Customer Reviews

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
Bedroom arrangement and quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was not very clean when we arrived.
Surrounding Area:
Convenience of everything.

Mary, September

Overall:
Delightful. We were close to everything and had a number of excellent restaurants in the neighborhood.
Enjoyed Most:
The apartment was very spacious and beautifully furnished.
Enjoyed Least:
Someone was renovating an apartment near ours and made a lot of noise during the day. Luckily they didn't start work until after 9AM.
Surrounding Area:
There weren't a lot of tourists. The area had a lot of good restaurants near our apartment. We were within easy walking distance of the major attractions.
Tips or Restaurants:
Around every corner is a good restaurant. One we really enjoyed was Cavolo Nero. Yum

Theresa , June

Enjoyed Most:
The apartment has a great feeling of space. The ceilings in the main areas are at least 20ft tall, so though you are in an apartment, there is a light airy feeling.
Enjoyed Least:
Unfortunately we were there during some construction across the road. They were not actively working on it at the time, but it was a downer to look out and see scaffolding. Now, if that were not the case I can not think of anything with the actual apartment itself.
Surrounding Area:
The apartment is located conveniently to everything we wanted to see while in Florence and close to the main bus and train terminals for easy excursions away from the city.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The only trip outside of the city we made was to Cortona, which required the train. Otherwise we had everything we needed within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
There were lots of great places throughout the city but if you are looking for something close by, Trattoria Dante is right on the corner. The staff was friendly and the food was great. It became a local hangout. Another great place was Trattoria Angiolino down Via S. Spirito about 500 feet from the apartment. Good atmosphere amazing food.
Directions:
We arrived at the airport - so - just a 15 min cab ride away.
Check In Out:
We arrived earlier than checkin-checkout states and left extremely earlier than checkin-checkout states. In both cases, the property manager was very helpful.

Grady, December

Overall:
It was a nice touch to have a large bottled water, some pasta, sauce, olive oil and basics laundry dishwasher detergent for example in the house. First, if you get in late and the shops are closed, it's nice to have something already in the house, and second, it's just nice to have a few basics covered for your stay.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a terrific set-up for our family. The rooms were nicely appointed with a beautiful living room. The kitchen-dining room arrangement was perfect for us. We got to experience "being a Florentine" by shopping and cooking in the local shops and markets.
Enjoyed Least:
The street noise from the cars driving over the cobbles at night was surprisingly loud.
Surrounding Area:
The location was terrific--a block off the Arno on the Oltrarno in a great up and coming neighborhood of Florence. There are loads of food shops with kind proprietors as well as a couple of cool and hip restaurants in the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The apartment is a very easy walk to the historic sights in Florence without being in the thick of the gazillion tourists that are there.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are staying for an extended period, bring your own pillow. My husband described the pillows as "rolled up phone books."
Directions:
We did not receive directions to the property--but once you had a Florence map, the property was easy to find.
Check In Out:
There was some confusion on our check-in. They were short-staffed and we had to wait over an hour for our key and to get access to the apartment. They were very apologetic about it.

Salina, June

Overall:
This was a wonderful trip and we look forward to returning.
Enjoyed Most:
The apartment worked out well for the 6 of us. Spacious and nicely decorated, we took the opportunity to shop in some of the local markets and cook a few meals at home.
Enjoyed Least:
The washerdryer and dishwasher units didnt work.
Surrounding Area:
The location of our apartment is excellent. It provided us a residential feel with easy access to some wonderful restaurants and markets.
Tips or Restaurants:
If possible try to avoid eating in any of the Piazzas, because the prices are high. Look for restaurants located away from these areas. We enjoyed good food everywhere we went.
Directions:
When we initially called from our cell phone at the train station we couldnt get through. We didnt realize we didnt need to dial the county code from our cell phone. We ended up taking a cab to the hotel listed on the rental voucher and had them call for us.
Check In Out:
During our stay one of our group broke their foot and was in a temporary cast. On the day of check out they needed to go to the hospital to get another cast put on. When we asked if we could store our luggage with them for a few hours while they went to the hospital, they were very accommodating.

