though.
Surrounding Area:
Lots to do and see. Richard was very helpful, making suggestions, and assisting us in making reservations.
Tips or Restaurants:
The entire area has tons to offer. The hard part is deciding what to do. We liked wine tasting, visiting small quaint towns, small intimate restaurants, going to the beach, visiting castles, etc.
Check In Out:
Richard welcomed us with prosecco, cheese, olive oil, and fresh tomatoes. He described the history of the villa, provided a written guide/house book, gave us a walk about the property, etc. It was amazing.

Joe, August

Overall:
I can only place our experience in the "WOW" category -- this was a first class villa with all the amenities. This is a first class operation from beginning to end.
Enjoyed Most:
Wake up every morning and look up at a castle --- welcome basket provided upon arrival - food stocked for fires, series of meals and wine provided.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing not to love -- wi-fi was a little slow - but we weren't there to use wi-fi!
Surrounding Area:
Perfectly located -- with easy access to Lazio, Umbria, and Tuscany -- all within 30 minute drives.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alifna and Aquapendente were both close. We drove to both.
Tips or Restaurants:
There isn't a bad restaurant in the area -- and Richard, our host, has lots of great suggestions!
Directions:
We did use our GPS -- and it was essential to finding our way through the small towns and villages.
Check In Out:
We were met by the host, filled out a few pages, and were given an intro to the villa -- all handled very professionally.

Clarence, April

Overall:
It was a wonderful experience. The property was beautiful and the views outstanding. The owners live in a separate part of the building but made sure that we had all the privacy we needed. They were so welcoming and generous.
Enjoyed Most:
It is just gorgeous! Everything we needed was there. A great place to relax and be comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
It is a good distance from the larger cities, but you just have to plan for that and enjoy the smaller towns and villages.
Surrounding Area:
The views and the peacefulness.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Acquapendente. It was about a fifteen minute drive. There was a nice grocery-supermarket there and a few restaurants and coffee shops.
Tips or Restaurants:
I do not remember anything that we wish we had taken. Coming from the States, it took a few days to get use to the fact that most places close down for two to three hours after lunch and reopen later in the day.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS to get to the property. We used the written instructions we had received. Our only problem was some confusion at a couple of the round-a-bouts.

Katherine M., October

Overall:
Wonderful experience. The beauty of the restored farmhouse, the location, the quality of the home and the hospitality of the owners. Could not have been better.
Enjoyed Most:
The garden, outdoor eating area, location.
Enjoyed Least:
A little bit of noise from the surrounding farm where they train hunting dogs, so there was shooting during the early mornings and evenings.
Surrounding Area:
Excellent touring location. A bit off the regular tourist route so not too busy. The villages around the villa are great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Acquapendente and Torre dell'Alfina - but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Plan to stay in and cook as the kitchen is wonderful, the outdoor eating area is the best!
Check In Out:
Could not have been better!

Liz, August

Overall:
Fabulous! Beyond expectation!
Enjoyed Most:
Richard! Great host! He took us on a wonderful hike, helped us plan each day's itinerary, made arrangements for us to attend the most amazing cooking class and dinner, told great stories, made us feel like friends. Also loved that there was room for 8 of us. The outdoor dining table under the pergola was wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
Barking dogs at night. I had to close the shutters to block out the noise, but then I'd get too hot with the windows closed. Editor's Note: There are ceiling fans in the upstairs bedrooms and portable fans in the downstairs bedrooms.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful countryside, castle towns to explore, a lake to swim in, woods to hike in, restaurants with the best food I ever ate.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina. Not exactly within walking distance, unless you wanted a half-day hike. Aquapendente was close, too - but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring earplugs and a small fan if it's summer. Leave room in your suitcase to take home cheese, wine, treasures from town. Ask Richard for restaurant suggestions. Be sure to sign up for Pucci's cooking class!
Directions:
Good directions; We didn't use GPS. Just be sure to arrive in daylight.
Check In Out:
It was hard to say goodbye to Richard!

Linda, July

Overall:
Amazing! I am totally sold on the ease and economy of having a villa.
Enjoyed Most:
The hostess and host, Jude and Richard. Absolutely wonderful! They thought of every comfort and need we could have. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the kitchen was wisely stocked with everything one needs for basic cooking. Shopping in the area was extremely affordable and the location was ideal.
Surrounding Area:
Each of the little villages had a unique charm and we love visiting them. Some we just passed through, others we made friends with restaurant and gelateria owners. The area is a treasure!
Tips or Restaurants:
I left all of our great finds with Jude, but let people know that if they are traveling with children (we had our teenagers) that renting a house with separate rooms for everyone is the best money you will ever spend. The rest of our trip to Europe carried so much tension because we were never apart, but our time at the villa created the space we all needed and everyone got along better.
Directions:
GPS comes in handy, and the owners provide one, but have a map back up as the GPS doesn't always know where you are. Jude's directions were perfect.
Check In Out:
They had sparkling wine waiting for us and made us feel at home immediately.

