About The Experience

Cute, charming, and picturesque, you'll find this holiday accommodation in the heart of the medieval village of Cabrieres. Just steps from all the local shops where you and your family can pick up fresh produce and unique souvenirs, this house in Provence is the perfect setting for a memorable trip, especially since all of the region's great towns are within day trip distance! After you're done exploring the nearby towns of Gordes and Bonnieux, come back home to this Provence house and swim under the stars in your private swimming pool.

Location Description

The property is located in the village of Cabrieres d'Avignon and is 200 meters from shops, restaurants, and markets. Cabrieres is a pleasant village great for leisurely strolls where you're sure to pass ancient houses dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. On your walk you'll also see the Wall of Plague, which was built to protect the people from the Comtat of the Big Plague of Marseille of 1720. A short drive from the house will take you to Gordes, a hilltop village that was a stronghold of resistance during WWII. Though much of the village was destroyed, its inhabitants have carefully restored each item to its former glory. Today, it is one of the most popular villages in Provence, with a wonderful castle, arcaded streets, museums, and musical concerts. Of course there are also all the necessary shops, as well as some delicious restaurants! A train station is located in Avignon should you want to travel a bit further without having to worry about driving.

Nearby Attractions: shops, restaurants, markets, Gordes (castle, museums, live performances, shops, restaurants), Isle sur la Sorgue, Cavaillon, Bonnieux, Avignon (train station).

Customer Reviews

Overall:
Perfect. The location was everything. Walking distance, driving options to other locations all while NOT in a touristy area.
Enjoyed Most:
Location
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of shower curtain in 2nd floor bathroom
Surrounding Area:
We did not feel we were the majority (tourists). We were definitely immersed in their village.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Yes. The enclave had everything we needed day to day!
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant within the Villa walls was excellent. We dined there twice.
Directions:
It was great!
Check In Out:
I had limited French. Mr. Truc has very limited English. Perhaps written descriptions of the house workings, that we had you follow him in your car to the Villa, he also took us by his place. We were confused but it all worked out with alot of head shaking.

Overall:
We are VERY tempted to re-book for next year.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was everything. We were able to be tourists but came home to a typical Provence village without tourists.
Enjoyed Least:
There were 6 of us. The bathroom without a shower curtain made getting ready a bit of a dance.
Surrounding Area:
Being able to walk to the grocery, butcher, patisserie and restaurant and still feel very secluded.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I honestly do not recall the name of the closest town as we did not attempt to walk outside of our village. We rented a car and drove to villages and cities.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant in the village was lovely! We dined there twice. Most everything anyone would want is available within walking distance.
Directions:
Do know some French! Mr. Truc, the owner, has very limited English. We did study conversational French, food etc I should have reviewed phrases to help with directions and housing concerns.
Check In Out:
Mr. Truc wanted us to follow him in our car. The streets are narrow with hidden turns so we had to pay close attention.

Overall:
Very enjoyable for the whole family.
Enjoyed Most:
Ambiance, outside space.
Enjoyed Least:
Hot water sometimes ran out.
Surrounding Area:
Provence has many beautiful towns but we enjoyed staying in a non tourist town which was quiet and relaxing
Nearby Events or Locales:
Les Cedres had a great restaurant. It was 1 km away so we walked.
Check In Out:
Monsieur Truc is charming and helpful. However his lack of English and out poor French made it difficult to understand a few details. The information we had about markets, pool security in English was excellent and very helpful.