Linda, October

Enjoyed Most:
Location and how spacious the apartment was....feels like a large house and not an apartment.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Loved the surrounding neighborhood and restaurants........also close walking distance to the tourist areas.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We took a day trip to Siena and San Gimignano....hired a car and driver....lovely lunch at a winery....well worth the money.

Sherry, September

Overall:
This is a fabulous apartment!
Enjoyed Most:
The property was spacious and clean.
Enjoyed Least:
We had no complaints whatsoever.
Surrounding Area:
It was a great area. It was close to the major attractions, but was a bit more residential in feel.

Bob, July

Enjoyed Most:
Location.
Enjoyed Least:
Air conditioning not consistent
Surrounding Area:
Lots of stores, bakeries, restaurants etc in the area. Easy walk to historical district.
Tips or Restaurants:
Trattoria Casalinga. Bring storage bags, wax paper, that sort of thing to help with food storage.

Susan, July

Enjoyed Most:
Outstanding location. Easy access to everywhere. Wonderful pasticceria around the corner. Wonderful living room
Enjoyed Least:
Rudimentary kitchen
Surrounding Area:
Excellent global location
Tips or Restaurants:
For restaurants the two must do's are Pane e Vino and Zibobo. Take the 7 bus to the last stop and you are there at Zibobo. It is worth the trip. It is an easy walk to Pane e Vino. Both are excellent.
Directions:
The only way to go is to get into a cab and ask the cab driver to take you there.

Robert, June

Enjoyed Most:
The living room is fabulous with 20 foot ceilings and plenty of room to relax. The bedrooms and baths are also very nice. The kitchen is a little small but has virtually everything needed to prepare a good meal.
Enjoyed Least:
There's some significant street noise in the living area, sometimes. After all this is Florence!, but the air conditioning allows you to close the windows. The bedrooms are very quiet. We had a small problem with the smoke alarm going off in the living area and never did figure out the cause.
Surrounding Area:
The location of this property is great. There are several small markets nearby, many restaurants, an Internet store, and a great gelato shop on the corner. The access to the city is excellent.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurants in Santo Spirito are all quite good and the one on the corner near the river is good as well.
Directions:
It is not necessary to take a taxi to this property if you have wheeled luggage. It's only a 10 minute walk from the train station.

Brian, May

Overall:
In a word - fabulous!!
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the ambiance. We felt like we had been transported into an Italian villa - a marvelous experience.
Enjoyed Least:
Only that there was a considerable amount of noise when the living room windows were open - so loud it made it difficult to talk. But the hustle-bustle of Florence city life was worth the noise.
Surrounding Area:
The apartment is in a less touristy area. Great little markets within a short walking distance. Good restaurants nearby too.
Tips or Restaurants:
Fully equipped apartment. Even an ironing ironing board. Good restaurants - Il Santo Bevitore on Via Santo Spirito; Ostario Santo Spirito, a little further down on Via Santo Spirito. Mamma Gina's near Ponte Vecchio.

Fran, May

Enjoyed Most:
Gorgeous apartment, wonderful neighbourhood, comfortable, homey, easy to live in. Lots of space for a largish family, while cozy enough to prompt conversation and companionship. Steps to all the shops groceries, wine, pharmacy, newspaper and a quick, easy walk by Florence standards to the city centre. Would recommend highly. Also, one of us had a serious medical emergency, and the staff could not have been more supportive or helpful. They swung into action and saved the day!
Enjoyed Least:
One complaint was the washing machine, which was just too slow for our North American impatience. We couldn't figure out how to use the DVD properly but that was OK; the kids read books! There was noisy construction on the roof every morning, which was a pain, but hard to fault folks for maintaining their property.

Wendy, March

Enjoyed Most:
The main living room is enormous, well appointed, and makes a great venue for large groups or gatherings. Location almost right on the river and minutes fom the city center.
Enjoyed Least:
Almost nothing - except for traffic from the reasonably busy road outside. Kitchen fairly small if you want to cook for a large group.
Surrounding Area:
Location is perfect. Situated in the old part of Florence, but on the other side of the river from the main tourist attractions. Had a local feel to it with some excellent local restaraunts.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring DVD's if you have a player.

