Exterior Description

This Estate is a 13th century borgo with an old farmhouse, wine cellars, olive and oil mills, carpenter shop, small church, and stables. The villa has belonged to the same family since the 17th century. The beautiful property is over 250 hectares (about 625 acres), and includes vineyards that produce a wonderful Chianti Classico, olive trees (which produce a tasty extra virgin oil), hay fields and woods. The view from the estate includes rolling hills, the old walled town of Monteriggioni, and in the distance, the towers of San Gimignano. There is ample area for parking on the property. The 500 meter unpaved driveway leading to the villa is lined with cypress, and opens to a well preserved Italian garden. The antique shared swimming pool (11 m x 6 m x 2 m) is surrounded by classical statues. This pool is open from 1 May to mid-October. A second, larger shared swimming pool (15m x 7m) is located by the out-buildings and has a lovely view over an infinity-edge. There is a BBQ area available; there is a bocce court in the back garden; and billiard and table tennis are both available.

La Corte is situated in the ground floor of an antique farm house. There is a private patio equipped with table and garden chairs.

Overall:
This property fulfilled all of our images of what a Tuscan vacation would be. The family was incredibly gracious, hospitable and helpful. It was a stunning experience. Having been built on Etruscan ruins and having a history that can be traced to ca. 1100 A.D., this property was the perfect place for us - a group of teachers - to be. The pictures on the web site do not come close to doing justice to the estate.
Enjoyed Most:
Spaciousness and grandeur of the estate, and the family that owned it. It was stunning. I was responsible for finding the villa where our group of 30 would be staying. When I was asked what was the best part of our 2 weeks in Tuscany, I replied that it was the awed and stunned reaction of my colleagues when they arrived at the end of the cedar-lined drive at the villa. I am very happy that I took my Travel Advisor's recommendation and chose this property. The villa and the 2 dinners that the owners arranged for us where nothing short of magical.
Enjoyed Least:
nothing
Surrounding Area:
There were no urban or suburban developments nearby. It was convenient to all the major Tuscan cities and hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monteriggioni was within a 30-45 minute walk. This walled town was the spectacular view from almost any place on the estate. It was magical.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't be hesitant ask the owners about suggestions for restaurants they never steered us wrong.

Overall:
We can't wait to return!
Enjoyed Most:
The property was absolutely beautiful. The views were incredible and the location was very convenient for day trips and for getting food. We cooked several meals for 23 people in one of the kitchens and it was very well equipped for our needs. We had our wedding in the garden followed by an unbelievable meal catered by a local chef. It was definitely something that we all will remember for the rest of our lives.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing!
Surrounding Area:
Picturesque Tuscan countryside, olive trees, vineyards, cypress trees. It was very accessible by car. Many of the guests simply took a taxi from the Siena train station.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monteriggioni was about a 15-minute walk away by a trail. It is a very well preserved walled city with a few restaurants and shops. Siena, which offers much more was only about a 15-minute car ride away.
Tips or Restaurants:
We highly suggest taking advantage of the local markets and grocery stores and cooking meals at the villa. The food is very inexpensive and it was a lot of fun for everyone to participate.
Directions:
All of the taxi drivers were able to find it with no problem just as long as you could give them the address and map.
Check In Out:
The owners of the villa were great in helping us get settled and also with the wedding arrangements. We could not have asked for more gracious hosts.