Betsy, June

Overall:
We have stayed in several rental properties over the years and I must say this was the best. Jude and Richard pamper you as guests - so it is much more than a rental. It starts with the welcome basket of food to cook along with a suggested menu until you have time to go to the store. There were fresh flowers in all of the rooms. Great linens and comfortable beds - all in a fantastic setting in the Italian countryside.
Enjoyed Most:
The house is wonderful. My husband and I took the bedroom downstairs with a private garden door. We enjoyed keeping the door open with the screen shut and waking to the fresh country air and the birds chirping. We had three couples and each enjoyed their private bath and bed arrangements - very comfortable. Jude and Richard supplied us with Internet, a cell phone, GPS and recommendations on local sights.
Enjoyed Least:
All great.
Surrounding Area:
It is beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nothing within in walking distance, but it is a short drive into Acquapendente - which has great shops. Our favorite town was Orvieto. We also did a day travel to Lake Bolsena. Civita di Bagnoregio is a must see.
Tips or Restaurants:
Have at least one night with the recommended cook, Doriana. She was fantastic! How wonderful to have a 4-course Italian meal cooked in your own kitchen complete with wine, service and clean-up. We just sat back and enjoyed. We loved it so much we had her come back a second night. We also did a wine tour with through winetourintuscany.com They picked us at the villa and provided a guided tour of southern Tuscany and great wines and cheeses.
Directions:
Our Garmin had some problems with providing consistent directions - this property is a little off the main path. Once we arrived and set it in our coordinates, we had no problems finding home.

Julie, April

Overall:
Awesome. Our first time out of the country and our honeymoon couldn't have been more perfect. The villa was beautiful. The owners were very welcoming and knowledgeable. The area was beautiful and the quaint, local towns were what you would imagine out of a movie.
Enjoyed Most:
The quiet, serene feeling you get just being there. The decor was perfect. You almost didn't feel like you had to leave, we could have stayed there and never gone sightseeing!
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing...everything was perfect!
Surrounding Area:
The quaint town of Orvieto, cobblestone roads..the amazing cathedral...little shops..ceramics..especially the chocolate!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
I think Acquapendente was closer than Orvieto...but we liked Orvieto better...it was only a 20 minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner has a booklet with all kinds of suggestions..it just depends what you want out of the experience...we wanted to relax and we definitely got that!! They have a Tomtom programmed for The Best Pizza and it truly was - we ate there twice!! You really don't need to bring anything different then what you would usually pack. The owner has everything you could possibly need, even a cell phone..you just need a calling card.
Directions:
We did not have a GPS until we got to the villa, but we found the property without having to turn around or getting lost. Just definitely drive aggressively.
Check In Out:
The owner was extremely warm and accommodating.

Overall:
We were treated like royalty by the owners, Jude and Richard, and they were available to answer questions and give advice on restaurants, tours, markets, etc. We had a very positive experience and would happily return.
Enjoyed Most:
The comfort and attention to detail by the owners. The beds were especially appreciated as they had comfortable, American mattresses and very high quality linens. Every convenience was provided including a dock for my Ipod. They provided reading lights in the bedroom and had instructions on how to operate everything.
Enjoyed Least:
The bathroom for the lower level bedroom was one flight up stone steps. They were well lit but it was a slight disappointment that the bath couldn't be on the same floor I realize that given the layout of the home this would be impossible. This was not a large enough problem to prevent me from staying in that same bedroom next time we visit. The laundry room has a very good washing machine but they do not provide a dryer and have a folding rack that you can set up on the outside patio. They do provide an iron and ironing board.
Surrounding Area:
The open countryside and privacy. There were many local villages that offered good food and interesting experiences. The location gives you the ability to explore Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany as they all meet near the location of the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Acquapendente was about 5 miles and Torre Alfina was about 10 miles, Orvieto takes about 20 minutes. This is a location that requires that you have a car to get around. They provided us with a portable GPS to use in our car.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owners provide many suggestions and I would happily go any place they recommended. We had some excellent meals by following their book that they provide for you. If you have an Ipod be sure to bring it. They provide wireless internet service and phone service to Europe and United States. The kitchen comes very well supplied and even has sharp knives and they provide local delicious wine that you pay for out of your deposit. Be sure to bring your electric plug converters 2 pins as you would to any other country.
Directions:
The final instructions that come before you leave gave very detailed directions and we had no trouble finding the property even though it is out in the countryside and not well marked on the road.
Check In Out:
The owner is very professional and gives you a receipt for the deposit that is held until you leave.