Neil, July

Overall:
Thank you for helping us rent this, and thank you to the helpful local staff.
Enjoyed Most:
The feeling of Florence inside as well as outside. The apartment made us feel that we were a part of the culture, that we were living among greatness, that we were all really part of a humanity that transends language and politics. We loved the feel of the property. We loved the location and the reach it gave us to absolutely anything we needed - dinner, drinks, shopping, museums, markets, pastery shops. Everything we could possibly want and need was within walking distance, including the bridge and the Pontet Vecchio. My family of three grown sons, one daughter-in-law and baby grandson felt as comfortable as in our own homes, yet we felt just being in the apartment was an experience of Florence different from the street and city -- it brought the Florence life inside, as well.
Enjoyed Least:
We loved abolsolutely everything
Surrounding Area:
Everything. We could walk to museums, restaurants, markets, bank, shops, city, train, tour stops, bus stops, everying. We felt the city pace and we felt energized. Yet our apartment was quiet and comforting.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just go.

Kathy, July

Overall:
If you want to stay in the historic area of Florence and have walking access to all of the sites, this is the place for you!
Enjoyed Most:
It had a nice, Old-World feeling which set the mood for the Florence experience! It was in a great location.
Enjoyed Least:
The laundry room was a little bit of a challenge to figure out!
Surrounding Area:
There were 4 bakeries by the property and great markets!

Ann , June

Overall:
Property was impressive and very comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was excellent for walking to destinations.
Enjoyed Least:
Washing machine did not work, and the kitchen could have been cleaner.
Tips or Restaurants:
Two great restaurants right down the street, Trattoria Angiolina and Via di Santo Spirito. Both were fabulous.
Check In Out:
The local staff were very responsive and accommodating.

Kim, May

Overall:
The apartments in that building are well cared for and properly appointed - I give them my highest recommendation.
Enjoyed Most:
Great location - close to the river and very easy access
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing not to like - it was great. People who comment on the noise level from the street don't understand Florence. There is no more street noise there than normal - Vespas are part of the Florentine culture.
Surrounding Area:
Great resaurants and coffee bars close by - as well as a new internet place right on the corner
Nearby Events or Locales:
Everything in Florence is within walking distance
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a brand new restaurant in the Piazza San Spirito, Cafe Ricci. The chef-owner was one of my teachers at culinery school. The restaurant is wonderful - not typical northern Italian - very chic.

Michael, February

Overall:
Booking arrangements were very efficient, and Rentvillas were suberb in their assistance for our panic last-minute booking. All went like clockwork.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was excellent for everything. It was great to be within easy walking distance, whether it be shopping or art galleries and restaurants. It also had an authentic classic Italian feel to it, so you felt as though you were really living in Florence. The style of the place was very comfortable and welcoming with lots of space and all modern conviences.
Enjoyed Least:
It needed to be dusted upon our arrival. Didn't like the garbage cans outside of our main street entrance. Parking for our car was really difficult. During the day the living room was hot and noisy (from the traffic), but who cares...it's Florence! In the heat it was hard for the air conditioning to keep up.
Surrounding Area:
The location was perfect. The Uffizi was nearby, as was the Palazzo Vecchio, good shops, restaurants, coffee bars...everything you could possibly want.

John, July

Enjoyed Most:
The location and the very large living room and dining area. The fireplace was a great feature.
Enjoyed Least:
The noise. The living room faced the street where the garbage containers were and boy were they loud when they picked up the garbage! All other times you could hear all the noise on the street. Also, the apartment could have been cleaner.
Surrounding Area:
The area, Oltrano, was great! The restaurants were very inexpensive and better than the tourist areas. There was great shopping and in five minutes you were in the center of Florence. It was a five minute walk to the Pitti Palace and the Boboli Gardens, as well as the Piazza Santo Spirito.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be sure to find Sabatino's, it is a family run restaurant that is on the street left of Dante's, through the arch and doors of the old city. Also, to the right on Spirito Santo is Angelino's a pretty place with red-checked tablecloths, good wine and great food.

