This region features a distinct Moorish influence. You'll also find brilliant white hill towns and hundreds of miles of coastline. While the beach resorts draw visitors from around the world, the real jewels of the region are the sophisticated cities of Sevilla, Granada, and Cordoba. The cuisine of Southern Spain has distinct Arab influences. Rice, lemons, oranges, olives, and grapes figure prominently, as well as spices such as saffron and cumin. The region is famous for its grilled fish, sardines, and fried squid. Some of best jamon serrano (cured ham) is sliced and served as tapas, which are small snacks that originally accompanied a glass of sherry. Tapas range from cold meats or cheeses to elaborately prepared hot dishes of seafood, meat, or vegetables.

Malaga  -  [ Matches:  7 Villas and Houses For Rent]

The main city on the Costa del Sol, Malaga is a convenient point of arrival and departure, or a base of operations for your stay in one of our private villas. Granada, Cordoba, and Sevilla are all within easy reach, as are Ronda and the western “white towns.” In Malaga itself, there are some nice beaches and excellent seafood cafés around the old fishing villages of El Palo and Pedregalejo. In terms of sightseeing, points of interest include the Alcazaba, a structure of Roman and Moorish origins, and Gibralfaro castle, which offers great city views. North of Malaga, the limestone gorge near El Chorro and the prehistoric caves at Antequerra are not to be missed.

Granada  -  [ Matches:  2 Villas and Houses For Rent]

A fabulous Spanish city, Granada should rate highly on one's itinerary while enjoying one of our Spain property rentals in this region. The city's Alhambra, the palace-fortress of the Nasrid Sultans, is an incredible example of Moorish architecture. The fortress is divided into three groups of structures: the Alcazaba, the Casa Real, and the Generalife. A single ticket will get you into all three. South of Granada lie the Sierra Nevada mountains. They offer great hiking opportunities, including a trail called Ruta Integral de los Tres Mil, which traverses all the peaks. It takes about 4-6 days. Heading inland towards Almeria is also rewarding; you can stop at Guadix, a Moorish town with fascinating caves. Almeria's best beaches are on the East Coast; try El Cabo de Gata.