Overall:
Our overall experience was wonderful. The house surpassed our expectations as did Jude's hospitality.
Enjoyed Most:
We liked absolutely everything. The owners greeted us with prosecco for our party of eight and had the kitchen stocked with a welcome baskets of fresh, local cheese, wines, bread, eggs, pasta, etc. Everything was done so well.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing not to like!
Surrounding Area:
The peace, the rollings hills, the friendly locals, the food, the wine, the proximity to towns in Umbria and Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina and Acquapendente. No.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a GPS supplied by the owner. Torre Mare in Torre Alfina.
Directions:
The directions were fine.
Check In Out:
The hosts were very accommodating and welcoming.

Overall:
I can't say enough about the peace and tranquility of this beautifully restored farmhouse, nestled in the woods and fields of the Italian countryside. We have been to Italy many, many times in the past. This was like being in a movie.
Enjoyed most:
Peace! Privacy! Proximity! Where do we start? We were able to take day-trips (which is really all you need for many famous sites) to Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino and even Assisi, Siena and more, yet make it back in time for leisurely dinners on the vine-covered terrace. And to cool off in the noon day sun, Lago di Bolsena is less than 20 minutes by car. We were also impressed by the fact that the house is so beautifully furnished with original artwork and collector's pieces from Asia and Africa - makes you feel at home. (The beautiful bathrooms were a special treat!) There was also an extensive DVD collection (English and foreign) for lazy evenings.
Enjoyed Least:
Can't think of any. I even enjoyed the occasional "wake-up calls" of local farmers and their hunting dogs in the far distance (though my husband snored through it all).
Surrounding area:
The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens, lovingly attended by the owners. The grapevine-covered pergola provided welcome shade in the afternoons and served as our favorite location for long family dinners. The fact that the garden is surrounded by forest and farmland (the nearest house is on the horizon) means absolute privacy, and allows a storybook view of the castle in Torre Alfina.
Nearby events or locales:
For groceries and other routine shopping needs, Aquapendente is five minutes away. And a hot tip from the owners, the area's best gelato in Torre Alfina - also just minutes down the road.
Tips or restaurants:
The designer country kitchen (no Euro mini-fridge here!) even has its own original brick pizza oven (though we didn't use it). Outside the kitchen door, we could pick fresh herbs for every meal, most of which we ate at home. But the owners can recommend nearby restaurants - and, most importantly, their recommendations can be trusted. The restaurant Il Giulione in Proceno---- is a must!
Directions
We arrived at Fiumicino Airport (Rome) and followed the detailed instructions (down to a fraction of a kilometer!) straight to the house. We happened to have a portable GPS (for Europe) which proved to be extremely useful navigating the narrow, medieval streets of nearby cities such as Siena and Orvieto.
Check-in and out:
The owners were there to greet and show us around. They have a completely separate apartment (separate entrance and drive) which ensured us privacy, but made it convenient whenever we had questions or just wanted recommendations.

Overall
Our first sight of the property was literally breathtaking, and that impression grew for us on each approach. The photographs can't do full justice to the beautiful building and spacious grounds. Inside, the rooms and facilities exceeded our expectations, together with stunning views. Eating pasta and drinking coffee or red wine under the grape vines, while watching Umberto herd the cows on the neighbouring property, was wonderfully relaxing. If we wanted help with deciding on the day’s trip, Jude was there, but we spent a blissful week pretending we owned our own glorious villa.
Enjoyed most:
Lovely cool airy rooms inside the farmhouse, a charming and spacious kitchen, so easy to work in; beautiful living areas with interesting art works, superbly comfortable bathrooms and bedrooms, plenty of room. Sitting, eating and drinking in that balmy morning and evening air under the grape vines. Walking around the property - flowers and fruit trees evidence of much love and care. Visiting the amazing medieval towns, Orvieto and Torre Alfina. Taking the train to Florence for the day.
Enjoyed Least:
None. I had expected to find driving a bit intimidating, but with Jude’s handy tips, finding our way around all the nearby towns was easy. The train rides to Rome and Florence from Orvieto were similarly easy. It is a wonderfully convenient location, combined with total rural peace and quiet. The biggest drawback was having to leave, but this inspired us to return as soon as possible.
Surrounding area:
The market at nearby Acquapendente should not be missed, and the drive above Lake Bolsena is enthralling. The clifftop medieval town of Orvieto is the sightseeing highlight, with good restaurants a bonus. Old churches in all the nearby towns are always different, and the thermal bath spa at San Casciano dei Bagni is essential therapy.
Nearby events or locales:
Our walk in the volcanic forest to see the Cahen mausoleum near the medieval castle at Torre Alfina was comparable to being on a movie set. It was the ultimate Italian experience, with fascinating history among unspoilt nature.
Tips or restaurants:
At the Nuovo Castello restaurant in Torre Alfina we had a wonderful long afternoon over pasta & red wine, enhanced by a friendly waiter, but good restaurants abound in the area. We also discovered that the nearby gelateria is famous for good reason!
Directions:
The owner is a great drawer of maps – we never got lost.