Deborah, March

Enjoyed Most:
The apartment was beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
The location was several blocks away from any supermarkets.
Surrounding Area:
The side streets were quaint and old world.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be prepared to travel to get to a reasonably priced grocery store if you plan to cook. Walk or take a taxi. Bring a few spices including salt, pepper and sugar. The local gelato store on the corner is wonderful. Buy an international phone card if you plan to call the states. For five dollars we called home for approx. 120 minutes. What a great deal.

Linda, July

Overall:
This property was much more than I expected! The living room was beautiful and sleeping arrangements were more than adequate for 6 people.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was wonderful, and the apartment was beautiful and well-kept. We really enjoyed the neighborhood, especially Ristorante Dante right across the street.
Enjoyed Least:
Our only complaint was that the upstairs shower drain tended to back up a bit, flooding the bottom of the shower. Not a big deal at all.
Surrounding Area:
The neighborhood was really great, perfect walking distance to everything, apartment was quiet at night, and it was nice being so close to the river.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Great places to eat, piazzas to enjoy, lots of nice places to stroll and great gelato right at the Ponte alla Carraia.
Tips or Restaurants:
The gelateria right at the bridge and Ristorante Dante right across from the apartment were great. Calcio historico was also quiet a sight in Piazza Santa Croce if you happen to be there in June.

Laura, June

Overall:
The apartment was clean and very spacious, and therefore met our needs and expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The spaciousness of the apartment was more than I expected. The location was fabulous. We could easily walk to anything we wanted to within the city. The apartment was beautiful, and comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room faces a very busy narrow street that is an exit for traffic from the city, so it is very noisy and made this otherwise lovely room difficult to hang out in. The bedrooms were very quiet, which was a blessing. There is no clothes dryer, so doing a lot of laundry was prohibitive, has it needed to hang dry. The dish washer never worked for us, but this was only a minor hassle. It would have been helpful to have a list of recommended grocery, bakery that are close, but we figured it out.
Surrounding Area:
We were a half block from the river, and we very much enjoyed our leisurely walks along the Arno going to and from the city.

Steve, December

Overall:
It was noisy with the windows open. It may have been a little difficult to cook much as the kitchen was small.
Enjoyed Most:
Spacious rooms, lovely decor, and nice bathrooms.
Enjoyed Least:
There was street noise but it was OK with the windows closed. Only a minimal problem for us. Actually everything was okay, and since we didn't try to cook, the small kitchen was OK too.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed everything - Florence was wonderful.

Barbara, October

Overall:
It was fantastic except that there are no screens or air conditioning.
Enjoyed Most:
The location is in the center of Florence and the apartment is very spacious.
Enjoyed Least:
The flies and the heat are really bad and it is on a noisy street (which I realize is expected in a city). I would have rated this an all-around 5 if they had air conditioning and some kind of screening on the windows.
Surrounding Area:
It was in a great neighborhood which was away from most of the tourists and yet it is central to all the sights.
Nearby Events or Locales:
It is in the center of Florence.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't go in July or August. I wouldn't have gone if I'd known about the bugs and the heat without air conditioning and screens.

John, July

Overall:
This is a good choice if you are looking for a property in town and that is on a bus route. There seems to be quite a few English speaking tourists in this area of Florence.
Enjoyed Most:
Although the property is across the Arno from Florence, many things are within walking distance (or short bus/taxi ride) from here. There is a nice pasticceria and laundromats nearby. The property management company is in the same building.
Enjoyed Least:
The traffic noise. This has been well documented in other reviews. But, you are in a large city and the property is on a bus route. The street that the property's front door is located has narrow sidewalks that are usually busy with pedestrian traffic. Actually, the traffic noise is annoying only in the living room. The bedrooms are quiet - except that they are currently doing renovations across the courtyard and they do like to get an early start.
Surrounding Area:
You have so many places to choose from. Plenty of restaurants and the Boboli Gardens are nearby.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We especially enjoyed the Piazza Santo Spirito at night. There is a nice trattoria and they had free musical and/or dance performances in the piazza every night.
Tips or Restaurants:
See above. There is a reasonably priced restaurant called Dante's that is practically across the street from the property.

