About The Experience

Cute, charming, and picturesque, you'll find this holiday accommodation in the heart of the medieval village of Cabrieres. Just steps from all the local shops where you and your family can pick up fresh produce and unique souvenirs, this house in Provence is the perfect setting for a memorable trip, especially since all of the region's great towns are within day trip distance! After you're done exploring the nearby towns of Gordes and Bonnieux, come back home to this Provence house and swim under the stars in your private swimming pool.

Location Description

The property is located in the village of Cabrieres d'Avignon and is 200 meters from shops, restaurants, and markets. Cabrieres is a pleasant village great for leisurely strolls where you're sure to pass ancient houses dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. On your walk you'll also see the Wall of Plague, which was built to protect the people from the Comtat of the Big Plague of Marseille of 1720. A short drive from the house will take you to Gordes, a hilltop village that was a stronghold of resistance during WWII. Though much of the village was destroyed, its inhabitants have carefully restored each item to its former glory. Today, it is one of the most popular villages in Provence, with a wonderful castle, arcaded streets, museums, and musical concerts. Of course there are also all the necessary shops, as well as some delicious restaurants! A train station is located in Avignon should you want to travel a bit further without having to worry about driving.

Customer Reviews

Very enjoyable for the whole family.
Enjoyed Most:
Ambiance, outside space.
Enjoyed Least:
Hot water sometimes ran out.
Surrounding Area:
Provence has many beautiful towns but we enjoyed staying in a non tourist town which was quiet and relaxing
Nearby Events or Locales:
Les Cedres had a great restaurant. It was 1 km away so we walked.
Check In Out:
Monsieur Truc is charming and helpful. However his lack of English and out poor French made it difficult to understand a few details. The information we had about markets, pool security in English was excellent and very helpful.

This is a lovely traditional house in a small Provencal village. It is beautifully appointed and charming.
Enjoyed Most:
Sitting by the pool in the evening watching the martins dip and dive across the sky. Seeing more cats than people on our evening walks of the village. Winding through streets that are so small they really shouldn't be called streets. Few tourists - in direct contrast to other Provencal towns.
Enjoyed Least:
Can't think of a thing that wasn't wonderful.
Surrounding Area:
What's not to like about Provence - hill top towns, market days, churches, lavendar and rose? The villa is located to the far west of the Luberon, so excursions to eastern villages like Bonnieux or Loumarin take 30-45 minutes.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is in Cabrieres d'Avignon, which is tiny. It has 3 stores and a great restaurant. The next closest village is Gordes, which seems like a metropolis in comparison.
Tips or Restaurants:
Small towns don't open stores on Sundays in Provence, so make sure your stock up on supplies on the Saturday you arrive, or be prepared to head to a larger town before 1:00 pm on Sunday.
A GPS is always helpful in the countryside, but a good road map and reading signs will work as well.

Very positive! Lovely home, great weather, with a bit of air conditioning available if it got extra hot. Quiet and peaceful, with good basic swimming pool. All basic amenities within an easy walk. Lovely trails to hike/run nearby.
Enjoyed Most:
Location was a very good thing about the property.
Enjoyed Least:
A few very small things: door latches were "quaint" but rather noisy to operate, annoying when others are sleeping. Knives were a bit dull... Hedge near the pool was a bit too tall, putting too much of the pool in the shade. But you can tell this is very nit-picky stuff.
Surrounding Area:
Wilderness trails on foot. We walked to Gordes twice, ran to Langes, many other places. Drove to many (5? could have done 10?) lovely villages for markets or dinner.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were basically right in Cabriere d'Avignon, a small town, 100 meters from groceries and butcher and baker. Lagnes was another walkable small town, but we only walked ran there for exercise, not for purchases.
Tips or Restaurants:
Lovely restaurant in Isle sur la Sorgue called Le Vivier ("the pool"). In an odd location from the entry, but right on the river water. We ate there twice.
Finding the property is easy. Finding the owner's place (which is where we were told to go first) was slightly harder. Understanding the one way streets is a bit tricky the first day.
Check In Out:
M. Truc doesn't speak much (or any?) English (which was okay as we have enough French) but he is a delightful man, very helpful. All the villagers are pretty friendly. There is a parking area in the property, but it's gated and rather tight, even with a small car, and a nuisance to use on regular basis. More parking clarity would be useful.