Allan, June

Overall:
This property is great! It is very comfortable and well appointed. We stayed in the villa for our first week in Italy, and another traveling to assorted destinations. Our fondest memories are from the time we stayed in Florence, due in no small part to the accomodations.
Enjoyed Most:
As noted, the apartment itself as well as the property in general are very well appointed. The moment you step through the doors off of the street into the courtyard area, you will witness the attention to detail. The staff is on the ground floor, and are happy to help you in any way possible. Although not a concierge service in the strictest sense, they helped is with everything from reservations at a great restaurant, to helping us ship our many purchases home. Even though the apartment is very large, it is very comfortable and cozy (the fireplace helps). There is no doubt that it will be our "home base" for our next trip.
Enjoyed Least:
That we cannot take up permanent residence there. We lacked nothing (and I traveled with a tough crowd in that respect).
Surrounding Area:
Florence is absolutely fantastic. I am sure that if you are considering it, you are well aware of the allure. Although there is more to see of a historical nature in Rome, Florence is the city to enjoy the good life.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You are so close to everything. The property is a block from the Arno, and three(?) blocks from the Ponte Vecchio. I could not imagine a finer location.

Kelly, March

Overall:
Our stay was an outstanding experience. Everything went smoothly from check in to check out. The staff in Florence was great.. the property was better than advertised and suited us perfectly. We were in Florence for our daughters's wedding It was absolutely perfect. I have already recommended Rentvillas.com to a woman on the boat to Capri. The comments on the website refer to the kitchen as being too small for cooking for six. I think this should be removed because it creates an erroneous impression. while small, as most italian kitchens are, the facilities, a refrigerator, and a freezer and a dishwasher are great. You can't have three cooks at once but there is certainly enough space. We hosted a open house for the 50 people attending the wedding and though we didn't cook everything we did quite a bit and it was fine. I can't say enough about our travel advisor. She was a delight to work with throughout the process and helped us with another property, Ponte Vecchio, and it turned out to be just right for those staying there. We can't wait to use your services again and please feel free to have anyone contact me for a personal recomendation for your company or for details re property itself.
Tips or Restaurants:
The wedding dinner was at Ristorante Beatrice about 2 blocks behind the Piazza della Signorina. Pauola, was great - we had a beautiful dinner there. He was most accomodating and the food was great. He speaks English.

November

Overall:
Very favorable
Enjoyed Most:
Very comfortable and attractive.
Enjoyed Least:
The noise level from the street and barking dogs in the area Also had workman hamering and talking every day. Another suggestion-have instructions for dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer written out in English.
Surrounding Area:
Location was great-within walking distance to almost everything.

October

Overall:
This is a BEAUTIFUL, functional apartment in a great area of Florence.
Enjoyed Most:
The best features of this apartment were its historic beauty combined with the modern functionality of its plumbing, electricity, etc.
Enjoyed Least:
It is extraordinarily noisy. The combination of Vespa traffic, bus traffic, and other traffic makes for a 24/7 'wall of sound'. This could be corrected by air-conditioning the apartment. In this way the renter would have a choice of whether to have fresh air and noise/mosquitos or refrigerated air with the windows closed. The kitchen is quite small and only minimally well-equipped. It is also quite dark -- particularly at the sink where what lighting the room does have is behind you and thus you cast your own shadow on the sink and dishes as you try to wash up!! This could be somewhat alleviated by installation of lighting uder the cabinet that is above the sink.
Surrounding Area:
I enjoyed everything but the street noise. The neighborhood is full of artisan's shops (many lifelong neighborhood residents among the proprietors) and decent-to-superb restaurants and food shops. The 'Santo Spirito' church, market, and piazza are only blocks away. As long as one properly negotiates the 'closing times' one can get virtually anything one needs or wants around here--material, aesthetic, or spiritual!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Piazza Santo Spirito has nightly entertainment (generally music).
